Floor's sister Irene told that Floor at 8 years old was such a great fan of Henk Poort (the male singer) when he played the Dutch Phantom of the Opera that she ran around the house singing the song and had a photo of Henk Poort over her bed. Floor agreed to come to this 10 week long show only after whe heard that Henk would be participating. This was a great, great moment in her life. Henk surprised her with his gift of a gritty voice in this song, something he never had done before this show. And after that, the energy exploded in this song. They would not give each other an inch! (as you rightly say). I thought I'd give you a bit of background info.
Henk was THE Dutch Phantom, and I've heard one of ALW's favorites. She's loved this song and Henk as the Phantom for years so this program, and this performance she was so totally fan-girling to be singing with Henk. She asked him to do this for the duet episode of Beste Zangers and he agreed on one condition, that the next time that Nightwish came through the Netherlands that he got to perform this song with them on stage. There are so many excellent performances on this season of the program, her solo version of shallow...amazing, Floor and Tim did Shallow in this episode, Emma Hesters (lady in red dress on the couch) and Henk do a Duet of Vivo Por Lei, Emma did a song Floor wrote for her mother, that she admitted to never being able to get through without crying called Strong, amazing. You will find so many good performances in Beste Zangers 2019 that it's insane.
The back story of how much of a fan Floor is of Henk, and the chemistry between them, brings this to another level. Thank you for reacting to this. More please. ;-)
He's been her idol from way back when she saw him as the phantom on stage and he's learned distortion for her in a week... He's known as 'uncle henk' during this show to the other singers on the couches.
@@MadeleineHarveyVoice This show is not a competition, it's a celebration of great singing. Each singer spends a week in the spotlight where the other singers prepare a song for them (one of their own, or something else with a lot of meaning to them) Henk Poort sang the disturbed version of 'sound of silence' where he practiced singing distortion for Floor. As an opera (and musical) singer, he's never stepped out of his comfort zone like that, all for Floor. The whole show is amazing (Beste Zangers 2019)
@@MadeleineHarveyVoice She's gone from idolising to working with him, and now they are friends. She's done the same with another legendary Dutch singer, Anneke Van Giersbergen, former lead singer with Dutch Progressive rock band The, Gathering. Floor saw her sing at Graspop, a Dutch music festival, and knew that was what she wanted to do. Check out "The Gathering - Strange Machines live at Graspop Metal Meeting 1996 (remastered)".
@@MadeleineHarveyVoice you should hear Tarja and Marko same song End of an Era and Tarja's cover of Muse's Supremacy at Woodstock 2016, that is holding a damn note. I don't think Tarja and Floor are human lol.
Please do "How's the heart" , the acoustic version with Floor and Troy from Nightwish, It is soo amazingly intricate and beautifully expressive and I would love to see you react to it.
"Seduction's a mind game, and I'm quite a player." Floor Jansen 2010 (ReVamp, "Wild Card") I don't think the traditional Christine character gels well with Floor. Whether consciously or subconsciously, she maybe thought, "Let's make a statement here." Also, Henk Poort is someone she has looked up from teenage years, he played the phantom in the Dutch stage version. I think she felt safe that she would not be intimidating/upstaging him. That moment when he used "rock grit" was a nod to her metal singing, a bit of acknowledgement/respect. He became a guest in Floor's solo shows afterwards and has promised to sing this with Floor and Nightwish in Amsterdam.
If you do you need to know that Vilja Lied was the very first performance of the whole season. Its so fun to see the others just collectivly drop their jaws to the floor thinking "Damn this metal chic can SING!"
Well.. Queen to D6 for 8 seconds!! => Checkmate.. Try the "extreme" opposite from our valkyrie goddess and listen very closefully => "Yours Is An Empty Hope" (Live at Wembley ´15 / Live at Mexico ´15).. Greetz from Germany.
"Floor, can you ?.. "Hold my beer".... next *Vilja Lied* same show and *Yours is an Empty Hope*. Wembley Arena !. Floor has a little suprice for you !! Stay safe.
@@PPfilmemacher Though on stage with Nightwish she wears tall boots that push her to 1.95m or so. That's why, at the end of the Tampere show, you can clearly see her standing taller even than Marko and Tuomas.
This was also Tuomas (Nightwish) Holopainen's arrangement of ALW's piece - transposed for a better mix of Floor and Henk. Henk learned "the Marko variation" for Floor!
Nightwish did a wonderful live version with their previous singer Tarja of the phantom of the opera. It's a massive favourite of reactors and vocal coaches and it would be great if you could do that too. As for Floor you need to react to Everdream from Wacken 2013 - her voice and energy is so intense!!! It's unbelievable.
