Since the musket kinda sucks, I bet you were wondering: "Why use it if it's so slow?" Well because people are smart, musketeers usually stood in lines of equal in length. So when the first line fires, the second one prepares, then the first line starts reloading, the second line fires, then the second reloads and the third line fires and so on until the first line is ready to shoot and it repeats.
What else were they gonna do, close to point blank and use blunderbusses?

I believe the weapons, nuclear explosions and cool FTL engines are actually downloadable mods for in game, not stock stuff.
I'm not sure about the planets exploding though, never seen that.
Man Martin's videos are always something to enjoy!
Edit : I went and looked at Martincitopants Gods where he puts his live streams and I counted at least 6 videos with stuff from this episode each roughly averaging 3 hours long.
So that's what 6 times 3 = 18 hours on average of just in game footage and testing not including editing time. No wonder why it took so long, he really went for it with this one.
not only that, he mentioned in the end of episode 1 that he was opening up to submissions for weapons and stuff (which i believe most of what we see are those submissions. so he was planning this all the way back then.
If Kelsey likes to know more about nuklear accidents i can recomend America's Missing Nukes by Laserpig it´s verry entertaining and has about the same humor as the videos from Martincitopants.

i always found it amusing that as soon as we finalized the order for the 11inch atomic annies we managed to make warheads small enough to fit in our existing 8 inch and 155 howitzers

Matt Lowne have a simular series called "KSP movie". Unfortunetly he himself dosent talk in it and instead the Kerbals talk in there own language and he adds translated text on the screen instead. It´s good storytelling but with no talking and only reading i dont think it would work were well for reaction content.
