What I dont understand is why does age have to do with shorts if anything it should be if your comfortable wearing or comfortable with the shape of your legs

@@robertbrooks1509 Agreed. I’m turning 58 & I always wear shorter shorts with flip flops & slides. I live in my flip flops & slides whenever I’m not at work. I have 20 + pairs of flips, slides & various sandals. Ha!
Loafers sockless are great. Top siders are outdated & ugly.
In Texas, we wear shorts! Sometimes even in winter months, wearing shorts with a cool hoodie looks great and totally acceptable.
Hoodies are not acceptable. Ever.
Thanks for the great video. I live in Central California where it fluctuates from 80 to 115 degrees from May to October and I tend to wear golf shorts quite a bit, so having the right shoes are very important and the shoe styles you mentioned are perfect for me.
Definitely shorts in the summer! I am 71 and trim and fit and have no problem wearing shorts. My go footwear is a pair of cordovan penny loafers which looks great with a polo shirt and shorts and my boat shoes with shorts and a t shirt. I plan on adding a pair of the blue/white sneakers as a third option. Keep up the good work 👍

Here in Southern Spain I will be shorts more or less till September and I swap between canvas trainers for the day and driving loafers in the evening. The only thing to add is no show socks are a must, well for my feet anyway. The only other shoe I wear is like a canvass slip on, mainly for the beach. No flip flops or sandals, can not walk in them plus it is illegal to drive in them so way too much hassle. Great video for us older gentleman has always.

I got a pair of Alden loafers that I just got, it seems funky at first to wear them with shorts. I am trying to feel comfortable wearing them with shorts. Trying new ideas is the name of the game.
I live in a very hot climate and i wear shorts 8 months out of the year. Thank you for your input. I normally wear flip-flops, but I really want to wear loafers.

Not really into this style. I'm 4,2 and more into Street Wear. Why can't us 40 plus not wear shorts?? Makes no sense.
Some interesting options that look good in this video that aren’t really worn so much where I live. Here in New Zealand and Australia both flip flops and jean shorts are very common where almost every man owns them. Both of these items don’t carry the negative views that Americans have against them and are viewed in a much more positive light. Jean shorts are also extremely common in Europe when I was there and also I noticed a lot of them in South Korea and Japan.
I personally always Scotch guard all of my sneakers, ext prior to the first wear. Makes a big difference in the long run!
Excellent content as always John! I personally have no problem with guys over 40 wearing shorts. Being fit will stretch that age well into your 50’s if not your 60’s. I’m 55 and fit, but rarely wear shorts due to my ‘fish belly’ white legs!! Cheers!

Nothing beats Sperry Topsider boat shoes. Try the Gold Cup editions. They will be the most comfortable shoes you have ever worn. Were made for shorts.
Another great video. Like the look of the Lacoste sneaker, the lower profile makes it less cluncky looking. Will have to get a pair to replace my adidas sneaker.

I bought some white sneakers on York recommendations and I've never been a lover of white shoes they're ok I have only worn them once also I never really wore leather trainers either so I'd ha e to get used to that, in still not sold but thanks formyou content had really inspired me to change my wardrobe up a bit now I'm in my 40s
I've had some nice comments and good feedback from wearing all white Allbirds Tree Runners with shorts. Really simple looking all white sneaker that looks a little different

they may seem too 'youthful' for some but i've been wearing them since i was 12 and vans slip ons work with shorts so well! solid colours and simple style, comfortable, inexpensive and timeless in my opinion
I am 74 yo, but I love Vans slip-ons, and also Bucket Feet. Too youthful. Your call.
I definitely agree with you about white or navy minimal trainers in leather or canvas, and as you say, all black generally don't look good.
BUT whatever you choose they absolutely have to be kept CLEAN!!
Dirty white trainers with dirty laces are a very poor look, keep them clean, and replace the laces if needed or try putting them in the laundry, it works wonders.

I’ve come to a very recent conclusion that Navy colored shoes are really underrated in their versatility and they seem awesome to have for styling options. Just like everyone should have a Navy suit and a few options for Sports Coat, have a few Summer Shoes in Navy if can. That I’ll be adding to my purchase planning for shoes. I just hadn’t seriously considered it before.
Great content John. There shouldn’t even be a question whether men over 40 can wear shorts. From a medical stand point, older people need to keep cooler in hot weather anyway. I’ve never worn shorts because of my skinny legs, but I’ve learned from your videos to wear more fitted shorts, instead of the big baggy cargo ones. So I’m over 40 and will be wearing shorts.

I enjoy my Sperry and Ralph Lauren (Polo) canvas with no shows. Breathable and affordable.
No show socks are great with summer shoes , deck shoes are my favourite shoe to wear with shorts the classic look , I like suede tan Dubarry an Irish brand ..
The problem with no-show socks is that a lot of them will constantly slip off your heal; and no one wants to spend all day readjusting their socks. for this reason I like socks that go up to the ankle. White ankle socks are super off-trend, so I'd say black or a solid color that coordinates with your outfit is the best bet.

