Thanks for the continued support from everyone. This video took a little bit to make. I went and grabbed footage from every pitch Tanaka threw. Ive been watching Gary for a while so it was easier to know what to look for. All catchers do this stuff across the league and it always fascinates me. Catchers need to be on the same wavelength with 5 different pitchers who all have different rhythms, moods and intricacies, its the most demanding position IMO. Now the plug: If you're buying tickets from SeatGeek use code JOMBOY for $20.00 off. Help us while helping you!
Jomboy Media u see the mix up on the second pitch with no one on in game 2
Nah its because the astros are notorious cheaters and have been caught using illegal cameras to steal signs and have had there people snooping around in the opposing teams clubhouses.
The Astros were accused of stealing signs during home games the year they won the World Series. Turns out they did have a camera that was capable of doing it and claimed they weren’t stealing signs. MLB determined they weren’t guilt, but they had to stop using the camera. Personally I think it’s likely they were stealing signs. Smart of the Yankees to do this, especially on the road in Houston. Even if it is paranoia, it’s a smart move.
I have to say that I am not a baseball fan at all. I can enjoy a game if I go to the stadium but I can’t stand it on tv. I don’t remember which video of yours I watched first but I have been enjoying them for weeks now, maybe even months. You do a good job of making them fun. I find that any sport or activity can be enjoyable if it is obvious how much of a true fan the announcer is as opposed to it just being a job.

“Just in case someone’s cheating” aged well.
lmao
2 things.
It's not cheating. Watching pitches and trying to figure out signals has been apart of baseball since it started.
Sending encrypted messages like this pitcher/catcher pair should be standard.
Andewy using a camera and notifying the batter what not to swing at is cheating boss
@@Andrewy27 This ain't it, chief.
lol yesssss.
They're not paranoid, they're just playing the Astros.
todd goslin paranoid of illegal sign stealing
And buzzers!
Yea playing cheaters!
In Houston...
Now we know the Astros are rat piece of shit cheats. 🖕
Well now the paranoia makes sense

Jomboy went from being a funny Yankees guy on youtube to being the most important baseball journalist in a matter of a few weeks
true bc I only follow the cardinals, and thats only after july &/or when they come to my city.. & i better understand the astros situation now bc of him
I say true cause 30 days ago I couldn't name 3 famous baseball players or recall a memorable mlb moment
Now I can name doezens of people and moments, understand the depth of which the pitcher and batter play, all from breakdowns
@@Smartboi302 wait, you have no local MLB team, but the Cardinals play there? How?
Jude Law I follow the cardinals because I grew up there.. moved away a while ago
Exactly
It’s crazy to think that two guys who only speaks Spanish and Japanese have this type of relationship
The both speak english... your point?
Tanaka doesn’t.
@@followthegrow108 not great English at all. Especially Tanaka. He always had a translator bro.
@@jeremyganther5575 well enough to to talk baseball with a catcher.
I can say as a catcher for 20 years you don’t need to speak the same language.
Me 6 months ago: “I haven’t cared about baseball in years, but this Jomboy dude has some interesting videos”
Me now: playing mlb the show every night. Staying up watching the playoffs. Understanding the baseball lingo
Thank you Jomboy for bringing me back to a sport I haven’t followed since a kid.
Kentertainment glad i’m not the only one, Jomboy is the ambassador for the beautiful game that is Baseball
Kentertainment I was literally thinking the same thing just now. These vids have gotten me back into baseball
Amazing, right? Not even the professionals on TV can do this.
Same
I love baseball, especially a good pitcher's duel. People love offense, but a pitcher's duel is way more suspenseful imo. Jomboy does a great job of explaining all the intricacies of the game.
Lol this video is even better now that everyone noticed what the stros were doing
Nick Cruppenink “If there cheating” That didn’t age well lol
What were they doing
They were videoing signs
It’s funny how Jomboy calls it paranoia, but every team knew what the Astros were up to.
