    SO disappointing!! I literally just took delivery of my X4 today and my X4 wind muffs. PAH! This is so I can speak to my viewers whilst hanggliding - which inherently has wind. I haven't even turned it on yet, but I can see I'm going to have to invest in a microphone 😞. Thanks for the review - very helpful.

    I have been using a DIY version of this for a while, and it does work great for me while cycling. I wonder why the official one isn't working as well as my DIY version. So not only do they not work, the made them backwards! I found that the "hook" part interferes with the rubber lens hood. They should have made the part that attached to the mike the "loop" part making putting on, and taking off the lens guard easier....

    So not to be "that guy" but there is a 3rd mic on the X3 between the function buttons on the front. If you put a muff on this it will interfere with the 360 camera, perhaps why Insta360 don't sell a third one it the set. however why not tape over this mic and see if the muffs make a difference? The amount of noise coming through that foam sounds a bit "off" to me? The pitch and everything just sound like naked wind, perhaps through the front mic? Or I may be missing something?

    • @EatSleep360

      With the wind shields you have to use stereo mode so im assuming this uses left and right mic opposed to direction focus which uses all mics for Spatial Audio. It’s a good point though, thanks for the comment.

    I can tell you the Wind Noise Reduction on the One X2 was superior to the X3. I fly Hang-gliders and I have a video where another pilot called me from his cell phone (in the air mind you) and I answered the call on my Apple Watch. With little wind noise you could clearly hear me speaking but more impressive was that you could clearly hear my friend's voice coming through the Apple Watch (FYI 360 cam was on a 1 meter carbon boom from the glider control frame, so about half meter in front and above me). Anyway, that was the One X2 which I cracked up a bit on a hard landing in Mexico. So now I've been flying with a One X3 since April and even with the wind noise reduction feature on I'm getting unacceptable wind noise. I don't know if's a firmware thing or what but I think I'm just going to try some black gaffer tape over the mics and see how it goes.

    On the product page, they seem to market toward a motorcycle rider. But you didn’t test it at motorcycle riding speeds. I was looking at this specifically for bicycle riding (10-30mph) and this video did not help me in making a decision there. Likely, I still wouldn’t need it.
    If this one location were the main or only location shot at, I could see this definitely not being viable for improving wind noise issues.
    I love the quality of the video and comparisons of the audio. I just wish you had/were able to test in more situations (and I know that bears cost). Many thanks for being direct and to the point!

    Question: the Insta360 has 3 different audio modes and 4 microphones. So I am just curious if the recording mode can be setup to use only the two mics on the side - else it makes no sense to use the adhesive muffs. Found nothing in the manual - did you try playing around with the audio recording setup? However, thanks for the review 👍

    • @EatSleep360
      @EatSleep360  Год назад

      In the manual it says to use stereo mode with these wind muffs - so I assume that mode only uses the mics on the side. It’s hard to tell as everything gets compressed into one track. Good point though and sorry I can’t answer it more clearly.

      The prototype I made is 2~3 times larger than the released product.
      It is adhered with acrylic foam double-sided tape without Velcro.

      The reason why muting the front/rear mics is necessary is that low-frequency amplification occurs when the lens guard covers the mic hole.
      Of course, this is also necessary for stereo recording to work properly.
