    It's easy... 223 Wylde is a CHAMBERING not a round. It is a perfect blend between 5.56 and .223 so it shoots both perfectly.

    I love my 223 wylde 18" upper. I have 2 ranges, @ 600 900 yards in my vicinity. 5.56 77gr. closer is better, but you can still reach out not as accurate but still touch.

    Pro Tip: 223 Wylde is the ONLY chambering you should consider for a .223/5.56 rifle. I’ve shot 3Gun for almost 13 years and my 223 Wylde barrel has been THE most accurate at short and long distances using off-the-shelf ElCheapo 223/5.56 ammo.
    It’ll make Wolf Steel hit at 450. And that’s a task.
    Mine is a Nordic Components 16” stainless with mid-gas. Shoots as well today as it did on Day One.

      I thought you were not supposed to shoot steel case ammo in a stainless steel barrel?

    • @5stargunsandgear
      @5stargunsandgear  Год назад +1

      @@chrismanning1171 there is nothing wrong with with shooting steel case ammo in a SS barrel. The blend of metals that’s to make the jackets typically are not as soft and can increase wear leading to a shorter life. But in moderation should have zero issues

    • @5stargunsandgear
      @5stargunsandgear  Год назад

      Honestly I like stainless better one better no not necessarily. How a barrel is manufactured and the condition of the tooling when barrel is made as far a chamber and riding plays a much larger play in quality.

    I considered a Wylde, my selection came down to what was in stock at the time (I got 5.56). Shoots my 70 grain hand loads .5 moa. With appropriate Ammunition I don't think the 5.56 chamber will be measurably less accurate than the Wylde. However Wylde shoots off the shelf .223 far better than a 5.56 chamber for sure.

      I just waited until my vendor of choice had the 20" .223 Wylde I wanted back in stock and got lucky. I haven't taken it out yet, but I've heard they are nice. That being said, if it doesn't shoot straight, it's not because of the barrel 😆

    Wanted to go with Wylde barrels for the ones I built, but every time I've tried, I kept running into either "On backorder", or there was a killer deal on 1:7 5.56 ready-to-pin-on-and-shoot uppers, so went that route. One of these days, I'll get around to doing one. Just haven't managed it yet. Got a lower laying around that I could finish building out, and have an upper that just needs a barrel/gas tube/block/handguard and BCG. Now to get the spare cash together to get the barrel - put together a true "Frankengun" :)

    Great video! So according to you this works better with 223 and 556 better then a multi caliber? Would a barrel swap work just as well as a whole upper in this instance if you wanted to go to a 223 Wylde? Curious, what muzzle device are you using?

    • @5stargunsandgear
      @5stargunsandgear  Год назад

      Sure you could do a barrel swap. But if your referring to you lower marked multi caliber it has nothing to do with .223 or 5.56 being interchangeable that designation simply refers to you can change the upper to accommodate other calibers.

    • @micemr76

      @@5stargunsandgear that I get, more curious if the upper itself has anything to do with what your chambering. Example, if I have to swap my short barrels to a long because of the brace nonsense, couldn't I just purchase a 223 Wylde barrel? Never heard anyone break down the benefits of a 223 Wylde over a 556 before. Also curious about your muzzle device? Please and ty

    I just bought a complete upper in .223 Wylde, 24" barrel, 1:7 twist. Thought about trying it out with my existing carbine lower but after some consideration I'm gonna build a lower with a rifle buffer, tube & spring. I've been shooting 69gr bthp with the carbine and it was accurate enough. I can't wait to shoot this one!

    Someone has probably pointed this out already but .223 Wyled is strictly a rifle chamber designation meaning that it shoots .223 and 5.56x45 both more dependably and more accurately than a barrel chambered in just .223 or 5.56x45. 223 wylde is not a cartridge caliber.

    As I said in another one of your videos I went with 223 wylde because of a mistake I made when I bought a 223 AR pistol. I was new to ARs and 223/556 and was mixing the ammo in a firearm that was only for 223 and did not know why my pistol was breaking or malfunctioning. I decided that go with the best of both cartridges.

    There is ONLY ONE REASON for a Wylde Chamber, and only from a maker of match grade barrels, it’s CMP and NRA Service Rifle Competition at the 500/600/1000 yard line where 80+ grain hand loaded VLD bullets are important to winning. The 5.56 chamber has too much free bore thus not enough bullet ojive contact with cartridge case neck when bullet is seated to kiss lands and the .223 chamber has too little free bore for VLD bullets to be seated at or slightly into rifling lands when bullet is fully purchased by the case neck. That’s absolutely it. Buy an off the shelf barrel with Wylde Chamber and while it will shoot .223 or 5.56 don’t expect match grade results because typical barrels do not have the other qualities that inspire accuracy. BTW, another chamber that is boss for Service Rifle Competition is the Compass Lake Engineering chamber or CLE chamber for short. I have had my best results in high power rifle competition with that chamber, producing many wins at the 600 yard line. At any rate, this is my perspective as a US Distinguished Rifleman.
