Some are already giving you wrong info on this, so I'll let you know the real story. Pentatonix had booked professional studio time to record this song AND shoot the video. The studio booking fell thru at the last minute, so they decided to record the song in a bedroom closet and shoot the video in Avi & Kevin's kitchen using an iPad. The total shooting budget was $400...although that didn't include post-production and editing costs. Kevin had to wear the goggles because he couldn't wear the contacts. The single became their first international hit, the video went super-viral, and they won their first Grammy. As a result, Sony promoted them from the small Madison Gate label all the way up to RCA.
Thank you for providing correct information on this. So many untruths, or let's say partial truths, circulate about PTX, and one of the persistent ones is "They made Daft Punk for $400." As you say, that was the budget for the day -- they didn't then stiff Fifgen for the very sophisticated audio and video mixing and editing. PTX are awesome enough to stand on their merits without embroidery of the story.
@@DelGuy03 I agree that they don’t need a story but it’s not like anyone made this up and there is no bad intent. Plus, Scott even mentioned shooting and recording the video in an appt and closet or something. I don’t remember the exact wording. So hearing him say that kind of just reinforced
They mentioned Run To You at the end there. Highly recommend you watch that one. Not a ton of reactors do it and it's possibly the most stunning song i've ever heard
I second that recommendation. It's an original that was written by Avi and Kevin (mostly Avi, apparently), with arrangement help from Ben Bram. It's emotional, the dissonances are beautiful (a big Avi touch), and the video itself was well-produced.
@@chrissynovful I'm with you regarding Avi. My favorite "Standing By" video is this one in Birmingham - a good mix and close-ups as he sings. ruclips.net/video/iASS_9-xbrk/видео.html

The skip/scratch is actually something they did for the first time during the Sing-Off, the television reality competition that launched them. But they did a *much* better job of it this time! I think this is a really good first or perhaps second video for new Pentaholics because it's easy to tell who is making which note or sound.
Please do Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. They won their 2nd Grammy for it. They use no instruments, the song has no words. Hmmm?Hmm? Sounds of silence, Bohemian Rhapsody Can you feel the love tonight.

Pentatonix is by far my favorite A' Cappela band. I discovered Your reaction channel recently and became a new subscriber immediately. XD The fact that You have Discord makes me want to join it too. ;)
Using shots of their individual faces in various combinations is kind of a trademark of theirs. Although they do it fairly often, somehow its different and new every time!
the first time I heard this I thought the repeats and reverbs were post-production, but I came across a live version, and it was certainly eye-opening.. they are amazing.
This was recorded in a closet of an apartment that Avi and Kevin shared. Kevin wasn't able to tolerate the contacts at all hence the shades. This song was rheir first Grammy. People don't believe they can do this one live someone posted a vid of them singing this song live at a school meeting.
Great reaction again, man! This one is always fun to watch. I'm an Avi-era Pentaholic, so it's always good to see these. When you get the chance you should check out his solo work. Keep on keepin' on!
Dimash and Pentatonix are my favorites! Pentatonix are amazing and their acapella is unbelievable!!! Could you react to their Bohemian Rhapsody please?
Liked and Subscribed......welcome to the Video Rabbit hole for PTX.....really be blown away by a Corob with Todrick Hall two songs The Wizard of Ahhhs and also Black and White both feature members from PTX! I have also shared you to the FB group Pentaholics.
I agree that you need to react to Avi's original solo work. His catalog of music is varied in genres and textures, and he typically does all the vocals and sounds. He doesn't limit himself to a cappella, and uses guitar, piano, etc to fill out the sound in layers. My favorite Avi piece for hearing how masterful he is at layering is his original "Get Down". Here's the link to the official audio-only version, the best for hearing the layers that build throughout. ruclips.net/video/sJpMZTI0phY/видео.html
I have watched so many reaction videos to this, and in every single one, jaws are dropped, and dancing ensues with huge smiles. It’s physically impossible to sit still and watch/listen to this!
Really enjoyed your reaction and I just subbed. They won their first Grammy for this song basically for their creativity. More PTX please. Run to you was suggested at the end of the video and it is amazing!!!!
Liked and subscribed...One of my fav videos from the Original PTX....I appreciate your comments on Avi so much....I'll watch anything you do with Avi in it lol. Love your analysis of this video. Kevin & Avi shared and apartment where they filmed it. There is a video out there showing some of it. They lined a closet in black and used ring light and each member recorded their bit. Ben Bram did the editing and produced this amazing video. He is a genius too. Avi had sore eyes for weeks...Kevin couldn't tolerate them so he wore eye shield. Love how you picked up just how much Avi does in this apart from his heart thumping bass. Waiving from Australia
Kevin was supposed to wear the contacts too, but his eyes were completely rejecting them, in which they turned to making him a super dope set of glasses
I smiled the whole time just watching you smile from ear to ear. If you love them you should definitely check out Bohemian Rhapsody by them. Love your reactions as always.
Seeing as you love a capella, have you seen/heard Sacramento State Jazz Choir doing "All Along The Watchtower", some years ago? It was arranged while the Battlestar Galactica reboot was airing, and done in the arabesque style of the show's theme. Well worth reacting to.
Im honestly shocked you hadn't seen this one GKD considering this was one of the songs they went crazy popular with. They always kill it vocally But ya visually this video was absolutely stunning...and its creation was even more amazing if the stories in the comments here I are to be believed.
THEIR "RUN TO YOU" SONG/VIDEO IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I WAS EXPECTING A DIFFERENT RUN TO YOU BY WHITNEY HOUSTON, BUT THEIR SONG IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT. GOTTA REACT TO IT IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY. ENJOY YOUR REACTION ALOT. BILLY BOY
Run to You is a great suggestion! So is Havana, Can you Feel the Love Tonight?, and taking it all the way up to the present, check out their 90's Dance Music Medley. Way Cool!
I like all of Pentatonix's songs. But I love their versions of John Lennon Imagine and Queen Bohemian Rhapsody. Please have a look at these two videos.
Agree with you on Tom and Pentatonix. All of the members of PTX are awesome, but I don't think Kevin gets as much credit as he deserves. If you haven't already, you should check out his Down (Marian Hill Kover) to see his various talents.
Great reaction! So nice to watch someone genuinely affected by their talent and creativity. I'm totally here for more PTX! If you want to watch them at their laid-back best, just one-take wonders that will take your breath away, I suggest "Evolution of Michael Jackson" and their cover of Kiiara's "Gold." Mitch delivers a vocal chop in the latter that Kiiara needed digital help to produce.
Since you are already fairly familiar with PTX, you should watch Season 3 of the Sing Off (can find the episodes on YT) and see how they started. (fyi, VoicePlay and Home Free have been on that show; Season 4 i think).
Loved your reaction subscribed in hopes of more PTX reactions. Also Avi has solo work that is stunning! If you want to see their evolution I recommend watching their performances on season 3 of The Sing Off. Other amazing videos are covers Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Can't Hold Us, Can't Help Falling in Love, No, Problem, Aha, Say Something. Other Grammy award winning covers Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy ( a song with no words done by a group with no instruments) and Jolene. Originals Can't Sleep Love, Run to You, Love Again, Standing By, Light in the Hallway.

Agreed, it is beyond gorgeous and their original song.
