I'm in Montana and love fishing mouse patterns in the fall (late September to now) for big browns. I tried it years back ; we get a high-water flood season that leaves log debris "jams" on many of our rivers and it makes for prime conditions for large flies and larger than average fish
Check my post above yours. Mouse patterns from 30 years ago where the big thing for giant browns at night. There's a book published about it. Nightfishing for trout. The pusher paterns where tied in Butte, I've used them all over, got an 7 lber out of the big hole. 1am total dark. Thought it was a beaver that I hooked
☝🏻 💯%
Slap the other bank and just wiggle-skate that bad boy across the pools.. 🐁 💥☠️
Been waiting years for this one! Hands down my fav way to fish for trout and while it’s unlikely I’ll ever make it down there, chucking mice in NZ has always been a dream of mine. Been following along watching for a long time and always hoped we’d get a mouse mission so I’m pumped for this one! Haha cheers from Ohio 🍻
Great presentation and action on that mouse pattern
The fishing is obviously the best but i really enjoy seeing these beautiful places, NZ is a beautiful country North and South.
We do lots of mousing here in Michigan….though at night , in the pitch dark.. As a guide in Alaska in the 90s…..mousing was the absolute best for BIG rainbows. Love it! GREAT video!
Super strong and healthy rainbows. Super video.
Awesome video! Try the side-by-side wiggle as you swing. Absolutely deadly here in BC.
Awesome,we do this in Northern Ontario,Canada for giant specs, works great on browns as well.
Nice day of fishing..!
👍😎🤙
Only ever fished a mouse at night. Crazy eats!! Well done gentlemen 🐭👍🏼
Love that mouse pattern.
Thank G for another fun experience!!
Yeah, mousing rocks... so exciting, explosive & visual!
That’s epic! And that mouse pattern is next level. I need to get back to New Zealand. Not sure the Aussie trout will be into this.
This is pretty cool, I'm definitely going to try it this summer
Pretty cool when a freshwater fish readily eats some mammals! My buddy caught a monster rainbow last year in a local Wyoming reservoir that had 3 mice in its digestive tract!
Gotta try those big pools at night! Summertime,Talking the big rivers in Montana, Clarks fork, Flathead especially around Enis..20 -30 years ago we used to fish big "pusher" flys and mouse paterns with a super slow twitch retrieve across those big swimming hole type areas, especially attractive where tree roots and deep cover are present.
The big browns turn totally predatory, like larger food sources and ignore hatches and day time activities. Wall hangers!
I mostly nymph, but the last couple of years I started using some streamers. I'm hooked ( ;-) ). I spend 5 months a year by the West Fork of the Madison. A lot of the water there is pretty fast and choppy. Would you fish mouse flies there, or would you only do it further downstream? Also, do you have any favorite mouse patterns? Thanks.
Incredible looking mouse fly, who ties those? Great video, as always. Thanks for posting.
Nice work GB! I have some mice that I bought 40+ years ago, might have to give one a whirl.
The tug is the drug, streamers and mice! More please.
Congratulations on reaching 100 hundreds subscribers
nice video👍 some flashbacks from the movie Once In a Blue Moon...
Always wanted to try mousing in NZ. Doesn't really happen around here. Looks like a fun time!
Here in the mountains of Sweden a mouse can be more effective the a regular dry fly, in some of the lake the bigger trout rather take mouse or a small bird instead, more food with little effort.
I throw mouse patterns under night vision it's such an epic way to fish.
Frick Sweet lookin trout. Thanks
Great fishing
There was a movie made years ago called..Once in a Blue Moon,it's all about mice and trout..when there is mice in plaque proportions when the ..flimed in the south island when the beach trees are seeding
Fun watch 👍🐭🐁 Enjoyed 👍
You gotta skate the fly… instead of a stop and go.
I get most mouse eats on the pause.
You definitely got to put a link to the mouse pattern or tying video to it lol
What a blst. Awesome.👌🔥💪
Bros busy getting his sausage out 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Gotta skate the little guy cross stream some more 😃
Nice fish. We get sea run Rainbows (Steelhead) here up to 20lbs.(9kg) the average is about 8lbs (3.6kg). Your fish bite better lol.
Excellent Garth, daytime eat on a mouse, how good is that
The mouse craze is coming down on NZ 😂 what's happening haha
Even that eel won't eat your lunch.
Isn't that where you camped? That was a great vid.
Hmm i am no expert but i would try a bit darker mouse and fish it more aggressively also across the river and downstream. A mouse doesent float down the river but try to cross it. Dont know if u care but atleast i tried:)
Halthy Raynbow buggas!
Let's go! 🔥🔥🔥
I would like to clarify this is no way shape or form my fly pattern. It is a prototype of Dustin Habaner’s mouse fly (of Taupo Rod and Tackle)
What type of smith sunglasses are those?
Where can I get one of those Gandalf style hiking/wading sticks?
Where can i get one of those mouse flies
What weight rod were you using with the mouse?
Try it at dusk/night
Where can we get that mouse fly?
1 rod mouse fly, 1 rod streamer
Great. Has anyone ever seen a big trout predating on a real mouse?
Used to fish a dam in Utah and the mice would fall off the concrete all the time.. the poor bastards never made it back to the rocks lol
Where can I get some of these mouse patterns
Do you guys ever catch eels on flies???
I have had eels attack the trout on the line when I am playing it into the landing net
What is the name of that mouse fly?
Works for smallmouth too…
Hey I like that if you are not subscribe shame on you that was cool..Luis from New Mexico USA Apache country.💪
First view
A mouse is not a Fly its a Lure.
