- Having been informed of this ancient relic of our Christian heritage I thought I had better go and check it out and I was not disappointed.
This old chapel is well worth going to visit especially if you like this sort of thing:)
Music from RUclips audio library:
Angeline the baker - Nat Keefe with the bow ties
Dude where's my horse - Nat Keefe with the bow ties
Last train to Mars - Dan Lebowitz
Thanks again, Sandy. I like that you can still ride down country lanes without bumper-to-bumper traffic. Very peaceful. The chapel was amazing to see. Cheers. 👍🙂🏍️
It's a nice place to visit Brian, I was surprised when I first saw the chapel, I was expecting a tin hut chapel from the victorian age:)
Sandy, the mantra that I have is, you never get lost, you just happen to be going somewhere you have never been to before.
I'll go along with that:)
It amazes me that you can just walk into these old churches without any supervision or anything. It just seems incredible to me..
Most of the time remote churches are kept locked and you can often get the key from the vicarage, but in the case of this old chapel there wasn't anything inside worth nicking:)
Such a beautiful old building, it’s a privilege to be able to walk into such history. You might find this somewhat amusing, yesterday we had the coldest day in 10 years, 10c that’s probably not very cold to you. Look after yourself and kick that infection
Hi sandy have you changed your bikes? Thks
@UCXvsMw3MIIhOxuVhnt-mhyA No I have the same two motorcycles now for almost 5 years
@@WiltshireMan I thought your original himmy was black? When you were filling up it looked grey. Thks
I've lost interest in a lot of channels I used to follow, but I always check out your content. That church is exactly the type of thing I travel for hours to see.
I like visiting these old places:)
Good choice taking Chug, with that long track leading to the Chapel. There are still churches with the rood screen intact. The old (catholic) idea was that the preparation of the communion was a Holy Mystery intended for the priesthood only and that the congregation should not see or share this part of the communion service. This also gives an idea of the age of the building. Times have moved on.
I am always very happy to see another adventure that involves good ol' Chug Sandy. It never disappoints. I can only imagine the feeling one must have while standing inside an old majestic chapel that has been on earth since the 13th century. The thought is dizzying I think. And the beauty of the huge area that surrounds it is absolutely stunning. Another very enjoyable video my friend, very well done. Have an amazing summer and enjoy yourself to the fullest. See you on the next one of course.
Thanks Terry, It's a lovely chapel and the countryside surrounding it is so nice too and not too far from home
What a delightful find ! That Chapel is quite stunning. Love the countryside around there too. Thanks Sandy👍
Great relaxing video to watch, thanks Sandy, look forward to the next 👍
Lovely video Sandy, that chapel was a nice find! I love these local rides out, thanks for posting.
It amazes me that I'm always able to find something new close to home
I agree, we're very fortunate in this area, but you have covered some very rare finds. Keep up the good work but do look after yourself too!!
Hi Sandy, you do find some lovely historic buildings in your travels, well done! Hope you get over the ecoli infection and can get back on the push bike. Regards Keith
I went for a 13 mile push bike ride tonight Keith, don't feel too bad, just a bit low on energy and a few aches in various places:)
Thanks Sandy, you always motivate me to keep going, it's all about getting out there, motorbike or bicycle, even on foot, all works for me.
It's a refreshing change to see a trip to a place I can visit, 40 miles from Oxford, rather than m/c trips in North America or the adventures of Itchy Boots and Marc Travels. There is a church near me 100 years older (Iffley church)- but being on the edge of a town, it grew and is still used, unlike chapels in the country side. And when I visit, I won't need to fill up first, having charged at home.
Your visits to historical places are so very interesting. These are places a tourist on a visit to your country would never see. Thanks for sharing the videos and your thoughts.
Local knowledge sure helps find these ancient sites
Wonderful scenic ride to this beautiful Chapel. Thank you for taking me along, Sandy. Cheers!
Your most welcome Dan:) Thanks for watching
@@WiltshireMan You're very welcome, my friend!
Very nice Sandy - get well soon sir
Lovely country roads and spin Sandy
This was brilliant Sandy. I really like the footage you have been able to capture with the insta360. It's so versatile. The audio is great too. Are you using a lav into the GoPro?
Hi Paul, just a really cheap lav mic from fleabay:) Works OK and used the hero 10 with the media mod. I'm loving the 360 camera, I can see how useful it will be:)
There are places like this scattered everywhere, Sandy, and many of them are accessible year round.