I would say that they did the "nigthwish" version with this peformance. Henke port sounda great when he adds a bit of grit. But i think i prefer the grittier marco.
@@andersstromqvist2211 Yes it was musically the nightwish version, but I think it's very different to how Tarja and Marko performed. Different enough to warrant a separate reaction I would think.
I think this was the most spot on perfect reaction for this duet I’ve seen! The challenge they bought, the stepping up to the plate and the building and final exhuming of brash passion of skill, beautiful!
Just FYI, for whatever reason the audio from the performance video seemed to be pitched down a bit. But indeed Floor was a whole-step lower than originally written by ALW. I'm glad you enjoyed the performance. It was incredible to see when the episode first aired. P.S. Henk Poort is one of Floor's favorite vocalists, so this was a dream come true for her to sing this song with him since he is the original Dutch 'Phantom'.
This was basically a rearrangement of the Nightwish arrangement of this song. And that version was just a whole note lower, so that's probably why they kept it like this. I've heard Floor hitting the E6, so I know she can do it. But if she couldn't, who cares? The most important thing is the way she sings it, not how high she sings it. 😊
@@mariodriessen9740 Maybe. But it seems to happen quite often when people try to upload something after up-converting it from low-res to 1080p or 4k or something of that nature. Its usually accompanied with what seems to be a slower tempo of the song, but it's actually the entire video having been slowed for whatever reason. It's REALLY noticeable in a couple versions of GLS from 2013 Wacken that have been up-converted by different third parties. That's one of the reasons a lot of people reccomend reactors carefully choose which version they react to.
@@Mountain_Mutt : True, I’m familiar with the Wacken videos you’re referring to (luckily there are also the right versions online as well), but the slower versions aren’t perfectly pitched a whole step below what they should be. If I remember correctly, it’s just a little flat. Not even half a step down. What’s more annoying to me, when it comes to that concert, is the speed. I could be wrong about the pitch. I’d have check it to be absolutely sure, but I don’t think there’s something wrong with this video.
@@mariodriessen9740 I very well could be wrong too. But it just felt off as I listened/watched. As long as I have a known good version to go to, I'm happy. And for those days when I'm moving slow too, pitched-down Floor is still Floor. 😉
Greetings from "The Netherlands" Land of Henk and Floor 😍😍😍 You might like "Vilja Lied" by Floor on the same show 🎶👍👀 Baritone Henk Poort (1956) began his music and vocal studies at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, his birth place. During his studies he had already impressed by winning the very first edition of the Cristina Deutekom Concours, a prestigous classical music competition in The Netherlands. After graduating in 1988 he began studying with the Italian singing coach Ettore Campogagliani and Dutch educator Margreet Honig Henk Poort has performed with several opera houses throughout Europe and has built up an extensive repertoire. His first engagement started at the Ulm and Krefeld Opera House (Germany) where for the first time he was offered the chance to perform leading roles in Verdí’s famous operas: Macbeth, Rigoletto, Nabucco and Germont (Traviata). But also Escamillo (‘Carmen’), André Thorel (Massenets ‘Thérèse’) and the title roles in ‘Eugen Onegin’ and ‘Guillaume Tell’. Henk Poort has also appeared as guest performer at The Dutch Opera, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, The Hessen State Theatre in Wiesbaden, de Nationale Reisopera (Dutch touring company), de VARA (Opera-matinee in het Amsterdamse Concertgebouw) and the Bern Opera. During this period he added ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’, Sharpless in ‘Madame Butterfly’, Luna in ‘Il Trovatore’, Renato in ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’ and Gérard in ‘Andrea Chenier’ to his repertoire. In the sections Oratorium and Vocal Symphonic Music Henk Poort’s name is often found in Brahms’ Requiem and Fauré’s Requiem, The Creation (Die Schöpfung) by Haydn and Carmina Burana by Orff. His role as Jean Valjean in ‘Les Miserables’ and his title role in ‘The Phantom op the Opera’ increased his popularity among a wider audience. After his performance as the Jewish milkman Tevye in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ he was approached on numerous occasions by directors such as Harold Prince and producers such as Cameron Mackintosh. Still the baritone preferred to combine his work as a musical actor with his love for the opera and to continue working with conductors such as Edo de Waart, Lawrence Renes, Yakov Kreitzberg, Gabriele Bellini, Miguel-Angel Gomez Martinez and Alexander Rahbari As an actor Henk Poort also has many credits to his name and is frequently asked to appear on TV shows and soaps (e.g. ‘Russen’). In 2006 the movie Nachtrit came out and Kicks is expected to be released in February 2007. Both films starring Henk Poort
The same evening that Henk Poort did this duet with Floor, he also did another duet with the girl in the red dress, Emma Heesters. The song was Vivo per lei and it was also amazing. I like to watch those two performances back to back, to see the range of Henk. I would like to see your reaction to that one. I don't know if it is vocal gymnastics, but it is definitely wonderful. You will be smiling.
