OK. I'm sold ... and made the purchase for the 14 tone drum that you demonstrated. I purchased it in the gold (yellow) with black number because I want to use it with elderly in a nursing home and hope that they can "see" the lines of the tongues and the numbers easier than a dark tongue drum. We'll see how it goes. I am very excited about finally getting one. Thank you for all your demonstrate for us!
It arrived. 1) It looks great and the dark lines do aid location of tongue for "vision" ~ especially with my elders. 2) It sounds lovely with the mallets... but quite "dead" when played with fingers. Don't know why. 😟 Just "dull" when tapped with fingers.. doesn't sound like yours ... I wonder what could make the difference.

Miss, you are a gentlewoman and a scholar. I just got $300 worth of Amazon gift cards from my work for Christmas because it's probably my last year (I just got my compsci degree and they all know I may be out before the end of next year) and I've wanted a steel tongue drum for a minute, and I want one so bad. Like, I already play guitar but the instrument is amazing. This* made my search so much easier and is exactly what I needed. Edit - sorry I'm drunk, fixed mistakes in spelling.
Whoa, I just played a hand pan with my cousin, and I’m so hooked! It might not be a hand pan, but it’s close enough! Thank you so much for you positive and informative video!
Help! I need to know what you think about The Balmy Drum ASAP. We just purchased the Rakumi, and it doesn’t sound nearly as good as my mom’s Balmy. I just couldn’t find ANY reviews on Balmy and hesitated to pay their astronomical prices for a drum for my daughter. However, quality is important to us. Please tell me what you think, as we are trying to get her one for Christmas.
Amazing video, thank you so much. I've been considering getting a RAV for a while, but they're rather costly 😅 Thanks for showing some more affordable options!
Really good video. They all look so cool. Thanks for demonstrating with both hands and sticks. I have a question, what's the rope/band that wraps around these? The one I'm eyeing doesn't have one. Is it aesthetics or does it serve a purpose? Are they removable?
It's mostly aesthetics to cover up a rubber band that goes around some drums to dampen the sympathetic vibration of the metal. Or, on drums made of two half spheres, it covers up the welding point. It may be useful on a drum that doesn't have that band though?
Very nice. Thanks for the information. I have a question. Will my apartment neighbours complain of the noise, or is it soft enough that they won't hear it?
Hi Molly thank you for the very informative video! I was at the swap meet and saw one for sale so I started doing research and I found you, YAY! I am getting one for my 17 yr old granddaughter as a gift, she plays lot's of instruments and I think this will be good for her being home schooled, she spends a lot of her time alone. She lives under quiet conditions so she feels as though she is disturbing the others if she plays her keyboard and certainly won't play the electric guitar and maybe a little bored with her acoustic guitar. She does read music however I am still uncertain which one to buy, I want it to be a surprise so I don't want to ask her which one she wants, any suggestions?
I just followed your Amazon link above and purchased the 9 notes drum in D minor yesterday. Today, Amazon informed me that the seller shipped the item but...I noticed that the seller gave an invalid tracking number...so I looked into it, and discovered that he has a horrible customers rating: only 30 % of buyers are happy, 70% of customers complain that they never received the item or that they received something completely different from what they ordered. Brrr... I pray that I will be as lucky as you and I will get the drum ! :-)
Is it common to strike the drum by swinging your thumb by turning your wrist? I think you could get close to the sound you get with the mallet that way but keep the natural feel of striking with hands. I feel like that is what would feel natural for me. Like the way I would slap a bass.
Thank you for the comparisons. Really appreciate it. Between the 14 and 15 note drums, will having one less note on the drum make a big difference? I'm having such a dilemma cuz the 14 note one sounds great.
@@thesodavampire so, how do you like the tongue drum? I am thinking about getting one .. i work in hospice and feel this could be very relaxing to play for our patients
My apologies. I received my tongue drum and I am satisfied with the reverberation quality of the sound that I was expecting from your video. There was an ornamental gourd that was damaged in shipment and I am hoping the Chinese company will replace for my promised five star rating.
Hi, the double tongue drum is no longer available, do you happen to know of a decent or budget friendly improv drum?? Specifically for improv and meditation?
I may have to stop watching your channel because it’s getting me into so much trouble, hahaha! I have that purple drum - my favorite, one very similar to that gold, and I just ordered the black double note (because now I need a drum in D Minor) as well as a D Celtic Minor from NovaDrum. I also purchased the tiny purple one you reviewed, and I LOVE it! I have an ASteman moon drum made of nitrided steel, which I’m in love with. Plus I got two lyres, a 16 and a 19 string, neither of which I can part with. Never mind making a music room - instruments are taking over the entire house! 😁 I love it.
How do you think the Beat Rise hybrid drum you reviewed compares to these? In particular the double tongue. Is there a clear winner tone wise in your opinion? Great videos btw!
I would also love to know her thoughts as Im trying to decide between the two. Ive done days worth of research and narrowed it down to those😂 its hard deciding by listening to videos of the tones bc the mic can really reverberate at times. My only dissapointment with it is that you cant play around with the magnets with either- but thats okay..im really just looking for d minor scale with those clear overtones.

Recently bought an Atma Buti 10 in. Key of C... Love it! So soothing and easy to play. It has a rubber like plug in the bottom hole, what is that for? I don't hear that much difference with the plug in place or removed
I think the rubber plug helps to muffle some of the more metallic overtones. It also lessens the chance of accidentally cutting a finger or hand on metal! 😊
