Kids are not meant to sit in desks all day. Period. Humans learn by exploring and doing. There's so much wrong with the public school system. So glad you posted this!
100%. People blame technology and helicopter parenting (kids not being allowed out of sight of a parent at any time) for the obesity crisis. I'm not saying these things don't play their part, but it's crazy how everyone ignores the fact that we make 5 year olds sit at a desk for 6 to 8 hours and then send them home with so much homework that there is literally no more time to play before bed. When exactly are they supposed to exercise? A lot of schools even send home homework on weekends starting in kindergarten or even PreK and the kids are obviously already exhausted from the week of school where things that boomers, Gen X and millennials learned in 1st or 2nd grade are crammed into their heads. They are training them to sit all day and punish and label those that don't comply and then complain that kids sit too much. School is such a blind spot for the general population. It plays such a major part in soo many things that are going wrong but everyone wants to sweep that under the rug.

@@mchobbit2951 Very clear. Mainstream schooling is about institutionalisation and creating narrow minded and specialised employees. Mainstream schooling will not solve illiteracy and innumeracy.
I see a lot of comments from parents saying they are tired of being around their kids, or that they want their kids to be in school just to have time away from them. I personally don’t understand this. I never thought of school as a babysitter to get my kids out of my hair. I also don’t understand why anyone would want to have kids if they don’t want time with them. I get that everyone does need some time away from each other. It’s not healthy to spend 24hrs a day with anyone but when parents are saying they can’t wait for summer to end so their kids can go back to school makes no sense to me. I love having my kids at home.

I do miss my alone time (hugely introverted) but it's worth the sacrifice.
People used to say homeschooling kids were weird, sheltered, indoctrinated, etc. but now it’s the opposite 😂😂 you have public schools putting kids in clear cubicles, masking them up, not allowing them to play with their friends or work together, putting barriers between kids as they eat inside, making them wear clear tents over their bodies when playing a musical instrument or singing in choir… all while the homeschooled kids are free, learning through play and experiences. Playing with friends, learning through daily field trips, etc.
The change has been drastic. I saw over 2 million children were pulled from public schools in CA, good.
I am a public school teacher and I will be quitting and homeschooling my children. Kudos to you for doing the same!!!
amen,.. pulled my children out in Australia while we were going on excursions and out and about the kids in school had to do all the mandates, cancelled excursions and cancelled lunch play time etc
They still say that, unfortunately. You can throw all the statistics, facts, and studies you want at them but they refuse to accept it.

Critical thinking is a right and not a privilege. Tertiary education is producing professional quacks, with recognised qualifications.
I’m a single mom but I homeschool. You make time for the things that are important to you and this was a non negotiable for me.

I'm a senior in high school, but this stumbled on my reccomended feed. I 100% agree with this video though. From kindergarten - 10th grade, I went to public schools. It was a horrible experience for me. I got bullied all the time for stuff like my interests (I still watch things like PAW Patrol and Blue's Clues), not having a dad, and being born in Chile. It was really taking a toll on me. Then, in March of my sophomore year, COVID happened and sent everyone to online school. Then, for my entire junior year, I stayed online, and absolutely loved it. My mom did too. However, for my senior year, they wanted to send everyone back to school, and my mom didn't want me to go back at all, I didn't want to go back either. We found this online school that my school district does, and I got enrolled into it (it was free). Now I'm graduating in almost two months, and it's awesome! I don't worry about friends, because my mom is my best friend. Whenever she has her days off work, because of the schedule of the school, I get to spend all day with her. I work ahead, and all of the work is planned out for the semester so you know your due dates. I have all A's, and am currently top of my graduating class (1 of 432). It's the happiest I've ever been, and my mom just regrets not knowing about the online school either. Best year of my life :)

Oh my goodness Im so happy to hear that, I feel like in Sweden where Im from they all think badly of homeschooling and its not even allowed, thay are scared children will not be socialized or become as educated and smart that they will feel lonely or left out etc, and Im so happy to read your story, that proves the opposite, I didnt like school at all, 19 years of day in and out, like a pison, I was so awkward socially when I was younger even though I did make some friends but I would have been 100% better off online and most likely had a much much better job, I did however move abroad for uni to London and after L.A and those were the best years of my life =) Good luck with your graduation.

