Harry Kane is a great goalscorer, no question, but there is no evidence that any other player wouldn't have scored as many. Kane, for instance, wouldn't have scored the goal Ollie Watkins scored the other day simply because he spends most of his time lumbering around outside the box or in midfield, or even in defence. Vardy would have scored a hatful given the chance, for instance.
He's got to qualify first. Then face the same problems Southgate did - tired, injured players at the end of a long season. Then there's the issue of getting them to play his style. A World Cup in the heat of central/North America's summer and requiring to get through 8 matches to win a World Cup on foreign soil, where keeping the ball and progressing it is paramount. A tall order indeed! Let's just enjoy the ride and not expect too much - history tells us it is likely to end in disappointment.
These are the perennial problems for England. Problems which can be best addressed by rotating the squad and using young hungry players who are in peak form and fitness instead of relying on the same favorites game after game. Southgate had incredible squad depth at his disposal during the last euros and he failed to use it.
@@badabing8884We couldn't keep the ball as we were playing with 10 men thanks to Kane, plus Foden and Bellingham were gassed after playing every minute, And they were all trying to play in the number 10 space with only Saka out wide. Southgate totally screwed it up
Just showed again that Kane either needs to play 10, or be an impact sub going forward; we need to build Watkins & Solanke's experience so we have other options incase Kane is as ineffective as he was in the Summer
What experience do they need? Watkins did great as an option off the bench at the euros. Solanke can have some minutes but whilst both are talented neither of them is good enough to displace Kane as a starter. Kane's also not going to play as a 10 when we have 3 other excellent players for that position. Same sort of nonsense that was spouted with Trent to try and squeeze him into the team in midfield which was a disaster. Moving players' positions is stupid, especially when they've never played in said positions. We have a very talented squad so unfortunately good players will miss out on game time, that's the nature of international football.
Kane's fine leading the line as a 9, he does just as much as the likes of Giroud, Immobile, Morata etc. and the narrative of him being static, slow, going missing is systematic, not a problem with him. The difference is that those teams work better around that focal front man, better runs from midfield and support from the wingers.
Nobody talking about Liam Delap. He's scored 6 goals in his first 10 Premier league games. Not even Kane, Rooney, Owen or Shearer got that. And he's doing it for Ipswich Town. Liam Delap is the true successor of Harry Kane. He's got all of Kanes attributes, but he's as strong as Rooney, as fast as Owen, and as clinical as Shearer.
Bowen came on in the Euros one game and looked more threatening than anyone else, put a great ball across from the byline. He was done dirty in that tournament not getting back on after that.
Ireland fan here.. nothing to do with ireland not having any luck, the FAI simply don't care about the League of Ireland. Prize money for winning the league is about €150k... where as winning 2 games in EL or conference league qualifying rounds will net double that
Micah, though I agree that the issue Southgate had was an abundance of good players, the problem was that he was resistant to change either in personnel or tactics.
We've probably cemented two things from these 4 gamed. 1. The fa have rushed into overlooking any English manager , when Carsely would probably progress this team very well. 2. Kane just holds the team back, and we look much better without him.
He's not going to upset the big names, he's going to force their asses to actually fucking try every game and be in form, or they WILL get replaced. Rashford, MAGUIRE, Phillips, Grealish, etc all of them will have to actually be playing good to be picked. Tuchel having an actual standard will improve everything
Problem from Ireland perspective is Football is the No.4 sport in this country and Literal NO investment into sport in This country if it’s not GAA. It’s shocking. Painful to watch as a fan.
They do put investment into sport just not soccer, rugby is doing pretty well for what they have, obviously GAA all get treated well and boxers get a good amount of funding
They ruined the league a long time ago by splitting the north and south. Belfast Celtic having to disband over sectarianism was brutal because they were so good
@@deedyg575 there was a good reason for the split back in the day, but I agree, they should be looking to reunite the two associations, look at how successful the rugby team has been as a single Irish team
@@CianMcsweeney I don’t think there was a good reason, politics shouldn’t ever be apart of football plus in Ireland it’s seen as a British sport so there really shouldn’t be any problems that way
Getting the balance right is what Sir Alf did in 66 for those who know. Leaving out Greaves for one one can argue Alan Ball or Martin Peters over Ian Callaghan, point is Ball was a brilliant choice work rate and Peters and Hurst so if Tuchel has a clue he should think is Madueke a better choice than say Saka and frankly I’d say yes.
Kane has scored a third of his England goals from the penalty spot. So his reliability going forward may depend on how many penalties they get when he's on the pitch.
I hope TT does brilliantly and wins the world Cup, but I suspect he won't and that we'll see Lee carsley back in the hot seat for another stint in 2 years time.
