Gary Brooker died at the age of 76. (R.I.P.) 02.19.2022 Cancer. A remarkable and unforgettable voice. I Love You, Gary. I Love Procol Harum. Forever😭😭😭😭😭😭
Just found out today that he produced one of my favorite albums. Robin Trower's "Bridge of Sighs" from '74. Heard it today again among other 70's hard rock albums and it stuck out for it's production. So I looked it up, and it's not a Trower production like I'd always assumed. But his buddy from Procol Harum.
Brooker and Fisher really were incredible together. I think Chris Copping did an excellent job on keyboards, especially on GRAND HOTEL. Chris Thomas was one of truly great producers who deserved better recognition. HOME, BROKEN BARRICADES, EXOTIC BIRDS AND FRUIT, and especially GRAND HOTEL were beautifully done. Thomas believed, and I agree, that GRAND HOTEL was a classic album and much under appreciated and misunderstood by the critics. But Fisher did fine work producing A SALTY DOG. The rocky marriage and eventual divorce were unfortunate. The band deserved to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Steve Van Zandt of Springteen's E Street Band lobbied hard for it but it didn't happen in Mr. Brooker's lifetime and probably now. The music's the thing. And it was incredible.
Gary had a throat problem on this night, so set list was carefully selected and included every instrumental, including, as I recall, Backgammon. Wonderful days!
Beautiful and haunting. But why was this not included in Procol’s first album? Salad Days was but not this and Salad Days was credited to Reid-Brooker when Fisher was said to have written the soundtrack.
What a wonderful piece of music! I have been a Procol Harum fan from the very early days (I am now 73). One of the great British bands.

I've been so heartbroken. I feel the same way. Procol has been so important to me.
There was only one group whose EVERY concert was a masterpiece. Procol Harum. Always and forever the best!
Gary's best solo album a true legend in my eyes and i miss not being able to see him perform. RIP GARY.
Gary and Matthew...unforgetable 😇
Always loved Matthew Fisher... And Geoff W. Always playing great solo after great solo. Another great post. Thanks
And Mark B. was a great drummer too.
Once I hear the first note from the Hammond I cannot stop. Notice that Matthew connects all his notes. Legato everywhere.
Speechless! Perfect! Thank you.

Matthew also produced Robin’s first album Twice Removed From Yesteryear (1973) which received a great review in the New York Times.
oui, ce son PROCOL HARUM ou BROOKER et FISHER sont magistral !....
Beautiful atmospheric variation by Fisher, very reminiscent of Repent Walpurgis.
Matthew's masterpiece from the movie Separation by Jane Arden & Jack Bond from 1967

Thanks, H.
