My bedroom is what I like to call “An Organized Mess” To others it probably looks like a mess, I always know exactly where everything is and have the things that I use the most out.
Somehow, I can relate. As long as nobody touches anything, I know exactly where certain things are. Like that book I borrowed, or the specific shirt among the pile. That being said, once my family moved something, it'll take me ages to find it
Saaaaammeee! I can find everything in less than 10 seconds but if my parents clean up the room, then I have to waste a painful lot of time finding what I need and "reorganizing" everything
As an adult, particularly a married adult, I feel like these principles can extend to the rest of the house. Each room has a function, but my and my spouse's fingerprints are all over! Our identities, interest, priorities, and habits are on display throughout the house, for anyone to see.
That's what I was thinking. As a married adult, this applies to every room. When it comes to the bedroom it's also different because it is a shared sanctuary space. Personalities are not as apparent in the bedroom as with someone living alone or in a dorm room.
Yeah, I'm totally the "stuff things under bed" type and that made me understand that it's OK to do so, since I'm more confortable in my daily mess (but I don't want other to know have to bother with it lol). XD
"Your bedroom is you mind's physical home." I love this, and it helped me realize why I feel uncomfortable in my room that I haven't gotten the chance to make my own yet, thanks ^^
Kinda same. I have my own room but my parents dont allow me to buy new furniture because everything still functions. I am not happy with my room, but theres no need to renovate it because soon I am moving out anyway ^^
My mom didn't allow my brother and I to have many things in our room, but she gave us our own little living rooms on the second floor that we could decorate and fill with clutter as much as we want. She believed that the bedroom was only for sleep and should be free of clutter and airy during the day and dark and cozy at night. I like it because I get a bedroom like this but I also get my own safe space
My room isn’t messy, it’s just organized chaos. I know where everything is and put things where they’re supposed to go, but if someone else went into my room they’d probably think it’s a mess

