    Adam specifically said the reason he doesn't kill Charlie is because her and the other hellborn are pardoned from the extermination. It's only Sinners who qualify to get culled. He is just following orders. I suspected too, that he never ate the fruit of knowledge of good or evil. So he doesn't have a sense of wrong or right, but just possesses obedience to the directives given to him by his creator, and that's what gets him into Heaven.

      @@clouds9914 He said he was going to her Hotel first. By the treaty he can't kill Charlie, but he can kill all her friends. Even though it seems like it should be beyond an Angel's authority to hurt each other, he maimed Vaggie and can probably finish the job.
      That doesn't mean that magic is preventing him from harming Charlie, but that Heaven generally values order and rules, and there would be serious consequences to killing Charlie. it would basically bring about the war on Heaven that Sera allowed the extermination to deter.
      Adam is hot headed and stupid enough to probably doom Heaven, but he could better accomplish his goals by killing all of Charlie's mortal friends and having her live on bearing the guilt of gathering them there. Plus, there is a chance that Charlie is at her Dad's PL and can probably only be killed by like Sera or Emily.

      well yes and no certain demons can only be struct down by angels if higher rank Lucifer and lillith being only able to be struck down by shera as atleast lore wise she out ranked lucifer . charlie being the daughter of the 2 would mean she can only be struck down by an angle of atleast serahim level like emily ( give or take) any demon that an exterminator finds can be killed they arnt off the chopping block but they have the actual means to escapoe by jsut going to anthor layer if need be.
      i would say the exterminators are jsut slightly below overlords in actual power but because of anti demon weapons and demons nto knowing they can actually fight back outside the current overlords it puts the ball heavly in the exterminators court

      This was an actual codified law in ancient times. I feel like we are trying to apply our modern view of morality to characters who are so old they do not operate by it. Adam is not a sinner because he either did not sin as the bible understood it (did not eat the fruit), or he did eat the fruit, but his sin was later absolved (Jesus absolved everyone of the original sin specifically, with his death).
      Of course the show might not be nearly thit well thought out.

Like in his line "I've never made a mistake in my fu**ing life" does come off as narcissistic, but it kinda proves he's not a bad person on purpose, he believes what he's doing is right. No one seemed to really tell him what he's doing is shitty in the first place. A person can't change without people letting them know they need to. She has created a vast world with fun lore and memorable characters but sadly they are fairly one dimensional outside of a select few. Anyway, jokes aside. In some parts, Adam is completely right in his sentiments during the song Hell is Forever. Sinners had their time to be good and behave, they squandered that that chance in life and now have to face the consequences, being in hell where they'll meet their final end at the hands of Angels during the extermination. In alot of parts this comes off as "Sinners are sorry now because they're in trouble" rather than true remorse for the life they've lived, Sinners trying to take any pass they can get to escape their punishment.

    @irontemplar6222 7 месяцев назад +51

    I will also mention this. While rude, and crass (much like most of the characters in the show) on reflection. We don't actually see Adam do that much that is evil or even sadistic aside from the exterminations, but even then while he at least appears to enjoy it (I say appears because Lilith might have more to do with it then anything) from his perspective where nary a single soul has been redeemed from heaven if its even possible. In which case his job is one of necessity especially if their were rumblings of uprising. Further these demons exist in a kingdom of the man who stole his wife, corrupted his children, and then went on to steal his second wife aswell....
    Honestly that entire last fight in the finally... I actually couldn't feel anything for the cast. Despite the angels being on the attack it felt like they were the rebels attacking the death star. Every scene shows angels getting slaughtered with not so much as a single causality being taken on screen except for Sir Pentious (But that gets undone) And all of Adams fights he is struggling to get hits in with them while they most beat and degrade him the whole fight. The only fight you can say he "won" is the one with Alastor, but even then it feels more like Alastor got overconfident, and Adam got a lucky hit in.
    Then when lucifer came in and starting beating him while also salting the wounds (Well I took both your wives so I guess I'm just better then you) I couldn't help but feel like the show was being exceptionally tone deaf. Or possibly alluding to the possibility that maybe lucifer is not the nice dad figure we think he likes to present himself as. (But that seems doubtful to me as that would be complex, and personal, and this show doesnt seem to want to go past surface level with most characters.)

