As an OG Tamiya kid, you got it spot on. My fleet is mainly Clod Busters, Blackfoots, and Falcons with a few crawlers tossed in. Every single step of a Tamiya build is smiles for miles. Well, except for when you're building a Clod transmission and those E clips go flying. They're not the most durable. Or the fastest. Or the most scale. But we love them anyway. And if you don't understand the appeal, you'd have to build one to get it. I remember the first time I built my own RC from a box of sprues and screws and watched it tear up the back yard. It blew my mind how much better it performed than the Radio Shack RCs I would get for Christmas. I want every kid that's into the hobby to have that same experience of "holy heck, I MADE THAT!"
Great review!! Just picked one of these up. Having built many Tamiya kits over the past 30+ years, I expect the same precise instructions and superb fit and finish from this model. Tamiya has been a steady presents in the r/c world for over 40 years looong before almost all of these other companies that make trail trucks/rock crawlers were around so I respect Tamiya for their longevity and willingness to get into the solid axle/4-link trail truck game.
I have a Tamiya Clodbuster shell painted up like the Fall Guy truck on my CC01 will be a logical step to fit it too a CC02. Had to mod the CC01's wheelbase a little but heard the CC02's is adjustable. So find yourself an old Tamiya hard shell is my suggestion!
Think I might treat myself to a lil Tamiya kit for Christmas, no 3D printing or sanding, sanding and then more sanding and would be nice to have instructions lol
my cc01 fell off a massive cliff n only killed a servo. it bounced almost as high as the cliff it drove off, when it hit the bottom lol. drove it outta there as I couldn't get down to where it was safely managed to get it back to a place I could go inspect it. all it did was kill a cheap servo. I've not used it much since. but it was fun when I did use it. I think I'll resurrect it after watching this....maybe this time ill lock the back axle so it don't roll away so easy near cliffs.
I love that blue you put on there! Very nice! A hardbody suggestion you say? Does it have to be pre made or can I suggest to you a custom made hard body from styrene? If the latter, may I suggest putting on a mock up of the very first Unimog body style on there? The 411 I think it was called. I think it would look cool on there. Not too many RCers out there with a custom Unimog 411 body on there chassis.
i love tamiyas, my first ever rc was a TL01. iv recently replaced it after yeeears with a TT02. atm im debating on getting a CC01 or CC02. any suggestions?
XV01 ftw! I think Tamiya does a much better job with their rally chassis. So much fun, and I haven’t seen anything better. CC02 is cool, but it’s not really a crawler.
There will be a _lot_ of metal hop ups coming out for this chassis in the future. Matt: You need a driver figure. Look at all the cool figures Matteo's RC put in his cars/trucks. Kudos to you detailing the G wagon so beautiful :)
I am guessing since it will take the Hop Up CR01 axle shafts it will accept the stock CR01's too? I have a extra set laying around. Also, anyone have a list of bearing size it takes? Or does it include a set?
I got my CC01 with a pajero body almost a year ago & here’s the cc02. I would have waited if I knew they’d be launching the cc02 this year, any way I enjoyed my cc01 build, it was an awesome experience and the painting part for me was the toughest. I’ve been upgrading my cc01 every month and now its turned into one amazing crawler and a trail runner combo thanks to Holmes hobbies motor, I’m having a blast 👻. I’d love it if u put on a Tamiya Defender D90 body on it, don’t know if the wheel base is the same for cc02.
Matt, everyone had something to say about the new CC-02... Myself included. 😳 You just summed it up better than ANYONE! 'It's the Tamiya Way" 😊 Looking at it DONE and running, I can now appreciate that the Suspension WORKS! Unlike the CC-01, that just floats and bounces (out of the box anyway). I mentioned the Elephant in the room in your Build Video... 4 Link AND CMS! 😳 No. If the Aftermarket can supply anything - an Axle Mounted Servo would be a Performance adder... Yeah I know, step backwards. But it would be buried so far in the Hood - it WOULDN'T be offensive! 😉 IF you find that the PLASTIC Main Frame Rails aren't an issue, then Metal replacements can wait. And what you said about the Silver Can Motor, I concur. I've never replaced a standard Mabuchi... And I've had a 25t Sport Tuned Motor in 3 Rigs, including a Rally Racer, for over 12 years! The only Aftermarket Motor that has come close, is my Holmes Hobbies 30t Handwound. Carmine ✈🚂🚙
I think it's good they went with dual solid axle for the 02, means that we get an awesome scale solid axle 4x4 chassis with an adjustable wheelbase. Top stuff 💪
I mean, I'm not sure why anyone would want to rock crawl this rig (there's only a million other crawlers on the market anyway 🙄). Tamiya designed this kit for 'scale running'. Thank God, a real scale 4x4 solid axle kit (with open diffs etc), finally. That's the Tamiya way 😁💪 P.S. I just ordered one 😎
Dont forget that CC means Cross Country !!! Its not a full crawler. It can get a light crawler whit Hop ups. But the basic chassis Looks better then a CC 01 chassis for offroad use.
I applaud you for trying the CC02, not my cup 'O Joe, but hey. It did look like either the rear axle or the rear body was moving side to side quite a bit. Oh ya, "the Tamiya way" 😂
The chassi self seems to be very interesting..the biggest problem is the Axles especially in the front with the steering angle. I would try to fit mst axels on in and the long pajero body from loops.. And if this all walks is the only fail to paint it pink🤣🤣😂😂
wow Matt! NOT the review i expected! well done. I have been a tamiya fan since im 12 yrs old. love the " new tamiya kit smell"!! anyhow, not a g wagon fan but you made it look good. will the clodbuster body fit???
I love it nice review does it come with bearings or is it standard Tamiya 😁 bar none Tamiya is my all time favorite brand .if I could only have one RC it would be a clod buster . Lucky for me that's not the case lol I totally agree RC is all about the smiles I've said it for years . So there is no pin hole with a plug in the axle like the cr01? How far down do you have to strip the axle to lock and unlock the diffs ? I think an old Willis Jeep would be awesome on this truck .
Fun looking build!!! It does need a hard body like the jeep cherokee one they make and metal gears I thought it said it had a metal chassis rail I see how they got around that in the video 😐
If you make another one of such nice vids about Tamiya, you might lure me into building one for myself. Which I wouldn't ever do naturally (uninfluenced)
Hi Matt, any chance you could do another run video, but really challenge it, take it to the limit, one more time lol I would love to know how hard you could push it. I’m not really a fan of actual rock crawling, too much vehicle sympathy. But I would like to see what it can do over loose gravel, sand, soil ,roots and even rocks ............. this is the tamiya way. 😎👍👍👍👍👍
I own couple doesens tamiya kits, and the tamiya kits are all I got(never had a chance to get non tamiya kits), So, I know the truth of what you mean for "THE TAMIYA'S WAY", and I can feel that you were trying pretty hard to be a nice gentle man for this review... 🤭
Well, it's nice to know someone still in love to tamiya, so do I😊 But I am still struggling to get the cc02 or not, at least not for the price now... Anyway, love your review, and love the color on your G500, good job! 😁
Brushless motor get a new g500 body paint a different color put the lights in and get sound kit with sound of the real engine noises of the real g500 engine do an interior lit up dashboard moving steering wheel moving windshield wipers turn signals reverse lights and hope they make metal frame rails eventually as a hop up for it and metal wheels for it eventually a 2-3 speed gearbox hop up for it that will act like an actual like it an automatic transmission with paddle shifter gearbox option.
You nailed it on point Matt! The Tamiya way - and I love it! Great review!
Thank you Matteo! I'm following your build as well!
It's so true, Tamiya is it's own thing and it is a good thing. Always have fun with Tamiya.

