God bless you for this. I’m struggling to homeschool 5 kids under 11 as a SAHM my eldest has learning disabilities, public school isn’t an option because we live out in the country and our only school is 74% failing. I’m so overwhelmed and I can’t afford to pay 8k a year per kid for a private school.
You sure have your hands full! I hope it helped. The other option might be k12 public online school - everything is free and you have teachers etc all online - you might even get to use a 504/IEP. www.k12.com/
Thank you for this video! There is barely any information about this program anywhere online, but it looks very promising for this coming school year. Does the parent account connect with multiple students or will I need to set up and pay for a separate parent account for each child? Is there access to a full file of printables per grade level? I reviewed the daily curriculum for preK and Kindergarten and want to print all the worksheets at once rather than daily.
Glad it was helpful! Yes - One Parent account connected to multiple student accounts - I did that with my 4 kids. I think printables are per grade and per assignment... it's been a while and they made many updates. I don't know. you can check it out for free first.
I cant get any of the logs to come up for spelling or PE... This curriculum has been a headache this week trying to figure out, and i feel like my kids are getting behind with all the time I've wasted trying to email DK12 and researching how to use it.
I'm not familiar with any of that I'm thinking it might be a benefit of the Parent-Teacher account. Okay so I can give you a better answer I went to my account logged in, yes I have a PTA login and I went to the student dashboard and clicked on a student and then I clicked on PE logs. After that you have to put in the date range and such. If it's not working and it's frustrating and you can't get ahold of them then just maybe start your own Excel spreadsheet until you're able to get them to respond.
Can Discovery 12 be used as just a main curriculum? Or is it more supplemental? I am just trying to figure out which one to use for my 12 year old. I am considering pulling her out of public schools.
Great question Olivia. Yes is can be used as the main curriculum. Find what works for your student. You can adapt and be in control by using this in full, as a guide with supplements, or use this as a supplement. Does that make sense? Let me know if you have other questions.
Hello! The basic is this... Once your child fulfills the Credit requirements... they are done with school! So check your state's homeschool laws discoveryk12.com/homeschool-laws/ see what is a typical or minimum for classes for high school - usually 4 years ELA, 4 years Math, 3 years History/SS, and 3-4 years Science, etc... now if you child wants to go to a specific college, trade school, etc. you can check their requirements. - make a transcript as each class is completed to mastery and go from there. Does that help?
Hello. I just logged in to my Parent Portal to let you know how to do this. I have not done it in years! Log in to your Parent account: discoveryk12.com/pportal/ Scroll down to the second section, it says: Student Dashboard: 2024-2025 | Add/Manage Click "Add/Manage": discoveryk12.com/add-manage-students/ Then that page says: To get set up, you will need to connect your Students Accounts to your Parent/Teacher Account. Follow the instructions on this page. So it looks like you will need the student to have an account.
Very good question if it's not clear. Yes, you are the parent/teacher. You decide on if you grade, how you grade, etc. You decide on the lessons and the intensity etc. You are in control. DK12 is only a free curriculum and resources for Home education / School. There is an option for the PTA - parent teacher account. It is not free but I like it to do the record keeping! Transcripts and more.
You make up your own transcript to document the classes, grades, and credits. You can find many free templates online or low pay or DK12 has the parent teacher account (pta) that is paid for access to your records, to make transcripts, and to make a diploma (which is just a "pretty certificate" that anyone can make, it's the transcript that is most important to document proof of classes taken/completed etc. Hope this helps!
Hello! How wonderful for you to be proactive in your son's education. I had my own work and grading so I cannot honestly help too much on this. If you are using DK12 they should have answer keys. ok I just went to their site to see.... It looks like the Parent-teacher account has a grade book etc. but you can probably just keep your own records. The good news is you are the teacher and you can decide on how to do the scale for your child. You can maybe go to the Facebook group for DK12 and ask other parents of the same grade etc about what they do. Let us know what you decide/do!
Ive been using this for my kindergartener since august. When he starts 1st grade public school next year will this count? Will they let him start 1st grade if i bring proof of him doing discovery k12 for kindergarten?
For 1), public schools have to take in children in their district. Bring in your proof of address (postal mail etc) Their admissions office may give you a form and check list. 2) Most public schools will place your student based on a certain age by a certain date no matter what. 3) If you made a homeschool transcript documenting his classes/grades and possibly have a small portfolio, this may help in the admissions process, too, especially if you are trying to enter him in a grade higher at a younger age. Does this help?
Hello - this is Free curriculum. That is it. The rest it up to you! the classes, the grades. It does have a transcript maker and diploma printer, but you are again responsible for the credits, and adhering to your state's laws for graduation. What grade is your student?

I am a student and have 1 question is there a test such as a standerized end of the year state test that I'll have to take?
No, not from DK12.
Why does it not let me make an account it just says true
I'm sorry, I do not know. Contact them discoveryk12.com/contact/ info@discoveryk12.com
Does it save each days work? Can we go back and see what she did yesterday?
You know that is a good question. discoveryk12.com/how-it-works/

You are responsible for it all - this is a FREE portable for curriculum, making a transcript and printing a diploma.
Do they offer a family account or is it $99 per child?
One family is $99 - it is basically for the parent. The Parent Teacher Account (PTA). Then you connect your children to the parent account.