Im black if you couldn’t tell 😂 & I’m the first in my family to ever homeschool. So my family freaked out when I said I’m going to stay home & homeschool my kids because I wanted to raise INDEPENDENT thinkers. It’s really not common for black women to do that in my family. “I’m lazy, or I am just helicopter mom” but it’s really NOT that. Idk how to explain but your video was spot on.

My kids are grown now but I always wanted to homeschool. My husband was the one who was against it and we did have family that thought it wasn’t really schooling also. I personally think it’s great when people are able to homeschool their children. I’m glad you are doing what you think is right!!

You made the wise choice. There’s so much political interference in schooling now that’s teaching black kids to view themselves as inferior and telling them they have no chance at succeeding in life. It’s horrible to think at what effects this will have on kids down the line

Haley, I was a K-5 teacher for 3 years, and when I left the classroom, I was reassured of what I had been feeling for years. Schools are a conveyor belt, and teachers although we try, cannot know or cater every child, because of the demands and pressures from administration, and the results they desire. After quitting teaching, and feeling like a robot for the last 27 years, I decided to homeschool my kiddos as well!

The demand on teachers is ridiculous, to get high test grades. There is no room for creativity and real teaching. It’s a system set to fail for teachers and students.
Same here! I cannot agree more with what she said. I am more passionate about homeschooling than anything else right now after leaving teaching after 14 years to homeschool my preschoolers. This is now our life path and we couldn't be happier.
I find most moms who are sick of their kids are those who send them to public school and have to deal with the disconnect and crappy attitudes they pick up from school.
To those who say they don't have the patience for it, you learn patience by being... patient.
I'm going to homeschool but never wanted to and I hate that I won't have the break. I'm allowing myself to feel the feelings and move on lol you are completely right.
I had zero plans to homeschool and had my oldest in a private school for k4 and k5. Through a series of events, he wound up at home the next year. We are in year 5 now with 2 kids and never looking back.
I feel that putting them in school young creates the problems where parents can't handle being around their children

I was homeschooled, private schooled, and public schooled growing up. Homeschooled was DEF the best for me.
My biggest reason why I homeschool my kids (they are in 4th & 7th now) is that time is so precious, and I don’t want them spending such a large amount of time in school.
I think people low key forget that time is our most precious resource. We won’t live forever & every moment is special. We spend our time doing school but we also go hiking, swimming, art, cooking, ice skating, shopping, running errands, going to the movies and making absolutely beautiful memories together.
Creators vs consumers & travel are both HUGE!!!!
Full time nurse here who also homeschools full time. I absolutely love hearing about other moms who have discovered how wonderful this journey truly is. Our babies are only with us for a limited time. And this is a great opportunity to enjoy every moment, make memories, and instill a love of life time learning.