I’m a maximalist, every meaningful trinket to me must be displayed like a museum on walls and cover the shelves. A beautiful collage of art and themes. It’s my sanctuary. Let’s not talk about my closet though
SAME! it’s organized and cluttered and styled and pretty and colourful. I’m the same with my closet too. My room makes me happy and that’s all that matters. My family doesn’t understand how I can live in such a cluttered space but I think it’s just how my brain works lol
Same here, a rock i found on ghe side of the road? Its being displayed. A painting I spent 6 hours on? Its right next to the rock. Most of the stuff is things ive made. I also have a little display on one of the shelves in my closet thats entirely covered with things. I love having things, no matter how big or small it just makes me so happy.
I took my closet curtains off so it’s an extension of my Maximalism, the curtain made too plain a space. It helps me keep it looking nice bc I cant hide it :)
I hate to be that person but it's collage, not colleague. Colleague means someone who you work with, and collage means a type of art haha. I can relate though, I love displaying all my trinkets in my room.
I just redid my bedroom, and I’m so glad I did. I got rid of half my possessions, and I know have a bed with no space under it and I don’t have any drawers to avoid clutter.
My bedroom is a mess because depression. But I’m slowly getting it to how I want it. Kinda hard because I can’t really buy much and have with work with what I have, which most of it is no longer my style. Maybe one day my room will look how I want it to
Yup. Sometimes our spaces haven’t caught up with who we are. And that’s okay. It can be difficult to even have the energy to fold and put clothes away... let alone get out of bed when things are tough. Speaking from experience growing up in an abusive situation. You are so right about the changing of style piece. I’m in a similar boat. Yaaay! That is great you are steadily getting your space how you like it. Go you! Hope it turns into the space you feel at peace in 🤍
I always reccomend thrift stores to find cute inexpensive items. I used to work at one and found the most amazing things plus my house is almost completely furnished from second hand stores or even free pile scores, see if your area has one! I've been exactly where you are and I feel that having your environment under control definitely can hell relieve some negative headspace. Be extra kind to yourself I wish u well.
1) Identity Claims 2:14 2) Behavioral Residue 3:18 3) Thoughts + Feelings Regulators 4:32 The video was so nice and the animation was so cute. Anyways I had some free time so I made these timestamps! Feel free to use them!
I love seeing my bedroom tidy, it relaxes me. When it's a mess it means thet I feel stressed. I have noticed it since 2 months and i couldn't explain it. This video is really interesting and helpful for me
So this video hits home, no pun intended. When she talks about your bedroom having a lack of decor or feeling regulators, it's probably because you are still trying to sort out your emotional needs. I'm going through a divorce, and for all the years my spouse and I lived in our home, I never once decorated the bedroom. I can 100% can attest that it was a sign of emotional needs not being sorted out. I always felt deep down there was something seriously wrong with the relationship and therefore I couldn't figure out how to simply decorate a space to reflect my husband and I. My subconscious was trying to tell me that my relationship was in bad shape and therefore all of the energy I would have put into making my bedroom (and other rooms) pretty went into trying to fix a sinking ship. It may be a big jump to conclusions, but that's what I got from this video that just makes sense.
My husband is a minimalist and likes things to look nice and organized; however I am a collector due to childhood trauma and don't care what things look like or if they're organized as long as they're accessible. Yes, we argue sometimes, but it's never serious 🤣
i have never met someone who would say they are a collector and values accessibility over organization. I never had a way to put it into words but i feel the SAME way. you say yours stems from trauma? i’m interested in the theory- would you mind sharing further?
You guys are my husband and I. I’m very neat and organized person who loves structure. Him on the other hand takes clothing items off anywhere. Sometimes I want to pull my hair out.
My bedroom is also the storage room. My parents work in commerce and it was the only room in the house with enough space to store the products. The furniture is improvised, most of it was found or won, some even built with parts from others. I don't like my room, but it's the place I have to sleep. Not even my computer is something I like, I got it after my father fix it (I believe it is about ten years old). But I'm grateful for what I have, because it's all I have.
I was a bit sad looking at the comments because so many people have a room of their own. I live in a 1 BHK with 5 people & my sweet doggo, so I've never had a room of my own. I sleep on bare wood. For years I've only had a phone, until last year my mom got me an expensive laptop of her choice. I'd have much preferred something I could use for digital art, etc. I'm very grateful for it, but most of my stuff doesn't feel mine. One day I'll have a room that feels mine. And I'll have the space to discover myself like I haven't ever. I too, am very glad to have what I have though. If you read this far, thank you
I feel similarly about my bedroom. I share it with my husband, and it's rather messier than I'd like, with hardly any space to just hang out. I'm never in our bedroom except for sleeping. We also don't yet have the money to make it look nice, though I'm hopeful for an improvement, since we are moving soon!
Hey! I live in the laundry room! So I share your feeling. I don't like my room either because sometimes gets flooded and I've lost stuff due to water but well, as you said, at least we have a room, right? I sometimes get permission to sleep in another room cause it can get pretty cold from time to time. I would just recommend to raise some money and try to separate the products in your room from your part of the space. I did that, got some curtains and did some decoration. It doesn't look as ugly as it was before. Take care ❤
From my experience, a messy room can also be a manifestation of depression, a lack of motivation to keep it clean. Keeping your space clean is good for mental health. That's something I still need to work on, especially when I'm dealing with low energy and motivation. I still have some nice things decorating my room like plushies and such. I especially love my black cat plushie, it's a knock-off squishmallow and it's so soft. I like to hug and talk to it to make myself happy. ^_^
when she talked about what you hide away im sure most people thought of journals and "adult entertainment" and i did to but when she mentioned by hiding it you may be trying to get it out of your life all together and that really made me think about my mental health and how, even subconsciously, by hiding away my bad habits my brain is telling me i have the power to stop them, and thats really sweet.
Meanwhile me over here hiding away my makeup and girl clothes cause of internalized shame from bullying and other factors. Yet for some reason I refuse to put my wigs out of eye shot from the door.. Human brains are so weird
Honestly, I haven't redone my bedroom ever, so its basically just a room full of my changing personality. Its kind of crazy, I have bright blue walls from when I was nine, most of my books from when I was 10, my bedsheets from when I was 10, and then pictures and decorations on my wall from age 11 and up. I almost haven't wanted to change anything in the fear of losing a part of myself.
For the majority of my life, I had to share a room with my sister. This meant we could only have designated regions of the small room to ourselves. I had no control or creativity that could show off my identity. I've been living in my own room in my new house for about 6 months now. I actually feel the most at home because I've transformed it into my creativity cave where I do rest myself and feel the most at ease.
Lmao , actually even my room is pink and stuff but My mom’s planning to repaint it to tropical peach before my bday…..hope COVID doesn’t interfere in my hopes (what I mean is…if there’s a lockdown then the painters can’t come and my room can’t get painted)
So I’m guessing you are either a very cutesy and vulnerable person and the goth look is a sort of disguise to either stand out, fit in, or hide your vulnerability, or your just too lazy to change your room from your childish pink phase.
"big picture oriented vs detail oriented" is something i had never considered about my trouble keeping my room tidy, i alwayse thought of it as me being easily distracted or lacking motivation to do secondary tasks, but that makes so much sense. i think that was an important thing for me to learn! thanks
I recently bought a new bright blue bedsheet cover for my bed and it immediately made me feel uplifted versus the black cover I had for a year. Coming from a frugal person, don’t hesitate to invest in your own room for your mental health, even a new plushie or new blanket will do wonders for you :)
You just inspired me to buy the new bedspread I’ve been departing on buying for so long because it’s kind of expensive. Even though it’s just a blanket I know it’ll make me feel more at peace in my room lol
@@paytongrey8558 Im so glad you decided to make the investment! It really makes the bed stand out. And since then I added a wall tapestry in my favorite color and it really added character to my side of the room ✨🤗 get that blanket you deserve it!💓
I agree! A few years ago I bought what would become my favorite bedsheet ever. It was a bit expensive, but now I deeply enjoy when, after having to change it to wash it, I get to put it on my bed again. The color just makes me so happy even though it does not fit with the color code I have in my room xd
I love how they put it into words! my room is all white & there is nothing on my walls because posters and decor make me overwhelmed. Everyone comments on how bland it is but now that I think about it, it does mirror who I am as a minimalist! :)
My bedroom says that I am neat but at the same time quite disorganized. I like to keep track of things and I have a bunch of different styles all through out my room. I love your videos! Keep up the good work.
If I could afford it, my room would be so beautiful!! I can picture it in my mind! I've done my best with thrift store things but I sure wish I could just pick out exactly what I want! But I try to practice gratitude for what I do have, roof over my head, food and companionship. 🙏💜
I like "organized chaos" I see. The rest of the house is neat and tidy, but my bedroom walls are full of posters, I have every surface covered with collectibles ...this was very interesting to hear. Oddly enough, my room is where everyone feels the most relaxed and at home in.💜💙♥️
this was awful convenient timing considering i was just struggling to draw a bedroom for one of my characters... definitely gave me some ideas of how to design it considering their personality!
I like that I have a lot of my own artwork on my walls, not only is it things that I like but it's also direct pieces of my personality because usually when I make art I tap into an emotion. This was such a cool video cause I've never thought of it this way. What I also found funny was I have a handful of comfort stuffed animals and soft blankets that I would probably shove under my bed because a lot of people don't see that side of me 😓
I’ve always wanted a gothic canopy bed with dark curtains and candles in my room. I also wanted lots of flowers and girly decor as well. Idk what that says about me but if I had plenty of cash I’d have an epic looking bedroom🖤🌹🖤