    The extermination is also Lilith’s fault, she wants to empower demons and such and the Seraphim are worried they could rise up and threaten heaven. So it all comes back to Adam and Lilith.
    I think Lilith is plotting to use Charlie to do just that. Charlie by default looks like Lucifer and acts like him too, in the flashback we see Lilith have horns that we only see when Charlie is angry.
    I think Lilith is working in the shadows to provoke an actual war between heaven and hell, probably told Carmilla Carmine(THE weapons manufacturer in hell) how to kill Angels, I bet she’s the one that is referenced to have a leash on Alastor. My bet is after Alastor lost his fight with Vox he struck a deal with Lilith while in exile for power in turn helping her use Charlie for the war and that’s why Alastor is so hostile to Lucifer when they meet as Lucifer would be a threat to Lilith’s plans and her deal with Alastor.
    Lucifer doesn’t seem to care about the sinners and doesn’t mind them being exterminated and only cares about hellborn demons namely Charlie. Contrasted to Lilith who wants to empower them needs Charlie to join her side but Charlie would want peace.
    Someone in the hotel is dying(Angel Dust), Alastor is going to be a catalyst for it or allow it to happen to break Charlie for Lilith’s endgame calling it.

    • @SwfanredLotr
      @SwfanredLotr 7 месяцев назад +14

      That seems pretty plausible. In the pilot is very much clear that Alastor is also a villain and is only helping Charlie for amusement, not for altruism. Also there is brief scene were Alastor stares at a portrait of Charlie and her parents with a grin, probably hinting a past conection.

My theoretical feeling is that Adam is a foil to Charlie. Sure hes basically a exact opposite of her (A**hole, foul mouth, loud and annoying) but something tells me that in same way while still prideful and a jerk, he could also be just as naive as Charlie is (okay, maybe not THAT naive, but still). Since he had seen both Lilith and Lucifer get punished for their actions and the angles basically letting him scott free, why would he think he did anything wrong if angels basically praised him as an embodiment of good while Lilith (and to extent Lucifer) embody evil.

What if this Adam is like the one from Paradise Lost who ate the apple willingly after he saw Eve had fallen and couldn't bear to live without her? So he ate it to join her, knowing it would cause him to fall too? So in his eyes, it wasn't a mistake. It was actually an act of love.

      I mean... I kind of like that there's not a clear delineation in personalities between demons and angels. It helps bolster the theme that evil isn't something you *are,* it's something you *do.* That everyone is a complex individual who can choose to be evil or good based on their own actions, no matter what their past or current situation. The hotel itself is founded on that principle, it'd be a little weird to subvert that by making an entire species "inherently more moral" than another.

Just because he is fun for the audience and our protagonist's ally doesnt mean he is near a good guy. And he is the NORM! Ive been told not to let one bad apple ruin the bunch, this is a case of saying there are good apples if you dig deep enough through the festering rotten pile. Adam's job is to destroy those rotten apples so the pile dont get to big. If our story was told from heaven's view instead of from hell than Adam would just be a justified asshole. Adam, the first human, was given the responsibility of taking care of God's creation. He was also tasked with looking after Eve, his specially created partner. Despite their idyllic life, both Adam and Eve succumbed to temptation, breaking the only rule set by God. As a result, they were expelled from their paradise, forced to face the challenges of survival.
    To add to Adam's struggles, his eldest son committed the first murder in human history by killing his younger brother. This story highlights the immense pressure Adam faced, failing as a father and contributing to humanity's suffering. The potential for a nuanced and complex villain is evident, but in Viv's narrative, complexities and depth for villains seem to be lacking.

