    Good one Alex, good choice with the Simms jacket. One of my best buys was a Simms wading jacket that allows me to carry all my gear in the one jacket and keeps me dry and warm in my winter fishing and keeps everything nice and simple and handy. I only wish I could stop leaving my nets on the river!

      Yep, pretty happy with it so far. Haven't been cold or wet once since I got it!
      I have donated a few nets to a few rivers myself over the years!

      Hi Alex. Thank you for your donations, especially the one on the TT. can you see if you can leave the long handled one in your next donation?

    You always put out a great product Alex. Thanks for taking the time to do these. I know the time commitment required (which cuts into your fishing).

    Quick tip for assembling rods: If you start in reverse order (start at the tip section) and work your way back towards the rod handle it can help make assembly a little quicker. Always makes my day to see new content from you.

    Just like our steelhead fishing in the NW. Those lake run fish sure act like steelies.

    • @TrippinOnTrout
      @TrippinOnTrout  2 года назад

      They are from Californian steelhead stock apparently…

    Might try the water in front of you with a streamer by high sticking it like a nymph, no indicator, just watch the leader where it enters the water, you'll see or sense the take, be patient, it works.

    What kind of fly line do you use for the streamer set up Alex? Nice vid😀

    Good point on the spawning fish, leave them alone, they do not need to be harassed..

    Your casts are strong bro. I like the fact you don't put much effort into mending. Good casters do not need to mend... On the swing, of course. Single spey that shit! It will be wanting more. Cheers

      @TrippinOnTrout  5 лет назад

      Cheers man, I feel like I am starting to find my groove now. When you nail it, it all just comes together oh so smooth.....and then BAM, that sweet, sweet weight at the end of the line!! Single Spey is the Way!

    Hmm when i fish for salmon and they bump the fly but wont commit i normally change to a smaller fly in the same pattern and they take it, would that apply to the bow's as well in your opinion?

    • @TrippinOnTrout
      @TrippinOnTrout  5 лет назад +1

      Makes a lot of sense to me. I will make sure I have some different sizes of the same patterns and put that to the test. Thanks for the tips man🤙

      You are so right! That is the same tip given to me on fishing the river mouths entering the Rotorua lakes by the local Ranger 40 years age, worked then works now.

    As usual - an exceptional vid. I've just purchased 2 Inreach Mini Garmin GPS units and 3 of the Lifestraws based solely on your vid recommendations for a two week elk bow hunt in New Mexico. (Sponsors take note) Will be getting some of the gear recs for this year''s fishing trip to NZ. Already have the coffee press- how many cups did you have BEFORE you made the vid??.. Will send you an email to book in Feb/Mar. A big thanks to Grant at Creel Lodge for selling me my first fly rod 2 years ago and being so helpful- I caught 30 Salmon in Alaska on that very same 6 wt in early August. Hey Gareth- start bothering to reply.

      Thanks buddy, stoked you enjoyed it. My next GPS will be an inReach. Great bit of kit and good on you for getting the safety gear. The lifestraw you will LOVE. Feel free to hit me up with any questions regarding your NZ trip.
      I will look out for your email - Last week of Feb is still clear as of now..

    When I started fishing it was wet or dry.Spent three frozen mornings at Waitahanui catching nothing,finally asked the locals what I was doing wrong 'Are you catching weed?' yep "not weed brother fresh fish next time drop some line."couple of casts later first Taupo fish.Might be worth a try on the swing.Neil Ryan

      I actually started trying to make an effort to do that this week. Not sure how much difference it made but I did nail a few. Cheers man

    When the fly starts to swing bro either micro strip with small twitches of the rod tip or do a traditional swing with a little wiggle of the rod tip both of those part action to the streamer giving it more of a natural look which can encourage a strike and also sometimes big slow strips with a strong twich of the rod tip can trigger strikes out of aggression bro give that little tip next video my bro also another mean video man 🎣🇦🇺

    Another great vid Alex, watched till the end. Wish I watched this prior to being on the Hinemaiaia on Monday, plenty of fish about but struggled with only one big jack taken by annoying a pod of them for half an hour upstream short line woolybuggering. Haha!
    Great vid dude!

    First time watcher, liked it, except having to keep adjusting the volume between the music (too loud IMO) and the dialogue (too low). Beautiful colors on those fish!
