Now I can't help but think that the UNSC is just Virgin Squad fighting the Chad covenant for domination of the universe. Halo takes on a much more humerous tone that way. (PS: The edit was because I fucked up the time stamp)
As a kid I never really payed attention to the actual characters storylines or who they were. After playing the first two and seeing Arbiters character arc is probably the best storytelling I’ve ever seen. From being the most ruthless and cunning shipmaster during the human covenant war to his eventual redemption by being at the memorial for all the humans killed at the end of Halo 3 brings tears to my eyes. It sounds cringe as hell but holy shit, Arbiters story is amazing.
I feel like the Arbiter was the most developed character in the Halo franchise. I'd even say he was the protagonist of Halo 2, rather than Master Chief.
Arbiter had no redemption arc imo. All he cared about was personal revenge against the prophets, while ignoring his own evil past and how making up for that should be his primary motivation to fight alongside Humanity. And of course it didn't help that he was reduced to Chief's sidekick. The drop-off in character development and story depth from Halo 2 to 3 was really disappointing.
@@redaug4212 he did get a redemption arc tho, from the betrayal of the covenant and alliance with humanity, when the war ended he regretted the actions he had made against the humans, the millions of lives he took because of the prophets lies, he made the swords of sanghelios to stop something like the covenant to ever happen again, halo 4 and 5 are shit but i kinda like what they did with arbirter even if it is a minor bit of development
@@What-.-. He really didn't. Arbiter fought with the UNSC to stop the covenant from nuking the galaxy and to get revenge on the last prophet for betraying him. He didn't do it to redeem his own actions, and not once in any of the games does he show regret for having killed billions. It's not even implied. In order to have a redemption arc, the character has to actually want redemption. We're never shown that with Arbiter. Ideally, Bungie should have given Arbiter his own story in Halo 3 instead of having him tag along with Master Chief for only half the game. That way he could have the same depth he had in 2.
@@redaug4212 very true, i never think about HIS story in H3 too much as opposed to H2. Could’ve been handled differently but still pretty amazing what they did do. He had his poetic end with Truth and much else is left up to imagination. Halo 3 is where the story ends. 4 and 5 are cash grabs, should’nt be official canon, but i digress
"I AM TRUTH! THE VOICE OF THE COVENANT!" "and so...you must be silenced." man i remember the first time i played this on release i did the victory yell with the arbiter. It was so satisfying seeing truth get stabbed.
"We must go, the brutes have our scent." "We must go, the brutes have our scent." "We must go, the brutes have our scent." "WE MUST GO, THE BRUTES HAVE OUR SCENT." "WE MUST GO, THE BRUTES HAVE OUR SCENT!" "WE MUST GO, THE BRUTES HAVE OUR SCENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
It’s pretty sad but I feel like the arbiters “Tartarus, the prophets have betrayed us” is pretty strong as the arbiter comes to terms that everything he knows, has fought for and lived for was an absolute lie and meaningless.
TrueGamerOpinion halo 4 wasn’t bad it was like a 7/10 story wise but halo 5. Oh man that was a mess, nothing redeemable about that story for sure who knows what can possible be done to fix that
TrueGamerOpinion well gameplay wise there is no comparison halo 1-3 are way better then halo 4. But halo 4 does some good character work with John and Cortona which helps elevate the story just enough for the story alone to be average. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either it was average a 7/10. But halo 5, oh man that was just a torture to witness
I miss how everything felt so high stake back then. Yes, you can say that the story is predictable that the good guys will always win, but the build up and the atmosphere was just 10/10.
15:53 is my favorite cutscene in the game. There's just something about elites and humanity finally and visually working together. And Johnson and Arby being the ones that set their differences first for the marines and other elites to follow.
Cortana: "I'll drop a beacon, but it'll be a while until anyone finds us...years even...I'll miss you.." Chief: "Wake me, when you need me." ^^Me whenever I start up games 1-3
Man I just want a halo 3 remastered so badly. Seeing as how halo 2's cutscenes and art in gameplay looked amazing and I just want to see that same amazing art come to halo 3's cutscenes and art.
Pill Cosby hell yeah, these two missions have everything. Sniping, stealth, light vehicles, air vehicles, and tanks. There are a surplus of marines and elites backing you up. Most of the weapons and all of the grenades and equipment are in the level. You fight all of the enemies, covenant, flood, scarabs, with the exclusion of sentinels and also pure forms for some reason. The settings are beautiful and the level design is perfect. The encounters are masterfully crafted and the pacing is breakneck. My only gripe is at the end of the covenant, it revolves into only flood, in a really shitty arena for fighting flood, and just isn’t fun.