      (Copied from one of my previous comments)
      As much as I like mythology inspired lore and worldbuilding, in Hazbin Hotel it reeks of one-sided and borderline woke portrayal of characters and the world around them.
      How can Adam, one who wasn't part of the original sin, be the douchebag that embodies the 7 deadly sins of humanity and the hypocricy of heaven, but Lilith and Lucifer are these good visionaires, that were "wrongly" sent to hell, because the rulers of heaven are these hypocrites, who don't even know if their rules are true at all and didn't agree with them. What's next? Eve is a misunderstood mother, that tried to guide her children into a life of freedom and self-discovery, but her husband turned them bad with his entitled toxic masculinity? Give me a break!
      Even the fan theories of Lucifer were more interesting, than another mentally suffering, but loving, strained daughter-obssessed father, like Blitzo and Stolas. Wouldn't be surprised, if God is later portrayed as another neglectful and/or abusive father.
      Like some comments I've read, if Adam is too much like Mammon, then Lucifer is too much like Stolas. Can't wait to see Lilith to be a copy-paste of Carmilla and Eve being a carbon-copy of Millie, with a Moxxie on her side.

      I would've found the story more interesting, if they left the angels as doubtful opposition and not as a hypocritical one, and instead of a celestial war, we got a lot of characters from hell exploring the nature of their sins and finding slowly their way into redemption, while facing the resistance of those sinners, who would see redemption as problematic.
      At the end of the day, the show is about redeeming all the sinners in hell. Which goes along with the Verse of "One day, hell shall be empty".

      @MindlessNoteGridCRTRWRTR 7 месяцев назад +24

      @@Lolamy they can be shit but they do not hurt others and respect each other as long as they do what their role requires of them. You could argue that what counts as sinning is that you forget your role or overstep yourself and is overtly selfish, hence what Adam wrote " act selfless, do not steal, stick it to the man" as in be one with where you belong, be respectful of the boundaries you are in, and stick to the role you were given (not standing against the heaven's or god's set order). Adam may not know the nuance of cursed humans since he did not consume the fruit of knowledge, only following his purpose since he was created and the 3 vague reasons you could be in heaven might just be of what he takes from his own life, not from the standpoint of normal humans. Also note that the intro to the show was from a book possibly written by Lilith or by her servant so the point of Adam actually demanding obedience might be a bias from Lilith. As far as we know, Adam could have just asked Lilith for help with many things(they were made for the purpose of ruling the garden, which if you ever tried managing a garden by yourself, it's deceptively difficult, while literally born adult and having the learning curve of 18years squished into a few months). Lazy and selfish could be why she left, having big ambitions, she latched to a high ranking but rebellious angel(Lucifer, who she would leave despite how "madly inlove" they were to disappear and do whatever she wanted, raising hell in her perview. You could say what gets you into heaven is basic human decency by god's design, not politeness and tolerance stemming from the fruit of knowledge's influence.
      TL;DR: Adam is the base requirement for heaven's acceptance of a soul, not the human(sinner) understanding of what qualifies them as eligible to enter heaven, therefore it is only a bad system for those cursed by the fruit allowing misguided knowledge to dictate their way of thinking of what is human, not the requirement god setup.

    Small corrections and notes:
    1. In Hazbin's intro, they never mention God at all. They say heaven is ruled by the angels, the angels created Adam, the angels cast Lucifer out, etc. Main reason I mention that is it's inaccurate to say that Hazbin's Adam was "created by God".
    2. They also never say anything about the Fruit of Knowledge making Adam and his descendants mortal. In fact, they never even imply they were immortal to begin with. All they say is that eating the fruit let *evil* into the world and created hell. It's entirely likely Adam (and every human) was always mortal, and until the fruit was eaten, every human who died would just end up in heaven.
    3. Not a correction, more a confirmation: that white angel we saw is definitely not Eve. She has 6 wings, which is a very specific Seraphim thing. Lucifer has that as well, but the Exorcists (who, at least in Adam's case, are the class of angels who used to be human) only have 2 wings.
    But I do need to say that *every* asshole, and *every* evil person, has a point of view that justifies their behavior to themselves. No one is a dick or evil knowingly. But just because you can understand *why* someone is a dick, that doesn't mean they're any better, or any less responsible for their behavior. We might be able to understand why Adam hates demons, but his indiscriminate hatred and his pleasure in the outright genocide of them is still bigoted and evil. Especially since Lute strongly implies that, were it not for the truce with Lucifer, they'd be more than happy to murder all the hellborn demons, too; and plenty of them have never done anything evil in their lives.