I love that "Vivo per Lei" duet! Aside from how great both of them sing, there's just something super heartwarming about the performance. Beste Zangers had a lot of moments like that for me. What an absolute blessing that show is!
I actually rank Vivo Por Lei with Henk and Emma as better than this! By only a notch, and more for the incredible potential of Emma and how Henk brought her extreme warmth out.
I saw an interview with Floor's sister a while back, and I believe this is an accurate paraphrase of what she said. When Floor was a little 8-year-old girl, she had a poster in her room of Henk as the Phantom, and would run around the house singing the songs.
Although Floor is huge in Nightwish, she was unknown in the Netherlands before this show. If you do some more of this show, use the JennieZelf RUclips channel version, because they contain more (subtitled) context of the songs.
Greetings from Finland. Yes, the highest live note that Floor has so far reached is F6 while performing "Romanticide" at Ilosaarirock in Finland in 2013.
You've gotta check out Nightwish's performance of The Greatest Show On Earth at Tempere - Floor gives a master class in vocals in that one performance in a very different way from Ghost Love Score. Love your reactions - keep 'em coming!
great reaction; very entertaining and profound at the same time. now that you have seen Floor Jansen with Nightwish and the Phantom of the Opera you really need to hear her performing 'Shallow' from Lady Gaga; you will be surprised how she interpreted this song; many say way better than the original; you sure will love it from a vocal point of view. Stay Safe. 💖💥💥💥
As much as Floor owned that big performance, on the same show her solo of Shallow was at the opposite end of big which again demonstrates the control she has over her instrument. Plus those smaller performances (more than one - Villa Lied in German) brought members of the audience to tears. She's the best.
Great reaction and analysis video lovely lady! Floor is very intimidating. She is tall and very strong. She also is very confident in her singing ability. She refers to herself as a vocal technique nerd. In addition, Floor was enamored to be able to sing for and with Henk Poort. As a young girl she saw Henk play the part of the Phantom in the Dutch production. On the show she stated that Henk was one of her vocal idols growing up and was very happy to find out that Henk was part of this show. Henk actually added the distortion to his voice in honor of Floor. He had little to no experience with vocal distortion. BTW, Floor can sing higher, but D is a very comfortable and powerful key for her. Loved your video. Hope to see more from you. Peace.
Ohhh man I've been waiting on this. I just knew you'd give us a great, informative reaction. I also know you're being pestered for more Floor. Consider this another plea lol
I think Floor's height plays into that feeling that she's bordering on overpowering Henk, but Henk is a boss himself so he balances it out. Also, the pull out piano drawer is awesome. I'm sure other people will offer these suggestions, but I'd suggest Floor's rendition of "Shallow" from this same show. Yes, everyone has a version of Shallow, but when you consider what Floor can do, and then the artistic choices she makes with the song, it makes it very special. Also, if you want to other end of her spectrum, try Nightwish "Yours is an Empty Hope" Live from Wembley Arena.
I’d actually go for the newly released official version of YIAEH, Mexico 2015. The mix is a bit more balanced and you can hear Floor more clearly underneath Marko for the chorus.
You bring so much class to the community of RUclips reactors. In what you say (obviously knowing what you talk about and bringing a fresh perspective also) and how you present and look. This reaction just made my day and it is early morning for me :)
This is an excellent performance. Great singing and great acting from these experienced professionals. It's my favorite "Phantom" of all time. And great analysis from you. Thank you! ⛄👍
The entire show Beste Zangers is fun. Having each episode be about one of the singers, and the others performing songs that are connected to or related to that singer is just fun. It is more about exploring what music means to people and collaborating instead of competing to be the "best".
