Wow. I only played Skyrim and barely knew most of this stuff. Interesting lore, although Skyrim isn't a good RPG because of the downgraded for perks and it's fetchquests are just boring and repetitive.
@@alexmanuel7391 You can think that if you like but according to Bethesda it is, just like every other ES game (including legends and blades). Don't be surprised if there are books referencing ESO events in future games.
Joe baggins there was one I think in Morrowind don't quote me on that but I'm pretty sure in the Game of the Year Edition the full expansion there was one
i honestly think that todd is just a puppet of zenimax at this point, saying things that they want him to say, blatantly lying even after the history of jokes made at his expense because of it. maybe. i dont know. he just seems like the type of guy to focus on what matters to him (TES 6) and do whatever it takes for it to be a reality (doing what zenimax wants, even if it means lying).
The lore seems awesome- isn't this the first time Kirkbride was involved in the writing? All this game needs is a modern source port, and then it would be just awesome.
@@derekyohan1444 Ok and? Morrowind and Id's 3D Doom are older that me yet I still play them. a Remake or remaster would do a lot of good for them. We are tired of seeing Skyrim being resold on different next gen consoles. It'd be better to relive the past games to catch up on lore and other things.
They need to remake this game. After all, Cyrus(hoonding) is considered one of the most powerful mortals. Also i think we need more es adventure games that fill the spaces between games, such as one on the great war where you play as a blade or something.
I wish they still used this voice actor for some of the redguards in skyrim. His voice brings back so many memories and it sounds so cool. Each race needed a bit more voice actors
When I began playing elder scrolls I chose to be a red guard and named him Cyrus. I like to pretend my characters in each game are reincarnated versions of each other. So imagine my absolute surprise when I found out that there is literally an elder scrolls game, with the same race and name that I always play as
When you think about it, Redguards have been playable in more TES games than any other. With the exception of the Oblivion mobile game, every Elder Scrolls game has you either play as a Redguard (like this one) or at least gives you the option.
My realm may be pleasant to look at, but don't ever mistake pleasant for "safe", it is just as dangerous to unsuspecting mortals as any realm in Oblivion.
@@KitsuneYojimbo It has a LOT to do by yourself atleast, especially since I had got a bundle with the expansions, the Sea Sloads are in the summerset expansion.
@@tarponpet Fair. I think it just comes down to me not really liking MMOs. That and I barely tried to learn the mechanics of the game. Maybe I should go back and give the game another fair shake.
@@tank3143 Would be interesting to see the two provinces with modern graphics. It could be like daggerfall 2 XD. Though I kinda wish they would focus more on one province so that we can get as much detail on that one as possible. But with newer technology now I hope they could pull it off.
The Elder Scrolls series literally has all of what my fantasy-obsessed self needs. Literally from just this video I actually got invested in the Redguard's story.
As that bit flew by I just saw forward mapped to S and thought "hang on a second..." Loving the content by the way, I don't think I've seen anyone else cover Redguard (probably for the best)
Oof, been watching a playthrough of it on and off tor over a year and the dialogue/acting is all that keeps me invested and even that is held back by the audio quality
They always seem to hesitate about the redguards. Are they arabics ? Moorish ? West-African ? Caribbean ? Some weird fantasy-Madagascar mix ? It change with every game.
Am I the only person who thinks if the game had been made better with a higher budget and later on with better tech, it would actually be amazing? Like a pirates of the Caribbean/Indiana Jones style adventure into the sands of hammerfell sounds like a dream game
8:59 The correct question is: "which door would the other say is correct?" And both guards would point at the same door - the incorrect one - so you choose the other door.
Alright guys he is overly sarcastic I played the game and NO it’s not the best but it’s old and REALLY REALLY fun and has great lore you should play it trust me
Keep in mind that this game is twenty years old - it came out two years before Baldur's Gate 2! At that time, providing a 3D Open World Adventure with Story, Quests and Dungeons was something different back then. Many of the clumsy gameplay and the camera angles was quite common back in the day for these games, Gothic I is one of the best RPGs ever released and had an even worse fighting system. Generally, I don't find the fighting system in Redguard so bad, it really imitates epee fencing (saying that as someone who fences himself). Slow fights, waiting for a gap - this is actually more realistic than many modern games. It was clearly designed for humans vs humans, that's why the fights against the creatures are a bit sloppy sometimes because it isn't the main focus of the game. "How am I supposed to know?" - come on dude, this is an old game that actually demanded something from the player. I played this as a kid and it took me days to figure out to solve the next riddle, this was from a time where you don't have a questmarker pointing you at the next direction, where you don't have an extensive journal and where the game doesn't hold your hand. I can't believe you complained about the N'Gasta quest - that was amazing! Imagine you are being tasked with your generic fetch and bring quest to go to some wizard, and you actually have to pay a skeleton ferryman who brings you to the isle of the dead to talk to a necromancer worm! Pretty cool that the quest giver also tells you that you have nothing to worry about, probably knowing very well he's sending you into death as he has probably done with your predecessors. That was a really nice touch. I quite liked the story. Sure, it's a bit cliche, but the cutscenes are great, and the dialog in those is as well. The music is cool. When I was a kid, that resurrection of the prince where the soul goes into the sword gave me goosebumps. The whole game has a very atmospheric vibe to it, which was only topped by Morrowind later, which went into a similar very atmospheric direction. Redguard deserves to have a remake. Also, I don't know if you know this, but the originally packaging came with a Tamriel travel guide, including a graphic novel about Cyrus' past. Many of the articles in this guide literally describe stuff that you can actually see in Sykrim 15 years later, but for some weird reason Howard decided to scrap exotic jungle Cyrodiil and made it a generic middle ages world, because he wanted to ride the LotR hype train. It's definitely not the worst Elder Scrolls game - that title goes to Oblivion.
XasthurWithin with how fast technology is advancing someone like me who's 26. Is already feeling old when people born in in late 90s or early 2000s scoff at these games Not reliezing open world RPG and action adventure was a new genre that pushed the technology for the time. These games were magical in the 90s
I have not unfortunately, I always found it weird though that they made mobile tes games just for that phone. Especially since they haven't made any since even though mobile are actually a thing now.
well they tried making a mobile adaptation of Oblivion for all phones but it didn't work out apparently because they cancelled development halfway through
yeah Elder Scrolls Travels was a series for Nokia N-Gage Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion was there attempt to keep the series going after the fall of the N-Gage
Fun fact about Cyrus, apparently there was a time he met with Vivec and engaged in a duel with him. Cyrus technically came out the victor when he (maybe?) bluffed about knowing the Pankratosword, a sword technique so powerful that it can destroy entire landmasses and ostensibly caused the destruction of Yokuda. Either playing along with the bluff or not willing to risk it, Vivec backed down.
I was actually playing Legends while listening to this and when you said "pretend pieces of cardboard", I thought you were referring to Arena or Daggerfall and their dated graphics
There should be an option to ask them which door they are supposed to be guarding. The truth-teller would say it's the door behind him, while the liar would say it's the door behind the truth-teller. Just like in Yu-Gi-Oh!, with the Paradox Brothers.
I wish they made more pirate themed Elder Scrolls Game. Imagine the plots, monsters and gameplay elements they can create with such a concept... "Come and look upon the Heart, the Akhulkhan... And bring some rum, matey."
I am new here, but boy, you gotta go easy on the jokes, that snickers one was very cringey, pls dont take this to the bad side tho, its supposed to be constructive ok ? But nice video overall, like you i am a fan of The Elders Scrolls aswell, maybe you can do more content on the series ?
I love how the protagonist has the same voice of all the redguards in Morrowind and Oblivion.
NotSoSeriousNick Yeah, down with the series since the beginnings
He's in ESO too
He sounds like the Avatar in Ultima IX too.
Back in my day piracy was honest work
I'm pretty sure he also voices some Khajitt males as well
But to be fair, they brought back many of the same voice actors for all the races.
Tune in next week for "Five Things Redguard did better than Skyrim"