      Depends on which version of the mythology you look at. In Jewish tradition (the writers of the Old Testament and foundation of the later Christian religion), there is no hell at all. In some interpretations of the Christian Bible, hell is for Lucifer and demons, not human sinners. (My father, for instance, is a Christian fundamentalist who believes, based on his interpretation of the Bible, that when we die, we just rot in the grave until Jesus returns. Once Jesus returns, sinners just continue to rot while the worthy are resurrected to live in paradise on Earth with Jesus for 1,000 years before ascending to heaven.)

    This makes me feel a lot better about Adam’s depiction, although I seriously doubt the show will take the same respectful, nuanced route you have.
    I’m a huge fan of traditional animation, but I’m also a very passionate Christian. While I really like Hazbin Hotel, I’ve always been a little worried about how the myths and symbols I cherish so deeply are going to be used.
    Watching the show is like watching a child play with rare, limited-edition toys you’ve owned and loved for a long time-you’re glad the child is getting enjoyment out of them, but you’re constantly terrified he’s going to drop one and break it.
    I’m not sure Vivian and her team really understand the ideas they’re playing with, but so far, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by their interpretation of them.

  • @arrrchdukemax8192

    Exactly, and we know Hazbin's university's Creation and so on myths from Charlie's book, written by Luci and Lillith.
    It's their Version, their Pow, not Absolute truth.
    Adam probably just wished to directly follow Heaven's rules, and his wify refused and found more cuckold hubby Luci.
    And he's mad cause actually Hell must've been place of the eternal punishment, not a 5star resort or hotel. In fact they just had eternal opportunities to live in their Sins. It's not just.
    Adam thought that Charlie acts like a naive girly teenager. And he's right. Cause the Sinner must earn the Redemption for their crimes in mortal life. Charlie didn't even asked why Sir P went to Hell. May be he killled 50 innocent lives.

    Wouldn’t it make more sense for Cain of Cain and Abel to be the first sinner. Lilith’s actions allowed for evil to enter the world but that doesn’t mean she sinned furthermore Eve may have eaten the fruit of knowledge but that doesn’t mean she sinned. While I know the show doesn’t follow the Bible in its entirety in the Bible the first sinner was Cain, who murdered his brother Abel out of jealousy.

    • @orianefaton1885

      Yeah, the fruit of knowledge give the knowledge of good and evil, but it doesn't mean you would inherently choose the "evil" option (sure you could make the arguement it doesnt guarantee "good" either). Especially when Eve and Adam knew heaven, in their case. So, they would wish to go back in there and do their best for it, I guess.
      And for Lilith, she may have fallen because she was with Lucifer (albeit she may have the position of first sinner, given that she is the one who helped tricking Eve into eating the fruit)

    @theundeadempire3640 7 месяцев назад +7

    I believe in the original story too he had two sons, Cain and Able. One murdered the other one because of sun existing. So Lilith and Lucifer did something extremely irresponsible which caused his family to kill his family if that happened in this universe.
    Another thing I want to mention is how the USs no cruel or unusual punishment was inspired by the enlightenment which was inspired by the Bible. Imagine your a parent and one of your kids breaks the other ones you or something and you punish them accordingly but you kid says that’s not good enough and demands you hurt them more. You’re the adult who knows better so you tell them no and that you handled it the was it should be handled and tell them they need to calm down. Later, you hear one of your kids scream bloody murder and when you go to investigate you find out your child cut the other ones hand off and threw it in the garbage disposal because you didn’t make them suffer enough.
    That’s why we don’t have cruel on unusual punishment in the US. Because the founders were religious and decided that’s how God feels when we punish eachother via torture. In the Hazbin Hotel universe Lilith and Lucifer’s actions are the cause of Adam having to watch that and much worse play out every day.
    From his perspective those two are like a cult that, even if not on purpose, did something stupid and as a consequence, accidentally caused your descendants to harm eachother in pursing one or even multiple of the seven deadly sins like greed or wrath.
    He sees sinners the same way you would see your child with mean tendencies if someone approached them with an offer of money or pleasure in exchange for killing their kinder sibling and then they actually did. Either in the heat of the moment or premeditated.
    There’s something called unconditional love where you love someone literally no matter what. That’s not how you should view the world. If your 21 year old drug addict child murders your innocent 8 year old one, you don’t have to live them anymore. You are allowed to hate them, especially if they don’t regret it.
    All humans are Adams descendants and heavens populace would be the kind, innocent child who lived good lives, and the sinners would be the ones who choose to be evil.

