I'm starting on the "Flag Making" project and saw this jig - and I just realized the same jig idea would be great for my cutting boards and butcher block builds.... so, after 6 years of building hundreds of boards/blocks I've learned a real time/work saver. Thank you so much for sharing.
We all believe our Paw Paw was the best in the world (which mine was :-) ) but I would gladly call you Paw Paw #2. You have a niche at teaching and your voice is comforting and relaxing to watch and learn. Great videos!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for showing the end product and purpose at the beginning of the video. I can't stand videos where you have to fast forward through the build to see what it is they're making. I'm now a subscriber to your channel. Two thumbs up!
I just came across this video. Thank u for the idea. I modified your jig a little bit. Your 3 pressure arms are affixed to your plywood with screws but I chose to have mine free floating bcs I make various size flags and I can slide them to pressure any area needed. Another mod I did was use 1/4-20 6” bolts with 1/4-20 knobs so I can hand tighten everything with no tools required. Thanks again👊🏼
I like that idea of being able to use star knows to tighten down the different pieces. Like you not all my flags are large, I make different sizes, just depends on what the customer wants.
Great jig. I will build one and share my experience with you. Also I absolutely love the x-carve videos. I just purchased one and have been experimenting and your two stage cutting has been a real big help. Thanks so much.
This a great idea for your flags. Just like to say also that I have been watching a number of your videos, more specifically on CNC projects. You are a very good instructor, very clear in your plans and directions. They are all very helpful to me and have helped me to think of ideas of my own as well as how to anticipate issues good and bad, maybe even the ugly possibilties. Anyways thank you so very much for your time, efforts and of coarse the patience that you have as it does take time to do the editing etc. so thank you. Keep having fun and if you don't mind...I'm coming along for the ride. Andrew
Awesome jig. Ive made hundreds of flags a year and have always built them the old school way and know its time to build a jig sure make my life alot easier.
That's AWESOME!!! Send me a picture. During the next LIVE stream I would love to show people's work from around the world. My email is in the description
Would you mind sharing the size of your union square and the total sizing of the project. Thank you in advance trying to see if I wanna do a square union or do it with the strips and paint it.
@@PawPawsWorkShop I just saw one of your videos you made doing several flags, I need to go easier on the glue and add better support on the back of the flags
Nate wahl . Use epoxy to glue them in. Also, you can put three little screws to hold the t nuts. The little screws need to be right at the edge of the t-nut. The head of the screws catch the edge of the t-nut.
I’m confused, your answer to the length of the bolts, one says 6 inches and one says 5 inches, Great video, but I wish there was more detail on the fasteners used to screw the bolts in. 3/8 inch bolts, but what size hole do you need to drill to get the fastener in?
The actual size of the bolt is 5 inches. You can use any size bolts, 1/4", 5/16", or 3/8". Whatever size that you have in your shop. Make the hole just large enough to fix the bolt.
Great design, but perhaps something like melamine instead of plywood would keep glue squeeze-out from being a problem? Just a thought, but I will probably duplicate the design! Great work!
Thank you. That's an excellent idea. One important factor is that I do not want glue on the face of the flag. That's why no melamine. The wood braces that keep the flag flat has packing tape on them to prevent the glue from sticking.
Hi. Got another question. What are the measurement points where you placed the braces? Looks like dead center and the other two are 1/2 way. So 1/3, 1/3, 1/3? Does it matter which corner you use? Since I use 13 even strips I figured I'd place mine at the top right to make sure the union stays straight. Thanks again, absolutely love your videos.
Two possible causes. If saw dust gets into the stop block and prevent the boards from getting to the actual stop block will make the boards shorter. Make sure that you completely clear all saw dust from the area around the stop block. The second cause could be that the blade on the saw has a wobble. Not very likely but it is possible.
@@PawPawsWorkShop Any recommendation on what to use? I was going to use the spray enamel that I use on the flags, but I'm not sure that's the way to go. Thanks again!
You can look at my recent videos on the small flags and you will see very little glue used. I also put it closer to the back side vs the front side. I have little to no glue coming out. I also will take it out of the jig after about an hour. If there is any glue you can wipe it off easily.
This is an Awesome jig! I’ve been making flags the old fashion way. Do you sell these jigs? Only asking cuz I don’t have a table saw yet. Otherwise I might go out and buy one
Hi! This is a very helpful video, and I've been watching it several times in order to help us build our jig. I have two questions. What size T-nuts and bolts did you use, and what are the dimensions of the layout lines?
5/16 bolts 6" long. The layout can be whatever you wish. I did it based on the union and the two sides and then one in between the end and the union. Balance the supports with even spacing.