Hope you have the e-clip tool! One of the best investments of all time!
You're not a true RC hobbyist if you've never built a Tamiya kit. That's the RC way. lol
Finally a tamiya ladder frame chassis. Ironically, the new G-Class has the chassis configuration of the cc-01 with independent front suspension.
Just wait for yeah racing for that sweet blue aluminum hop ups
Tamiya’s are my favorite to build.
I have a lot more Tamiya to come on the channel! Stay tuned!
Very nice. I just got my CC02 and can’t wait to build it
Tamiya kits have always been a blast to build for me, brings the kid out in me every time:) Good stuff!
Awesome video as always! That is the imthatguy way!
Right on! Nothing wrong with The Tamiya Way for something fun and outside the box.
Always enjoy their builds. The small makeup containers with grease or lock-tight. And the instructions are half the fun!!!
That’s the Tamiya way needs to be a shirt
pauls1816 or a bumper sticker on the SBG next sticker pack👍
Great review. Respectful for what it is, yet honest. Great.

It's definitely a Tamiya model, through and through!
I am convinced to get one of these and to go all in on scale details for it. The Unimog body seems ideal for light trails.
I built a konghead recently, i love it, i love TAMIYA.
I think that's why so many people are drawn to Tamiya, because of how unique they are.
Ladies&gentleman i present to you: that’s the tamiya way performed by Matt🥴👍🏼
“That’s the Tamiya’s way” 😆
Think I might treat myself to a lil Tamiya kit for Christmas, no 3D printing or sanding, sanding and then more sanding and would be nice to have instructions lol
Nice job the taymia way has always been cute
Those tamiya tires and wheels fit soo tight!! This is the tamiya way! Lol!😜😜👍👍