@@tigercruz3559 Nurses typically have a 3-day schedule which is 12 hours shifts. So she probably works Friday through Sunday and the rest of the days for homeschooling.
I was homeschooled, my husband was homeschooled, and we will be homeschooling our 4 children as well!
I was homeschooled 5thgrade-12th. My husband was homeschooled his entire life. My mom barely graduated high school and felt very under qualified but knew my education couldn’t be left up to chance with the public school. It was hard and we struggled but I couldn’t be happier. It thought be to learn with ways that work best for me and love learning without it being forced into me in a structured format. I entered college and thrived because I already knew how to schedule and teach myself without a structured classroom. I now hold a graduate degree in a stem field and so does my husband. We plan to definitely homeschool our children even tho we live in a top school district in our state. Don’t leave your children up to chance in a government cog!
We're about to enter our 8th year of homeschooling. My oldest is now 11 the way i see she behaves and what she is interested in and how she interacts with others and her siblings compared to 11 yr old girls in public school has proved to me there is no way in hell i would ever send my kids to school lol no matter how little time i get to myself or how much we make one one income.
I was homeschooled through high school. My mom was a SAHM who used to be a teacher and taught all three sisters and me. I enjoyed the free time my public school friends didn’t have. We could finish all our school in three hours each day and go on field trips practice hobbies and get jobs. I wasn’t great at math but was able to finish all math requirements in college no problem. Also, I took SOLs each year at public school just to ensure we were “up to par.” I want to homeschool my kids because I love that freedom it offers. I owe the freedom of my teenage and college years to being schooled at home and being able to choose my own path at an early age without restrictions of thought or much peer pressure to have a certain job or go to a certain college. I went to community college, saved money, transferred and then finished my degree online. Happy to say I only have $12,000 in loans to pay, a job from home, and happy.
Love this story! I had an awful time when I was in school and would have loved to able to homeschool. I am homeschooling my 2 kids, 11 and 12 and still so glad I made the choice 3 years ago to do it. I hope my children enjoy it and appreciate it when they look back at this time and have no regrets about public school. I've had a gut feeling that I should be homeschooling them years ago. ❤
John Taylor Gatto opened my eyes to what I already knew. He made it make sense. He was a public school teacher. He was an amazing person for bringing this issue to light. Amazing video on this issue! Great job covering this. Some just aren't ready to receive this message yet. The seed is planted & the movement to embrace our differences with a moral compass will grow.

I feel like I just drop my kids at school/daycare and their left with strangers, and I come home see them for a couple hours, and it’s time for bed . I seek approval from their teachers, from my boss, from society, and now I’m in school again to get my nursing degree because being a medical Assistant for yearsssss is degrading because we don’t get paid much!
It’s so hard to explain how I feel, but I get what your saying. It’s always having approval from other people
Medical Assistants are vital they literally run everything that’s messed up you should and all other people in your field should get decent amount man 🤦♀️things are so crazy
I homeschooled my daughter from 9th until graduation. We were part of a co-op so I didn’t do it alone. The co-op included many families who homeschooled. This helped with the “teacher load” as well as provided my daughter with many social activities. I will be forever grateful we had the opportunity.
I’m a single mom of 4 that homeschools. Before I get the “how” question.. my ex husband gives enough alimony and child support but it’s still tight and yes we have to put our kids first for this to work.

I’m surprised by the defensive teachers in the comments. This wasn’t at all a criticism of teachers, especially those who care about their students! It’s a broken system as a whole and it’s great to have people who care on the inside working to help improve it.

It's like you are inside my head! I just left teaching after 14 years to homeschool my own children because I realized I did not want them to ever set foot in a public school! I don't want my kids to have their creativity and interests dampened because they have to be part of "the system".
Hayley!!!! Raising free thinkers is so amazing, I'm 100% with you! Who can teach our kids better than ourselves if it a possible option! School system and college institutions are just money makers and make it so hard to find happiness as adults. It's not for everyone and that is okay.
I’m a teacher and have tons of students that love school. We have cool resources and programs that make learning fun. Families take educational trips as breaks from school- to Yellowstone and to other countries. My own two daughters love public school and their teachers are kind and creative. I’m glad you feel homeschooling works for you, but public school works for us and I just wanted to share for any parents that can’t choose this route or want an alternative viewpoint.
I would have HATED homeschooling as a kid. School was my escape from not the best home life. I excelled at it and loved the social parts. Theater gave me something to look forward to. I had tons of amazing teachers. While I support homeschooling and those who choose it, I also think we need to support those who choose public school better. We complain about how things are taught but then give teachers little control over what curriculum they teach and push test scores and progress over what's best for the student. That's what's wrong. There are many many good teachers that do the best for their kids. I appreciate the hard work they put in. 💕

