Everett Pope, Medal of Honor, WWII

Captain Everett Pope rallied his Marines to defend a key hill using fierce hand-to-hand combat on Peleliu in the Western Pacific in September 1944. In the spring of 1945, Pope was ordered to the White House, where he was presented with the Medal of Honor by President Truman on June 15.