Steven Daly this was before we knew they were cheating.
So many people have said it before, but I’ll say it again: Jomboy is single handedly saving baseball. 2 years ago I didn’t care at all about baseball. Now I watch this video and just want to see more!
thats awesome to hear. Wasnt my goal when I started making videos but its a cool result
adrianfisk you know what’s funny I had an idea of doing a bucket list of visiting stadiums (I’m still doing it for NHL) but I figure for other sports and MLB has been high on the list even though I also got into baseball 3 years ago
@@JomboyMedia Yeah man, as a Tigers fan, I would've bailed on this season a looooong time ago, but your videos are keeping me hooked!
Same here I didn't care much for baseball but Jomboy got me checking the standings and i even had a world series bet.
And he has to pay MLB for showing the game highlights even though he's promoting their content better than anyone
Looking back on it Gary showed how great of a catcher he is: he’s aware signs are likely being stolen and he’s able to somewhat offset the cheating the Astros were doing
And Kurt Suzuki and Yan Gomes followed suit
LethArctico ahaha jeff mathis. big foolish baseball guy?
Jalen Kang aye kinda late but big foolish baseball what I thought of too😅
Will Morgan yessuhh
Gonna go out on a limb and say this wasn't Gary... more so someone from the video team or coaching staff
This video takes on a much greater significance now that the Astros were caught cheating. The Yankees knew something was fishy and they were trying to stay ahead of the cheaters.
Ryley Richardson lol but the Astros had a whole video crew the steal signs and would bang on trash cans if it was a breaking ball. Gtfoh
sign stealing isn't against the rules
Ryley Richardson excuse u... where is the evidence?
Ryley Richardson sign stealing is not against the rules. Just to let you know the reason the Red Sox and Astros were “cheating” is because they were using technology to steal them. I have no idea about the Yankees but I honestly haven’t heard anything about them. (I am also a royals fan so idc too much about this topic)
Ryley Richardson like I said never said they weren’t breaking the rules I’m saying that if you steal signs it is completely legal as long as on technology is involved... did you even read the previous comment
They were paranoid because they know the Astros cheat 🤣
That's going to get worse now I think
Everyone cheats in the pros
Mr. B if you ain’t cheatin, you ain’t tryin.
Mr. B tell me who cheated in the past three years and what they did in detail I look forward to your lack of answers

“That ends inning, and that ends the video” I like the abrupt ending lol

I caught in high school and absolutely loved the relationship that came from working with certain pitchers, especially when you find that pair of pitcher/catcher that work so well together. Love the silent understanding, it’s awesome.
Being that they were playing aginst the Astros, it made more sense than ever.
Seeing this after watching Jomboy’s newest video on the Astros hitting the dugout to warn for change ups. Makes sense now why other teams would be paranoid
Ive been catching for over 30 years from Little league, Pony League, to high school, and now in Sunday league. I love this shit. Best position in baseball.
I'm in my mid-30s now and play softball. I won't play catcher there, the best parts are gone.
About *DAMN TIME* someone with some sense talks about the mind games! Good breakdown jomboy!
Funny how this comes up Juky 31st 2020 on my recommended again. JOE KELLY IS MY HERO
Honestly in light of everything this is how baseball should be played. Don’t let people cheat against you, don’t rely on your opponent’s honor, have a system for signs that makes it more or less impossible to break.
These little things makes me love baseball. This should be on ESPN or whatever so casual fans could see it
Fuck espn
ESPN doesn’t really do sports analysis and coverage though. It wouldn’t fit the agenda.
instead all they talk about is launch angle and spin rate smh

Lol MW3 intro
That rays game where they tipped the pitches has everyone extra cautious
Definitely. Before it became evident Glasnow was tipping his pitches some thought the Astros were stealing signs through video/an external source. Although that was never the case you can't blame NY for being cautious.