Not only the vocal skill and capacity is made clear instantly but the Astonishingly beautiful contrast between the 2 amplified it to another level. Floor who is the more light but still dramatic and emotional, she paints a outside the canvas with various colors like a real opera singer, which Henk poort probably taught her, but also mixes in a little of her own rougher and deeper style. Doing so with vibratos, controlled and beautiful little voice cracks, a little distortion, putting emphasis on certain words, switching and transitioning between a very round voice and a direct and powerful one, having a little hoarse and a extremely wide vocal range. All of which do not only make it more interesting, harder, uniek and emotional but also ads a lot of character. Meanwhile Henk lays a beautiful warm, touching, strong and very powerful base/background to the painting. Which he later roughs up a little by making it slightly more metal, which Floors probably taught him. You can truly hear he is a veteran master of his craft. His control and power is not just talent and you can hear all those decades of refinement. And as Henk does, he made some small adjustments to fit floors voice, just like he did with Emma. And the way floor goes from light and high to low and dramatic to really draw you in, and then pass you over to hank who really sets power behind the emotional ride. Meanwhile they are both really bringing these characters to life, radiation emotions and passion through facial expressions, body language and hand gestures. You can also see how proud they are at each other. Floor has been a fan of Henk for such a long time and it’s been a dream come true for her. And when he did the growl he just looked so honored. Just like when floor hit those high notes you can see he wonder in henks eyes. And then in a masterful climax Henk keeps yelling for her to sing -powerful and passionate, almost angry- as she proceeds to go higher and higher with more and more intensity, passion and emotion.
Very interesting and enjoyable reaction. And very detailed analysis too. I like that!! Keep going and do it with all the other appearances of Floor in the "Beste Zangers 2019" show. You will not get disappointed. Promised! :)
They did the arrangement from Nightwish, which is written with the end on a lower note than the original. Check the End of an Era version for the previous singer Tarja and Marko, the bass player. Henk Port was theo original Phantom in the Dutch arrangement .
Wonderful reaction. Floor is a commanding presence on stage. You might enjoy her doing O Mio Babbino Cara. Even her singing with Epica singing Santa Terra live. Keep up the greatness.
Thank you Madeleine for doing this review. I really enjoyed your commentary, especially your discussion of the interactions between the two singers. For recommendations, remember that as most of us are not professional singers what performances contain elements that you would really find interesting with complexity and finesse as another singer vs. performances that we really enjoy listening to as an audience may not always be the same thing. For me as a listener, I find the Wacken Nightwish performance of "Everdream" to be one of my favorites overall for Floor's power and range; Floor's performance of "Que Se Siente" in Beste Zangers as my most favorite for belting, and her solo contribution to the child welfare charity "WarChild" of "De Beelden Blijven" for softness and tone, along of course with the popular classic of "Shallow" for softness and tone, from Beste Zangers. Any of those would be great!
You would love all of Floor's songs on this show, different genres in different languages!!! Each was a emotional wrecking ball week in and week out. Well worth doing Vilja Lied (Floor sang in German as she didn't like the sound of it in Dutch), Lady GaGa's Shallow (English) or Que se Sente (Spanish) or any of the others. Great reaction and analysis BTW and this show really showed off all of Floor's abilities even to the shock of many of her fans, me included.
Love the reaction... i’ve watched quite a few of these reactions and it’s always interesting to see what little things different people pick up. It just shows that music is different things to different people. I would recommend floor’s cover of Shallow as a contrast she makes it so small yet still so powerful
Floor is so good she makes every duet perfect. She balances her power and tone to EXACTLY fit whomever she is singing with. Watch the duets on Beste Zingers 2019 and see what I mean. Phenomenal!
Wonderful deconstruction. One of the best I have seen. One does have to ask, how one could not be intimidated by a magnificent 183cm powerful symphonic metal singer?
Have you ever imagined singing this song with Michael Crawford? Ultimate wish fulfillment going on with this one, as she got to sing with "her" Phantom, the one from the Dutch production.. you can tell how uber-comfortable he is in those shoes, even when throwing in that distorted section, to fit the rock-ier version they were doing....
Had goosebumps in my arms exactly where you rubbed yours during the video. Like your shirt and thanks for this amazing video. Followed your channel from one of your videos about the lovely Irish lilt. Cheers!
Careful. Henk was the Phantom. One of Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorites. He was the European Phantom. She worshipped Henk from the time she was a little girl. This was a dream shot for her. I think she did well.
Yes all of her songs here on that show were great Shallow has 2 appearances by her solo and duet both are good plus her working with other male singers. Her Spanish song as well as her opera songs are just as good. I think 7 or so in total.
How's the heart acoustic is one of their most complex sounds vocally speaking, hopefully you will get to read this comment, it really deserves a great breakdown like you do on your videos. Greetings!
Tuomas seems to enjoy writing complex lyrical structures for Floor specifically as he feels she can handle them; and she immensely enjoys the challenges Tuomas throws her way.
Your positive energy and genuine love is much needed in this world. Your reactions are authentic and full of truth and wisdom, and your voice is masterful. This was splendid. Can you do react to love of the tired swans by dimas. It is his best song in my opinion with the least reaction videos. It needs your love, if you have time. Stay singing and sharing you are such a great role model for the next generation.