    My best friend and I actually love Adam! Everytime he said something about the demons deserving damnation or when singing about how hell is sopposed to suck I was like "He's got a point" I mean they are sinners and they did horrible things to get to hell and some of them even acknowledge this (alastor said just that in the pilot about angel, vaggie and himself). I can totaly get behind why Adam hates demons so much. Just think about the cast of the hotel, we have a mafiosi, a drinking gambler who is willing to give up everything in his life for just another spin or bottle, whatever the FUCK Nifty did but I assume it was rather horrifying and a cannibal serial killer who broadcasts himself killing others over the radio for fun in his spare time. Granted we don't know how Vaggie got into hell but we don't know nothing about her past so she could've been a really shitty person in life. the only inoccent in the hotel seems to be charlie and she led Tom Trench on fire in the pilot.

      I also have no clue how being a drinking gambler makes you evil lol
      And remember Helluva Boss teacher. You justify Adam for enjoying murdering demons as they “deserved it”, so what is her fault? She killed a man who cheated on her and a woman who he cheated with, they were definitely bad people, so how is it different from what angels do every year?
      And another example from Helluva Boss. Cherubs were not allowed back to Heaven because they ACCIDENTALLY killed an old man. How is it even fair?
      I wonder how people still believe for no reason that in this series only bad people go to Hell. Why are you all so freaking sure in that?

      In terms of Husk your right lol drinking and gambling doesn't get you to hell lol but giving your whole live up for it and persumitly fucking over the people you care about does lol and if you want to say "but you don't know that lol" there must be a reason and way how and why Husk became an overlord lol. he has to have done some shitty stuff in his time in hell at least lol.
      As for the teacher, brutally murdiring her husband just because he cheated is not a fucking good thing. you don't deserve to be fucking executed for cheating, also we don't know what happend before they fucked, maybe she seduced him, maybe she got him drunk or on drugs he didn't really sound like he had it all together when she split his fucking head open with a bullet. I'm not counting injuring Martha with the chainsaw since she deserved it. NOT for being the affair of the teachers husband but for being a cannibalistic serial killer.
      In case of the cherubs they didn't know that that guy actually deserved death and also punishing souls is not their job and at that point he was still a mortal human and not an imortal sinner. the shows obviusly differentiate between the two.
      Also never not in this or any other comment have I EVER sad that ONLY bad people go to hell in this show! But it is fair to assume it since well the whole fucking concept of the hotel is about turning BAD people into GOOD people and to do that you need what? you guessed it bad fucking people.

      Exactly, he did all of that AFTER his death, AFTER his contract with Valentino. That doesn’t mean that in his life he did something wrong willingly.
      Nah, cheating IS a serious sin. I would even say it is worse than just being a killer because you don’t just make suffer a random person but betray someone you love. So I still don’t get how Angel deserves death just because he dared to be born in a mafiosi family while this guy didn’t.

    I honestly think he partook in the fruit and then lived his life decently enough to get into heaven. Maybe a little bit of bias was involved, between him being The First Man and also the idea that his worse traits may have grown over the centuries he spent in heaven is possible. Also its doubly interesting if Eve went to Hell here - which is plausible since Adam seems to have many women in heaven and we didnt even get a mention of Eve. Imagine Adam making it to heaven only to find out his wife whom he loved ended up in hell, or even worse - him dying first and waiting for Eve in heaven for years upon years only for her to never show up. Now, its all speculations and so far hes pretty much just a one-note villain, which is lackluster to me but might remain the case.
