I've watched this video so many times and for some reason I keep getting the impression that Jay Leno isn't too impressed with the Venom GT. I wonder am I the only one that noticed it or am I wrong about it.
Because Jay knows cars. He knows this is just a kit car. He never took it seriously. Makes perfect sense to me.

This car, and Hennessey himself, are not to be compared with Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Ferrari, or any other supercar manufacturer. We all know it's fast. But at the end of the day it's still a $1,000,000 tuned Lotus, built by a guy with a bad attitude and a general understanding of tuning Chevrolet engines.

Yup. Watch the show where Jay has on Christian Koenniggsegg. He told him hes not crazy about the whole; take a body and stick a bunch of others peoples parts in it. Plus he saw that the detail fit and finish is probably pretty poor.

I was just thinking that in my mind. All the negative comments yet, these comments won't stop the hennessey gt from making its mark in a positive way. A real drivers car! Was anyone paying attention? I'll also take a stick any day over a computer controlled and assisted car. Those might as well drive themselves!!
expert here and let me tell you now since i have a proper thread to rant on, hennesy didnt even adjust the hydrolocking dampers to the right SPI adjustment flux. so they are so dumb, and turning the lutrux egixle into a hyper car was a very poor decision, all of the motors cylinders dont even move properly inside the piston sleeves, AND fora car thats supposed to do 270mph it doesnt have enough Nm of downforce last time i checked it only made 800 ft pounds of downforce torque. just a death trap really.

I like Hennessey's design style where he selects parts in a way as to have a large stress tolerance overhead. It means this thing will rarely break down and will continue to operate after decades of use without major repairs/renewal. He even sleeved the cylinders for increased stress tolerance from the extra pressure of the twin turbos.

It's not just about the power, it's about the engineering that went into it. Look how balanced it is and how well it hooks the power
Hennessey has come under fire recently for not delivering. Many people went to him for custom cars and got nothing in return.
There's a reason the name was changed from Henessey motorsports. This has been an issue for the better part of a decade and a half. Check the viper and vette forums.

John and his team have done an amazing job on these cars. I'm still shocked that they're still so underappreciated but, being a native Houstonian myself, I've known about these guys for a long time now and they've been doing awesome work for quite a while.

the veyron is just a masterpiece of a car, fast, beautiful, well thought out, the Venom is fast yes but it isnt the safest thing on the Planet, its basically a kit car, its just recently became street legal, it essentially wants to kill you.
Deante Haney I totally agree with you, Volkswagen built the Veyron to prove that they were capable of making a car that looks good, drives like no other car and beats every other car, and to top it off they said each Veyron costs 5 million to build and they are selling them for just over 2 million, That's one hell of a loss, Whereas hennessey built this car just to say we built a car that beats the Veyron, They didn't care about outsourcing the design and parts, making the car undriveable at high speeds for the average person who can afford it but has little to none experience driving "Hyper cars", All they really care about is building the car at the cost they are building them for and selling them for absurdly high numbers, Which I bet it doesn't cost half as much to build it.
And that's thing , Bugatti is sales so Veyrons now they actually make a profit, they are expensive but they are absolutely breathtaking. The venom is just a longer faster Lotus Elise .
I think Hennessy's main goal was to tackle the Veyron . Bugatti Veyron is a feat of technology, performance and innovation. It should the 8th wonder of the world lol. If I had a $1 million I'd put it towards a Veyron anyday

Deante Haney Im sorry bud but the veyron is just a butt ugly car in my opinion. Looks like the hunchback of Notre Dame. This car looks better aesthetically. The technology that went into both cars is amazing and I salute Bugatti and Hennesey on that aspect but if it came to it, I would buy this car because I feel I would be happier with the look, interior, and power it offers.
Just love Jay's simplicity in Dressing sense and how casual he is no matter you watch him which video,he;s simple and cool in all of them, even he doesn't care about his button loose open :)

Damn, this was the first Jay Leno's Garage video I ever saw. I was 12, had hardly a clue who Jay Leno was and that he had a cameo in Cars, and I've been watching this channel ever since. Crazy it's been 10 years.

