This is one of a two part video where here you'll get installation guide details along with the bonus of a custom smaller control box. In part two, you'll get a more detailed review of the on trail performance and whether I believe a winch is absolutely necessary. If you have any questions about the inst, drop them down below!

    That box looks like a much better solution than the included Harbor Freight one

      Thanks Robert! It feels like it should have been that way from the start. They could certainly use a revamped enclosure design. Let’s go off-roading soon!

      Thanks Kaisar! Yes, I can’t wait to see how this works on a tree lol. Hopefully palm trees can hold enough to winch out of a stuck situation.

      Exactly. This was somewhat defeating at first when things didn’t fit, but very rewarding when such a cheap solution worked.

    I have a 12k Badlands winch sitting in my garage because I gave up trying to shove it in my Goliath bumper. I didn’t have the patience to do what you did.

    • @Awesomoto
      @Awesomoto  Год назад

      I totally understand that. I was so bummed this winch didn’t fit and it took me a few weekends to tackle this because I was annoyed lol. This $13 box and some flex seal will do the trick. It was easy to do once I figured out a box that would fit.

      I ended up using a smaller, Rough Country winch. I’ll use the Badlands on my Land Cruiser project.

    Would be nice if you did a video explaining more into detail how and where you took the parts to place them in the custom box. The apex may be too big for my 5th gen...im considering doing this mod but i need more detail. Thanks.

      Sorry for the late reply on this. I had the camera recording during the whole process, but edited out since I tend to ramble and give more detail than most are willing to sit through lol. I'm considering putting out a video of just that material as a reference for you and others. Until then, send me an email on message on Instagram and I can help you through the details on repackaging the electronics.

    As a former firefighter and mountaineer, you'll be surprised what you can use as an anchor in Florida. However, improper winching has many dangers, and anyone using a winch for self-recovery should invest in taking a vehicle recovery course.

      @Awesomoto  8 месяцев назад +1

      Jotin, I appreciate your feedback on this topic as you've got me considering a vehicle recovery course as I think many (including myself) could benefit from a lesson on this. Maybe I'll do some research to get smart on the topic and attempt a vehicle recovery video.

    Thanks much for the tutorial. I'm about to install a winch in my gx 470 fitted with an Ironman bullbar. One of the A/C lines appears to be in a location where it will interfere. It seems quite flexible though. Did you have to reshape the A/C line to allow fitment of the winch?

    • @Awesomoto
      @Awesomoto  3 месяца назад

      Hey Johnsky! Yes, I slightly reshaped them, but not much. I just recommend being careful when doing it and don't over do it.