I have one who went through our neighborhood public school from k-5, then both my kids homeschooled via charter school last year, & now I have one completely homeschooling & one in an in person co-op public charter school. We’ve kind of done it all! There are pros & cons to each, sometimes you may even find different avenues suit you in different seasons.
One thing I like about the co-op school is that it’s a little smaller & really values parent involvement. It’s still a public school but feels a lot more community driven. I would love to see that in all schools. We are planning to move away so I’m not sure what we’ll do for the rest of middle & high school yet. I don’t know if I have the stamina to homeschool high school, it’s a whole different beast. 😅
Another public school teacher here. I do agree with some of what Haley says more so now that I have my own kids but I would not go as far as to blame the school system entirely. I think many of the attitudes regarding success only being linked to good grades come from parents. I have had so so many students crying to me over a “bad” grade because they know their parents will be irate regardless of the schools efforts to convince otherwise. I think this video is a bit of an over generalization.
Public schools teach kids to be like everyone else. You should believe like this, you shouldn't do that, this is normal, this is not normal. Public schools normalize so many things that shouldn't be normalized, such as being gay, being trans, gender neutral pronouns, boys that say "I'm a girl" can use the girls restrooms, public schools teach kids that if they don't conform to these beliefs that they are wrong and bad. Public schools are full of underage sex, underage pregnancy, drugs, party's, and bully's. Public schools teach children that they need to fit the mold, be like everyone else, that friends are so important when most are toxic, and it teaches kids to never let go of anyone. Public schools suck! I was homeschooled and I will be homeschooling my daughters, for their protection and their futures, they'll be smarter and won't care what others think about them! I'm raising warriors not victims and robots. Good luck

Yes! We are heading into homeschooling as I lean back into motherhood. Lovely to hear so many similarities about your thoughts and where you are now.
I feel so drawn to homeschool mostly because I had such a bad public school experience. When you started talking about math, it really hit me. I remember vividly being in like 3rd grade and doing timed tests for math and being ridiculed in front of the whole class about how little progress I made on my timed test. I think that day started my hatred for school. I don’t want that for my children! My biggest battle is getting my husband on board 100% 🙄 but my kids are 3.5 and 16 months, so I’m starting with at-home preschool and hopefully I’ll win him over! I was in early childhood education so I feel confident!
We pulled our 7 and 9 year old boys out of school and began homeschooling this year. We were fed up with the crazy workload, being cooped up 8 hours a day, and assessments for things that didn't matter or promote learning or critical thinking. It has been a huge blessing for them and so much more fulfilling for us as parents.

I was homeschooled from age 4 until10th grade. finished 11th and 12th grade back at homeschooling because even in the 11th grade i felt like my teachers were failing me. I wasn’t learning. I was memorizing information to take tests and then forgetting it.
As an adult i now see that homeschooling helped me become a critical free thinker. There’s so much freedom being home schooled!

Not all school districts nowadays are wholesome things especially with the news from the Loudoun County school district disaster concerning the rape allegation/burying of it in the MSM and Departement of Justice declaring concerned parents as terrorists for speaking up for the wellbeing of their children...whew! that was disgusting what DOJ director Merrick Garland did! This is soooo good! I’ve said some of those same things about homeschooling but since getting pregnant and having my 6 month old, my whole mindset on homeschooling has changed in a positive way
Love this video! Me and my husband also have an online business. We work from home and homeschool our 10 year old son. The family time and bonding time we have together is truly a blessing. Homeschool is a sacrifice but it’s absolutely 100% worth it! It has changed my life and mind set in so many ways for the better.

You know I LOVE this video and am so excited for your family to homeschool. All of those things you want to do are 100% possible. We are 11 years in and I am so glad we stepped out of the system. My children are who they are today because we are marching to the beat of our family's drum and not the government school system.