@@Bucboy1001 Houston was caught already in the ALDS in 2018 recording Cleveland. Cleveland tipped off Boston and Boston kicked the guy out of the stadium for the ALCS. There was suspicion that Houston did it to the Dodgers as well in the WS in 2017 but they just thought it was Darvish Tipping his pitches. So nothing came of it but if the guy was caught then you best believe Yankees are not taking any chances since they finally reached the ALCS. Plus mighty suspicious that all of a sudden Boston kicked the guy out recording their pitchers and lo and behold Astros don't make it into the WS.
@@miguela.flores6930 as a Tribe fan, can confirm
@@miguela.flores6930 Houston wasn't caught in the 2018 ALDS, they were wrongly accused. The MLB cleared the Astros of any violation.
www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/25009035/mlb-clears-houston-astros-sign-stealing-allegations
The thing with the red sox dugout was because the astros suspected Boston to be stealing signs, which they have a track record of.
www.nytimes.com/2017/09/05/sports/baseball/boston-red-sox-stealing-signs-yankees.html.
Plus why is it suspecious that boston won after game 1? The Red Sox had the best record in the MLB and the games were still close? Bregman almost hit one out to tie game 2 at the end. Game 4 was the Joe west game and Benintendi made a great play to save the game.
@@donrobbie5317 You must be a Houston fan to pretend to not have heard this. Astros probably have been doing this for years. There is always a possibility that the other teams have done it as well but, as of recently Houston was the only that has been caught. I actually really enjoyed the WS in 2017 until this was revealed in 2018. Ever since Houston is the sole team I will root against for the American League in the WS. I hope the Yankees win the ALCS. I feel bad for Cleveland and Dodgers since it was the Dodgers year to win and Cleveland had Kluber who had another chance to go to the WS.
This video aged well 🤣🤣 now we know why they were doing this with no one on base against THE ASTROS!
And Tanaka still shredded em in game 1 despite the fact that the Astros cheat.
And still the yanks lost the series despite all the sequence changes, blah blah blah, yada yada yada.... just get over it already. Go walk the dog, smoke a doobie, hell lay some pipe on ur wife. Shit getting old. Either beat em or join em man but on the real, get a life.
@LethArctico lmao. good one good one. Shaddup bish.
Ray Mar don’t defend a team that blatantly cheated and stole a World Series from perhaps 3 other teams. It isn’t a good look, this isn’t going away for a long time. But I’m sure if another team cheated you would say the same shit, “move on,” yadayadayada.
@@chuckjohnson8439 all the taboos that have been committed in baseball, from shoeless joe, pete rose, steroid era, stealing signs the old fashion way or video, whatever the case may be..... it's like a black eye. With time, it eventually goes away. Like child support! 18 yrs and bam, goes away. Albeit gone but never forgotten. Like that ex wife of yours that cheated on ya. Gone but it's still in the back of your mind like, that bitch!! ya know?? Now as far as if another team had done it....... ohhhhhhh, au contraire mon frere!! Boston did the same shit to EVERYONE including the Astros in 2018 and looking back on it now that this has come to light, i'm like those slick bastards, were better at it than us. By the way they are still being investigated but nothing will come of it BECAUSE if it all came to light how many teams are actually trying to cheat, it will be a shit storm and MLB aint having that. It will bring the sport to its knees. So enjoy hating the Astros because the truth will never be known. Tupac.

Mike Palmer I mean all honesty damn near anyone can do that
Well now we know this was actually pretty smart against the astros lol
This may just be my favorite breakdown you've ever done. The way they seamlessly changed sequences without any cross ups or wild pitches is insanely impressive!!
Dude I haven’t watched baseball for 10 years but these videos are making me get way into it again. All the little things like this that make the game great. Thanks jomboy you are seriously bringing the joy back into the game. Don’t ever stop making vids. I’ll see you on espn in 3 years!
