No reason for shame, you reformed. No reason for regrets, you turned into into a "superpower". Now you can warn others so instead of Anki being a torture for school crammers, it is what it should be: a gift to humanity! It seems subbornness is your main thing. This can also be your superpower! 6 million!

What do you mean by not applicable to real life? I am making making course-specific flashcards for school that will probably not be useful after my exams have been completed. Is that the kind of thing you mean?

In part yes, I mean the flashcards which only purpose is for exams, in other words, I would never have created that card if I had no exam. For the other hand, I meant low-frequency words such as "sesquipedalian" for English. Good to know the word, easy to remember it because of spaced repetition, hard to use it in real life context.

knowledge for exams that seems useless can be processed incrementally at low priority. Step by step you will convert it in useful stuff or delete (if truly useless). Nice testimony to the efficiency of school system!

so basically you are saying to be selective of what you put in anki

That would be the core idea, and focus on applicability, which sometimes is not possible to know when creating the flashcard but later. There are more nuances like doing subset reviews etc that you will end up doing more reviews adding no flashcards and making no differenes long term in retention
