In 1998 my late father bought a new sea ray signature 210 bow rider. My dad passed away 8 years ago and I continue to maintain it and run it about every weekend in the summer with my family. 500 hours on it and can personally attest to the build quality how it’s help up over the years.

Hey Capt. Matt!, Just wanted to thank you for all the videos and advice! I ended up buying a 1992 Sea Ray 200BR with the 5.7. It only had 217 hours on it and the floor was rock solid over every square inch. It was always stored inside and there wasn't even a stain in the ski locker carpet. It runs like a champ and has that classic beauty. Thanks again!

I really appreciated this one, people who ride with us really like it because like you said it rides really smooth. The brochure I have from 1964 says they were built 35% heavier than other boats in its class for better stability and smoother ride. I’m trying to rebuild it in my spare time I really like this boat.😁😁👍👍

I bought a used 2008 175 sport 2 years ago which was very well maintained by previous owner. It's such a great boat especially compared to a friend's 175 bayliner. The Kia to mercedes analogy is spot on, even in a small runabout. It's absolutely solid even in some moderate chop. Not big enough for sections of the big lake (Superior) but for smaller lakes it is awesome. Will be upsizing in the next couple of years. Love the boat and the brand. Great video!

Much appreciated. I'm a Sea Ray fan, owning a 2000 Signature 230. It's on Lake George in the Adirondacks, and is a perfect entry level boat for this 32 mile long lake. My next boat will be a 260 Sundancer, when I can find one. There are no good used boats out there in my area.

  • @cheapme1850
    @cheapme1850 3 года назад +1

As far as the big lakes go, the mid to late ‘80’s and early 90’s 250, 268, 270 Sundancers are some of the best boat out there. So well built that you still see dozens, if not hundreds of them no matter which of the Great Lakes you boat on. I bought my 1989 250 SA back in 1996 with the 260 Merc/Alpha and I still have it and haven’t had any major issues. These boats were perfect for the typical blue collar boater because they’re easy to maintain and pretty much bulletproof, plus very affordable in the used market and still sturdy enough to handle the big water and plenty enough room for a family.

Every Sea Ray I've ever been on has been a super nice solid boat. The build quality is always exceptional. My only gripe with a Sea Ray is to me they always seem to have just enough power. They are not under powered, but they definitely will never be accused of being over powered. If I ever decided to get a cabin cruiser Sea Ray would be one of the first choices for me. Chris-Craft and Tollycraft would also be on the list depending on their drives.

@@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon i looked up the specs on the 19 and 22 ft pachanga. They are in the same weight range as my boat. Mine falls in between at 20.5 ft and the weight is 2250 lbs. The 19' pachanga is 2200 lbs. And the 23 is 2900 lbs. Considering that the pachanga has a far greater deadrise at the bow of the boat and I'm guessing at least 16" more of depth in the hull. My cuddy is 20". From what I have been able to find out the pachanga has about
36" of headroom. That amounts to a lot of extra fiberglass in terms of square inches. The Donzi Hornet 3 weighs in at 3150 and has a similar hull design to the pachanga with a slightly narrower beam. Also the 22 had an option of a 454 will a alpha outdrive. With that combination it seems to have been able to run a solid 62 mph. Pretty impressive. The hull design definitely is better suited for rough water. I don't think that you could go wrong with a Sea Ray that has been kept up. The quality of the upholstery always seemed to be a step above the competition as well.

I'm in the market for a Sea Ray 170. I found a 1994 that I fell in love with. It is immaculate. The boat looks like it was built yesterday right down to the vinyl seating that doesn't have a blemish anywhere. The whole boat has been well maintained including the motor. It comes with a Monster Tower, cockpit and bow covers, new stereo system, and a Shoreland'r trailer also in pristine condition. The price is where I want to be. After I found this boat I saw a RUclips video of a dealer selling a 1997 and he said that there is no wood in the stringers or hull that it's solid fiberglass. Do you know this to be true? I know the Sea Ray encapsulated wood structures are solid as you said but if I could buy a boat without wood in it's structure I think I would lean toward the 1997. Thoughts?

I’m 6’2 looking at a cruiser what would you suggest for year and model used 280 290 300 310 330 I really don’t want over 33’ this would mostly be my wife and Me using it ? I will be boating the Mississippi River by Dubuque IA

IMO, the biggest change in design was the elimination of the side deck beginning in '99 in the small cruisers under 25' ... so the only access to the bow was through the windshield. Really hate that. When cruising with canvas up in my 230 Weekender, it's nice to access the bow through a zipper in the side curtain instead of unbuttoning the top canvas and exposing the deck to rain. Not worth the extra few inches of cabin space, imo

I love Sea Ray but I have to say they haven’t made a good looking bow rider since 2011. The new ones are ugly, you have to spend a ton of money to get the SLX and the sport boat line looks cheap, like they should be sold at Walmart. The best years in my opinion was the 83 Seville 19’ and the 1999 to 2011 the 19’ to 22 foot models all looked sweet! Now they suck ass and I would never buy one the way they look now. I’d say the best looking boats on the market today are the Regal LS4 and LS6 models. Also the Bryant Calandra 23.5” is a beautiful boat. I’d much rather have one of those sweet looking boats vs the sea ray with the ugly top lines. Just my opinion that is obviously correct!

180 good boat, very small; be great on real small lake. Garageable
    185. Better. Get the 4.3 model and full size engine cover Also Garageable
200 sport Get the 5.0 motor and a full size engine cover / sun pad ( my current boat)
205 sport Same All sport boats this era no bolstered seats. Ugh
All SLX boats are fire Carpet, smart craft electronics and nicer seats with bolsters
    Sundancers.
    260 too small get a 280
    280. Get twin 4.3 over the single motor
290 Amber Jack. Odd boat. They did not make many. It’s very niche Based on the 280
    300. Great boat
    320 bigger great boat
340 is beast Bring your check book for gas Twin 8.1’s
360 get the diesels. Do not get the gas. It will eat you out of house and home
360 Sedan Bridge spacious boat. Excellent. Very tall. Get Diesels again

On another note... we had a 2003 220 bowrider and it was solid. We had the main waterline going to the engine come off one time and it filled the engine compartment up with water and killed the battery but, the swim platform never went under water. Mainly the ones that pertains to my boats or the boats I would like and am satisfied with the amount of info that you have on the subjects. I've watched a lot of the bowrider and pontoon videos because I have or had them. I would like to see more center console content. It seems like the center consoles are the new best thing, both fiberglass and aluminum. I have seen them on the rivers and lakes that I run and of course out in Galveston Bay. On the lakes I've even seen people tubing behind them. I'm very interested in the excel and xpress aluminum 22'-24' cc and the 25'-27' fiberglass from an affordable but reliable maker. I like the Mako boats because they are a Bass Pro and Cabelas product so they are easy to find and get serviced but, any other hard-core boater will tell you they're bottom of the line just like suntracker. What are your thoughts on those picks??

When you offer a product priced at the six figure range with some nearing or at seven figures there is absolutely no reason not to use high quality materials. The marginal cost for higher quality cannot be that major difference. A boat costing $350,000 rather than $340,000 cannot hurt sales that much, and frankly quality sells, and a cheap feeling at these price points is in my opinion … toxic. Use the stainless, better resins and alternate materials. Anyone who balks at a few bucks more a month for better quality and reliability should not be on the water or move down a few feet in length.