What's wrong in picking a team that the manager thinks will best against whoever the opposition is? It's horses for courses, it's not written in stone that Kane has to play every game. Obviously he's a great goal scorer. But I've never seen anyone play consistently as bad as he did in the Euro's & the manager kept picking him & leaving him on the pitch far too long. I don't think the manager did Harry Kane any favours at all. The manger refusing to rest Kane in the Euro's, made a lot of fans frustrated with Kane. When it was the manager who kept picking him when he was clearly either out of form or injured.
I remember a time when we didn't have any lefties... Eriksson was hampered by a lack of options in forward positions, for instance and it might have contributed to the failure of the Golden Generation. Anyway, I think Carsley can count himself unlucky not to get the job... a lack of bravery on the part of the higher-ups.
Bellingham is class on and off the pitch, definitely the best player with an England passport. Just think of all the players who couldn’t be arsed because they know Tuchel will pick them, there a absolute disgrace
England are far less likely to win WC 2026 than Euros 2028 at home. The heat & humidity in the summer will be horrific if the last few years are an example. If England get a group based in Mexico or anywhere apart from Seattle, Vancouver or San Fran, they'll melt. At the Copa America this year officials were passing out & the players were drenched from 1st minute. And they were smart enough to play most games in evening which WC won't do to keep the Euro TV viewers. Any type of high energy, pressing game will leave an advantage to Spain & South American teams. This will also impact squad choice. TT should set up a summer camp there in 2025 to see the players in those conditions.. but that likely won't happen.
Only negative for me was it signalled the end of his coaching stretch... Lets hope the incoming coach doesnt have cause for wishing Lee had the full job...
Random thoughts: 1.Anyone who doesn’t rate Kane is weird! One of best strikers in Europe / if not the best & just won Golden Boot in Europe again! People want decent strikers ahead of him 🤯 2.Of course it’s your *COUNTRY* before your club. I’m actually glad Kane was a bit more open than usual and said it! 3. I don’t get the big deal about people being upset with people wanting ENGLANDS national team coach to be ENGLISH! Like Carra says too they don’t have to be the best English coach too - look @ Spain. Will just be weird if we finally win with a German coach. More pride if from England!
Do they (Teams in the Nations League) stay in the same league once finished for the year. In England's case will we start in League A next year. I know top two teams from the four groups in League A make the quarter-finals, winners going through to the last four determining a top team (Nation) winner. Them 8 teams this season are fair standings in the competition for a seeded structure within UEFA ranking, this League is brilliant for European and World football, like Copa America. To note the Champions League, Europa league & Europa Conference format is much better, brings in greater appreciation for the sport (football). England's must win tactic is yet to be seen in my opinion since Euro 1996. These new players have to prove their self to be a World-class player playing for a World-class team. They must appreciate their position here and work with the coach for their Nation. They also must leave their league football concerns with their domestic club and be a World-class Nation league team.
I'm not sure it's right to criticise England for being flat in the first half. It's just as much Ireland defending hard and well. But they can't keep that up forever. And the red card will have turned things around but, usually, just scoring is enough because then they can't just defend hard any more. It's also psychologically impactful to go behind after defending hard for most of the match; deflating. Combine that with fatigue and you can frequently see a team like England hammer a team like Ireland after that first goal goes in. The "red card killed the game" thing is so weird. That's suggesting Ireland were, in any way, in the contest to actually do anything to England, once they'd gone 1-0 down. I don't think they were. If anything, the red card made the game more of a spectacle for those who think that's more important. It didn't kill anything. All Ireland had was to defend hard and maybe catch England on the break... Maybe. And based on the first half, that wouldn't have likely happened more than once. Do we really think the red card is the reason they were out of the contest? These matches can be frustrating at times and England absolutely didn't handle them perfectly well in the Euros, but what else should Ireland do in this situation? Attack and let England batter them in the first half? What should England do? Lose their shape, attack without any care and let Ireland score on the counter? I thought England pretty much dominated and Ireland held fast, defending very well, until it just went wrong because... England eventually unlocked them with some great football. It's a part of the game. It's not great to watch but why is that such a thing, these days? It's only partly for entertainment purposes. But that's not their priority. England faced an Ireland who are inferior but rugged and played hard for 50 minutes and then fell short. Then England showed us, with a very youthful team, that they can be ruthless (which we've been criticised for not being many times). And with 4 first time scorers, one who played his debut. It was a positive match, all round. I enjoyed watching it.
Richards doesn't have a clue about Kane. People knock Kane saying he doesn't turn up in games. Scored 15 times out of 29 ganes in tournaments Euros and WCs. That's good. Then in qualifiers 40 goals. Only 8 goals in friendlies. Put speed around him, that England have. Tell them to run at players and that breaks lines. Kane will score and assist in these situations.
