Japanese Cheese Maker's Dairy Farm Experience
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 фев 2025
- Japan isn't famous for its cheese but this cheese maker in Hiruzen (Okayama Prefecture) has been making his own cheese for years. Meet Kawai-san. He started when he couldn't find the cheese he wanted to eat in Japan. His passion took him all over the world, to Europe and the US - and beyond. He also has his own Jersey Milk cows, everything done in the same place. We'll look inside the dairy farm and try some of his best cheese creations.

Best cheese I have found in Japan! John, we have to go back with a bigger bag to fill! 😂
@@tygrahof9268 by boat 😊🐄
Great video guys!
@@tygrahof9268 Jersey is in the UK I believe. They may have come from the US though -- or Kawai-san's cows bred in Hiruzen and bought here hmm - I'll have to go back to find out.
Jersey cows are a great choice for a small farm. They are not as large as Holsteins, your usual black and white cow, so not as hard on infrastructure. They are also fairly smart and like a routine.
Best of all, their milk is way way higher in milk fat than Holstein milk!
Ya, I grew up on a dairy farm, and the neighbours had Jersey cows 😆
@@onlyinjapanGOdo Japanese know about String cheese?
I am glad to see this. I am a Cheese monger in New Jersey (USA) and when I was a judge of the World Cheese Awards in Wales this past year, I ran into the Japan Cheese team and learned all about Japan Cheese. I was in Japan two weeks ago and I was surprised to see the great Growth of Japanese Cheeses. I can't wait to come back and learn about more Japan made cheeses my next trip! Great Episode!!
hi, sorry to disturb you, I'm also a cheese enthusiast. I wonder if you could recommend some places in Japan which can make cheese, especially offer cheese making courses.i want to learn in Japan. Thank you very much
It's always cool to see a craftsman passionate about what he's creating. Good luck to the cheese maker!
Hi John. I love cheese and sharp cheddar is my favorite. I had no idea use Japan has a place like this. This is why I love when you share wonderful places like this. Thank you for constantly enlightening us on so many beautiful things about Japan.
This is like an only in Japan collaboration with only in Japan go as it’s not live feed. narration makes so smoother to watch
Cheese please! Kawai-san makes a wide variety of cheeses. It doesn't get much fresher with the dairy cows just down the road.🧀🐄👍
I like this format with the narration great episode
Always nice to see someone following their passion like that.
You always show a unique side of Japan, much appreciated and you really deserve all the success and views!
More like this! Wonderful way to capture experience and sharing about the area, history and culture. 👍
John is truly a master of many languages….English, Japanese, pigeon, crow (tobi dialect), and now cow too?
John please never change 😂
Hi John. Another great food video. I did not know it was difficult to buy cheese in Japan. Living in the UK, there is an abundance of great cheeses. The gentleman seems so passionate about the cheeses he makes and rightly so.
Amazing dairy farm! Thanks John!
Wine and Cheese John? You are getting top shelf. Way to Go, Only In Japan is definitely Blue Ribbon!
2:38 I think I understand what he's saying, like cheese in the west is used as a creamy/fatty/funky/salty/sharp/etc flavor. But in Japanese cuisine, those flavors are already covered by the wide range of fermented foods. So the introduction of Western cheese to Japan was kind of introducing an unfamiliar yet redundant ingredient.
Wow! Sugoi! I would love to try those cheeses. Thank you for showing another amazing side of Japan! 💞
Great video! Thanks, guys. I hope he has the next generation to take over
that cow liked you so much she tried frenching you :P . thanks for there share! stay awesome!
Thanks! Review of class or kind of goods has a variety within the distribution of market goods. Price comparison is an economic data point, however as Only in Japan demonstrates the trade art of the product as unique marketing has an indigenous flavor. Great work nice video! Best Wishes, Andrew Stephen Drazdik Jr 9th May 2023
Thank you very much Andrew! I appreciate the feedback very much. -John ٩(^‿^)۶
That close-up shot of that "Cream Blue" cheese actually looked pretty intimidating.. The "Yama Budo" wine cheese looked very good.
Excellent. Enjoyed the topic and thank you.
Great episode! Very nice guest too!
Cute cows 🐄i agree and the cheese variety looked awesome 😎Thank you John & Dean 🙂👍!!!
What a great, well-made video!
Omg this is awesome. I need to visit this place. Adding it to my list
Loved it John absolutely outstanding. Always beautiful seeing rare gems in human beings
That cream blue looks FUNKY. I'd try it for sure.
Wonderful work. Thank you for sharing it. ✌️
I love good cheese. I must visit here when I come to Japan. Great video, John
It looks so majestic and magical in summer!
Kudos to Kawai - san (and the cows!🐮). The cheese looks amazing; and much more flavorful than the typical Japanese types. 🐄🐄🧀🧀
I say Kawai-san is the cheese head of Japan.
I'm currently living in an area that's surrounded by dairy farms. Honestly not the best place to live when it smells like cows on occasion. If I ever plan a visit Hiruzen. I would love to try some of the cheeses that he makes.
Great video John. Cute cows and interesting Japanese cheeses 🧀 I like the cheese with wine. One day I would visit the Japanese cheese farm. The Japanese wine was interesting.
I had no idea that you spoke cow fluently. Anyway, fascinating episode. Now I want some quality cheese and wine to eat.
Cool, like the newer version of soko ga shiritai. Thanks for the cool videos. Enjoyed your videos from NHK world Tokyo eye. Keep up the good work so when people travel to Japan they know what to do or look for. Aloha
I never expected to see Jersey cows in Japan. I thought it was going to be some Wagyu A5 cheese 😂
Tourists to Japan need to be very careful and aware of quarantine requirements or enhanced Customs procedures when returning home or proceeding to their next destination country after visiting a farm, and a dairy farm in particular. This is no joke particularly returning to Australia and NZ.
WOW. NICE EXPERIENCE. LOVE IT❤
I like to taste this cheese with dashi flavour! Must be good... The cow remind of Elsie from Borden Dairy Products. Thanks John.
Wow, even as a aspiring culinarian- I wouldn’t think of Japan as a cheese making location at all! When I do plan my trip to Japan this year, I’m going to check this out! ❤
I believe this video was destined to be uploaded to the Only In Japan John Daub main channel ^_^ its very rare I hear johns voiceover dub on Go channel... Anyways cool video I ♥ cheese! Hello cool wingman Dean Newcombe too... Greetings from Philippines ♥ Japan
Wow, yall could have wide range of dairy products like cheese, butter and milk. My uncles used to have dairy cows farm in Oklahoma.
amazing cheese.I wonder if they provide cheese making courses, I really want to learn in this place.
Interesting..I hope one day I can taste japanese cheese in my local supermarket in my country...
This is amazing!!! I want to travel the world for cheese lol sounds like a good time🤷🏻♀️ mmmm wiiinneeee cheese🤩🤩🤩 looks and sounds wonderful🖤🖤🖤 look at those super cute cows😍🖤 love it👏👏👏👏
Watching this again. This time I am wondering if you ate both the newly made cheddar cheese and the cheese that was 8 months old?
Love a good cheese please!!! Nice drone parts too John!!! 🐂🧀👍🏻
P.S John did u just say yum to the cows!!!!😁
The Cheese looks delicious!
That's awesome!
Jersey cow have the highest milk fat of all breeds of cows. They also have the lowest yield, so their products are the most expensive. Nice to see Dean again--my wife has a crush on him!
I WOULD LOVE TO WORK FOR A FARM
This is super good to watch. Keep em coming..
Should add link to order his cheese. enjoyed video.
Are they in japan stores or just there in the makers place.
Local only. Recently I can find more cheese in stores but for decades it was just processed Q&B cheese 🧀 it’s great to have variety.
Yummy cheese and cutest cow.
1/3 of the way to poutine :) ... love hearing from makers and locals.
Shouldn't this be on the main channel instead of go?
Cheese for you favorite pizza and parmesan chicken cutlet or pasta

