Thanks Alex! I have a lot of fun on the swing in that neck of the woods also. You will find a full spey rod easier and more forgiving than a switch, at least to learn two handed. I got taught to think of the shape of the sweep like looking at the shape of the handrail on a spiral staircase (looking sideways at it). Start sweep with rod low ie 6-12 inches off water, gradually raise the tip during the sweep and lift up to form the d loop at the end. and always watch your anchor not the target. Works for me 👍
Cool vid Alex! Nice to see you have finally taken up the double hander. Don't get despondent about your casting we all make a shite cast or two. Great content love the videos.
Awesome day on the water as always, I was just heading down from Auckland and we get closed down again. Same thing happened to me last time. Missing my fishing I will get there just in time to swing some wets !
I know how that feels, same happened to me on the first lock-down, missed out on some good brown trout action. I'm booked for a week at Turangi middle of September. I hope they let us out of Auckland by then.
Trippin On Trout well 5 packs of clear eggs on the way but might have to use them next year lol the way it’s going it will be cicada time before they let us out this nut house lol
Great stuff bro, hope you guys get the latest outbreak under control and Australia gets on top of covid, we need the Trans Tasman Bubble, missing the fishing over there.
if the australian polies got their head out of their asses and took it serious back in march with the rest of the world instead of thinking they were lucky, well they wouldnt have what they have. unbelievable stupidity shown
Sounds like you are getting hooked on the two hander! A bit of advice though, swing your fly tight to the reel, with a low drag setting; it eliminates a lot of human error. Carrying a loop can introduce a lot of potential problems
Great vid man! Let 'em eat it a bit longer on the swing before you whack 'em, might up the landing ratio a bit ;) It's the hardest thing in the world not to just swing for the fences when you feel the grab. I still mess it up sometimes too.
Haven't done any swinging flies ... When you talk about your sink tip (7 foot per second) ... are you talking about a sinking line or are you talking about a sinking leader
I may have misspoke (I can’t remember) but it’s 7 inches per second not feet and yes it’s an interchangeable sinking tip section that connects to your fly line
Great video thank you. I'm looking into a switch rod at the moment as I'm looking for something I can use for both salmon and trout fishing here in Ireland (to avoid having to potentially get two rods). I know you can use the switch for double hand casting but can you also use it for a single hand overhead cast?
I dunno about single hand - I’d say it would be too heavy but I may be wrong. I encourage anyone that reads this and knows better to comment and let us know.
About time I ventured from Gareth’s stream, glad I did.... great quality vid and really informative. Hope to jump onto one of your local rivers when the lockdown level drops again - fingers crossed we can get on top of it again soon (easier said than done!)
There is a loop ambassador I think he’s his name is Klaus Freeman Freeman I think if I’m not mistaken but basically that is the man you wanna follow just copy how he does it spey cast and forget anything else💪👍
Great stuff! I LOVE trout spey, would love to see some more spey content from you. So jealous of that amazing trout water you have over there!
Yeah we are spoilt for sure!

Yeah I’ve missed a few now from being to quick on the lift!
" I pretend it's not happening " Awesome. That's what I do in the middle of the lake when heavy downpour starts.
The art of sticking your fingers in your ears and going ‘LALALALALALA NOT LISTENING’ 😆😆

The rivers will firing for a while yet so hopefully you get here🤙
How many different set ups does one need?
You only NEED one but it’s fun to fish different ways..
Yeah, but I like buying toys. So more rods is gooood.
