Loooveee how you said manners, cleaning up after yourself are most important than reading. Definitely true!! I was born in Russia and we only started reading at like 7. We had more fun and learned other things before learning how to read. Thank you so much for sharing your essentials. Blessings to you and your household 🙏🏻❤️
"theres no rush to teach them how to read or write, theyll get that"... sister you just nailed homeschooling and parenting. God bless you and your family. Subbed
I was homeschooled And now homeschooling a first grader and kindergartener. I’m actually another homeschool mama that really didn’t love the 100 easy lessons book haha. Your list is great! Just keep it SIMPLE especially when first starting. Just relax and create a fun enjoyable environment. Talk to them, encourage questions and read a ton of books to them. The point is to cultivate a love of learning and curiosity.
Met a homeschooling mom at the library who had a minimal financial budget. She did most of her homeschooling at the library. Her children were required to read for 2 hours a day. The child chose the reading material and when the 2 hours would be completed. The family studied a country for one year at a time. Each child had a pen pal in that country. Afternoons were spent at home. The children had to teach their siblings what they learned that day. Father, an engineer taught math and science (library books) Her children tested 2 to 4 years ahead of their grade. Her children loved to read and learn.
Thank you so much for doing this kind of content! I am considering homeschooling my son for Kindergarten in the upcoming school year and these videos have been so helpful.
It definitely makes me nervous, but I love the idea of the freedom and flexibility you get with homeschooling. Thank goodness for the RUclips community where there are so many different homeschool moms who offer a wealth of knowledge.
See if your library does holds! What I do is go online and look up book lists suggestions for whatever subjects I’m doing (holidays, seasons, ect) and then go to the library website and see if they have have them and then I put the ones I want on hold. Then I’ll get an email when they are ready to be picked up and then grab them from the hold shelf at the library. That way I get the books I need with out searching and then I let my girls pick out one or to random books while we are there. (Be sure your selecting books that are in your town, not just your County and select your local library for pick up so you don’t have to wait forever for the books to get to your library). Also look what programs your library has for kids! Mine does toddlers and preschool story time, kids crafts and clubs, and events for holidays too. We love our library!
In regards to the books: besides having educational books, also get them books they just love! It sparks a love for reading and that will get them so far in life! Because kids who love to read, will also develop a much wider vocabulairy, a better understanding of language and grammar etcetera. Being a better reader will make information easier to understand, faster to read. And becoming a better reader only happens when you enjoy reading.
Hayley, I started watching you when I was pregnant with my first. Aka all your pregnant content with Annabelle and beyond hah. Fast forward now. We both have 3 kids and I’m also starting to homeschool this year (K5 Abeka). I just love all of your content and I’m so thankful you take the time to make videos and share with us!! You’re so good at explaining and teaching. So I just wanted to say thank you!!!
Man! I am exactly on the same page as you when it comes to the mindset around home schooling little ones!!! When you said teach them good habits, kindness, playing I was like YEP YEP AND YEP! Totally agree that they will learn to read and write eventually so it doesn’t need to be such a rush to get to. You have so many great recommendations in this video! I will definitely be picking up that book so thank you! I’m gonna try my Apple Watch for a timer (for now) bc my 4 year old hates when I put a timer on when she’s taking too long to eat dinner so idk if that will traumatize her if I use it for schooling 🙄 We have the magnet tiles and I think it was like $40 a box. We had one box until my second child came along and they needed to build bigger structures so I bought a second box. Probably will get a third. My 4 year old is SOOOOO spatially creative it’s insane!!! So interesting to see what different things your kids are gifted in. My 2 year old loves pretend cooking but my 4 year old would rather build things. Thank you for the recommendations!!
Loving the homeschool content! I have a 3 year old as well that I just started homeschool with so it’s awesome to watch videos that I directly relate to. Please keep it coming!
Yesss! So much of these are essentials on our homeschool as well! Living books, craft supplies galore, calaendars to change the month, day of the week, date, and weather, and magnatiles FTW!
I don't know if this is still available, but I really enjoyed the Five in a Row reading supplemental curriculum. It supplements learning in the core subjects with children's books. They also offered Before Five in a Row.
Love to hear from you Hayley!!! Have watched the channel since you were pregnant with Annabelle! Looking into homeschooling for our family, I’m so grateful to have your take on it! God bless you and your family, always! ☺️❤️
We are homeschooling as well. I would love to switch activities every 30 mins 😃 unfortunately i work a full time m-f 10-7p job sometimes 8-7p 😞 on phone calls from home Definitely need a change…
The handwriting books have been amazing. My kids have been so funny and actually really enjoy workbooks. My daughter has learned her handwriting from those and she has really good handwriting. All my kids(I have 3 like you) love to pull them out. I highly suggest giving the good and beautiful math a try when you get there, we have been loving the new one. I used the same learning to read book and it was pretty good. We ended up switching to All About Reading because my daughter was struggling. Also, looking back, I just needed to be patient and put it away for a bit. Reading is going really well now because she wants to learn and it's clicking so much better.
I had seen this video months ago and thought I subscribed but then I couldn’t find you again! I finally found you today by searching for home school materials for kindergarten! I’m so happy I found your channel again!!! 🙌🏼🫶🏻 we are starting homeschool with our 3 year old this fall and this video is super helpful, thank you!
Have you read The Three R's by Dr. Ruth Beechick? We just started homeschooling my 4 year old and it's been very informative for me as someone without a teaching or early education background. I also just ordered a full kindergarten curriculum for her to start after she turns 5 next month because she's been catching on to preschool stuff so fast we finished the preschool materials in three months.
Hi Hayley! Love that you are sharing a ton on your homeschooling 🥰 Can you also share what curriculum/books you are using for your kindergartner.. thank you!
My greatest fear about homeschooling is that it would be too inconsistent , lax, and they would miss fundamental markers in learning. It sounds more like your “un-schooling” instead of home schooling It seems like your really motivated ❤️ Best of luck
I get those concerns:) Luckily there are so many resources especially today. My main goal is to encourage them to want to learn vs force them to learn info that they regurgitate for a test just to get the grade...and also helping them learn how to find information in the first place. I do like unschooling! But right now we are taking it one day at a time since they are small:)
i’m loving this content!! i would love to request a mom makeup tutorial (u r beautiful!!) and recommendations for outfits (i always love ur style in ur videos)
Great video! Also LOVE your shirt! Can you share where you got it? I always adore your clothes and would love to see a video/haul on your style as a mom.
I know you were living in South Carolina at one point. Where are you now? I ask because I have a five year old homeschooled daughter too I’m dying to find some kiddoes to get her together with🥺
I’m a stay at home mom *attempting* to create structure and promote learning with my toddler. So these tips totally help! Ill totally be checking out the book about learning how to read you mentioned!
the book list is cute, but there is a huge lack of diversity and representation. Make sure to check out books that are "doors and windows" not just mirrors.
Hi Hayley, what are your thoughts on homeschooling an only child, he’s almost 3 andI feel like he’ll just be lonely with mom all day. There are no co-ops around here regrettably. Thank you for any input here.
If I were in your situation I would probably create my own co-op lol. You should follow one of my students Little By Little Homeschool on IG though and ask her opinion! She's very experienced:)
@@americandreamrevival i understand, it just seems like u didnt give key points and explain for each thing or topic? And whatever u mentioned was fast then u said whatever, 🤷🏽♀️

Is the Laying down the rails book for parents to read or to read to the kids? My son loves trains, so maybe this concept will help!