or a proper sequel. Two more entries in Elder Scrolls Adventures were planned but they were scrapped.

Just made a comment about this i havent seen, this phrase is said by the character Peter in 1978's Dawn of the Dead
Cyrus and his sister are the King and Queen together?
The implications are... unpleasant.
He didn't marry his sister, Cyrus went off to travel Tamriel while Iszara stayed behind in Hammerfell. Neither are the rulers.
I know, I'm making a joke.
Just clarifying. The uploader also said they are the king and queen, not sure where he got that from.

Elder scrolls online isnt canon
Wow. I only played Skyrim and barely knew most of this stuff. Interesting lore, although Skyrim isn't a good RPG because of the downgraded for perks and it's fetchquests are just boring and repetitive.
@@alexmanuel7391 Not only is It canon, it's the best game in regards to lore since morrowind.
@@lucasbrant9856 nope TESO has never been canon and never will be
@@alexmanuel7391 You can think that if you like but according to Bethesda it is, just like every other ES game (including legends and blades). Don't be surprised if there are books referencing ESO events in future games.
I kinda want Bethesda to have some side group make more elder scrolls spin off games
I definitely agree with you on that. It would be interesting to see another game like this one but done with modern mechanics that aren't terrible.
Well as long as they dont feel the need to make a survival or battle royal game .
Jin kisaragi I agree but if they did it could potentially be good. *Potentially*
Wait until they make a racing game with Nazeem as the main character
I would buy tho
I would totally play an action game concerning the fall of the Imperial colonies in Akavir.
It's pretty cool to see the Sload though

i honestly think that todd is just a puppet of zenimax at this point, saying things that they want him to say, blatantly lying even after the history of jokes made at his expense because of it.
maybe. i dont know. he just seems like the type of guy to focus on what matters to him (TES 6) and do whatever it takes for it to be a reality (doing what zenimax wants, even if it means lying).
Clavicus vile sounded like Him, from the power puff girls! Lol

Coincidentally, Cyrus is the name of my first and only Skyrim character. And i named him that without even knowing this game existed. Huh.
Coincidentally, Cyrus is also the name of Blade who welcomes you to Cloud Ruler Temple in Oblivion.
for a 1998 game, the voice acting is spot on.
They need to remake this game. After all, Cyrus(hoonding) is considered one of the most powerful mortals. Also i think we need more es adventure games that fill the spaces between games, such as one on the great war where you play as a blade or something.
More adventure games would be awesome quite frankly.