One of the things I love about the UK.
Cheers sandy, what a great pass time "hobby" searching out old hidden, forgotten places and there's so many of them in and around wiltshire, great camera work too well done.
You did well to get up Spring Hill. Was quite an endeavour on the motorcycle let alone a cycle!
It sure is a steep climb Dave
Thank you for sharing this with us Sandy, we enjoyed it very much (The mrs and I.)
Hello sandy, if you like that chaoel you will love St. Catherine's chapel in Abbotsbury.
Some beautiful country side around your QTH. Lovely video with a seldom seen beautiful weather day. 73s
Lovely to see you out on the Himalayan, sorry to hear you've not been to good . Love the video beautiful villages, nice bit of history thanks for sharing my best wishes to you from the Philippines ❤️💪👍😉😀😁🏁🏍️🛺🐑🇵🇭🏴
That was fascinating Sandy, what a lovely building.
Lovely film, thanks. Inspires me to get out more on my Himalayan.
Cheers for taking us along bro, just the views on the way was well worth the admission price. Safe travels. Ken.
England is a green and pleasant land in parts Ken:)
Lovely Aldbourne, and what a find amongst that beautiful countryside Chisbury chaple so beautiful with it's flint covering. Great to be out and give the legs a rest from cycling at the same time, thanks for taking us out on this ride Sandy 👏👋
Glad you enjoyed the video Trekon:)
Beautiful old chapel, Sandy. Well worth a visit. I was out on my new bike yesterday with a couple of friends and we did around 150 miles, mainly around your neck of the woods. We enjoyed the Classic Motor Hub north of Bibury and then rode across to Fairford to watch the jets. Look forward to catching up with you soon.
That sounds great Steve, you should have called in, mind you I was probably out. What bike do you have now I wonder?
@@WiltshireMan BMW R1250 GSA. Had to trade-in the F750 plus the Fireblade plus £££s. They're not cheap, but it does everything I want to do on a bike.
@@SteveSeadog Lovely bike Steve, they are massive:)
I'm not a religious man by any means, but the way that is situated and overlooking all the fields and woodlands...it would make anyone feel slightly better, just for the views alone. Looming across fields and valleys, travelling along leafy lanes is the best feeling. I'll be buggered if I'm walking 😂😂😂 that is so me 😂😂😂 Just as well you didn't, ghat lane ip yo it was long! There's a beautiful place in Kent, called Aylesford Priory...dates back to the 12th Century and is still occupied by the monks today. I love it if I get the chance to visit there, for the history, the buildings and grounds and just gor the peaceful feeling there.
Nice use of the new cam, avoided the overhead shots that makes it look like going around a roundabout, get well soon.
I think it's a good tool when used properly Mike, it shows the scene well and places me in the scene which helps to tell the story:)
Sandy you live in such a beautiful place Cheers Glenn.
Fascinating, and very enjoyable Sandy. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
First I love the 360 cam and its different perspective. It’s so interesting when you take us along on your historical trips. As someone from the US, it’s so cool to see. Thanks
Glad nothing spooky or untoward lashed out at you Sandy, your a braver man than me, I'd have taken holy water and a crosifix with me. 😃😃😃
U never fail to amaze me with your energy! I need a job change to have more time outdoors! too much work is toxic!
I’m sorry to hear you have E-Coli Sandy.
Re the weather look at Richard Vobes video yesterday with 2 pilots talking about chemtrails and what “ they” are doing in the sky. It’s well documented.Lovely chapel.
I saw Richards video Anne, its very wrong what they are doing
Another great ride out to see a lovely piece of history. It’s fascinating to stand there and think of all the ages that chapel has been through. I hope the ecoli gets better. I saw on the news today up to 200 people have been infected. They think it might be from salad that has been distributed around the country in sandwiches etc. Thanks very much for the film. 😊
That is quite a church. I wonder if it was done with a slip form? The walls appear very thick. I am always impressed how well a building like that can stand the test of time and weather. Beautiful place and a monument to itself. Thanks for taking us along Sandy.
Hi Jim,
I'm not sure how they built this old chapel but for sure the walls are very thick. Certainly stood up to the test of time OK:)
Lovely old Medieval building Sandy, we are surrounded with history.
" I'm buggered if I'm going to walk," made us chuckle ,Sandy.
What an interesting place to visit and as a retired building contractor always very interesting to me.