One of the rare moments on RUclips when videos age well!
We love you Jomboy!
“That ends the inning and that ends the video” that’s definitely a t shirt only jomboy fans would understand
The pitcher had the frequency orders written inside his hat. .. Astros mission::: Get that hat
Hahahahahaha that's fucking hilarious
Yankees: NASA computer encryption
Rays: AVG free antivirus
Watching this made me sad.
I remember how excited I was after Game 1.
And now that these allegations have come to light, I’m just so disenchanted.
Not only is this video so much more significant being the astros, they even switched sequences on Altuve of all people. Jomboy making baseball great again!
This is quickly becoming my favorite RUclips channel. Thanks Jomboy!
Sometimes it's easy for people to forget how intricate sports really are.
Baseball is intricate brother, game within the game
Damn I never thought baseball was this subtle. Small movements speak great volume. Good job
This video makes so much more sense now. The Yankees knew what was up. Shame on the Astros, but damn, shame on Chapman for not using a sequence in ALCS game 6
Perfect timing for this video to pop up as reccomend videos to watch after all the allegations lmaooo. Jomboy was ahead of the curve on this one.
I've been saying this for years. I always felt they had a way of guessing or knowing the pitches before they were thrown.
Yeah camera city and cigarette hackers gee let me pull out my calculator send a tennis player in and have four eyes scribble on a pad were they the same guy probably
I like the little things all mentioned in this vid. It can be pretty easy to sit back and not pay attention to this type of stuff. Cool vid
always appreciate your insight, I learn something new all the time
Man I love that you are pointing this out. Many casual fans have no idea about what is actually taking place in the battery. So many think the pitcher is just huckin it in as fast as he can. They have no clue about the chess game that's actually happening. Glad to see you shine some light on it.
The fact that tanaka went 6 innings without giving up a run in this game is so god damn impressive
this is one of my favorite breakdowns you've done so far
Thought this was beautiful catcher/pitcher communication here. This was fantastic to watch.
Anyone watching this after the allegations smh
Yeah if it wasn’t for that well I would of been who knows pitching probably
Lol this video either aged beautifully or horribly, I can’t decide 😂
Another gem. Great videos. Because of you, I watch all sports in the new light. I look for things that I never thought to look for before.
They knew the Astros cheat, so did the Nationals, and were warned by other teams, man I always knew the Astros were fucking shady!
Jomboy you might single handedly save baseball my friend.
Looks like a historic video under the circumstances that have developed since you posted this . Congratulations!
To really see the crazy amount of communication is amazing and I love to see it. Even tho I'm a year late I'm going back through memory lane
I like how Jomboy completely ignores the fact that the catcher’s acting “paranoid” because they’re playing the Astros.
Date
When this video came out, the news of the Astros' sign-stealing hadn't broke yet.
Amazing how this played out...
The Yankees knew it before all of us
Someone with the Nationals had a buddy with the Dodgers who called them up and warned them about this.
Absolutely A+ video. Keep it up.
thanks man
This is part of the game that nobody pays attention to it's so entertaining to see how much work goes into a relationship between a pitcher and catcher
Amazing work by both the pitcher and catcher. They knew the astros where up to some bs and they beat them at their own game. Quite impressive!
With the recent developments, this video makes a lot more sense now, doesn't it...
People forget when they criticize Gary for his finicky offense, but he adds more to the Yankees than most with his skill and experience behind the plate alone.
John exactly. I like Sanchez. I don’t like where he is in the lineup order but he’s more important for his real role which is calling games. He’s been amazing so far.
Yep and there aren't any other catchers that are better than Gary on this......... WAIT
I would love to see 9 astros hbp in a row...by 9 different pitchers
Love your analyses, man. Really, REALLY interesting stuff.
Great content. I'm a casual baseball fan wanting to get deeper into it and this helps a lot. Thanks!