I wish they still used this voice actor for some of the redguards in skyrim. His voice brings back so many memories and it sounds so cool. Each race needed a bit more voice actors
Have you played oblivion on a flip phone
Haha I have now and by god it was bad.
I've always found it fascinating how some of the voice actors were with the series for so long
My realm may be pleasant to look at, but don't ever mistake pleasant for "safe", it is just as dangerous to unsuspecting mortals as any realm in Oblivion.
Hey The Cantina Ive binge watched all your oblivion videos and I love them keep up the good work!
*Threatened by a knife under his throat* "Do it then, because that'll be the easiest part"
I think it says a lot about the game.
This game has the series only Sload in it!
I find it a little funny.... Redguard is the only game where you meet a Sload, Morrowind, the only game where you meet a Dwemer.
@@KitsuneYojimbo Oh yeah... also techincally you can meet some Sload in elder scrolls online too, but only a subspecies of them.

I find it curious how you specifically leave Todd out of Morrowind leads, despite test room literally called ToddTest as a tribute to him personally.
Thank you Mr. Howard, very cool.
Cyrus huh. Like that blade guy in Oblivion?
No like that douche the pirate bitch is singing about.
Well Cyrus is a hero so it is probably common to see redgaured that
Ahh Todd Howard, you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain
Now, what about Battlespire?)
Haha that is the question isn't it.
The Cantina, for sure. That would be great to see you play this game. Who knows, maybe it's even worse than Redguard :DDD
i agree with Vee R plz do a video of u doing battlespire

I only saw your channel by mistake and I'm glad it happened
Wait so Cyrus can understand what the dragon’s saying? That means he’s either Dragonborn, or that Todd Howard retconned the Dragon lore.
Or the dragon just learned Cyrodilic, seeing as he serves the Cyrodilic Empire.
I loved Redguard. I saw someone else played it and it was great.
9:42 “You are- You are crafty, but you are no match!” that’s the funniest hurt sound since Knuckles’ “Oh no!”

Most disappointing Bethesda game???... No man... most disappointing Bethesda game is FALLOUT 76... Redguard has higher Metacritic by far (7.8)

This video was released months before Fallout 76 was.
Honestly for me fallout 4 was the most disappointing. 76 at least let me play with my friends wears 4 was just a colossal joke on the series.
I just watched your newest video and enjoyed it so much I came back to watch this one again . Thank you so much for making these videos
Oof, been watching a playthrough of it on and off tor over a year and the dialogue/acting is all that keeps me invested and even that is held back by the audio quality

I like the idea of side games where you are a pre set character on an adventure it would be cool to be an argonian in black marsh
I had a feeling Redguards were originally supposed to be based off of Arabic/Indian clothes and weapons.
They always seem to hesitate about the redguards. Are they arabics ? Moorish ? West-African ? Caribbean ? Some weird fantasy-Madagascar mix ? It change with every game.
This game needs a remaster

Alright guys he is overly sarcastic I played the game and NO it’s not the best but it’s old and REALLY REALLY fun and has great lore you should play it trust me
Dude this game is old, but I love it.
Literally found your channel two hours ago and watched 5 videos lol your funny as an dude keep up the good work
Keep in mind that this game is twenty years old - it came out two years before Baldur's Gate 2!
Thanks buddy, really nice of you
XasthurWithin with how fast technology is advancing someone like me who's 26. Is already feeling old when people born in in late 90s or early 2000s scoff at these games
Not reliezing open world RPG and action adventure was a new genre that pushed the technology for the time. These games were magical in the 90s
Why is oblivion the worst?
now i know why we never heard of this game before
have you played the Nokia N-Gage series of Elder scrolls games? cuz those are hard to come by
I have not unfortunately, I always found it weird though that they made mobile tes games just for that phone. Especially since they haven't made any since even though mobile are actually a thing now.
well they tried making a mobile adaptation of Oblivion for all phones but it didn't work out apparently because they cancelled development halfway through
I thought that was just meant for PSP? It eas called something like The Elder Scrolls Travels or something?
yeah Elder Scrolls Travels was a series for Nokia N-Gage Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion was there attempt to keep the series going after the fall of the N-Gage
Ah right I see! I remember being super bummed cos I was really looking forward to playing something like Oblivion on the fly. Thanks for the info!
8:58 You have to choose "Which door would the other say is correct?", since they both answer with the wrong door.
There should be an option to ask them which door they are supposed to be guarding. The truth-teller would say it's the door behind him, while the liar would say it's the door behind the truth-teller. Just like in Yu-Gi-Oh!, with the Paradox Brothers.
