Awesome build! I LOVE❤️ the headstock veneer! The stable where I keep my horse has an old barn they plan to take down. I want to snatch some planks and do the same. Thanks for the inspiration!
@mcitp mcitp it’s pine. It’s got humbuckers so it doesn’t sound exactly like a traditional telecaster. I think it sounds good, you can hear it in the video!
Man I've been dreaming of a beautiful natural wood guitar for years now. Like flame maple or poplar burl. "Prestigious" woods. But I always felt that something is still missing. Your video was randomly recommended. I saw the thumbnail and I knew that was it. Watched the video while drooling. This simple raw, cheap, torn wood is THE thing I've been missing on every design I saw. Thank you for sharing this one, officially the most beautiful guitar (to my taste) I've seen. If I manage to get enough woodworking skill someday, I'll definitely make myself one on this basis
Thanks! Thats very kind! My advice is just to get started. Don't wait. I definitely need to get better and there are things that I'm not good at but I learn more with every build!
@@dannylewisguitars I sadly have a very busy life, no room for equipment and few time to woodwork. I already worked on a kit but that's it. Still a medium-term project !
I have been wanting to do this myself! I just don't have all the tools to do what you have done in this video...Perhaps one day! This is so cool Danny! Thank you for sharing this one!
Thanks! Even if you don’t have all the tools I used here, I’d encourage you to give it a shot! You can build a body with a jig saw and a router! Or forget the router and use a chisel if you’re patient!
Thanks for the encouragement, maybe this summer when the weather clears here in Vermont, I'll go get some wood out of one of the old barns here on the property!@@dannylewisguitars
Nice build Danny , nice tone also considering the scrap timber and all the guff that goes into having to use certain grades of woods . At first I thought 🤷♂🤷♂ headstock going to come apart, should not have doubted your abilty , nice veneer 👍👍👍👍
I know this is now 15 months old, but I love this! I have a piece of barnwood that I am going to try to do something similar with. What did you use to finish the wood? I love the color of it.
@@dannylewisguitars Yeah 3 or 4 coats is usually plenty. You still want to keep the rustic look not making it too glossy. Your Reclaimed tele turned out very nice.
I drew it myself! I used my Stratocaster to start and then I just erased and sketched and erased and sketched again until it look like a telecaster. Then I cut it out and used it as a template!
@@dannylewisguitars nice, and you just got the necks bottom curve with a file or something? Im gonna try this next instead of a plastic routing template
@@gnaflethegarthok3074 the pre-fab neck’s corner is about a half inch radius so it matches the half inch router bit I used! When I make my own necks I file them to the same radius that the router leaves. I hope that made sense!
Thank you for sharing. No CNC, no begging for "subscription" no selling Patreon, just sharing your passion. Outstanding.

@@dannylewisguitars Ha ha ha. Exactly!
That matching headstock is a killer touch, brother.
100% It looks cool.
My favorite guitar you built
This has to be my favorite guitar build on the RUclipss!
You are far too kind, my friend.
Agreed.
Imma sit back and watch this channel take off.... Great work, editing, pacing. New sub. This is good stuff here brothers and sisters.
Thank you! We’ll see if that take-off ever happens! But I’m just doing this for fun so I’m happy with whatever!
100% he should have a lot more subs. Hopefully he gets there.
hope those were toan dowels you put in it. nice work hand bombing all the routing. awesome guitar man, you make it look so easy!
Definitely, strategic placement of dowels for extra tone. Hand touting because I’m too cheap to buy templates! Thanks!
Yeah I replaced the dowels on my guitar with tonal dowels.Best decision I ever made.
Awesome build! I LOVE❤️ the headstock veneer! The stable where I keep my horse has an old barn they plan to take down. I want to snatch some planks and do the same. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you! I wasn’t sure how this would turn out when I started but I’m pretty happy with it now that it’s done.

@mcitp mcitp pretty similar to any of my store bought guitars with humbuckers.
Yeah I would have never thought about using veneer. It turned out great!
Barncaster 😂 I love it !
I've been making things out of recycled wood for many years and it's such a great feeling to repurpose things and be creative
Unfortunately, I didn’t come up with the term barncaster, although it is just about the perfect term for what it is!

Cool build!
Thanks man! I'm looking forward to seeing your finished florentine guitar. I love the way the end of the fingerboard turned out. Very cool.
Too perfect!!!! I freaking love this build
Outstanding! I love everything about this video! And your video production skills are on point too. Cheers from Cali!

Great build!!
Thanks!

Thanks! I used shellac for finish on this one.
Awesome! I have a half can of amber shellac hiding some where I think I will try it!
What product did you use for varnish?
I think I used zinsser shellac that I thinned with alcohol.
Really nice build, dude..how's the playability..action n intonation come out good as well?👍👍
Yup @ 5:24 there's the application. How many coats did you use?
It was a few months ago but I’m pretty sure I did 3-4 coats!
@@dannylewisguitars Yeah 3 or 4 coats is usually plenty. You still want to keep the rustic look not making it too glossy. Your Reclaimed tele turned out very nice.
Great work dude, what did you use as finish?
Shellac. It’s my favorite. Easy and dries quick.
Most inspirational build ever! Would you mind telling us which pre made neck that is and were you happy with it?
It was a Mighty Mite neck. It was well made in general. There was a bit of a rise at the 16th-22nd frets that I had to do a lot of filing to overcome.
@@dannylewisguitars thank you
@@dannylewisguitars Mighty Mite necks are usually really good necks.
This is amazing. I saw a video where a guy built a guitar from a table leaf. Now I’m hooked, where did you get the body template?
I drew it myself! I used my Stratocaster to start and then I just erased and sketched and erased and sketched again until it look like a telecaster. Then I cut it out and used it as a template!
I'm a poor man so I can't buy a guitar and make it as good as yours. Then the guitar seems like a dream 🥺🥺🥺
What are those white blocks made out of that you used for the neck pocket?
Just some scrap wood, they’re off cuts from our white cabinets. I think it’s just prefinished pine.

@@dannylewisguitars lol nice, i think i’ll just use a sander to get the bottom curve. wish me luck
I would fill in those cracks along with stabilizing them the way you did, but that is just me. I guess you want them to show. No pretense.
The client I made it for wanted it to be rough and old. So I left them! Pretense is for suckers!
What was that finish you brushed on the body?
Shellac!
You didn't coat the inside of the pickup holes with metallic paint to prevent hum and Buzz
That is true! Please forgive me.