This is me 100%. I designed my room to be clutter free so that I have a "literal room to breathe". And I put mood lighting to calm my anxiety as well as putting my things behind the cover of drawers / cupboards / cabinets.
@@radit8224 Yep! My bedroom is my escape room. I also have mood lights, but lights give me anxiety too 😅 I can only turn on a dim, warm-colored lamp in the corner of my room. It's tragic lol.
Thanks for this comment. I thought "empty" and wondered what that said about me. I only keep clothes, a small basket with make up/body products, about 12 necklaces, my 7 pairs of shoes, a mirror and a teddy bear. It's not very pretty or cute but it's restful.
This was actually a cool insight and makes sense. I get extremely stressed in clutter so my bedroom is kept neat & tidy at all times & always with a made bed unless sleeping. Most items I display are on a shelf dedicated to that that have some plants, beach location jars & shells & stuff that keep me peaceful & I guess "beachy" is how I want to be perceived & than my bedside tables whatever two books I'm reading & my journal.
Man, wish I could be like that. I have green walls and paint splatters, along with the nice air freshener scent of cat crap and vomit. There's clothes on my floor and my bedsheets don't match and my life is a living hell, lol. I can never be neat no matter how hard I try, and I have a bunch of bottles on my table im supposed to be cleaning, lol. My makeup vanity is also just the princess table/box i got when I was 7 covered with a stained sheet, and it's SO unorganized
This cleared up some confusing things about my room. I purposely “got into” k-pop just as a lark during the pandemic and it’s been very enjoyable. I felt reluctant putting any decorations from young groups in my room but it does reflect good times I’ve had, so it shouldn’t be embarrassing. I’m leaving my desk calendar in place. Another unusual thing i have is a wall display with small shelves of nail polish. People say it looks like a nail salon. I think that’s supposed to make me want to take it down, but it doesn’t. When I need human contact, I go get my nails done and feel much better. I love choosing among all the beautiful colors. At home when I’m feeling well and have a busier life, I do my own nails. The polish lasts a long time, so even just the enjoyment of arranging them and looking at the teals, purples, reds, raspberries, and magentas, etc is pleasing to me. Also, I don’t have any candles or music set up. I don’t know how to self-sooth, so right again i’m on a path of figuring things out. and last, i spend 99% of my time in my bedroom and i better understand that i designed it to be that way, even tho the desktopand game system and bigger screen are in a different room - all in an effort to get myself out of bed. i love the graphics. esp the bunny room. i wish my pet was that perfectly housed
“Describe your room in three words” Cluttered. Messy. Silent. My everyday battle with depression gets so bad that I would leave my room like what I described for long periods of time. I either never have the motivation to do most things OR I sometimes do but it’s a “spur in the moment” feeling.
Big change comes with small habits. Looking at a messy room can feel very overwhelming, and we often associate “cleaning” with “using all of my energy to sling this room back into shape” in sporadic points of time. It is the meaning of cleaning which should be given a new meaning: such as taking a bowl out once we have finished cereal, tossing our pants in the bin once we have taken them off, or putting the book back once we are done with it. I know it may sound simple, but keeping yourself consistent with such small habits will domino into something big! Another good way of looking at it is dishes: if we rinse a dish once we are done with it and place it in the dishwasher each time, we don’t have to look at the gigantic load of dishes with loathing. 5 seconds per dish we toss in, makes up for 30 minutes that we would have to use to wash the load. I have had a borderline unlivable room since I was a child. Clothes were literally in mountains that you could land on safely from a long fall, trash literally surrounding my bed and I left only a small space for me to sleep. I’m not ashamed to say this, because it was the way it was. When I changed my attached meaning to cleaning and began making habit out of the small things, everything fell into place. I now keep a very tidy room, which looks the complete opposite of how it was (only 2 years ago!) it is very much doable. It’s all about the mind attachments to words, and awareness of small habits
@@jenniferlawrence9473 we live in inequitable capitalist systems where getting out of poverty is extremely difficult and not fully within our control. So it's kinda messed up to tell people in poverty that they just need to "manifest" better
Even with just a few dollars, you can print a handful of photos and get some cheap frames from the dollar store to decorate. Or make something if you’re artistic at all! You could craft some printed curtains out of an old bedsheet if you have any sewing supplies handy too. There’s a lot you can do with little to no money :)
lol i share a room with my sister and I'm too shy to share my interests even with my parents, because of my subconscious fear that they always judge me

