I've completely redone 2 boats. My 85 starcraft 16ft open bow. I did the whole interior as a family friendly bass/walleye boat. Also a 1986 thompson 185 cutlass. That was inside and out revamp that turned out great. I need to do this again...lol. any questions just ask!

I used the small cooler for bait storage and there is a small platform under the removable one in front of the driver console that I used for a large cooler. Held more drinks and food for the day and also worked as a platform 👍

Good luck on the restoration. I have a ‘92 Pantera II and absolutely love it, great weeknight derby boat!
I use the small box for tools/ electrical connectors/ electrical tape/ extra boat plugs etc..
The middle “live well” is the cooler and holds ice well.
I would recommend a plug for the live wells behind the seat as the plastic “fill / drain” lever is likely not operating or will fail.
Would love to see a video on the hull repair as well!

Enjoyed your video. I refurbished a 1988 Ranger 364 with 93'Johnson Fast Strike in non-working, but reasonable condition. I know you will be successful in your restoration because you have demonstrated a great attitude and positive attitude and prayer will carry you through this project! Before you get too far into the boat refurb, I recommend running compression test on each cylinder make sure you are good. I'd also replace power pack and both down and up plug in trim actuators (these are relatively cheap and I would always keep 1 spare in boat too). Also, make sure you run the Champion plugs vs. NGK. NG great plugs but my Johnson outboard ran much better with Champ plugs as designed. As another person mentioned I would definitely rewire everything you can and certainly replace all old fuel hoses with the silver ethanol rated hoses. Harbor Freight sells small fiberglass rods to help pull new wire that was a big help for me when I rewired. Also a good idea to pull the fuel tank out and pressure wash and dry and check fuel pickup tube. I also disconnected the VRO oil injection system and mixed 2 stroke oil 50:1 direct in the tank. Felt it was safer, just have to remember to make sure always add oil at fill up. Boat Carpet Central sells Shaw Marine Carpet which is great marine carpet that is easy to install with Roberts 6700 adhesive (buy at Home Depot). This carpet held up 10+ years and still looked great when I recently sold the Ranger to upgrade to a new boat. Last piece of advice I can offer is the angle grinder is your friend! Wish you the best in your restore, you have purchased an iconic boat should hold up well for a long time. Congrats and look forward to future videos on your project.

@tightlines. I had that same boat. A little box you didn’t know about I used it as a day box. The biggest thing to watch for on those older Pantera 2s is the transom. It is still wood wrapped in fiberglass. Mine ended up cracking and getting termites really bad and rotted out

Great buy with a little work you’ll have a awesome boat a little advice from a old bass fisherman 1st on that motor it’s not like the newer ones in the 90s Johnson had problems with some of there oiling systems to make sure yours is not one of them and if it runs it last a long time just take the oiling system off and put a mixing ratio cup in the rear in a zip lock bag and when you put gas in put the amount of oil need for that amount it might smoke a little more but your motor will last longer. 2nd the boat that you have one has the 2 live wells in the back the one up front is for tackle storage and the one holding water even though some of the gel coat is chipped it holding water shows it’s not leaking but I would take a drill when you clean it up and make a small hole in a corner that way if water gets in it will drain straight out. 3rd that jack plate is a awesome buy but I would find out what basscat recommends the motor to be set at and make a mark and leave it unless you get stuck in the mud lol thanks for the video

These builds are great for u tubers. If you have more time then money. You also need tools $$ a place to store indoors and have the skills to do all the repairs. I love watching them. I have owned cheap boats that took years to get everything right. You often flind that parts are no longer available so you spending time and money building custom parts. The money I spent in repairs and tools exceeded the value of the boat. I spent more time fiximg the boat then using it. For my last boat I took home equity loan and spent 50k on a boat. Not having to do any repairs put me on the water more often. The cheap boat probally cost me only a litte less once everything was fixed. Fixed but you still have and old boat. At the time like you this was the only option. Still i actually think a 2 to 5 year old boat is a better financial option. You may have to wait a few years to get the money together. Until then find a buddy with a boat. You will spend the same in and use it more. I want to fish not become a boat repair mechanic. I do understand some people like working on boats more then actully using them. For me I wish I pulled the trigger on a nice boat to begin with.

That is 100% correct. I just got in new bow rollers (comes with the bolt, washers, nut 2 bells and the roller), and the bunk and fender carpet including the proper cut diagram (hint, the bunks are not 2x4's, they are 2x6's ripper down to 4.75, chamfered at that back and angle cut at the front). Their parts department is the best. They can guide you in most things or point you in the right direction. They might even have a wiring diagram for that year p2. They didn't have one for my 88. A lot of guys swap out to the A-10 control panel though.

As long as gel coat isn't separating from the glass you can more than likely sand it until you get to the point it stops flaking off them get paint on gel coat. How much you have to take off and how even you were able to keep it is also variable. Off you took off allot of it gets wavy you'll have to do more block sanding, like when doing prepping for an auto paint job. Time consuming but not hard

The cracking gel coat in the locker is most likely from someone dropping an anchor in and hitting a void. Not a huge deal. I would def remove the carpet and pressure wash it. Then let it dry out. Once it is dry you will know where the problems are

Doesn’t look too bad at all. I’d take the plugs out and squirt a little oil like mystery oil in the cylinders. Make sure the rings are free before you try and turn it over. Shift/Throttle cables not a big deal at all to change out either. Disconnect at one end and operate the cables manually to see if it’s the cable itself or the binnacle/engine.

The boats not in that bad a shape there's nothing wrong with the scrapes on the hull but you had better check that transom better then you did it would probably be smart to take the motor off and the aluminum angle that caps the transom off and look in there cause its older it's got plywood and it rots

Personally I would rewire the entire boat. Given the age and the condition that it's in. I would just replace all your switches and gut out all the harnesses and make up new ones. It's alot easier to do it now than to be out on the water and end up with a potential electrical fire or some intermittent electrical issue that basically strands you out in the middle of the lake or river for that matter. Again with the age and condition of the boat I really wouldn't take the chance. Do now while it's in the garage and all torn apart.

get the engine thoroughly gone through and decide if it will meet provide service and dependability throughout the length of time that you will own the boat/rig. the engine is the most expensive item and the one item that you depend on for safety. as time and all allow get the boat in shape starting with the cabling and wiring again for safety sake. that is a neat boat but its going to take time and cash to get up to tournament style fishing use. but i think you have some good to work with. then you still need electronics and trolling motor and get a good look at the trailer and its wheels and tires. "fishing with Nordbye youtuber got a used bass cat about a year ago. he has a mentor friend who has a lot of experience with bass cat and setting one up.

If you take care of the oiler it won't be an issue. Also don't ignore the alarms. The oiler system needs maintenance just like the motor does. Most never bother and when the diaphragm blows and stops pumping oil and the head blows they blame it on the system. Not their own neglect. Also have fun mixing the oil the vro would save you oil cost instead of running 50:1 wich would cost more in maintenance.