Public schools need to be invested in and changed to better fit the individual needs of students. We have to have a public option for schooling that can educate any and every kid. Some districts are better at this than others and I’d be in favor of a complete overhaul of the system. Homeschooling is a good option for kids that have someone who can do a good job of it and afford it. But it’s important that we support public education and make it better for all. I say this as a public school teacher. Sometimes I feel like I’m just mitigating the harm done to kids from the schooling system, but many times we are doing right by our kids and giving them joy, success, and pride in what they are learning and doing, and the flexibility to help them figure out their passions and connect them to their learning. Teaching makes me a better person, too.
I homeschooled my son until he turned 7
and entered the homeschool community which is amazing and welcoming.
I loved that I taught my son how to read and I also always had him in extracurricular classes and sports throughout the day because there was flexibility. (It’s not just being at home like some people may think). Homeschooling gave me great concepts and I was able to practice being a natural teacher for my child. Any little thing or little moment can be a teaching moment. Homeschooling also gave us freedom. We were able to travel with my son to Europe and Mexico and take him to field trips at any time of the day we wanted. It was amazing. He learned about the different languages, and currencies, and reading the maps. He would talk with anybody during these trips. Building that confidence. We would catch up on school work or reading at night if we wanted or during our traveling, stuff like that.
I learned that the concept is to never stop learning, at any time of day.
Yes, he is in public school this year because he was asking for the experience of going to a cafeteria and recess and I wanted him to be able to compare it. The teacher is very passionate and I could tell because I know what to look for. The teacher tells me how advanced he is for his age and its able to give him work teared toward his level to be able to challenge him. It’s really neat to see how I worked on that with him during our homeschool years. ❤️
I agree with the unhappy adults aspect. When I sat and thought about it recently, for me, schooling taught me that “I’d be happy when” and set goals. Such as I’d be happy when I pass this class, I’d be happy when I graduate, etc. I’ve reached the goals and am not happy. Im working on that for me, but I’m also trying to help my kids be happy in the now.

We started homeschooling last year because we moved to a different city and that school district took six months to get back to us! If we hadn’t just started homeschooling he would’ve been behind a year. Homeschooling our children has been the best decision we could have made, it was bumpy at the beginning because we had to unlearn what the school system had taught us but once we got into our rhythm it was smooth sailing. They do school in three hours and play our learn other things that interest them. Best of luck with homeschooling.

Shalom and thank you so much for speaking up on this subject. I have 3 kids under 4… 3 and 22 month old twins, and I knew since having my first born son that I wanted to homeschool and originally my husband was not on board, but now he is because we are fully capable of being our children’s teachers, and we can make sure our children are not being exposed to things that we don’t agree with while still getting a great education! Plus, I’m choosing not to live life the way everyone else is so I guess my family and I will be weirdos too… I’m good with that lol. This is very encouraging and I so appreciate you for talking about this. I’m also very interested in learning how to make money from home to still financially provide.

I love this!! We send our children to a private school that is project based learning centered. The child guides the learning and presents their finds through mediums of their choice!! This is such an informative video!

There are benefits to homeschooling and benefits to in person/public school. Both options also have their downfalls. As a mother of a school age child in public school who did homeschool last year, it all comes down to parenting.
My child will never be left behind in a subject because I’m heavily involved. Grades do not matter in our family or in our school. The only things that’s matters is doing your best work. If my child is interested in a particular subject, we dive deep 🥰
What is difficult to replicate in homeschool is the social emotional development and collaborative work with peers on a daily basis that occurs in public school. Although one can try to simulate a similar set up in a co-op.
For my friends that have homeschooled their older children, it got challenging to homeschool with the higher level subjects in high school.

I totally relate to a lot of the points. When my daughter was in public school I was constantly looking forward to "me time". Since starting homeschool my relationship with her is so much better. I truly feel deep joy in my heart spending time with her. This has transformed so much for us!
Public schooling has always been deeply flawed, but it keeps getting worse while also demanding more and more of our children's time. Longer school years, longer school days, more homework and so on. These days, I'd be more worried about public schooled kids having no time to socialize and turning out weird. They are always at home doing homework, have 20 minutes to eat lunch at school and possibly no recess. Is that what we want childhood to be??
Sadly I feel like parents are not guiding, caring taking the time to help their little humans to be good people and not lazy. Not disrespectful, helpful and empathetic. The way we went to school back in the 90’s was was different than now. The standards are so different. There needs to be a good foundation at home for the kids to thrive.
As a homeschool mom even though we unschool and are able to spend that one on one time with my kids. We have our moments and bad days but we have a lot of great days. Our homeschool room has fun science themed room. Not cluttered, easy for them to access supplies. We have fun games to interact with homeschooling. Loved this thank you for sharing this video 💜