23:30 I never understood her decision to go in alone. Miranda is the highest commander of all human forces on the Ark. it's a mission to decapitate the covenant leadership, stop the ark from being activated in a simple pelican crash-landing. any ODST would be honored for the privilge to join her. and yet she, the battalion-commander gets herself killed, by going alone. the general that needs to draw his own sword, has already failed
She was doing that as a distraction so chief and arbiter could stop them firing. She asked how close are you and chief responded not close enough which prompted her to go in. Who else nearby could of helped exactly?
She couldn’t send more humans. That would just give truth more people to use if Johnson’s died. Hence why she contemplated killing johnson then herself. She was just trying to distract him long enough so chief could come through and end it
Her boss told her no. He was going for the defence of Earth over all else, sure idiotic if you realise that they were doomed if they just defended but as a military general it's fairly reasonable to assume he puts defence of the world over a mission un-certain to have an effect.
29:15 when I first played I literally got chills and this over sensationalized feeling Now, all these years later. I get tears because of the memories and knowing where, when, and how these times were. I dont think we will ever get that feeling that the 360, Wii, and PS3 generation of gaming was able to give to us. RIP 360, PS3, and even the Wii era ❤
Damn I remember playing this for the first time and thinking how realistic faces looked, how lush the scenery was, and now it looks like an N64 game compared to to new gen. I really hope they make an anniversary version for this in a couple years, I'd love to see what it could look like re-done like Halo 2
tskwared667 They won't make an anniversary version of Halo 3. The graphics will be good for at least another 10 years. Not to mention the fact that they already made the MCC. It's not like they're going to make a MCC2 next year unless they want to have a one way ticket to being named the worst company.
"They let me pick. Did I ever tell you that? Choose whichever Spartan I wanted. You know me. I did my research. Watched as you became the soldier we needed you to be. "Yeah... umm... Sorry ma'am... I couldn't seem to find "war" ON MY FUCKING MAP!" Just a joke, but yeah, I totally get what you mean. It's an awkward line.
17:49 Can I just point out how much I love the little detail they put on this part? I love Jonhson's (and to a lesser extent, the pilot's) shifts in his seat while they move. When they drop, both spring upwards due to the freefall, and when they start the engines to begin the nosedive, they shift to their seats again. And better yet, as they pitch down, they both move their legs and body to hold themselves onto the seat. It's just a little detail (that may not even be that outstanding) that makes me just like that cutscene even more
@@ajxx9987 Given the line he's responding to is "I still can't believe he's dead," it might be more like "Yeah, I can't get over it either, he was a real one."
Andr3asTheNorwegian I knew a few mid-level combat arms officers who had that sort of sense of humor and would absolutely do that kind of thing. They were more likely to name rally points and phase-lines after their favorite strip joints, though.
23:30 All this time after playing Halo 3 for the 1st time, and learning the lore behind the Covenant religion, the meaning behind that line, is so much more disturbing.
@@jackharvey5613 It's that Truth realises that the Covenant was built on a lie, but rather than watch the Covenant collapse he'd rather drag everyone kicking and screaming into the void by lighting the rings.
@Juan Martinez the irony is actually in the actions they take as ministers; Truth withholds the truth from the Covenant, Regret is impulsive and brash and regrets nothing, and Mercy is always clamoring for punishment and shows no mercy.
How did the Chief know pressing that big button in the middle of the console wouldn't activate the rings? Cause it sure looked like the "activate the rings" button.
The Forerunners intended for humanity to be able to use their technology after they activated the Halo array so the Librarian imprinted certain geas (basically an idea or knowledge that sits within your subconscious mind that kind of guides you down a certain path) on humanity either before or after (I can’t remember) the Forerunners fired the array so that humans would be familiar(ish) with Forerunner technology. It’s the same reason Chief knew which button to press in the second mission of Halo CE to activate that first light bridge they came across in the tunnel.
15:53 I love this scene. No dialogue, no monologue, nothing. Just a simple exchange. Like they're saying "Yeah I know we still have some shit we need to work out, but damn it we're allies. We work together anyway we can."
Another easily missed one is that the entire exploding course you race through on your warthog is actually the Silent Cartographer island from Halo CE, minus the sand, plants, and sea.