To have 3 diff sequences and change 2x during one hitter...plus all of the glorious other points you make points to the yanks being well aware of WTF was going on in Houston
That’s smart honestly and the communication and everything was on point
On the Altuve at bat on the last pitch
Jomboy: “they (Astros) are on to something”. As in like knowing the sequences at Astro’s home park.
Boy, this video is now of an affirmation if you now what’s going on. Retweet this Video on your Twitter Jomboy!!
This channel made me fall in love with baseball again
As a pitcher I will say this is the best relationship on the field, You literally are communicating with sign language and body language the entire game,. eventually you feel like you can read each others minds.
This is like the first TRUE breakdown lol
“And that ends the video!”
I’m not even a baseball fan lol
Loved this video. Fascinating stuff!
I'm not a baseball guy, but stuff like this makes me appreciate the sport.
I am so glad u made this video, this is my favorite part of baseball, I enjoy watch the cather pitcher relationship so much. I know alot of baseball fans, but most dont really care about this, glad to see someone else enjoy this part of baseball
Jomboy: Behind the Ball. Coming soon to Netflix.
It’s because the astros are known for watching and passing info to each other ... just like Tampa pitcher tipping his pitches
Is that cheating
ree three its cheating if someone outside of the team is telling them stuff. But when a teammate or coach does it it's fine.
ree three it’s just, most teams dont tend to watch as much as the Astros. They’ll hop on anything. **The pitcher tilted his head a millimeter to the right, that means he’s throwing slider** type shit
Back in the Old Days the home team had some guy behind the center field wall looking at catcher signs.
Mdebacle yup lol
Hey, after what the Astros did to the Rays, there is no reason NOT to do this
You mean after what the Rays did to themselves? Glasnow admitted to tipping his pitches.
It’s about sending a message to the astros that theyre on their shit
Seeing how Tanaka did 6ip and 68 pitches (wtf?!?!) It stands to say it might have worked.
The HOU bats have been cold for a bit. If Glass doesn't tip his pitches what happens?
@@LudaChez then we most likely would have lost. I'm not a homer in where I wont admit that. Bats are cold as hell and I don't feel good about this series. I'm just sick of people calling the Astros cheaters when they guy who messed up admitted to it.
@@erictheripper3316 well there has been talk of more than that in the past. I guess that is the issue.
But for what happened with Glass is one hundred percent not cheating. That's not the first or last game a pitcher has tipped pitches obviously.
Preston Wilson just tweeted "every team steals signs"
I don't think they cheat. Pretty complete team. Just bats go cold sometimes. Look at STL as well.
Love these videos, brings me back to my childhood pitching days. Pitching to the right catcher makes a huge difference.
I love Jomboy, he has motivated me to start my own football commentary channel! Keep it up!
As someone that used to pitch, I would have loved a catcher like Sanchez!
This might sound like a stupid question, but why?
@@AndudeDrew Not a stupid question!
Clear signaling even when hes trying to hide those signals.
Sits behind he plate upright even without the glove you would be able to have a large target to throw towards.
Frames the pitches.
Like Jomboy said he communicates that the pitch even if a ball is a good pitch cause many pitches that are called balls are pretty much perfect. Brings down the frustration that comes with not getting a strike call on a close pitch.
Only real baseball fans love this little stuff about the game
I would change the sequence every three pitches when going against the Astros.
Things like this is why I love baseball. Good stuff man
I played baseball for 10 years and i mainly was a pitcher only and seeing The communication between the two brings back so many memories of the classic battery combo from my travel days
Altuve didn’t look to hot without knowing the signs
It’s playoff baseball, you can’t give your opponent an edge in anyway, we saw what happened with the rays and Glasnow, rays prolly wish they caught that before the Astros did
"that was close I know we shoulda had it"
I regularly have all baseball breakdowns on shuffle playing in the background at work, and this video appear 1 in every 3 shuffles. GOAT
The hindsight of this video is absolute gold 😂