Yesssss. I'm glad you made this video. I was homeschooled during 7th-12th grade and I'm so glad that I was. I was able to separate myself from all kinds of peer pressure and explore academic subjects that I was interested in without fearing coming across as a "nerd" or whatever because I was actually interested in learning.
The unsocialized myth is so odd to me... you're right about that part. In high school I had a job, was involved with multiple extracurriculars, went to community college, and I was out in the "real world" a lot. I'm glad I wasn't stuck in a building all day with hundreds of people within a few years of my age exclusively. People would sometimes quiz me when they found out that I was homeschooled. I ended up scoring in the 97th percentile on my ACT test, so I wasn't missing out in that area either but it sucked that people were so judgemental and that I had to enter certain conversations armed with my standardized test scores to prove I wasn't behind in any way.
I recognize that it's a challenge for families to be able to homeschool and a lot of people probably don't have a choice but to send their kids to school. I'm facing that reality myself as a mom now. I'm still trying to figure out how I'll be able to make it work. But either way, I think it's important to advocate for homeschooling because so many kids can benefit from it! There's a ton of awesome, hardworking teachers in the public school system but it's the system that's ruining everything. :/

Only 7 min in and so happy to see you make this video. God has had it on my heart to homeschool for years and I’ve only just had my first baby in June. The timing of everything happening and my yearning to homeschool even years before my first son’s birth is not just a coincidence. The argument that kids will be weirdos is ludicrous. Children can be in no better place than with their parents learning and interacting with adults, not other children. We are the are tasked as parents to teach and train up our children, not teachers and peers. “Fitting in” isn’t a part of God’s plan for us.
Everyone knows a bunch of weirdos who went to public school!
i know a few single moms thay work full time and homeschool their 4 plus children. i also know families were both parents work full time and they homeschool their children....there a quite a few of families like this that i know personally and the number of children varies widely. homeschool does not have to happen on certain days at certain hours. you can homeschool whenever it works for you're families. that's the beauty of homeschool. don't let life circumstances stand in the way of doing what's best for you're children. don't let anything stand in the way of nurturing a strong family unit and pouring into you're children. were there's a will there's a way.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video!!! I just sent my son to kindergarten and have been regretting every moment. I had been homeschooling for the past year and we had made so much progress but he honestly doesn't seem to be very happy. I just don't really feel like school is for him but he just likes the interaction with other kids. This video gave me the extra confidence I needed to make the decision to pull him out of school.