solid review. GJ man GJ Tamiya.
I think that a UMM jabato body would be awesome 🐗
Thanks Matt, Sweet rig. I however ordered a TT-02 WRX Monte Carlo. Can't wait to build it. CC-02 , SWEET!✌️👍
✌🏻😎🏴You done an awesome job on that kit. It was fun in the chat while you was building too. & I Love the paint job. That’s The SBG Way
Your decal worked really neatly
The hardest thing is adding decals. haha
Y’all can buy this truck on Asia tees for $250 right now if your looking for one
I'm restoring an abused CC02 and all I can hear is your voice saying "This is the way" as I scratch my head during the rebuild.
I love that blue you put on there! Very nice! A hardbody suggestion you say? Does it have to be pre made or can I suggest to you a custom made hard body from styrene? the body shakes quiet a lot, a good side skid bar will be able to fix that
Looks amazing Matt! 76 Ford Bronco half cab would be interesting🤔 Even better, a Brat😍
fun little truck. It might be interesting with a Citroen 2cv body
Lol he said its not as smooth as most crawlers "but thats not tamiyas way" lol😂😂
Build time : body >> chassis. That's the Tamiya way. :)
There will be a _lot_ of metal hop ups coming out for this chassis in the future.

I like to build as stock first, then add things later on, like drivers.
Hi, I would like to see new Suzuki Jimny body on this chassis. I wish Tamiya would make it.
looks great.... nice work. thanks for sharing
TRX4 G500 is the shit baby 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's a Shit Baby?! I'm confused.
Matt did you use the Lexan paint on the plastic tire cover and mirrors? Good job looks amazing.
I sure did! Thanks for watching!
I am guessing since it will take the Hop Up CR01 axle shafts it will accept the stock CR01's too? I have a extra set laying around.
Also, anyone have a list of bearing size it takes? Or does it include a set?
Ardius Rams! I believe that comment was made during the live stream build video.

I vote Cc01 crv hard body.

Dont forget that CC means Cross Country !!! Its not a full crawler. It can get a light crawler whit Hop ups. But the basic chassis Looks better then a CC 01 chassis for offroad use.
short wheelbase looks like a perfect platform for a scratch built suzuki samurai
You can scratch build a suzuki or look at the page from jsscale.net. They got the open SWB, the metal roof SWB and the hardtop LWB.
This is the way🤖
Just wondering CC01 Pajero body can fit on CC02
I applaud you for trying the CC02, not my cup 'O Joe, but hey. It did look like either the rear axle or the rear body was moving side to side quite a bit. Oh ya, "the Tamiya way" 😂
First
I have to say I'm lying.
Second, Great video!
This will be a good project Pajero evo Rally car build.
I saw a red orange 4runner behind you. Can you talk about it?
I’ve talked about it in countless other videos. Check out the What’s on the Bench series.
That's one serious crawler;)
The chassi self seems to be very interesting..the biggest problem is the Axles especially in the front with the steering angle. I would try to fit mst axels on in and the long pajero body from loops.. And if this all walks is the only fail to paint it pink🤣🤣😂😂

Hi Friend. Is possible change the body?
I want to buy one, but I prefer the Land Rover Defender 90 body
Of course, any body you like provided it matches the wheelbase and track width.

No bearings are included. Axles should be completely dissembled to swap between locked & unlocked.
Fun looking build!!! It does need a hard body like the jeep cherokee one they make and metal gears I thought it said it had a metal chassis rail I see how they got around that in the video 😐
Hai... Can you use MN d90 hardbody shell on it?
Not familiar with that body.
@@scalebuildersguild this cheap china 1/12 MN d90 car ruclips.net/video/3s935pIQPwQ/видео.html wonder if it fit
That brown SUV up left shelf, what is it?
Not brown. Inferno Red 5th gen 4Runner.
Aha! Yes! Thank you. And do you have some video where you show a bit more of it?
What chassi is it?
You should make it into a new suzuki jimny 👍
I was already wondering when we will see the car completed.
Can't wait to see other body options popping up.
Btw.. First!! 😎
If you make another one of such nice vids about Tamiya, you might lure me into building one for myself. Which I wouldn't ever do naturally (uninfluenced)

If there’s no snow in the forecast, absolutely.
CC02 wheelbase is the same as the clodbuster's body. Do that!
Whats the story on that awesome looking servo horn?
Tamiya Servo Saver Hop-up.
It's a great video. It's too hard for me to take a video, too.
Great review. Can't wait to see the body you choose. Are there files for a CJ-7 Renegade? That would be pretty cool. -"Angry" Dave
Hehe superb review sir! Thats the tamiya way! Hahaha
Hopefully we see some new hard body versions soon. The Tamiya way. LOL.
I've been looking at this truck. For my first Tamiya.. maybe In the upcoming.. looking forward to .. NC MOUNTAINS back yard RC.AND MORE. 🏞
I think you need to hit up noob to see if he can make an AMC Eagle body for it
You could call it "Erglemahgerd!"
Turn it into a Lada Niva 😁