🤘🇫🇮 one of Nightwish army Finland. Thank You for this tiny tutorial! Pro's give some a small touch to this music and you analysized both - their stage performance AND their vocal abilities... Stay safe and Take care...
The one thing that seems to be different to me with her last note compared to other performances I heard, , unless I am mistaken, is that she does not seem to use vibrato.
One thing about this particular performance that draws this together. Everyone already mentioned how Henk was Floor's idol growing up and how she fangirled over him on the entire season of this show, the promise to sing this with Nightwish, etc., an how Henk played the Phantom in the Dutch production of the musical... But one thing that people don't realize is that Nightwish actually covered this song on their studio album release "Century Child", back in 2002. That is the actual arrangement of the song being used here, not the arrangement used in the musical. So you have the current singer of Nightwish, singing with *THE PHANTOM*, using the Nightwish arrangement of the song. Serendipitous. And about the arrangement: The Nightwish arrangement of the song is actually tuned one whole step down from the musical. So while on the sheet music, Christine's note is still an E6, because they tuned down one whole step, you get her singing a D6. Also to note, Henk is operatically trained, as you can tell. He's performed hundreds of operas and arias, as his mother was also an opera singer. However, this is the second time EVER that he used distortion in his voice. The first time was when he sang Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence, for Floor, in the very same season that this show was taped. Nightwish also played this live with their original singer, Tarja Turunen, back in 2004, at the End of an Era show. their arrangement was used there as well, which is similar to the arrangement used here.
On a serious note this was a HUGE deal for Floor because Henk played the Phantom of the Opera when she was a child so she's always looked up to him and dreamed of singing this with him all the way back to her days before being a teenager. Throughout this season of Beste Zengers you could tell Henk was like a proud papa watching her not only make the other singers most personal songs her own but to do it in such a way that her body language and story telling added on top of that voice could make anyone on that show cry. Even the fella that had a album that says lions don't cry broke when she sang one of his songs. They've actually performed together a few times since that show. Another cool thing to ponder while you're reading this. Back during the show Henk said he would sing Phantom of the Opera with her if she allowed him to join her on stage with Nightwish next time they are touring. I don't know about yall but just thinking about the Nightwish band making that song even more amazing and heavy on the instruments and then having Floor and Henk go nuts on it like they did on the show🤯🤯
For me this performance isn't about Floor, its Henk that suprised me the most. With Floor i knew she could do this. It was sung at her terms with a metal rock tone in it, she used to sing that at Nightwish. But i knew that Henk Poort is a musical singer even a bit opera singer a bit. And you know that grunching your voice like that is normally a no go for a opera singer or a musical singer. Its unknown territory, very risky, almost impossible. So the second i hear his changing voice, i was stumbled or stunned on my chair because i never witnessed this before. ( sorry English is not my native language )
I do like Floor's Christine. I'm most familiar with the book, and Christine is no wilting innocent. She is an ambitious woman willing to make a deal with the devil to get ahead of her rivals. She may not know what all she signed up for, but at the end of the day, she's not the good guy. I like that about this rendition. They are using each other, challenging each other for control, working together for their own reasons.
I would be willing to bet that maybe 1% of the people who have listened to the musical, or this performance, have actually read the book. Good on ya'. I haven't read it, either (though I've been through the Opera Garnier...it would suit Floor).
Time for you to react the live song in Tampere Finland called THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH by the band. It's their longest song ever written (21 minutes)
Henk did the distortion just for Floor. This is the second song he did the distortion. The other song was Sound of Silence by Disturbed. Floor says she's a vocal technique nerd and used to be a vocal coach. Our 6ft Angel.
A perfect next Nightwish stop would be „Yours an empty hope“ from Wembley: This will show you the wild, „angry“, harsh side of Floor. And have close look and listen at Floor and Marco (the singing bass player)!
Floor sang an amazing O Mio Babbino Caro just after she joined Nightwish, and in Beste Zangers she did Ruben's song About love I don't know a thing. Highly recommended!
Floor has done very little "pure" opera but she has performed O Mio Babbino Caro, from Gianni Schicchi, on Dutch TV and with After Forever. If you want to check out her classical side without the "rock sauce" it is very good. Also Vilja Lied (which she sank for Henk on this show), How's The Heart (Planet Rock acoustic version), and Shoemaker (from the new album Human:Nature) are highly recommended. Also I think you will like Henk & Emma Heesters performing Vivo Per Lei also from Beste Zangers.