Hayley I can relate on the math thing. I believed that while being homeschooled I had to be good at math all the time. I didn’t grasp algebra in high school. But in college I had an enthusiastic teacher and I was ready to try again and I wanted to learn. That was what made the difference. I wanted to and so I did. Thanks for sharing your story and enjoy your homeschool journey.
People that homeschool are used to having their kids around so the feeling of needing to get away from them is more rare than people who have been sending their kids out of the house for 7 or more hours a day.
Love this! We started dabbling in homeschool with our 4 year old this year. My family keeps asking when our kid will go to "real" school 🙄.
Just like people have no right to tell you how to spend your money since they dont pay your bills, they also don't get to comment on how you raise your kids since they dont deal with the tantrums, tear and sicknesses. I'm sure you know this though, keep doing what's best for little ones, people will start noticing how much smarter your child is than theirs. I have a 4th grader btw :)
I went to public school and I'm open to both homeschooling and public school. If you don't understand homeschooling listen little boxes or mad world lyrics. Those are the songs that really got me thinking about honestly how brainwashed we all are.
In any event I'm a cyber teacher now so I work from home with kids who are home. It's a little different than home schooling and might be an option.
Everything you do in life teaches whether it's good or bad. Yes it's sad I had to look at a clock and pray it was 3:00 everyday at school. At the same time it taught me patience. I do know someone homeschooled from kindergarten through high school. She accomplished a lot, although similar to me as well. One thing she lacks is patience though. She ironically would never homeschool her child as well. That is because she wants her "me time" and she's not patient. On the flip side I'm patient bc I had to be. We both function in society well.
My son for example is super high energy and loves school ironically. I had all these expectations of home schooling. He listens better around his peers, loves his teacher, and loves learning. So even though I initially assumed I would homeschool I'm more or less following my child and his needs.
School is designed to teach students to function in society. That is true. But it also teaches kids how to respect other adults. Not being a doormat is important (definitely not something I worry about with my strong willed son).
As far as failing, no person wants to fail. Obviously a parent would fix the problem with homeschooling, but kids don't always like that either. Because it's smothering as well.
As far as the morales of schools that can really depend on your area and of course the times are crazy. In my middle school class we had a debate on abortion. Only 1/20 agreed with abortion being correct. She argued its better for the environment and choice of the woman. Come to find out later her mom was taking them away from their dad bc he was extremely abusive including rape. So again I still learned from people I didn't agree with and it gave me more compassion in that sense.
I had a couple amazing teachers, quite a lot of terrible teachers unfortunately. But I learned from them all. That's the beauty of life.
So I plan on looking at my kid's situation, the situation of the school and the people going there before making my homeschooling decision official. Of course you can always change your mind if it's not a good fit for your family.

I used to watch a lot of your pregnancy/baby/toddler content, and I'm glad I didn't unsubscribe when you took a YT hiatus because I would LOVE to keep watching you! I was homeschooled, and I will be homeschooling. I think that covid really normalized homeschool. In my opinion, public school kids are weirdos 😂 they need so much attention from people and feel like they need to believe like everyone else or something is wrong with them. High school is toxic, and some stranger has such influence on your kids, raising them to believe what the world does. Homeschool is better because no one cares about your kids like you do, and school is full of people trying to fit some mold. My husband was public schooled and he has had so much confidence issues that I never had, I don't care what anyone thinks of me, and that's is such a great feeling

some of my children were struggling so much at school they were up to a few years behind... over and over I asked the school for assistance for them and it was continually denied so each day I put them in knowing I was throwing them into deep water watching them struggle to tread water while I was holding the life saver buoy handing it to the school asking them to throw the buoy out to them and help them.... They did not! Now they are home I have the buoy and I do not sit back watching my child drown helplessly! Granted its a huge adjustment with a large family and little ones to care for but they are no longer drowning AMEN
you are not sacrificing your life you're just adjusting your priorities
Hi I was a teacher (who now homeschools my kids) and I’ll tell you exactly why that is. It’s because we as teachers are told that the kids that are pretty far behind, we shouldn’t bother with those kids we need to get to the kids that are just a little bit behind so that they can get up to speed and raise the test scores for the school. This is sad but true. They literally told us in meetings that if a child is two or three grade levels behind not to bother, trying to get them up, but instead to focus our energy on kids that were just a little bit behind so that they could past the standardized tests and make the school look good.

This is very helpful. I look forward to hearing how it’s going in a year or two! We homeschooled two years and then honestly I needed a break and my youngest needed to learn from someone else. But now I just can’t see continuing with public school. It just goes against the nature of childhood and curiosity and health! 😭🙏🙏 Considering going back to homeschool, and this video helped nudge me in that direction.

I work as a teacher assistant and if I ever decided to have more kids I would absolutely homeschool. Our kids come from a range of different environments and upbringing from very affluent to poverty backgrounds. Either way, there are kids on both sides (children of Doctors and children of working class with poverty income and who don’t see their mom’s during the week and who’s dad might be in jail) who are either coddled, given everything they want, abused etc and in turn it shows in their laziness and unwillingness to do work w/out throwing a tantrum, talking back, rolling their eyes, ignoring the teacher and myself included and even worse is when their behavior gets out of hand and it put other kids safety at risk!! These children are only k-1 kids !! I would not send my kids to public for these reasons alone!! Plus we inside all day and running around managing emotions and behaviors we barely have time to teach what my teacher plans. There is not enough resources to manage the behaviors and parents who don’t care or are too busy to raise their kids it is difficult. The kids who are very independent are thriving. I feel bad for them that they have to put up with nonsense. It feels like a zoo sometimes. Wild animals. Please teach your children mannerisms and how to act in school, at the table, and have courtesy for others. Saying TY and YW and excuse me is imperative.