Very disappointing that you guys never even discussed how ridiculous it was that Marc Guéhi's pulldown of Ferguson was a stone wall penalty in the first half and for VAR to not even consider it was baffling. Ireland potentially going in 1-0 up at the break could have made this a completely different game. Hat's off to England for not holding back when Ireland went down to 10 men and all, but to not even mention the penalty shouts is disappointing
Micah Richards has unfortunately (time and again) shown that uninformed view that the media in England has greater scrutiny than other big footballing countries.
We had a corrupt association that where filling there pockets rather than building up a proper youth development to produce the players we need to compete.
Kane scores a lot of penalties in major tournaments that it. top scorer because of the excessive amount of games the national teams play against as gary said the "lesser opposition". How many goals would he himself, A Shearer or Jimmy Greaves have scored against teams like San Marino/Gibraltar/Luxembourg?
Most Irish players can also play for England, if they are good enough they won't play for Ireland either though.. Not these days. I think we will win the World Cup..
I think we played plenty of games against poor nations in the Lineker and Shearer eras so don't buy the argument of it being easier to score more now. Turkey and San Marino throughout 80s and 90s were awful. Morocco and Portugal we played in 86 world cup were also awful and we only scored 1 in two games against them
Football is the 4th popular sport now in Ireland so of course we don't produce good players that is why we rely on heavily English players with Irish ancestry that wouldn't get near the England team.
the one guarenteed penalty on szmodics and the possible on on ferguson wouldve completely change the game... crazy how scales got second yellow for giving away a penalty and walker or guhei didnt get noticed..
Every manager wants to win a major trophy. The PROBLEM England supporters have is that since '66 they think it's a birth right or something. A consistent issue I've seen with England squads over the years is that they let club rivalry get in the way of international duty. Players with that mentality need to wake up & cop on. At club level you play as one for the club. At international level you play as one for the COUNTRY. One you play for because that's your wage. The other you play for honour, pride, fans & the flag. They need to learn which is bloody which.
English FA - "We're going to follow a long-term strategy of developing managers from under-21 to senior team". Also English FA - "Carlsey won the under-21 Euros & the younger players love him. However, he lost one game with the senior team, so he's obviously useless. Let's appoint a German manager who rubs his players up the wrong way instead".
Gary calling out San Marino - forgetting they scored within 10 seconds to stop England going to usa 94; total coincidence he'd retired from England after euro 92 I'm sure
That goal didn’t effect anything, we finished behind The Netherlands on points! Ronald Koeman not getting a red card, then scoring against us cost us qualification
The referee robbed a "smaller" country yet again. Ireland should have had at least 1 penalty, if not 2. Of the 3 penalty decisions, the England one was the least obvious. Sending off ruined the game. Im not saying Ireland would have won the game l, but, judging on performances, 5-0 was never on the cards

Kane, for instance, wouldn't have scored the goal Ollie Watkins scored the other day simply because he spends most of his time lumbering around outside the box or in midfield, or even in defence. Vardy would have scored a hatful given the chance, for instance.
I think that Carsley has done a great job considering the pressure on him !!
First half Ireland put 20 men behind the ball... Second half was more penetrative WRT passing and the sending off clearly made all the difference.
Please give Alan a better camera. Its like he is on a different show from Meeks and Gary
@@martinkerrmusickeeping the ball? Did you watch the Euro 2024 final. Spain were different class.
Made an absolutely unreal pass to Bellingham to win the pen…
@@HessenUK He literally is unable to lead the line and is only effective from deep. Will be a worry if he starts any games in WC 26.
Bowen came on in the Euros one game and looked more threatening than anyone else, put a great ball across from the byline. He was done dirty in that tournament not getting back on after that.
Tuchel has hit the Jackpot 💪
Ireland fan here.. nothing to do with ireland not having any luck, the FAI simply don't care about the League of Ireland. Prize money for winning the league is about €150k... where as winning 2 games in EL or conference league qualifying rounds will net double that
Micah, though I agree that the issue Southgate had was an abundance of good players, the problem was that he was resistant to change either in personnel or tactics.
Englands fringe players did amazing ! Lee did an amazing job for tuchel! Take a bow lee carsley 👍
Imagine how many goals Kane wld av scored with Ronaldo/Salah pace. Leave off him alone, hes a legend & way way above Englands 2nd best strikers
Was good to see the England team pushing for more and more rather than sitting back after scoring the first goal!
That pass from kane 💫
I really hope Tuchel keeps Jones, Hall, Tino, Mdueke, Gordon, Harwood-Bellis involved
I hope Tuchel finds his way home to Germany and we hire a coach with a real connection to the country
Its not 'If' the media turns on Tuchel its 'When'
What a shot from Richards ! 19:49
Kane, while an exceptional goal scorer, may need to adapt his game as he doesn’t always possess the pace demanded in modern football.