Wow, thank you! Those are very kind words.
Awsome jig. Made one similar and not only does it save with making flags. It also double ups for making wider boards the same thickness.
Thank you very much

"Tuba Four." Someone's a fan of Larry Haun lol. Great video/idea.
Lol
Very simple, effective jig!
I also make Rustic Flags..... I'll definitely be making this to aid in their assembly!
Awesome. I hope it will help. Sure makes my process easier. Thanks,
Can you give us the measurements on the screws and the source in those nice knobs you used on another video? Thank you!
Recently made 2 flags. Plan on making more. This is a great jig. Thank you.
That's awesome! Thank you very much. I love my jig as well.
I like when he says tuba four
lol, I'm glad that I made your day.
Thanks for the tutorial, just built mine yesterday. Can't wait to use it!
Awesome!! Show me pictures of your new jig in action Thank you very much.
Tuba four lol nice jig
Very good idea, thank you for sharing
You're welcome and thank you very much.
I MADE MY OWN JIG SINCE. IT WORKS GREAT. THANK YOU AGAIN
Well thought out. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. It works great. Since I'm making flags on a fairly regular basis, it is an invaluable tool.

Sir, thank you for this video. This is exactly what i was looking for. Just made one after your design. Thanks Paw paw.
That's awesome! You're welcome. You can use this for more than just flags. It works great as a clamping jig for any panels.
Just did my first torched flag. I used a dremel for the stars and that was very time consuming. Like the jig idea looks good.

Nice work. I need to make these.
You should! It works great

Awesome! Thank you!
Excellent indeed!
Do you a video on how to make radiator covers (wood of course)?
Best regards friend!
Thank you, great suggestion
Paw Paw’s WorkShop ...hope you can do it my friend! I’m sure it will be awesome.
THis has been on my to do list for about a month now! I have a similar idea for mine. GREAT VIDEO yet again Phil.
Thanks Steve. This jig really does make it a lot easier.
Just finished mine and thank you Paw Paw!
Wonderful! That's fantastic. I'm sure you are going to like it.
Great idea good job
Thank you very much
Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome
Awesome work. I’ll start mine soon!!!
Awesome. Let’s get started!
Very nice work. Good Day.
Thank you very much
Using this method there’s no need on gluing each stripe I wouldn’t think. Just the back braces that hold all together.
Most times that all I do.
@@PawPawsWorkShop thank you
Do you use glue for each stripe? Send if so how do you keep squeeze out from bonding to jig wood.
Typically I do not glue each stripe. It is not necessary.
Great vid!.... what CNC router do you use for the pledge of allegiance?
I have the Dewalt router on both of my CNC machines.
Nice set up! I made one about a year ago, but I have 4 clamping points. Probably over kill.
Thank you very much.
Would you mind sharing the size of your union square and the total sizing of the project. Thank you in advance trying to see if I wanna do a square union or do it with the strips and paint it.
It’s 10.5 x13
If by my horrible math im right it could be 19.5 x 37.05 With the union being 10.5x14.75. Is this correct? Thanks again.
That will work just fine. My flags are 19.5x37. They are not to the exact proportions but I like the look
EXCELLENT!! THANK YOU!!!
You're welcome!
Thanks Paw Paw!
My pleasure. Thank you very much for watching
What is the thicknesses of the plywood sheet?
3/4"
I can see me having an issue with glue once it dries, separating it from the plywood. I've been wanting to try something like this
If you believe that would be a problem then put parchment paper down first
@@PawPawsWorkShop I just saw one of your videos you made doing several flags, I need to go easier on the glue and add better support on the back of the flags
Good idea, it really does not take much.
Hi, I am having problems with my T Nuts pulling out of the wood when I tighten down.
Nate wahl . Use epoxy to glue them in. Also, you can put three little screws to hold the t nuts. The little screws need to be right at the edge of the t-nut. The head of the screws catch the edge of the t-nut.
Thank you...I get the stupid award. I had the T Nuts basically backwards. I didn’t have them on the back side of the wood but the front. 🤫
Glad you solved the problem

