A lot of the commenters don’t realize this dream of a car is 10 years old now. 10 years ago this was smoking everything in existence and it will still smoke everything below the top 1 percent. Koenigsegg and Bugatti were the only production companies in the same breath and even they probably tipped their hats to John Hennessy for this monster. Folks this comes out of the box like this. No assembly required. That’s worth admiration.

I mean, the Hennessy Venom GT has 1244hp while weighing 2,743lbs.
It has more than the Veyron SuperSport, but the original Veyron was 987hp at 4,162lbs.
Then the SS was 1184hp at around the same weight.
The point being; instead of solely adding horsepower to a car, why not lighten it?

I watched this video when it first dropped, and 11 years later its still one of my favorite car videos of all time. The story, the edit, the raw reaction, the passion, it cant be faked. Its one of John and Matts greatest creations.
It looks absolutely stunning! The long wheelbase and the wide, aggressive styling fits a "Lotus" so well, incredible! And the power is... well... crazy!

Joseph Hausser No it isn't. The One:1 is faster and quicker, so is the Agera RS. The Agera S and Agera R are both faster as well, but not quicker. The Venom GT is only faster and quicker than the Agera.

I love Hennessey Venom GT.
1. Modified Beautiful Lotus body and chassis. (Longwheel base & WideBody🤤)
2. GM LS engine with Twin turbocharged.
3. Manual transmission.
4. Brembo big Brake.
5. Finally, its design was neat and tidy with many carbonfiber exterior and interior.
Judging by these comments its clear that the entire point of this video has escaped about 90% of you people. Sure there are other cars that are faster or look better than the Venom, but that's not the point. The point is that driving the Venom is a completely unique EXPERIENCE. A Bugatti or Pagani or Mclearen may be prettier or faster, but they are not as satisfying or as visceral of an experience as driving the Venom is. Like Hennessey said in the video, you simply feel like you are "along for the ride" with those cars. Whereas with the Venom, you are constantly challenged by the car, which keeps you engaged and entertained. The Venom GT is alot of things, but it sure as hell isn't boring to drive.
There aren't any other cars that are faster...just saying.

as an avid car fan I believe the Hennessey Venom GT is absolutely one of the fastest car out there. For a million dollars I would definable say its worth it. Just the mere presentation makes worth buying. The streamlining, that powerful v8 engine, with that sweet singling turbo. I believe the presenter alols did an awesome just by painting the picture in my mind about this car. By the way love the show, perfect choice of hosting, love the graphics, content was fairly good, love he camera especially those of the car while on the highway.

Love to Hennessey for this. The veyron was nice in reaching 400kph but it just looked like a heavy block of cement with the aerodynamics of a pre 2001 twin tower. An amazing feat of engineering and a good reminder of the importance of power to weight.
I do think however that in truth besides power to weight, when your goal is reaching the highest possible top speed, they need to look more into aerodynamics (and possibly making them dynamic, as in live adjusting downforce to current speed). The downforce this body generates at its top speed is probably way too much, hence slowing it down.

Thank you for saying TUNED, now ignorant people tell me that the Bugatti sucks compared to the TUNED Venom GT, but the difference is TUNING. A stock Bugatti SS hits like what like 255. A TUNED Hennessey hits 270, now keep in mind that the TUNED VenomGT isn't even a production car an was TUNED to hit that. The Bugatti SS already hits 255 WITHOUT BEING TUNED(emphasis on the words TUNED and WITHOUT). So everyone who thinks that the TUNED Venom GT is faster than a stock Bugatti SS is correct, but a stock vs aftermarket and TUNING, that's just not fair. Take away the TUNING and the stock Bugatti SS would win

Track is subjective to driver skill though, an experienced driver would perform better with the Hennessey versus the Porsche in a road course (if say a 16 year old was behind the wheel of the Porsche)

Took a couple of pictures of Mr. Hennessey giving me the "thumbs up" while in his 800 HP Hellcat at the end of Mopar Fest 2015.......he sat there for a couple of minutes while I got my camera settings straightened out and waited for me to take the pics....what a great individual!

i love how people hate on john hennessey... do you know how much money goes into Research and development? he needs an entire transmission, driveshaft, diffs, mounts, etc. He needs to find the best turbo setup, the best cooling setup, the best aero, the best body rigidity, he has a bunch of staff, a garage, he needs to get it certified to be 50 state legal... the list goes on. For him to get the car to this level he probably spent well over a million dollars. On top of that, he's gonna be funneling his profits back into the company to work on the hennessey venom GT2 which will be much more of a clean slate car than the venom gt.. people don't think of anything these days

To all you nuts out there comparing this to a P1, Veyron, LaFerrari etc, who actually cares if this wouldn't beat them around a circuit. Even here in the UK no one drives around corners fast on public roads, its all about acceleration in a straight line, overtaking someone, acceleration from the lights etc, especially say from 30mph to 100mph. This car is damn cool and Mr Hennesey is one of the best automotive engineers in the world. Oh, and I'm from England XD

John Hennessy is a con artist and a crook. He overcharges all his customers, and half his customer builds he doesn't put on the right parts, completes, or even sells their stock parts. He's had several lawsuits against him and has been accused of stealing hundreds of thousands from his customers, all of whom have proof. And these same people have had their car sit at his shop for years without getting completed. It's all been well documented. John Hennessy is the last person I'd take my super car too.

