They totally changed his character to feel more relatable. This Thanos was a whole villain and you can just tell from the smile when the other says “to challenge them is to court death”.
Goad, not court.
Though, this would have definitely set up Comics-grade Thanos, rather than "save half the universe" Thanos.
@@jman217 No, it was definitely "court". Who says "to goad death" anyway? I've never heard anyone say that. The fact is, Marvel changed their plans between the first Avengers film and Infinity War. It really seems Hela, from Thor Ragnarok, was originally supposed to be Thanos' Death goddess. But they eventually decided to cut her out of Infinity War and change Thanos' motivation.
@@blinkonceonsunday1325 Good because that would be really dumb. Hela is no Mistress Death. Not even close.
Wish they'd kept it that way too
@@lancekemal8989 But she was the goddess of death. That's her whole thing. She killed 3/4 of the people in Asgard without breaking a sweat. It would have been a better motivation for Thanos than him claiming to be an environmentalist on a crusade to end overpopulation in the whole universe.
I think thanos might have been grinning because he actually did court death, literally. He even pledged his love to her
his whole thing is to please her
@Babul Boxi I think that this scene is before they fully fleshed out how they would depict him or just a comic book reference

This clip shows that they had no plan about Thanos other than he wants the Infinity Stones. I imagine the directors of each movie that mentioned him or used him just were told the gist of his Comic book character until Infinity Wars decided to developed him into something different from the Comics.
Yeah exactly. Endgame 2014 Thanos tries to bridge the version in Guardians of the Galaxy with Infinity War's 2018 version. IW's demeanor and appearance and GOTG's rage and motivation.
LeafyIsHere2 aka Thanosetalgia Memeories ...Thanos was rage and motivation in IW until he killed Gamora. Sacrificing the only thing you love for what you feel is right will humble anyone, even a mad titan.
@@jaredschmidt8013 I felt it was more that the Thanos in IW was in the mindset of impending victory. 2014 Thanos was still still in the mindset of an eventual victory but given the sudden chance of an impending one AND bonus motivation from knowing the results of actually winning.
That was Joss Whedons intention. He wanted Thanos to be the person behind the scenes for loki, but didn't know what to do with him.
It shows that he wants to court death like in the comics from my point of view

@JamailvanWestering facts, man.
who is "The Other"?
This is comic Thanos, then his character was changed by the Russo Brothers to make him more relatable and less generic.
I love this revision of the Other's opinion.
He thought a single Aesir leading the Chitauri could conquer earth and just sent their troops to ransack the place (the strategies used by the chitauri, if any, are highly questionable).
And then 5 humans (3 of which are perfectly normal, if well-equipped), a single Aesir, and a relative handful of national guardsmen manage to hold the line until one of them throws a nuke at them.
Always love it when humans get to be the orcs in a sci-fi story.

@@Starco_Official_Marcono it is thanos's hand
It is pretty clear that the original plan for Infinity War was supposed to involve the Marvel entity Death. This actually makes Hela's appearance in Thor Ragnarok seem more than just a coincidence. As if they originally planned to use her as the Death entity that Thanos wanted to woo. I think Thanos was meant to rescue her at the end of Thor Ragnarok as part of the lead-in to Infinity War. Then Cate Blanchett likely would have had a role in that movie.

To challenge them is to court death. Thanos smiles because he actually likes the idea of courting death. We think of that phrase as meaning to get ourselves in serious trouble but Thanos takes it literally. He wants to court lady Death, the personification of death in a woman's form, because he has a massive crush on her since childhood but she has massively friendzoned him.

I feel like they just got a guy to wear a Thanos costume and only digitized his face. When you see Thanos rising from his throne, his hand looks too human and the armor doesn't looked CGI'd even though it's a back shot.

They turned him into a humanoid piece of shit, made him lose his OG badass armor, made him lose his glowing eyes, then they pretended his sanctuary with his actual throne doesn’t exist, and then they proceeded to make him a villain with a controversial motive which is basically a ripoff of jigsaw

The technology hasn't caught up yet for us to make Thanos the way he was in Infinity War. And Josh Brolin wasn't even Thanos here. It was somebody else.
comolokko Your avatar looks CGI *xD*
Nice reference to Jim Starlin's awesome Infinity saga from the comics, a much different story in manh ways to the films. Thanos was litetally courting "Death", the actual cosmic entity. He was in love with her, and to show just how much, he assembled the stones and snapped half the universe away. That wasnt even a cliffhanger to issue #1 of the Infinity Gauntlet, if I remember correctly. It happened midway through.
I don't think the comic story would have been right for a straight adaptation. While some of the moments still live on, some exact - the Snap, many heroes dying (though many die in battle with Thanos, and holy crap, some of them go out HORRIBLY - Wolverine gets his adamantium skeleton turned to rubber but his healing factor still works and he dies slowly; Thor gets turned to glass and shattered; Spidey gets pounded to death and Tony gets his head ripped off; and Cap's infamous stand-off, which is one of the greatest moments in the saga and very similar to his standing up to Thanos in ENDGAME, except in the comic, he gets killed) - the Russos managed to capture the essence of the story while adapting it perfectly to the prior films, for the most part.
It makes sense that Whedon would reference the comic, as he is a huge comic reader. But the shift from the cosmic entities battling Thanos and his reasons for assembling the stones, I think, is better than the comic in that it fits with the existing narrative. Still, nice reference for those of us dorks who were reading the comics long before the movies came out.
This Thanos looks really threatening, and this appearance should be kept until the end. Josh Brolin is a hell of an actor, but his face doesn't resemble a terrifying madman and murderer as Thanos, and modeling character's faces exactly like the actors was a mistake imo. Another example of this was Ruffalo's Hulk, or Abomination from the She Hulk lame show, or the shameful Modok in Quantumania, simply horrible.
The Thanos in infinity war and endgame were great I'm fine with the change
Its interesting that avengers 1 and guardians of the galaxy 1 built up thanos being the major villian in infinity war the same way loki season 1 build up the major villian in antman 3 and the future movies avengers kang dynasty and secret wars

It is a simple they are in the dark with barely lighting.... I don't think it was a mess up, or a change later of any kind. If you watch all the MCU, you could point out colors deviations. It is just lighting. For example, in a new trailer for End Game, it looks like Gamora's hand touching someones leg. It looks like it could be green. So people are theorizing she is back. (which of course she will be). But that could easily be her sister. As they have the same sleeve. And the lighting (again a dark room), could appear to be Gamora's hand, as it appears green. But there is a huge debate is it's Nebula's hand. I am sure they were aware of this whether it is truly her or not, with the "unsnap effect" that will surely be in the next film. So, they keep it in the trailer, and if you watch there are no faces, or real clues of who this is. It is like Gamora or Nebula. But since they have similar outfit sleeves down to the hand. With lighting is hard to tell. So, to pace back... If it was almost pure darkness in space. With barely and light. Colors can appear different. I have fun looking for "mistakes" in movies. But this one is easily explainable.
So Thanos bulked up for infinity war and end game