Perfect for summer in the Philippines.
Great choices, those Lacoste shoes look really nice. As all whites I already have Adidas Stan Smiths and Converse Chuck Taylors. Whenever needing to replace any of these I will look for a Lacoste. Didn´t have black-white sneakers, so just ordered some Ecco ones, black leather with white soles, model is called Soft7M, also very nice.

Timely video. I purchased some Sperry casuals and wore them with no socks....I ended up having some chaffing as a result. I'm going to wear some short socks with those Sperry casuals, not worth the discomfort or pain.

Hi John. I kind of have a phobia about wearing an all white sneaker because I always think they make my feet look huge even though I'm only a size 10. I feel like I'm wearing kayaks so I gravitate toward the driving moc. I have several pairs of the Cole Haan g series driving loafer in different colors. I did like those blue Ace Marks sneakers you were wearing though. Peace. :)
Excellent video and as always agree with nearly everything. Plain white tennis shoes always look great. I prefer the slightly more athletic look of a simple court shoe like Stan Smith, Converse, or my favorite K-Swiss. Always without a glaring logo and without any socks. A simple boat shoe always in style, at least here in southern California. Best loafer, IMO, is the highly versatile cordovan penny loafer. Stirrup loafers have a cheap look. My only real disagreement is with driving mocs. To my eye they look effeminate. The only time shorts should not be worn is with an obese stomach over spindly legs.
I am 70 years old. Deciding on a penny loafer. Should I get a Brown or Black ? Can I wear Brown penny loafers with blue clothes and sometimes brown.....
Never been keen on Boat Shoes but I liked all of the other options.

Super nice channel you have, with many great tips ... it is also fascinating to see how different the style and culture are, whether you live in the US or Scandinavia (Denmark) ... many of the shoes you show would seem out of fashion here or too feminine... but for example in Spain or Italy they could be used ....

Oh yes definitely shorts all summer long. No question about it. The only time I wear long pants is either at work or church.
I live Queensland Australia, 8 months the of the year it’s 90-110’f-‘ and 85% plus humidity. Yeah shorts shorts and more shorts.

With shorts I am a big fan of Converse Low Top and Slip-ons. Not the most durable sneakers, but they are not expensive.
Loafers why not, but boat shoes, no, I think it's too "old school ".
No show socks are essential.
I have always thought white shoes go better with shorts than

Is 7/8 length considered shorts? I like this length but feel it is more for women. It shows the lower leg when pair when low cut or no show socks. What do you think?
Personally, I like shorts about 8/9”, but it depends how tall you are.
Have all of them. My driving moc is brown leather. Been looking for one in suede. Only issue with my driving moc is the vamp is too low and only one brand of socks are not exposed and they are awfully thin and not as comfortable as Bombas or Stance.

Hey John, I am well over 40 (58) and love wearing shorts. Recently I found a pair of Vans old skool skater shoes left on the street! (yes they are black!) and they look amazingly good with a cut blue jeans.
Wearing swimming shorts or cargo bermudas, flip flops looks great.
I agree on your advise about formal shoes, there is one exeption though: the classic English Fishbone Brand shorts. Combined with brogues you have a match. Must admit I still have the legs of an 18 yo and a nice suntan. For the less fortunate I would advise a capri short that covers up below your knees.

They're pretty versatile really. I wear a lot of blue, so it's fairly easy.
While white sneakers are not my style, even though I have several coloured ones, they're rarely worn. But I have several driving moccasins, because of their flexible construction and light weight, I always pack a pair in my Carry-on Travel Bag, where a 7kg limit applies on domestic flights. My favourite are a light blue suede pair, that lift the style of coloured chinos, but they get the most use as a pair of slippers, in my hotel room, after leaving home at 4.30am to catch the 6am flight to Sydney, and at the end of the Business Day, when I have been wearing black oxfords for 15 hours, the suede driving mocs feel like velvet slippers. You can't do that with a pair of sneakers, which also weigh more, reducing the amount of clothing that you can fit into a 7kg limit travel bag. Phil.

How do you feel about espadrilles? I live in a Summer resort community, and my go to has become a long sleeve linen button down. a pair of khaki, navy, or Nantucket red twill shorts, and a pair of espadrilles. Can I leave the village, or will I look like an idiot?

Florida - The official state shoe is the classic Filp Flop. Followed by the authentic Sperry Topsider. And then, the classic Penny Loafer (sans socks of course... or maybe no show socks). Nice vid. Keep'em coming.
I love wearing leather sneakers with shorts but in my opinion you have to streamline your laces because when they are too long they take away from the overall appearance.

Since I was in middle school 36 years ago, I've always had at least a pair of classic boat shoes to wear with shorts, I think they look great! I like sneakers to, not a fan of loafers with short!
