Hi mate these fish are landlocked in a very big lake and spawn up its feeder rivers, the are exactly the same as your steel head just not able to get to the sea. cheers dude
If they cannot get to the sea and return then it is still a trout . Some call them sea run cut throat or a steelhead.. but those fish have been to the sea and have returned... cheers dude..
ahh your fish are like the great lakes 'steelhead' still a migratory trout. No Salt? No Steel. Its a simple as that. loved your video. your snap t is so quick but you still throw super tight loops! wikked. Cheers from BC!
Just lift the rod up deliberately after the fish grabs and runs with it. No setting of the hook or it will pull the fly out of the steelhead’s mouth. They -retry much hook themselves.
Great footage - I dont have a spey rod..but have my old 8wt 9'6. Can you suggest a line that casts/rolls like yours. Ive always used a shooting head sinker for streaming...appreaciate your help

Andrew Horton get on the opst commando heads or airflo 40 plus
I’d get around a 300 grain or so opst commando head for it. Def ask the guy (or gal) in the fly shop what grain tho I could be wrong on that.
Why the hell are you drinking instant coffee?
bombingbloke fair comment. It’s what you do at 4 in the morning. Instant coffee is pretty standard in New Zealand
Trout Hunting NZ comming from a hating coffee perfectionist lol