Great video🧀 this video is so cheesy John spoke cow😁
Have you thought of doing any content with abroad in Japan? Or any other vloggers?
As a Canadian, I gotta ask: Do they sell cheese curds (for poutine)?
How can we known over stop is here in japan train station
this is unique, why not make it as an episode.
I wonder if they are any Italian style cheeses made in Japan?
cows are the BEST!
No there was definitely more fermented food in Europe than just cheese lol, beer, bread, wine, pickles, sauerkraut, yogurt, dried sausages, etc
This is like finding a 10/10 Tofu Maker in Switzerland lol.
Allora in Giappone non si trova il Grana Padano ?
adorable Cows
it's so nice they're not fed grain
Ohhhhhh my favorite cow!!!
His company isn't called "Kawai Cheese"? Mr. Kawai, what a cute name. He must not be a fan of puns.
Mooo over i need that cheese! please
I saw you in Disney land today.

Cheese actually is something I am always missing in Japan especially my old gouda which I usually eat a lot .... at least we can find young gouda sometimes.
That Mouldy cheese looks so bad ... I still don't get how someone can eat it even if its edible mould it looks so disgusting.
I cant believe that after all this years I just discoveres Japanese people are not into cheese
CHEESE
That cream blue. Seemed a little too moldy to me
🐮
Wait..... there CHEESE in Japan???? wow! you learn something new everyday! LOL jk ... I just didn't except it to be made there lol :)
During Japan's Meiji Era (the late 19th Century AD), cheese entered into the mainstream and has been produced since that time.
Plz add Arabic translation 🥲🥲
I bet his work clothes taste like cheese.
one happy mooing episode
I honestly didn’t think there was any cheese made in Japan except for perhaps hamburger style cheese.
I am veterinary assistant I need job
Maybe start a side business, make cheese! Grow the business, hire an unemployed Veterinary to assist you 😉 that would be an amazing story!
Hey man, why haven't you met Mark Wiens, he's in Japan. Get him please...
I read that Mark Wiens lives in Thailand?