16:04 I love how the Marines are carrying Covenant weapons, the Arbiter's carrying a rocket launcher, and everyone's still a bit befuddled about these new arrangements. Former enemies are now allies, and everyone just has to get used to it.
halo 5 playing warzone a huge portion of my team quits one of my teamates: oh great they pretty much out number us 3:1 me: Then it is an even fight, all spartans fire at will *5 minutes later* "your core has been destroyed" me: shit

They already say that, my brother is 10, looks at PS1 games and hate it SMH. Back then it was never about graphics it was about the story and setting it told.
Gameplay> graphics and this game looks better then anything on Xbox one. Sure xbone is more detailed and expensive but this does more with less. Great art style.
In my eyes, the planet they fell towards at the ending of Halo 3 was Onyx being reconstructed by the sentinels, and in no time at all he'd be reunited with Blue Team and they all lived happily ever after
25:07 is in my opinion the greatest scene in anything, ever. “Do not shoot, but listen. Let me lead you safely, to our foe. Only you can halt what he has set in motion.”
But then again he didn't see himself as a hero. He just wanted to do what needed to be done to save humanity, as a soldier. And, as we can clearly see in the Halo 5 trailers, there were entire statues of chief built.
17:57 is incredible. The buildup in the song & the hissing of the Pelican engine firing up is tense. Then the scene where all the ships are flying down and one of them is shot down in flames! The timing of the sound design and video is phenomenal 10/10. Bring back Blur studios for the remaster hell yes!
"They out number us three to one'" Ship Master Rtas Vadumee': "Then it is an even fight. All cruisers fire at will! Burn their mongrel hides!!" One of the best lines in the franchise.
All my best memories are from playing Halo 3: I remember getting Halo 3 back in 2007 when I was only 8 years old. I loved Halo 3 even before I got my xbox live gold profile in 2008. I used to bring friends home and we played all day. Halo 3 was different from every other game and I got a special feeling from playing it. I play Halo 3 today and I wish I could relieve the lovely memories but I cant. Halo 3 custom games was the best thing ever existed. I remember playing the awesome campaign and collecting all the skulls to unlock new multiplayer armour. I bet no one will ever feel what I feel and what I felt. I wish that time could last forever.
Thats almost exactly what i did except the flood freaked me the F*** out. I just played Halo 3 without playing the others and my young self had no idea what was happening. Now looking back at all the Halo's i get a feeling of sadness and nostalgia from all the good moments and how everyone basically dies in the Halo universe. Probably why its popular, bc its realistic and not everyone lives.
same here almost exactly except halo 4 was shitty in my opinion why did they take out dialogue for the covenant thats what made halo awesome and none of the marines has any awesome quotes
i still believe halo 3 and reach are the most full games in terms of content. i mean we had a crazy good campaign, multiplayer, custom games, forge and halo reach kept all that and even added firefight too. now games just have multiplayer and a campaign if we're lucky. usually like nothing else lmao.... i mean the cod games are the only similar games with content like campaign, multiplayer and zombies or spec ops but even later cods released with less content and blops 4 has gotten rid of campaign completely and only has multiplayer modes and zombies......we'll never have content packed games like the halos ever again :c
The industry is in a bad place right now. We need AAA developers to go back to older graphics (like Halo 3 or Reach) and just give us more content. Better graphics means no split-screen co-op, worse graphics means 4-player split screen. We would also get to have MUCH bigger battles, which is why the biggest fight in Halo is still Arby and Chief vs 2 scarabs... and that was 12 years ago! Ditch photorealistic graphics, pick up more contet and more fun! Imagine the possibilities. Of course, geaphics aren't the only thing that kills game potential, but it's a step in the right direction.
@@plopis55 Unfortunately, very few people have thought of this. The fact is, great graphics improve a trailer, and that's all they need for pre-orders.
No. That's not how this series ended. Chief died at the end of Halo 3. His entering the Cryotube was a metaphor. Chief paid the ultimate price for saving humanity: Giving his life as so many others did. It also plays as a subtle irony. SPARTANS never die, they just go Missing in Action. The Master Chief, the last living SPARTAN, who is MIA, drifting through the howling dark never to return, is the first and only SPARTAN to be listed KIA. That ending made me cry so much the first time I understood what it meant. Halo is a story about war, duty, heroism, and sacrifice. It's about soldiers and what a soldier should be, and Chief embodies all of those themes to a T. But on a bigger, grander level, it was a message that war was trivial and that our petty conflicts can be overcome by working together to conquer the mysteries of life. And 343 had to fucking ruin it.