Like the new camera too. Amazing job you make of your filming.
As always a great job, Sandy !
Best wishes P & M.
Fantastic! Thank you so much. Please heal and feal better.
Splendid little chapel. Looks a little Saxon to me. I think the windows have that sort of air about it. We have some fantastic hidden gems like this all around us. Thanks for sharing Sandy.
Gorgeous countryside and the church was a real treat. Interesting construction back in the day.
Another great film Sandy… What a lovely little chapel….Can’t say I’m a fan of the fish eye camera though…Acquired taste I guess 😄… Catch up soon 👍
Glad you enjoyed the Chapel mate.
If you're prepared to "venture over the border" there's a cracking little pre-Norman origin church in East Shefford that's worth a look.
Really enjoy your vids as our patches overlap a bit, so nice to see "local" stuff
DG
Thanks DG, I've gopt quite a bit of local exploring still to do by the sound of things:)
I loved the video, Sandy. Many thanks for sharing your ride on Chug and the beautiful chapel with us.
I'm impressed Chug coped with the intense heatwave we are going through!
Fabulous video . Good luck on overcoming the E. coli bug . It goes back to food and water - avoid drinking water from the waterways . A lot of staph aureus and E. coli water borne bugs are anti biotic resistant and can if not treated lead to sepsis - so take bottled water on your rides and keep them away from mud contamination . Great video
Cheers Rob, could be but I was already a little unwell before drinking the brook water, thankfully on the mend now
Love the 360 camera work, didn't find any Ghost then😅😅😅. Again my best wishes to you from the Philippines ❤️💪👍😉😀😁🏁🏍️🛺🐑🇵🇭🏴
A very enjoyable video. My son put me on to your channel, he is a very keen cyclist and said dad you must watch. I have a small motorcycle and enjoy getting lost in the Hampshire countryside. Thank you for sharing. Terry
Thanks Terry glad you found my channel, I mostly cycle, motorcycle and camp and love all things historical:)
Thanks WM. Stunning English countryside in full bloom, lovely. Stunning chapel too. Something that’s built in these days would be lucky to make it to the end of this century and they say you learn things after time. How to rip people off i think!
Another nice motorcycle ride through the country to explore an historical site…love it!
Gods country!
For sure Klaus:)
Absolutely brilliant, old churches interest me,many thanks.
i love these little adventure videos you make. keep it up!!
Interesting find, I quite often head down that way from Oxfordshire, we are lucky what we have, there’s a derelict church not far from me near a place called Bix, (just outside Henley)not complete like your one but interesting to visit
Another great video
Great little soujourn for sure. Thanks Sandy ✨👍🏼✨
Great find or tip off rather great old buildings to see how craftsmen with no power tools could build structures like this just no character newbuild estate houses we have lovely countryside in uk hot packed beaches in Spain no no no camp by river or in woods for me sandy
Sandy, That’s a really nice place to visit and it’s amazing that it’s survived, stay well n safe😎
I think it was down to it being used as a barn, it was useful so therefore survived
Loved it Sandy! A very pretty part of the world indeed..... I'm sitting indoors in Cumbria with the fire on. Flaming June indeed😉 Get well soon👊
Flaming June is just about right Marty, it's damn chilly!
Great video Sandy, I did one myself at Chisbury Chapel, I walked 🤣 thank you for sharing 😊 its an amazing place
Ah I shall have a check:)
Sandy nice to see you back out on the bike not the push bike this time your motorcycle looked a bit cloudy makes a change it's as good as a rest nice country side nice church good bit of history very good stay safe and stay healthy blessed be
That chapel is in good order for its years, very interesting. Hope you are feeling better soon.
I'm a lot better thankyou Patrick
Wonderful! Thank you for publishing this video.
Your welcome John, thanks for watching
Hope you feel better, Sandy. I like the 360 camera. Makes for a great video.
I am much better now thanks Bill
Lovely stuff Sandy. Could I ask, do you do your own soundtracks for these videos? I know you play guitar well.
No, I get the music from the RUclips audio library:)
@@WiltshireMan Ah i see. lovely choices though :)
Very nice video Sandy. Didn't want it to end.
Do you still have/ride your Brompton and V-Strom?
Yes to both Alex:)
Thanks for the video, what a wonderful little Chapel. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Very interesting video Sandy👍
That was a lovely chapel Sandy. Hope you are keeping ok.
