    The dust blower works great. Just a suggestion though. I am left handed so I flipped the flag upside down to bring the stars closer, laid a towel down over the stripes to rest my arm on when carving. The stripes below the stars (now actually above since its flipped) were exposed. I did not cover those stripes. The dust created actually embedded itself into the wood grain of the natural wood stripes. Didn't realize it until I was done with the stars. Took off the towel, flipped the flag right side up and noticed heavy shadowing below the stars on the "white" stripes. You mention having your air compressor on hand to blow the dust away. I would suggest masking off all the stripes with a towel or paper.

    Love your work, brother! I'm still starting out in building up my woodworking tool collection (making some simple shelves and such) but I love these flags and definitely want to make one for my garage. Maybe if my second or third comes out nice enough, I'll get the wife to let me put it in the living room. :) Thanks again, for all these videos!

    When you carve out the stars, is all the work you do shown or is there some 'finish' work you do to each star? Some clean up to make them look even or does that not matter since they're rustic?

    Hey jeff. Quick question for ya. I built a medium flag with your dimensions, purchased one of your templates, received it in the mail today( thank you very much)...so i practiced a couple of the stars...not doing to well on the outline of the stars so my question is how did u approach it and what bit do you use? Thanks jeff. Happy building 👍👍👍

    • @TheFurrminator
      @TheFurrminator  6 лет назад

      Jeremy Graves Carving the stars with a Dremel tool isn't hard but it does take some practice to get comfortable at it. When I get a question like this I immediately assume that you're using just the Rotary tool without the flex shaft extension because it is much easier to carve with the attachment. Here are a couple videos that I have made that may be helpful, one on the Dremel tool, ruclips.net/video/FkcCwMv7upo/видео.html
      And the other on the carving bits that I use
      ruclips.net/video/jsGXfCxZQpw/видео.html
      Check out the Rustic American Flag playlist on my channel for many more helpful videos that I've made as I've grown and learned along the way while building flags. Good luck and thank you for watching

    • @TheFurrminator
      @TheFurrminator  6 лет назад

      +Jeremy Graves just looking back at your question, with or without the attachment on the Dremel tool, I like to follow the lines that I've made with a pencil with the Dremel tool first. So basically just outline the star with the carving bit. After you've done that, clean out or carve the rest of the star. I usually outline at least half of the stars before I start carving the center of the stars. One thing that I've found is that when you're outlining the stars with the carving bit, carve away from you. If you pull the bit toward you it will usually cause a little splintering outside the stars. Pushing it away from you will almost always prevent the splintering.

    • @TheFurrminator
      @TheFurrminator  7 лет назад +3

      Joe Martinez I suggest a #105 carving bit to outline the stars, it's a small bit but easier to make the sharp points. The 106 and 107 are also good to use when carving the center of the stars or outlining really big stars. If you have any trouble carving with the dremel tool, get a flax shaft extension, it's like using a big pen to carve, makes it much easier. Good luck with your project.

      Chris C wow, that’s strange. I don’t know a lot about electrical motors but I’m guessing it was wired incorrectly at the factory. Have you tried plugging into a different receptacle? This is the first one I’ve heard of doing this.

      @@TheFurrminator I thought it was really strange too. I've had the dremel for quite some time (though it looks just like the newer ones), probably 10 yrs. I wonder if they've changed the direction of the motor at some point during that time? Don't know but the little blower looks cool, but does nothing for us! Bummer...

      Likely a Stencil. There are 10.5" x 14.82" stincils available on amazon. That's the size typically used for folks making 36" and 37" length flags.

    this tool is not good.
    it distribute the dust every where!! the better is to keep the dust near then collect it in a bag or use the cleaning vacuum !!