29:15 is one of my favorite moments in the entire game. You stand there, next to Arby, as you see a new ring rising from the clouds and Guilty Spark just chillin' in the background. Hate him or not, in that moment, he had such a relaxing voice. That pink-ish atmosphere in the background was amazing as well. It doesn't get more Halo than that moment.
"I chose you because you had something the others didn't: Luck. Was I wrong?" "I chose you because you were special. I knew we'd be perfect together. And I was right!"
"Wake me when you need me." Is such a good final line. Chief was essentially created to win the human/covenant war and the war is now over. After years of nigh constant battle, his mission is finally complete. He doesn't even care that he's stuck adrift in the middle of intergalactic space. He just wants to sleep.
See, this is what I'm talking about. This is what made Halo such an amazing franchise. Every individual could connect to the story and have some forms of emotional depth with the characters. The cut scenes feels like they were crafted very carefully. This is what 343i lack. They fail to build a bridge with the players. They only use flashy images and cheesy story line to build their campaign. Bungie made sure to connect with players emotionally. It sucks that there will never be another Halo game as good as Halo 3. 343i is okay but lets face the reality, Halo doesn't belong in their hands. I wish that in the future, 343i is forced to step down and Bungie comes back, remaking the Halo franchise starting from Halo 4.
+XpertiCON I'm more wondering why 343i STILL hasn't re-implemented Brutes at all. We can see one in Halo4's opening, yet we never encounter any in neither Halo4 nor Halo5. They reference Engineers briefly and went through the work of introducing the Didact's Forerunner drone forces, yet no Brutes?

The back-to-back missions of The Ark and The Covenant are and will forever be the pinnacle of first person shooter gaming.
I used to love those 2 missions just to keep odsts alive till they stop following me
23:30 I never understood her decision to go in alone.
If only rookie from ODST was there
She couldn’t send more humans.

I remember getting Halo 3 back in 2007 when I was only 8 years old.
I know exactly how you feel bro.
Zeady you're not alone, halo 3 will always be my favourite game no matter what :)
That was like me and halo 1-2-3 I just had a love for them :)
i still believe halo 3 and reach are the most full games in terms of content. i mean we had a crazy good campaign, multiplayer, custom games, forge and halo reach kept all that and even added firefight too. now games just have multiplayer and a campaign if we're lucky. usually like nothing else lmao.... i mean the cod games are the only similar games with content like campaign, multiplayer and zombies or spec ops but even later cods released with less content and blops 4 has gotten rid of campaign completely and only has multiplayer modes and zombies......we'll never have content packed games like the halos ever again :c
@@thepainkiller4939 i agree with that if games just used older graphics on the newer consoles there could be crazy possiblys for new games

Channel CASenine i never realised until i read your comment now, i finally realise why they didnt safely return chief home in the story
...On Installation 04.
*ALWAYS ENDS WITH A WARTHOG*
Cole Vacheron nice troll
30:14 chief watch out!!! your about to fly right into that concept art!!!!
Henry Swaggins tbh when i saw that cutscene i was like bruh... i know thats a skybox bungie...
Henry Swaggins that obviously painted background
29:15 is one of my favorite moments in the entire game. You stand there, next to Arby, as you see a new ring rising from the clouds and Guilty Spark just chillin' in the background. Hate him or not, in that moment, he had such a relaxing voice. That pink-ish atmosphere in the background was amazing as well. It doesn't get more Halo than that moment.
I love how he just flies away and interrupts himself
"Don't ever let her go..." kinda has more meaning when you see how chief tries to keep cortana for as long as he can
"I chose you because you had something the others didn't: Luck. Was I wrong?"
"I chose you because you were special.
If master chief was real he would call bungie 5 times a day everyday of the year
Bungie is gone for good, the Bungie that made destiny is nothing but a shadow. There are no better hands to put in.
Bungie making another Halo would be as bad if not worse than 343's handiwork, what without Joe Staten's writing and Marty O'Donnell's score.

I'm more wondering why 343i STILL hasn't re-implemented Brutes at all. We can see one in Halo4's opening, yet we never encounter any in neither Halo4 nor Halo5. They reference Engineers briefly and went through the work of introducing the Didact's Forerunner drone forces, yet no Brutes?