Kurt C .. I can’t measure right now but 1/3 will work. Determine where you want the backer boards and place the braces in between
Thank you , do you have any issues with glue squeeze out on the face of the flag?
No, I do not. You only need a small amount to secure it together.
My main issues is getting the right end to be even all the way down even though I use a stop block with my miter saw, any thoughts? Thanks.
Two possible causes. If saw dust gets into the stop block and prevent the boards from getting to the actual stop block will make the boards shorter. Make sure that you completely clear all saw dust from the area around the stop block. The second cause could be that the blade on the saw has a wobble. Not very likely but it is possible.
great video I might have to make one, a question How do you do your stars?
If you are using easel I have uploaded the file onto their project page. It’s free.
How long are the 6 bolts? I'm hoping to go buy all the parts today.
The bolts are six inches long.
@@PawPawsWorkShop Thank You
Do you have all the measurements and everything for making the jig written down?
I will have to put something together. Most all of the measurements are in the video.
Thanks Paw Paw.
You're welcome
Nice jig. Do you have any for sale
No, they are too heavy for shipping.
Is half inch plywood thick enough to make this jig?
Yes, I think that will work just fine.
Nice trick, and nice flag ;-)
Thank you very much. This makes the flags so much easier to put together I don't know why I didn't make it earlier.
@@PawPawsWorkShop I'm now inspired to make one !
Awesome! Do it this weekend.
Where do you get your countersink bit for your drill?
It actually came in a big set of drill bits, however, you can buy individual ones at the hardware stores.
Are they like these:
5-Pack Twist Drill Bit Set www.lowes.com/pd/BLACK-DECKER-5-Pack-Twist-Drill-Bit-Set/1003014314
Yes, that's perfect.
After your jig build is complete, do you seal the wood with anything to help protect it? Thanks.
I have not sealed my jig. I do think that is a good idea as it will protect it and certainly make it last longer.
@@PawPawsWorkShop Any recommendation on what to use? I was going to use the spray enamel that I use on the flags, but I'm not sure that's the way to go. Thanks again!
Great video!! Do you ship the union with stars?
Yes I do!
So how do you keep the glue from sticking to the jig?
If that is a concern, put freezer paper down first and the glue will not stick.
@@PawPawsWorkShop Thanks for the hint there. I am sure I always use too much glue and should work on that also
You can look at my recent videos on the small flags and you will see very little glue used. I also put it closer to the back side vs the front side. I have little to no glue coming out. I also will take it out of the jig after about an hour. If there is any glue you can wipe it off easily.

What length bolts are you using?
I used 5 inch bolts
Hi Pawpaw, just made the jig and knobs have my first flag drying as we speak thanks for the video how long do you usually leave it in the jig ?
After you nail the four back boards on which provides the support you can remove it from the jig. The nails will hold it in place.
@@PawPawsWorkShop thanks have several military members in the family, trying to get a head start on Christmas!!
Awesome! I'm planning Christmas now also
How many toobafors did you use?
One. The remaining parts are made out of 3/4" plywood
This is an Awesome jig! I’ve been making flags the old fashion way. Do you sell these jigs? Only asking cuz I don’t have a table saw yet. Otherwise I might go out and buy one
No, I do not sell the jig. If you have a circular saw or even a jig saw and a drill you can make it with the information in the video.
Nice job. Question. Do you think having a hinge on one end would work?
Thank you very much. I had thought about putting a hinge on it, but was concerned I could not get even pressure.

Yeah! You caught my deep southern accent. You missed the slurred speech from the medical condition that I have. I do the best that I can. Thank you
I don’t understand. Why did you flip the jig ends and drill from both sides? Why not drill right through? You speak too fast. Lost immediately.
What size bolts did you use ?