Not too bad thanks Damon, Just a little infection but feeling OK
Nice one Sandy enjoyed this
It was nice to be out on Chug:)
I’m not religious but I do enjoy seeing old chapels/churches. Have you been to the lovely little Saxon church in Bradford-on-Avon? Dates from 700AD
Same for me, no I've not seen that church but when I'm next down that way I'll try and find it
And of course there’s a fantastic Tithe barn there too
I can see why that would be haunted sandy as that looks like a super old chapel and out in the sticks too still nice to view 👍♥️😉
It things like this that make England, England:)
That freaked me out sandy! If you used a green rubber handled pump here in north America then you just put diesel in your gasoline bike.😂
Nice to see Sandy, I do the same thing locally too. Don't forget though, it's an offence to use your camera on the filling station forecourt.
Oh I didn't know that
@@WiltshireMan Cheers Sandy, I hate to offend. It's on notices & usually stickers on the pumps too, it includes phones of course. Search "Buncefield explosion". Keep up the good work !
@@WiltshireMan No one knows that and no one cares anyway.
great vid sandy
Interesting Sandy, thanks,
Thanks for watching Dave
Could to see chug out again Sandy this is what they were for i just love riding mine , very interesting chapel review it was good , get well sone take care
Thought I was watching uncle Stu's channel at the start
Hahaa he does use the same music sometimes
Unusual for you to go wrong a couple of times, must be because you have been feeling a little off. Wise decision to give the pedals a miss, as your body recovers. What liars the MET office are, eh? My heating came on twice during May because it was so cold, especially overnight, which saw me putting the electric blanket on a number of times!!! Stunning old chapel, and the scenery is magical, I love seeing it all fade into blue. Be well mate
Thanks Bry, been feeling a little under the weather, not really bad but just below par, had a test done which came back positive for ecoli so now on antibiotics, went out for a gentle 13 mile bicycle ride tonight, all good:)
@@WiltshireMan Wonder where you got that, kissing that little baby maybe? Glad to hear you have recovered mate
@@TheRamblingsofBry It all started around the time I went on the ride to the Long barrows Bry, I got dehydrated and possibly immune system was low, didn't sleep well either. Sleeping much better now thankfully
@@WiltshireMan You are fit enough to bounce back from most things, but do rest sometimes, allow the body to heal. I saw Dickie come to your rescue recently, so maybe this has been lurking in your system for a bit?
Great video, Thanks.....
I don't know where the Met Office gets its statistics from but we had to have the heating on for most of May, it was unpleasantly cold here on the east coast of northern England.
Please visit the Church of St John the Baptist in Inglesham Sandy. You won't regret it
I've walked past it a couple of times i the past, but I'll go back at some point for sure :) ruclips.net/video/6hICCrGDqsU/видео.htmlsi=ik2WqItdKPHIkEXh&t=1255
good vid out on about thanks lee
Chapel is fantastic!
Sandy, what helmet are you wearing ? Cheers
Duo Syncrony, cheap as chips helmet
how thick were those flint walls!
I would say a good 3 foot Steve
Veey nice video 😊
🎣👍👍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍👍👍
This church looks very like all 13:th century churches here in Sweden. The double entrances are for men and women. Women entered from the north passage, and men from the south. The temples are always oriented west - east. Thanks.
Churches in England are mostly orientated West-East, with the congregation facing east to pray. Many smaller and/or newer churches and chapels do not follow this tradition. This particular building ceased to be used as a consecrated chapel in 1547 and for much of its life since then, was used as a barn.
Alas, "chapels of ease" are all too common nowadays as there aren't enough priests available to serve individual churches.
🌹🌹👍👍❤❤
any chance of you bieng accepted into the proiesthood are long gone
Good video don't be buying petrol when you have push bikes haha.
I do actually prefer to cycle but motorcycle is also a lot of fun and a great way to get about especially when pushed for time
Hope the bug soon goes away !. When you look back through history , it often reveals how the ' peasants' were treated by the so called lords of the manor , absolutely disgusting in my view. But, hey ho !.
I enjoyed this video, very interesting. Its mad to think it was used as a barn for a time.
I also tried your tip of putting my sleep pad in my sleeping bag and it worked awesome. First time i've spent an entire night on my mat without waking up to get back on it multiple times on a camp. Thank you! 🫡
Glad that tip worked for you, I think it works with thin mats but not thicker ones