For a car builder of something of this magnitude... You'd expect him to know that an LS2 is from a base model 2005-2008 C6 corvette, not a C5 Z06... That had an LS6...
I'm sure he's got a lot of other details to remember. It's easy for a detail or two to become fuzzy to remember.

cheap rates promote business here all carbon fiber, sleeved block, the car is realiable and can be daily driven, faster than a Bugatti which costs more, a 6 speed compared to every other supercar which uses dual clutch.

Very cool video Jay! But this is a true kit car, Stretched Lotus body, chevy small block V8, TT precision turbochargers, Ford GT gearbox, brembo breaks.... And it's $1 million? This car probably cost John 350,000$ to put together MAX. As with any Hennessey product he is ripping customers off as usual. He probably don't wana talk to you when the engine is toast and you bring it back.

This car is a beast.. Anyone that thinks its a Lotus is ignorant and hasn't studied up on it. There is very little Lotus in this car.. Seems most of the people that hate on it like the Veyron, and the Veyron is fast, but it looks like a bloated dead cow, and there is no point in owning one unless you want to show off... They don't handle well around a track even if its an SS, and would be nowhere near as fun to drive around a track or the town as a Venom would be... Just my 2 cents..

People saying its a lotus with an LS swap. Are you forgetting the whole carbon fiber body that's several feet wider than a lotus costs more by itself than your camry? Lets not forget transmission, brakes, suspension, ect. Its like saying a rally car is a ford fiesta....the only thing stock is the windshield.
That may be right. However, I can't help noticing distinct lotus elise/exige design-features. Perhaps not a 1 : 1 lotus but i can't help thinking they look long and hard to an Elise. Don't get me wrong : It's a killer-design!

this video is 7 years old, yet the video quality is really astounding
It's essentially a MILLION dollar kit car, with mostly off the shelf parts. A $20,000 kit car doesn't have ABS, or traction control, mainly because they add over $10,000 in parts, and more in development costs. The Venom doesn't have ABS because Hennessey is NOT an engineer, and can't calibrate the electronics. For a million bucks, there's no reason why he can't pay someone qualified to do it. "It's a driver's car" is a weak excuse.

There is a reason - he is stupid. It's like the American people woke up one day and realized "Heeey what if we make our cars lighter aswell... Then in theory they should go faster right? Because the power doesn't have to push the weight of 500 elephants... OMG this is revolutionizing! America is the best!" Personally, i can't understand why you would take a Viper and 1) put a chevy engine in it and 2) make it look like a Lotus Elise. As far as Americans "waking up"...please don't say stupid things. This is not a mass production car-it's a one-off million dollar toy.

Lotta people complaining about price and all I hear is, "highest top speed in a production car." None of us can afford this sort of vehicle anyway; the point isn't price, the point is the engineering. It's a brilliant machine. That is worth a million bucks.

@@cncit But, the wheelbase is .5m longer. It has 243km/h faster top speed. It goes 0-100 3.8s quicker. It has 1406Nm more torque. 1110 more hp. A little taller; a little longer. And the Spyder is 12+mph faster than the Veyron Spyder. The Spyder has 1451hp. Next up>>>F5 @1600+hp. With NO Lotus anything. 24 to be built.

Hennessey's Venom GT is now reminding me of what the original Shelby Cobra was. It was simple, light, borrowed a body from a British carmaker, added a HUGE amount of power. It works and haters are gonna bitch about it but it does what it was supposed to do.

He would have to rip off a few more customers to be able to do that.
There's a _huge_ difference between active aero of the sort found on the Pagani Huayra--which _would_ require sophisticated development expertise--and the 911-type retractable spoiler, which is off-the-shelf technology like ABS or paddle shifters
The supplier Hennesy chose for this wing might not offer a collapsible, brake-switched mode; adding that wouldn't necessarily impose a significant weight pentalty, but it might mean integrating a different product, which could be a pretty big headache.