Phillips will never be back
If it’s 3-4-2-1……
Pickford
Guehi(c) - Stones - Branthwaite
Trent - Rice - Mainoo - Saka
Bellingham - Palmer
Watkins
Suits the squad
Second 11
Henderson
Walker - Maguire - Colwill
Madueke - Jones - Wharton - Gordon
Rogers - Foden
Kane
Micah has grown in delivering his expertise without just goofing.
I’m still bewildered as to why Southgate completely abandoned the left flank at the Euros. It made absolutely no sense to me.
Problem from Ireland perspective is Football is the No.4 sport in this country and Literal NO investment into sport in
This country if it’s not GAA.
It’s shocking.
Painful to watch as a fan.
And everyone watches the EPL.
@@CianMcsweeney I don’t think there was a good reason, politics shouldn’t ever be apart of football plus in Ireland it’s seen as a British sport so there really shouldn’t be any problems that way
If Harry can trust the others to bring the ball up to the final third he could ease into playing a bit like gary
Carsley will be next WEST HAM UNITED manager........
It should be where you are born…..makes everything else easier.
No mention of a clear penalty not given in the first half? No Issue with VAR?
Never a penalty
Kane under tuchel was mega, tuchel is his best coach for goals per game
Kane I think was handled properly in the last Greece match. Put him on second half after the oppositions legs have the edge taken off them.
We're not great now, but give us time
Kane has scored a third of his England goals from the penalty spot.
No mention of Irelands clear peno not given in 1st half?
8:59 at least messis goals are in South America mostly: not against Lichtenstein and Gibraltar
Have I missed it? Have they talked about the David Coote stuff yet?
But is it not good to have replacements of quality for injuries or sheer fatigue.
Carsley would do well at Spurs. Not sure if his back room staff namely Cole would be welcomed?
Blame John Delaney for Irelands regression
Only negative for me was it signalled the end of his coaching stretch... Lets hope the incoming coach doesnt have cause for wishing Lee had the full job...
Random thoughts:
1.Anyone who doesn’t rate Kane is weird! One of best strikers in Europe / if not the best & just won Golden Boot in Europe again! People want decent strikers ahead of him 🤯
2.Of course it’s your *COUNTRY* before your club.
Why do we England fans go on like Kane is lewandonski hahaha make the team around Bellingham and go young .
He's a slow useless donkey that plays more in midfield than he does up front, He can be a bench player that is he.
@Delusional-People Oh dear
Remember how you were all demanding for Bellingham to move deep so Foden could play 😂
Foden is a better player than Bellingham
@michaelmulhall5007 😂 😂 😂
Is Carsley the first England manager to have a 100% tournament success rate with Englands mens team?
3:10 they have produced the players, England just took them all
Very disappointing that you guys never even discussed how ridiculous it was that Marc Guéhi's pulldown of Ferguson was a stone wall penalty in the first half and for VAR to not even consider it was baffling.
How many goals would he himself, A
Shearer or Jimmy Greaves have scored against teams like San Marino/Gibraltar/Luxembourg?
Not taking n e thing away from Kane but has'nt most of his goals come from pens not in in game play? Compared t rashford let's say
Didn't click fast enough. Another nice episode guys.
No they didn't stop up qualifying the Netherlands finishing ahead on points did
@@GIBBO4182 it was both - we needed a 7 goal swing as well as NL losing
@@andrewharrison7767 the goal meant nothing mate, we were 2 points behind Netherlands! We could’ve won 7-6 or 25-1…it didn’t matter!
He mentioned San Marino for a reason, didn't they have the longest run of games without a win ever?
“I don’t want to go on about Kane again as we’ve said it many times”…5/10 mins later Micah goes on about Kanes lack of pressing and pace AGAIN 😂
It’s so obvious though lol
So painfully obvious
3:00 Rice and Grealish left the chat...
Is being called up for England but knowing u will play very little or no play time better than just not being called up?
The referee robbed a "smaller" country yet again. Ireland should have had at least 1 penalty, if not 2. Of the 3 penalty decisions, the England one was the least obvious. Sending off ruined the game. Im not saying Ireland would have won the game l, but, judging on performances, 5-0 was never on the cards
Garry could not have played the Czechoslovakia not the Czech republic
I want to know Big Meeks' workout program
Kane wouldnbe better as the 10 and Watkins as a 11. Kane and Trent are the best passers of the ball England have
Ireland have glossed it we are shit & over hyped OR the premier season screws our tournament results through fatigue 🤷♂️
Feel like a lot of the euro leaks will have come from Cole Palmer 😂