They have a twin turbo Viper engine(8,4 liter V10) in that thing and it only produces 1244bhp, the koenigsegg one:1 has a twin turbo 5 liter V8 with 1360 bhp. And the Koenigsegg has a better interior, it pulls 2G in the corners and has 600kg of downforce at 250kph. This car is overrated and will probably blow op in the corners. #Koenigseggissuperior
Incorrect. It does not have a Viper engine. It has a GM LS motor. By your claim, this car makes ~100hp less than the K, but the Venom is faster. And actually, it corners just fine from what I have seen.

Okay so I see people commenting on car speeds. All of those speeds are estimated and have never been hit. Except the Veyron SS. The Veyron SS held the speed record of 269 mph, which is higher than its estimated speed, while the Venom doesn't hold the new record for its estimated top speed. The new speed record is 270 mph by the Venom GT which is 9 mph slower than its estimated top speed.

This is so unoriginal, like are you kidding me? A Lotus based body and all that was needed for the idea of the car to come alive was, and I quote "So we joked around about taking the Lotus Elise Exige and pulling the Toyota four-banger and putting a four-liter v10 Viper motor on the back and one day I had an artist draw a sketch and I look at the sketch, and say....we could build that."
The funny things is when he said "we joked around" he didn't mean that as you hear it, he meant it as like we LITERALLY took the Lotus body and copied it. Then making adjustments to fit the motor customizes the body for aerodynamics, which he did not freely cared to mention. (because it is almost all of the Lotus). He also previously exclaimed how throwing a couple more horsepowers may not be the answer (no shit) and making the car lighter is what we needed (no shit either), either he is trying to explain to the viewers that this is ametuer hour or is a very unoriginal man with lost for words.
He also banters saying "The thing about the Veyron or other supercars that come out of Europe they are very fast but they are very antiseptic - (scrupulously clean or pure, especially so as to be bland or characterless.) and you just kinda feel like you're along for the ride almost like as if you got someone for a chauffeur....THIS CAR YOU GOTTA DRIVE IT! You gotta use your brains you gotta use your skills. And it will reward you or punish you according to how well you use this skills."
John Hennessey is like teaching Usain Bolt how to walk. Europeans are fast and they ARE NOT antiseptic....they've had hundreds of years on product making and have advanced tremendously on luxury and fast track time cars. (like Bugatti, Porsche, Ferrari, and oh so much more.) He describes European cars as easy going and like essentially a playground toy, which in most aspects it's arguable, but the fact of experience in car making over the Henessey, is unmatched as if he thinks he is the best and that European cars aren't. He also explains saying that you gotta use your brains and skills....on what? Going on a straight line? And trying not to hit anything because you say the car is scary, because you don't know how dangerous and how most likely the chassis is so stiff? Because that car has not taken one turn in the video.
John Hennessey has no experience compared to most Europeans. He talks hot shit, about his car when in return he essentially copied the Lotus body. European cars are not easy to drive and take a tremendous amount of patient and skill, especially the Porsche, as it has been well-known for it's beautiful corner taking. This car will most definitely win on a drag race, over most cars. But nevertheless he gave a lack of respect to European cars and ranted on how he put 1244 bhp. Completely ridiculous, cocky, ignorant, and just down right no respect for the other experienced cars in Europe.

I really admire the craftsmanship of the veron, reliability & ability to do these fast speeds all the time.....So many cars on the internet where its makers claim it to do this and that yet it wont last due to lack of engineering. I dont like the lotus look & the cheap Halford's steering wheel is just not good enough. Bugatti could strip its car down to bare nothing & it could top that. yet bugatti has air con & all mods. I expect your from the US & just think that driving around in a 6 litre truck is big & intelligent & a toyota 2 litre Jap made is just as good if not better, Building a car just to beat the veron is Pathetic really when sales will prove which car is better.
No I was born in Italy and just because shows like Top Gear says the Veyron is so great in conjunction to it being so fast doesn't mean much... Speed is Speed.. If this was an electric car I'd be just as impressed. Plus the price difference and in my opinion the Venoms look is much better.. Again though that's just my opinion.
