I read somewhere years ago that Constantin Films has to release a film every 5 years because otherwise the rights would be gone. This means that the next film must come out in 2026 at the latest. If you ask me, the topic would be better off with New Line or Legendary Pictures. Even in Bloomhouse I have a lot more confidence.

The movies with Milla Jovovich may not of been as good as the games the games are obviously better coming from me as a RE Fan since I was a kid but definitely I gotta say those movies were the strongest out of all the RE Films. I do wish they followed the games more since when I was a kid I watched my older brother play RE1 2002 with the Spencer Mansion and eventually when I saw the RE1 Movie with Milla in it I thought Milla was Jill and was super confused when I found out her name was Alice. But with all that out of the way I still enjoyed it since I really liked Milla’s performance and think Milla is sheeeesh material even when I was a kid I thought that and even till this day Milla looks great for her age. It’s also shocking fun fact that Milla and the director Paul WS Anderson is husband and wife IRL and have a daughter named Ever Anderson and Ever Anderson looks a lot like Milla. I wonder if Ever would ever be casted into a RE Film in the future hmm 🤔. But good video Project Wesker I couldn’t watch this video when it released but I came back and watched it when I remembered I saw this video come up in my notifications feed.

The problem with the Jovavich movies that people seem to not know is that the original script was close to the RE1 game and Jovavich wasnt even in it. Capcom told them not to stick too close to source material as they were scared people wouldn't buy the games. Especially as it was very close to the RE1 remake.

  • @lordvlygar2963

Clue is one of my favorite movies. It's a great "whodunnit" comedy that is also full of references to the board game.
Letterkenny was a fantastic show, but it ended the other year. If that article was from a year ago, I figure they were talking about the spinoff show: Shoresy. I don't know much Canadian culture, nor am I a rural person; but Letterkenny really hits the "local weirdos and their haunts" stereotype that seems to belong to every town.
As for video game adaptions, there are two ways to go about it:
    1. Copy the game and characters exactly and basically remake the cutscenes with live actors.
    2. Take the name and basic idea then have someone bring their own flare and vision to it.
Obviously, the RE movies have been doing #2 and I'm not totally against it because they are their own thing not connected to the game canon. To me, the RE canon has gotten silly, melodramatic, and way less impactful. So, making movies like WTRC is a welcomed change. I don't like that Constantine has a stranglehold on the property, but I won't deny that they can slap the name Resident Evil on any script they pick out of a pile and it will have a major draw that opening weekend. Perhaps Constantine can try something different and go for the #1 adaption next time. Or make a WTRC sequel with Johannes. Maybe Fede Alvarez would be a good idea as director if a new movie.

What I've been thinking is do a movie using the novelisations as inspiration and show HOW the S.T.A.R.S. became involved.
Start off with Raccoon City being revealed to be a a normal and happy community before it all turns to crap.
For example, in the first book, Jill is hit hard when two young girls, about 7 and 9, become the first victims. Naturally, you couldn't show them attacked but have them wander off, giving their Mums a hug beforehand which makes it hurt more when they're informed of their gruesome deaths. You could have news broadcasts, the first of which could be:
NEWS ANNOUNCER (V.O.): "This is the six o'clock news with your reporter, Lisa Redmond.
LISA: "Good evening. All of Raccoon City is in mourning tonight after the bodies of two young girls, aged just seven and nine years old, were found in local parkland. The girls' parents became concerned after they failed to return home at an agreed time. Police have yet to reveal the cause of death only stating that the exact details are far too gruesome to reveal on this bulletin."
Chief Irons could also be questioned by reporters as to what he intends on doing about the unexplained deaths.

RE games are a ton of fun to play but the plot has always been their weak point. So when you remove the fantastic gameplay, you're left with dumb and often convoluted stories that really can't stand on their own. Even the canon animated films are terrible despite having the freedom to tell any story or introduce any new characters.

I can't tell you how many times I get comments like Oh you're an RE youtuber, I know Resident Evil, I've seen the movies.
This is definitely a problem since there's no arguing that none of the movies have been an accurate representation of the games, WTRC came the closest (not by much) but it still failed (which is why I prefer it over the other movies). Resident Evil's movies need a reboot, but directors simply saying they are fans isn't enough anymore. Heard the same from Mortal Kombat 2021 and that's a lot like Welcome to Racoon City: All costumes, no concept. There needs to be better talent attached, and a better vision for the series. And by that, I think I might mean gatekeeping. Something like the Netflix show NEVER should have happened if Capcom actually cared about their characters. This is what Nintendo did with Mario, and it made them a billion dollars. They learned from their past mistake. Why can't RE?

With a bunch related themes, and concepts crammed in, and the game title slapped on it. Prime example, the Milla Jovovich resident evil movies. A made up story, with made up protagonist, and a handful of zombies, one boss enemy from one of the games, and one or two characters from the game that serve as supporting characters, when they should be main characters, and Resident Evil slapped on the cover.