"You don't want to show people your disorganized room" Me who never fixes their bed and has things in random places: 👁️👄👁️ Edit: Thanks for the likes, guys! I appreciate it ^^
My room is a hot mess. About once every few months or so I get 1 or 2 garbage bags and just clear off my desk. Aside from that, the clothes I actually frequently wear are always either on top of the dresser, on the floor, or on top of an old plastic tub I have filled with old stuffed animals from my childhood
ah my bedroom is my sanctuary, when sharing a room it was very girly and minimalist due to my sister. now, it is very green and my walls are covered top to bottom, knickknacks, artwork, pictures, cool records, plants, vintage little items. everything. i have a canopy on my bed, and the bed itself is FULL of blankets pillows and stuffies. this is my home, and it is so cozy 🫶 i’m also a part of the “no big light” crew, my vintage lamps light up my LIFE 🫶🫶🫶 loved this video, made me much more confident about my space :)
I feel safe & wellness in my room. I have a stained glass lamp that glows 2 cozy night lights. I have butterflies on my wall that symbolize my freedom to soar to new beginnings. My quilt print is pretty & has leaves or flower prints on it. It symbolizes my love for nature. I see photos of my children each morning & when I go to sleep. They are the greatest loves of my life. ❤️❤️
I think the state of my room is a perfect example of me. I have lots of things given to me, that people think relate to me or are things I enjoy, but they are really just things that bring them happiness and have little to do with my own interests. For example, I have lots of sports trophies from my dad, books from my mom, and small trinkets from my sisters; each things that they find joy in and assume I do too. I am a very empathetic person and generally sacrifice my own needs and wants for the happiness of others, which is exactly what my room shows: things I do for others. Other than that, I'm detail oriented cause my room is spotless. Lol
@@karengerber8390 Not necessarily, but I do find some joy in others experiencing joy. There are some things in my room that are purely me, such as my technology (PC, monitor, peripherals) or the various light fixtures I set up and take constant care of. Although, I don't generally express my needs or interests because I tend to prioritize others above myself.
I feel like gifts should always be something that you enjoy 50% and the other person enjoys 50%. Makes it personal. You're absolutely right in feeling the way you do, but I hope you sometimes delve deeper into personal gifts you get(?) Like I dunno, people recommend music to me that I don't really like, but on days when I'm feeling up for it I give it a try and sort through it to see if I can find what they were tryna communicate. It's nice sometimes. But as you said, you sacrifice your needs for others a lot, so more than likely you've already done these things. I hope you find your own niche more and that people understand your niche and pay attention to your needs rather than just their own. Take care 💗
@@Komorebiki I hear what you are saying. Unfortunately, the longer I've lived, the more I've come to not enjoy things. I'm 19 now, so hopefully that turns around eventually..? I guess at some point I decided that it was better for me to just forget about myself and focus on others. Sometimes I try to do things for myself, but I end up feeling guilty and have to find a reason that benefits others before I do it. I partly think that the reason I haven't gotten into my own things is because of my helpful nature, meaning that I find people who I can help as opposed to people who can help me. I feel like my life would be meaningless if I wasn't doing something to make others happy. Anyways, thank you for the thoughtful words.

