I get that he has a bad record against top 10 opponents but penn state was in somewhat of a really bad spot when he took it over. Its not easy to take a mediocre team and win against these very established teams like OSU, Michigan, etc. because it takes a long time to bridge the talent gap. At least he has kept penn state relevant year after year. Its just one of those things that fans take for granted. Look at IU, 11-2 with Cignetti but lost first round in the playoffs yet all the fans are still elated because they have been historically really bad. He started his tenure at IU as (0-2) against top 10 opponents but that should be expected
@@roger9462 Yeah I see your point. This year I am very happy for what Franklin has does. But there are times where Franklin has made some really bad calls such as the 4 downs at the goal line against Ohio State. 9:04 that is not what people say. He can beat GOOD teams he can't beat the Elite teams (top 5 teams). He is 1-13 against top 5 ranked teams and that one was because of a blocked field goal.
@@TheBillykurtz everyone, everyone here it is. Even his win against a top 5 doesn't count! I'd say if we beat ND and get into the national championship he has won a big game. Imagine if PSU got into the 4 team playoff and won the first game but lost in the championship, that would ruin the narrative.
Your point is based on hypotheticals. We know that the bye can be detrimental to teams and psu took a while to warm up but as soon as we got the offense going, it was over. We beat them in every way in the 3 phases. Special teams, Defense and Offense. It’s not really an argument tbh and if anyone thinks it is, they just don’t know football.

I disagree with it but the only way he will get credit this year is to win the CFP. This year even beating ND wont be enough bc ND is also not a powerhouse. As others put it, we want more from him but the supports also realize the limitations of his tenure. The position of the program when he took over and as much as we love PSU, its not as attractive to a HS/portal recruits as a major/coastal city.
