it's not (only) about technique, it's about who you are.

Hey mate. I love your channel. I’ve come from being a harrrrd case to being on ‘the long slow road’. I’m at a point where I can do the exercises, and sing along to songs well enough - but the second I sing in public, I kinda collapse and forget all the skills. Still, I’m dedicated, and watching your videos keeps me inspired 🙏

Only way through is to keep exposing yourself to the pain, eventually you become desensitised to it, tough road to walk though.

Becoming a Natural Singer thanks! I’m used to social embarrassment as a (often terrible) caricaturist , so I’m up for it haha. I’m really fascinated by the links between art and music - lines, harmonies, compositions, tone - there’s so many parallels. I sorta think both are just ways of practising “the moment”, as hippie as that sounds.

my biggest struggle is that I can't let go of my swallowing muscles... but I have awareness of it right now. and day my day I feel it releasing slowly 😊❤❤

I just wanna say this is the channel I’ve been looking for as someone struggling with singing for 5 years now.

Think you have an idea where I am in my journey and the issues that stand in my way probably better than I do, Sir.
Clumsy cord closure remains an issue, but one to work out.
After that, as you know, vocal range is way better and the male high 'C' without falsetto is now realistic.

I had very clumsy cords, it takes time but it is a fixable problem and also a problem that will forever torment your singing if it remains unfixed.

Dude, roughly where are you based?
Your thoughts around fear really resonate with me. I've tried a couple of singing coaches before and they didn't seem to intuitively understand the mind-body connection.

I teach exclusively over skype / zoom currently, based in the UK, half my students are international.

Of course, we are in a pandemic. I liken singing lessons to therapy though in a way. When my therapist went on Skype briefly I couldn't handle it 😂
Can you still pick up all the nuances over Skype? I guess you'd require some audio clips?.🤔
If so, I'd be interested in asking for some help. It seems to me you understood a lot of problems with the diaphragm are psychosomatic. That's alway been my issue (I think); singing coaches always have always seen my issue as weak diaphragm, poor technique. When I say, 'hey no, that's where my anxiety, fear, trauma live', it doesn't seem to register.
For something so emotionally governed I find this odd.