since a bedroom is SO personal, I don't really understand the pressure to share a room with a partner. As much as I love being in the same room as my SO, I always long for my own space to retreat to when I need to focus, rest, or recharge. But I've been questioned and judged for having or wanting my onw space apart from my SO. I just think the expectation that partners MUST share a room is unfair.
My room had sky-high bookshelves filled with stuff that I never laid a finger on. When I was suffering from depression, I found subconscious comfort sitting amidst those bookshelves- they helped me hide my anxiety. I didn't realize that until today.

I never heard of maximalist but I do kinda consider myself a minimalist.

This comment explained my situation perfectly. I hope you get your room just the way you like it soon :))
Yup. Sometimes our spaces haven’t caught up with who we are. And that’s okay. It can be difficult to even have the energy to fold and put clothes away... let alone get out of bed when things are tough. Speaking from experience growing up in an abusive situation.
You are so right about the changing of style piece. I’m in a similar boat.

this made me kinda realize how emotionally connected i am to my room and why i should take better care of it
So this video hits home, no pun intended.
I am so sorry to hear about that my mom's parents are divorced and it is really hard for her

If you read this far, thank you
So you're basically me.
Hey your lucky that you even HAVE a computer because..... 😅

THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING

*me looking around my pink, cutesy anime room*
*looks at my very goth and dark looking self*
My room is where color and cute things go. It's private. However, how I dress is 99% black because it's calming and not vulnerable.
As a kid I was/is the tousled opposite of goths but we got along because our mutual interest was anime
@@zanderblankenship3849 neither, i just like both styles, i just moved here in September and I'm not cutesy and vulnerable

It was a bit expensive, but now I deeply enjoy when, after having to change it to wash it, I get to put it on my bed again. YES I CAME STRAIGHT TO THE COMMENTS WHEN I SAW THAT
This cleared up some confusing things about my room.
“Describe your room in three words”
Cluttered. Messy. Silent.
My everyday battle with depression gets so bad that I would leave my room like what I described for long periods of time. I either never have the motivation to do most things OR I sometimes do but it’s a “spur in the moment” feeling.
Exactly same for me
Get well soon and hugs🤗😍and love❤
Yeah, mine too
Big change comes with small habits.

I literally only clean when my mom makes me lol
My room is a mess
@@Someone-km3mx same , dang all the people in this comment section so far are so Hecker relatable
@WISDOM ABRAHAMSON Are you referring to me or yourself? I'm just checking lmao
ah my bedroom is my sanctuary, when sharing a room it was very girly and minimalist due to my sister. now, it is very green and my walls are covered top to bottom, knickknacks, artwork, pictures, cool records, plants, vintage little items. everything. i have a canopy on my bed, and the bed itself is FULL of blankets pillows and stuffies. this is my home, and it is so cozy 🫶 i’m also a part of the “no big light” crew, my vintage lamps light up my LIFE 🫶🫶🫶 loved this video, made me much more confident about my space :)
My bedroom is basically my only safe haven where I can be totally myself, which means I hate it when my family just come in without knocking.

@Evelyn star ..ok
thought i was the only one lmao yes
@Evelyn star That was... a mouthful. 😅
Ahhh memories~
@Evelyn star I’m not gonna ask 😂
I spend very little time in my room other than just going to bed. I spend most of my time, when at home, at my computer desk.
Lol
@@adriannelson6039 Indeed.
Do those items you listed spark joy for you? Or are you being driven out?

The fact that there are so many references in the videos, just makes me feel better
My room had sky-high bookshelves filled with stuff that I never laid a finger on. When I was suffering from depression, I found subconscious comfort sitting amidst those bookshelves- they helped me hide my anxiety. I didn't realize that until today.
