What do you guys think? Let me know your thoughts, as mentioned this has to be one of the dumbest articles IGN has pumped out. Also sorry to those of you that watched the stream Live on RUclips, the chat was acting up so I didn't notice the other comments until after I shot this video.
As a black person myself growing up with RE franchise (and many other titles) I'm very annoyed how they're trying to speak for me and black people in general. Having infected or zombiefied people in the world is somehow ok, as long as they don't have dark skin? I hope both RE:CV and RE5 gets remade with no specific changes to satisfy some corrupt game journalists.
This was a complaint they got when it came out, too. The only thing that is genuinely racist about Resident Evil 5 is the complaints that it takes place on the continent of Africa. China? Fine. USA? Fine. Antarctica? Fine. Eastern Europe? Fine. Spain? Fine. Africa? RACISTS!! I mean, really! What is this fetishism with Africa being untouchable? It's gross.
By this articles logic, Resi 4 was racist for having Leon kill a load of Spanish natives! Arent Sheva & Josh Black protagonists? Also Sheva expresses sympathy to the infected isn't that "a empathetic look"?
I guarantee you two things: 1. Not a single African native is upset at the fact that RE5 takes place in Africa and depicts a white man as the main protagonist. 2. A white man from the U.S wrote this article.
Black people aren't crying because black people aren't stupid why people are fighting other white people look for Japanese this people's point of view and everybody's entitled to their own point of views
The amount of people i played Resident evil 5 that are part of the African nationality that had 0 issues with re5 i could positively say it's always the people people that are trying to speak for other nationalities. Ign needs to honestly just let everyone go and hires some new people cause these writes just i don't ain't it.
This is nothing new. The same argument came up when the original released. The part i can't understand is we've gone through the entire RE series gunning down 'white' zombies and nobody has said a word, RE6 even went to china where we had to take down numerous chinese infected and still not a peep so why are we still here? Let's be honest, capcom are the only Japanese outfit to do black characters the right way. Square should be taking notes.
I’m pretty sure the people were victims. In fact it was set up like a bond flick where the big bad chose a place they would attract the least attention.
Remember the village youth's diary? It says they were tricked into handing over their land to the oil company and because the company feels guilty about this, they gives the village people free inoculations now. So yeah, they were victims.
The game is set in Africa. Of course the zombies are made up of the local residents for the most part! WTF are they on about?!? Has the whole world gone mad?
I don't even need to read the article. They are using racism as a buzzword to get attention and clicks. Outlandish remarks get higher traffic numbers. When the game first came out, it was also accused of racism by anybody that wanted attention or clicks. That faded quickly when people as a collective saw through the low-effort antagonizing.
There is obvious issues with RE 5 and it’s portrayal of Black character, but this article kinda just states things without providing any more in depth analysis. The article doesn’t seem to include voices of African fans of resident evil or Africans in general. If you want an in depth discussion about racism. Include their voices
14:08 Yeah, "modern recreation" (the typical "modern audience" mindset they have), which seems to imply that IGN doesn't want RE5 remake to take place in Africa or probably decrease the dark skinned enemies overall.
Game journalism has been going down the hill for quite a while now, it's honestly sad now since they can't even be bothered to research the topics they are trying to complain about.
Let's imagine that RE5 went the other way, and none of the infected were black. I guarantee the same people would be screaming "racism" because its a game set in Africa with no black people in it. This is just manufactured outrage for clicks.
I find it funny that they suggest Code Veronica to be remade when they would take issue with it taking place in South America and Alfred cross dressing because he misses Alexia.
Another excellent video my dude! I gotta tell you I've been playing resident evil games since day one and out of all the articles I have ever seen on this franchise this one made me laugh the hardest. It is such an amazingly absurd stupid argument! And you and some of the other channels are saying the same things we resident evil five fans were saying back then in regards of five and 6 inches how insanely forked up this the process is for this game. you the man!
It's 2009 all over again. Damn it. Back then, not much about the game was known until it released, so it was easy for idiots like the ones today to jump to conclusions. But now, you can do research into game before the remake's release and see that there are no elements of racism in this game just because it is set in Africa. I think the real reason why these people are triggered because of the fact that Africa has been constantly exploited by many companies for many reasons (In the Resident Evil universe, the T-Virus that Umbrella developed originated from flowers that grow only in Africa), and that hits their nerves, they don't like to look into the mirror.
Iam African, and iam not offended by this, the fact is i can't wait for the remake of re5, he just wants attention, jut like the New York journal who said it was racist back in the 2009, which ign interviewd the voice actor of Sheva, she said it with straight face this game is not racist, why capcom would make a racist game 😂

I can always say that I felt super racist playing as Josh in The Mercenaries ..... and super racist helping a poorer continent fight off bioterrorism since they aren't equipped to...
I'm designing a game based on American Crime statistics. You play as a law abiding citizen and your "primary antagonists" are black people. 13% something something over 50% something something. RE5 set to take place in a hollywood casting call.
Remember when that black actor who was in resident evil 5 explain why resident evil 5 back in the day explains why re 5 was no racist when it was coming out, including that fact that we are killing Spanish infected in re 4, there nothing racist here
People definitely seemed to forget the direction towards action in Resident Evil started long before RE5. Resident Evil 4 imo is even more action than horror.
[GROAN] Resident Evil 5's "most notorious" problem wasn't that the Ganados in the game were mostly African. The problem people have with it is that objectively, it's a massive downgrade from its direct predecessor with inferior gameplay which was gimped for the sole purpose of co-op and a ridiculously actionised sell-out. It wasn't that the Ganados were black, it's that it was an inferior product and it's baffling that IGN would bring up this stupid "DEY'RE BLAK!" criticism a decade-and-a-half after the fact to spark Culture War Claptrap! Is it any wonder why we're in the midst of a new consumer revolt and gaming crash?

The author recommends remaking Code Veronica instead. But does he demand that Alfred Ashford be removed from that? It's now forbidden to have someone like Alfred be a villain.
I remember when RE5 first came out and some people were so upset that Capcom had players killing infected black people in Africa. The solution Capcom came up with was to throw in some hispanics for some reason I can’t even begin to understand. We can attack infected people in other countries no problem, hell we can even have infected hispanics in Spain (apparently no one told Capcom the languages were not the same when they made the original RE4). I dunno, but it seems more racist for these ‘journalists’ to just single out one race while ignoring the others.
There's a lot of problems with your statement, for starters RE5 didn't have hispanics those were literally people of Indian descent the Indian population in Africa is around 12.37%. And second OGRE4 didn't have infected hispanics they were literally Spaniards that had a generic latin american accent. Its like having a game set in Britain with enemies having an American accent. The enemies in OGRE4 and RE4R are both speaking the same language which is actually called Castillian though a lot of people like to call this language Spanish. Some people call the Castillian accent spoken from Spain, "Castillian Spanish" (which is where most people get confused) though as mentioned they're literally speaking the same language (Castillian) just different accents.