Love your analysis as always! I also think their dynamic worked really well together, the build up toward the end was crazy. I also like that you get into the technical/ physical aspects of the performance, it gives a whole new perspective to the experience. I highly recommend the song Gone by Scardust- they have an amazingly talented singer called Noa Gruman, AND they have a new album coming out in 3 days! So lots of good surprises to expect from there :)
Another great nightwish song is When Marco and Floor performed romanticide right near the end they hits some high notes the highest I've heard Floor hit worth a look.
Hello Madeleine! I hope you see and read that one day! At first i would say i like your 2 reactions from "Ghost Love Score" and "The Phantom of the opera" with Floor Jansen from Nightwish very very much! I love Floor so much, specially as singer but also as person, she's so a nice person, she works for kids i think, she loves her horses, she's a singin teacher (or she was), she loves singing, she's wonderful as Person and a beautiful woman to and many other things, and she's a big lady to, yes, she's a ~1,83m tall beautiful lady, but on stage with some of her high shoes she's nearly 2m tall! She lookes like an Northern Valkyrien Godess! I am an old Nightwish fan, i hear them since 1997, i see them 3 times live, but only with her first singer Tarja Turunen. (She was a great singer with an more operetic stile, and 2 songs i think you should see/hear with Taja, if you want, are the songs "Sleeping sun", the video wher she stands in a battlefield with flag and with knights who fighted, i hope you found them, if not the officially version, and "Beaty OF the Beast" the live Version from 2002) Tarja leafed the band, i think in 2005. The 2nd singer from Nightwish, Anette Olzon, i don't liked her much, not her singin for Nightwish. She's a good singer maybe, and i wish her only the best, but she wasn't good enough for singing for Nightwish like Tarja or Floor, her range, abilitys, skills and much more wasn't good enough. But how i sayd, i wish her only the best, and she sings good in her new band. (3 songs with Annette you could looked, because this 3 was written for her, are "Amaranth", "Bye Bye Beautuful" and Stotytime, but that are only offucial studio music videos, but for me her best) But when i heard Floor Jansen first time singing for Nightwish, i start crying, got so much goosebumps, but i knowed the song for years, but it was for my if i would hear them for the first time! I was speechless! I hear her singing first "Ghost love score" She's sooo good, whatever she sing If you would like see singing her in Spanish look "Que se siente" from the same show Beste Zangers. Every song she sang there is great! Here some more Nightwish songs i think you would like them. Storytime (Wacken 2013), The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembly 2015), Weak Fantasy, Slleing sun, My Walden (this three ftom Tampere 2015), Ever Dream (Wacken 2013), I want my tears back(Buenos Aires 2019), Dark chest of wonders (at Wembly or Wacken, i'm not sure) and finally after all that you are ready for The greatest show on earth! I hope i see one day this reactions from you about this songs or some of them. The Poet and the Pendulum is the most emotional song for Thoumas, the keyborder and mastermind from the band, he wrote about 95% of all songs, read about them bevore you look them (from wembly 2015) and also read about The greatest show on earth bevore you look, it's about evolution and look it from Tampere 2015, still to the end! For me Floor is the best female singer in the world, because she's so skilled, her abilitys, her range and much more are great and she can sing everything. And Nigjtwish spcially with her is the best band for me. Only the best wishes from me to you from Vienna/Austria! Stay safe! (I'm sorry, it's a little bit long and i'm also sorry if i wrote some mistakes, my english isn't the best, shame on me!)
It’s great to see you reacting again Madeleine! Your knowledge brings a tremendous amount of gravitas to your vocal analysis. Your enthusiasm and the fact that you really look like you’re having fun is a solid bonus. Also nice to see you looking at the likes of Nightwish and Jinjer. If you feel like continuing in the female fronted metal scene, check out Unleash the Archers, a Canadian band with a tremendous lead singer. Most people get started with “Awakening” which is an excellent showcase for the musicality of the band, but if you want an idea of what Britney can do, check out “Tonight we Ride”. Either way you really can’t go wrong (and no Jinjer like jump scares!).
Floor is phenomenal. Especially when its just her voice along. Ugh. ❤ Good reaction coach! My suggestion would be babymetal - akatsuki. Pls dont be mislead by the name. The singer at that time was 16 years old. Thank you! ! !
That's a very good point about that D6. I did wonder why she chose to go that way, but you're right; she does absolutely own it. From that same show, Floor performs Vilja Lied so that might be a good choice! Otherwise if you're still in the mood for more Phantom, the live recording of Nightwish performing is with different vocalists (pre-Floor) and the arrangement is a bit different too.