We were going to homeschool from the beginning but started thinking we might let her try kindergarten because it’s really just like a play date. Once this entire “situation” occurred, we decided we are 100% homeschooling.
We are so happy with our decision especially as the 5-11 year olds are now considered capable of consenting to medical procedures on their own.
Public school ruined my ability to enjoy learning. It took me years after school to develop my passion for learning. My daughter just turned 4 and is already writing letters and sentences. Not perfectly of course, but this is all she focuses on because right now it is her passion.

We are now home schooling our four kids. We are on our second year. We started because of mandates, but it was always a dream of mine to home school. It is tiring, but I have also grown as a person.
I want my kids to be weirdos not socialized to be bullies, specialized with prematurely lost innocence. The “socialization” is TERRIBLE! It’s traumatic for children in my opinion.
I love how honest you are about your schooling journey! I agree with so much you said. Traditional schooling is created to make more worker-bees, and it often fails children and puts unnecessary stress and anxiety on others. I highly encourage you to look into Montessori! Either in an actual school or doing Montessori homeschooling, it sounds like it could be an option for you. My view of education and traditional schooling changed so much after I discovered Montessori. So may of the points you made are key factors in Montessori education. It encourage children to find a love for learning, subjects can be explored during longer work periods, movement is a core part of learning, and there is little to no homework or quizzing. I hope you find the method that works best for your family! Just want to put it out there if you haven't looked into it!
You choose what kind of school your kid goes to. My kid is going to a German school in Miami. They teach you to question authority, they don't expect young kids to stay in their chair and be perfect worker bees. This isnt your typical German school or American school. About payment. Her school is a charter school and is free.

Really love this video 👏 I started wanting to home school once I had my son. Many of my peers and family, actually have had many discussions the past 5+ years about how we disagree with how the school system is set up.
I totally agree with homeschooling but I think there are some misconceptions about schools. It's more about our society in general than just schools failing. Parents used to send their children to school prepared to learn and the family was to teach respect and values with the school supplementing these things. In the past 30 years or so the family unit has become weak and schools have been asked to step up and do things they were never suppose to do. If you are a caring and responsible parent, I don't think you realize what kind of things are going on in schools. Children are there who have been exposed to violence, disrespect, sexual molestation and exposure to sexual content they are not prepared for. My neighbor is an elementary principal and just 2 days ago a first grade girl completely trashed a classroom, throwing things like chairs at other students and the pregnant teacher. The teacher called for help but could not touch the student to subdue her or she could have lost her job. About a month ago this principal had a mother and aunt in his office who became angry and started screamiing and cussing and throwing stuff off his desk. If you don't work in schools then you have no idea. These are not isolated incidences and happen in schools in cities and small towns. I'm certainly not saying there are not bad teachers, administrators, poor programs, etc but I just want people to know the other side of the story.

I love this Haley. Thank you. I know people kinda get in one camp or the other with this issue. There is however no argument for the fact that, as a whole, the system doesn't benefit a large percentage of children. I used to teach and then when I had children ( which happen to be kids of color too... yes that can sadly also be a "negative" factor in the type of education one receives) I knew I wanted more for them. Ironically having one primary income ( I still supplement by tutoring) actually taught me what is actually vital for my family's stability.There are sacrifices that we have made , yes. We could make a lot more money and have a lot more things.But the time I have to pour into my children, through our culture and rich heritage, and the opportunity to let them just be children, instead of just good little test takers is priceless. John Taylor Gotto's book is a must read!