Floor's sister Irene told that Floor at 8 years old was such a great fan of Henk Poort (the male singer) when he played the Dutch Phantom of the Opera that she ran around the house singing the song and had a photo of Henk Poort over her bed.
It also is Tuomas's arrangement.
@@bernhardrohrer9593 more like Marcel Fisser band's rearrangement of Nightwish arrangement
That’s amazing!
@@MadeleineHarveyVoice Hi Madeleine can you send me sole more new vocal warm ups and music too so I can learn more with you
Please do "How's the heart" , the acoustic version with Floor and Troy from Nightwish, It is soo amazingly intricate and beautifully expressive and I would love to see you react to it.
Yes! I can only agree.
I agree too!!
Yes please
Oh yes please. It is amazing
Yes!!!
"Seduction's a mind game, and I'm quite a player." Floor Jansen 2010 (ReVamp, "Wild Card")
I don't think the traditional Christine character gels well with Floor.
Interesting reaction!
Try Floor's version of "Vilja Lied" from the same show next time!
If you do you need to know that Vilja Lied was the very first performance of the whole season. Its so fun to see the others just collectivly drop their jaws to the floor thinking "Damn this metal chic can SING!"
@@MatsGarage and then you're the professional singer, next in line, to do your song..... I pitty them ......

Floor has so much stage presence! Of course it helps that she’s literally about 6’1.
i hate to be that guy, but she's 6'
1,83 m
@@PPfilmemacher and Emppu is 1m60 !
@@PPfilmemacher Though on stage with Nightwish she wears tall boots that push her to 1.95m or so.
That's why, at the end of the Tampere show, you can clearly see her standing taller even than Marko and Tuomas.
@@Stan_S_Stanman im that guy too 🤣🤣💪🏻👍🏻
This was also Tuomas (Nightwish) Holopainen's arrangement of ALW's piece - transposed for a better mix of Floor and Henk. Henk learned "the Marko variation" for Floor!
Look at Ever Dream by Nightwish from Wacken! The power she has!
Look at Wacken 2013 in general.
I am NW fan for 15 years and still every time Floor opens her mouth I am amazed
For the opposite Floor, soft, breathy, sublime, try her solo cover of Shallow from the same show. It'll give you an entirely new take on the song. :)
I was wondering what was off in my earphones then I read your comment... indeed the audio seems a note lower!🤔
Give "About Love I Don't Know A Thing" from this same show. Oh, and Shallow as well

Greetings from "The Netherlands" Land of Henk and Floor 😍😍😍 You might like "Vilja Lied" by Floor on the same show 🎶👍👀
Baritone Henk Poort (1956) began his music and vocal studies at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, his birth place.
During his studies he had already impressed by winning the very first edition of the Cristina Deutekom Concours, a prestigous classical music competition in The Netherlands.
After graduating in 1988 he began studying with the Italian singing coach Ettore Campogagliani and Dutch educator Margreet Honig
Henk Poort has performed with several opera houses throughout Europe and has built up an extensive repertoire.
Still the baritone preferred to combine his work as a musical actor with his love for the opera and to continue working with conductors such as Edo de Waart, Lawrence Renes, Yakov Kreitzberg, Gabriele Bellini, Miguel-Angel Gomez Martinez and Alexander Rahbari
As an actor Henk Poort also has many credits to his name and is frequently asked to appear on TV shows and soaps (e.g.
Fun reaction! Thank you, Madeleine. 🤘
For more Nightwish, Ghost River (Wacken 2013); for more Floor @ Beste Zangers, Vilja Lied (sung for Henk Poort.)
Although Floor is huge in Nightwish, she was unknown in the Netherlands before this show. If you do some more of this show, use the JennieZelf RUclips channel version, because they contain more (subtitled) context of the songs.
oh yeah the vilja lied is one of the episodes i LOVE and way to few people give it the credit it deserved over the phantom episode
I tried to click this so fast I missed it 3 times. It was like Homer trying to dial the phone number to QVC.
D'oh!
Henk IS the Phantom - As in mister's Andrew Loyd vision - he is the perfect voice - And also about 1993 - Hank sings it for the national opera.
You might like Floor Jansen doing Lady Gaga's "Shallow" in the same show. And/or Floor Jansen with Epica doing "Sancta Terra" :)
"My heart is a-fluttering"...
That, my friend, is what we call a Floorgasm!
TY great reaction , now one you will love is Storytime live at Wacken 2013 (Operatic part in the middle)
great reaction; very entertaining and profound at the same time. now that you have seen Floor Jansen with Nightwish and the Phantom of the Opera you really need to hear her performing 'Shallow' from Lady Gaga; you will be surprised how she interpreted this song; many say way better than the original; you sure will love it from a vocal point of view. Stay Safe. 💖💥💥💥
Recommendations? Well that would be Floor singing her version of the Lady Gaga song 'Shallow' - also on the Beste Zangers show. So lovely!
Floor is a world star.
Thank you for your beautiful response.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
Gave it a like before the video started.

Just to be done with that already, lol.
Unless you got ads, that’s practically impossible...
The band is playing the Nightwish arrangement for Phantom of the Opera
What a really awesome take on that piece. You have such a way with words, thank you Madeline.
As far as many experts are concerned, Floor Jansen is the gold standard for vocal technique.
Very interesting and enjoyable reaction. And very detailed analysis too. I like that!!
Keep going and do it with all the other appearances of Floor in the "Beste Zangers 2019" show. You will not get disappointed. Promised! :)
Henk poort actually played the phantom for years in the Netherlands. And I beleave in Germany as well
They did the arrangement from Nightwish, which is written with the end on a lower note than the original. Check the End of an Era version for the previous singer Tarja and Marko, the bass player.
Henk Port was theo original Phantom in the Dutch arrangement .
She hits a sustained E at the end of Greatest Show on Earth (20 min song) at the end of a concert in Tempere.
That's a mixed belt E5, not E6 in head voice (which she can do but not there)
So nice to hear your analysis and see your reaction! Both Floor Jansen & Henk Poort nailed it.
While Henk was long my favourite Phantom, these days my favourite Phantom is Marko Hietala.
This was literally on her bucket list to sing this with Henke.i think both of them enjoyed that moment.
Floor is so good she makes every duet perfect. She balances her power and tone to EXACTLY fit whomever she is singing with. Watch the duets on Beste Zingers 2019 and see what I mean. Phenomenal!
I so love your insight and description of this performance it is spot on and I can see the intensity even more....Thank You ❤
Wonderful deconstruction.
If you want to see more of him. Watch him perform "the sound of silence" in the same show
Had goosebumps in my arms exactly where you rubbed yours during the video. Like your shirt and thanks for this amazing video. Followed your channel from one of your videos about the lovely Irish lilt. Cheers!
I believe this being the Nightwish version, they do drop D tuning, thus the end note.
I love this TV show! Floor has said how she always has had a crush on Henk so this was so good
Loved your reaction video ❤
It needs your love, if you have time. thank you for great, informative, observant and passionate reaction. greetings from germany.
Cannot get enough of these reviews. Chills all the time!! If it ain’t Dutch it ain’t much!! Tnx. 🇳🇱👍🏻
The one thing that seems to be different to me with her last note compared to other performances I heard, , unless I am mistaken, is that she does not seem to use vibrato.
Been waiting for this and you sure lived up to expectations! More Nightwish please!
Nightwish also played this live with their original singer, Tarja Turunen, back in 2004, at the End of an Era show. their arrangement was used there as well, which is similar to the arrangement used here.
henk poort was her idol and rollmodel when she was young
sleeping sun! one of the most beautiful songs from Nightwish and of course with Floor

Henk is a trained opera singer who also did musicals...
I recommend Within Temptation - The Promise (Black Symphony concert).
Dutch symphonic metal with orchestra, choir and Sharon den Adels amazing voice.
You are THE BEST.... I am sure you know that but I felt the need to tell you personally. No other coach exist for me.... ❤️❤️❤️
Never listened to Henk Poort before his voice has some damn gravitas!
Henk did the distortion just for Floor. This is the second song he did the distortion. The other song was Sound of Silence by Disturbed. Floor says she's a vocal technique nerd and used to be a vocal coach. Our 6ft Angel.
You ARE the best at what you do Madeline 🏆OMG keep up the good work so so informative & entertaining 🌟
A perfect next Nightwish stop would be „Yours an empty hope“ from Wembley: This will show you the wild, „angry“, harsh side of Floor.
And have close look and listen at Floor and Marco (the singing bass player)!
What an amazing reaction video 🤩
Great reaction! Just gotta say, you slide out piano 🎹... Sooo darn cool! 👍😎👍😎👍
(3 songs with Annette you could looked, because this 3 was written for her, are "Amaranth", "Bye Bye Beautuful" and
Stotytime, but that are only offucial studio music videos, but for me her best) But when i heard Floor Jansen first time singing for Nightwish, i start crying, got so much goosebumps, but i knowed the song for years, but it was for my if i would hear them for the first time!
Anything Floor sung on "Beste Zangers" is worth reacting to :D
Thank you! ! !
Ahhhh...the queen!!! You should do some more of Floor. There are soooo many dimensions to her.
