- Sometimes its better to go against the status quo...but how did that fare for Glover?
In this vid we're gonna be dissecting one of the weirdest platformers on the N64, a difficult game that took a strange approach to compete with the likes of Mario and Banjo. - Игры
This popped in my recommendations yet only has 415 views? underrated
Sadly Glover has yet to go mainstream, we can only hope!
at this point i'm at least 90% convinced that glover is a shared mass hallucination and not a real game, since practically everyone seems to have the same exact memory of renting it from Blockbuster that one time as a kid
True.
I’m actually I happened to have it as a toddler 🤓
I feel sorry for anyone else who fell victim to this game's deceptive marketing. 😆😉
I actually had the bought cartridge. Maybe I'm the only one. I do however have a daikatana cart that may or may not have ever been returned
@@mahsheenman lmao what? What deceptive marketing
I love Glover and I'm upset that the sequel was cancelled.
Rofl idk why but my mom bought this game for my sister and me when we were kids. My aunt used to stay in our apartment for hoursssss playing with us after work. I remember us cracking up over the ridiculous ass ways we'd lose the ball after working so hard rofl. I need to play it again.
I actually did beat Glover, back in the day, over multiple rental periods from the local video store.
I regret not buying it. It was an amazing game.
Good on you for not giving in to cheat codes like I did! I'll admit I still havent unlocked the minigames legit yet... it's on the todo list
Funny story about you saying there can't be a remaster, because, as of this writing, a remaster is hitting Steam in five days, lol
This game is actually very easy once you learned the levels.
I can speedrun this game blindfolded I know it like the back of my glove
I guess you could say Glover is the dark souls of early 3d platformers
I must of been an above average player for this game. I didn't find it so difficult that I'd get frustrated or couldn't beat it. In fact I've 100%'d this game, but I've seen other people play it and struggle to even get through the tutorial or first couple levels. xD I loved this game as a kid myself though. Also I wouldn't say that the game controls were necessarily bad or not as tight as other games, more so that it's handling is difficult and required a bit more concentration to really hone in the precision. I was able to get through it without dying more than a couple times, but I've seen others die over and over and over again at the same spots with 70% of a level left. I'd get more frustrated watching others play it than playing it myself. xD
Glover isn’t a guilty pleasure, for me, it is life.
Glover? Guilty pleasure? You trippin. Guilt pleasure is Barbie Explorer for PS1
Awesome video. Referring to the beginning, funnily enough I think Pokemon Sword might be my guilty pleasure despite it coming out a bit over a year ago haha
Lmao I'm actually the same with sword and shield. I know its TECHNICALLY mediocre but I still play the hell out of it...I just love pokemon too much
I grew up and loved Glover.
It might not have aged as well as other N64 games, but I still think it’s worth a try.
Personally, I always enjoyed this game. As a kid, I didn't find it exceedingly difficult, though I never did get past the Frankenstein boss, but that was only because I couldn't figure out what to do. I have been aware of this game's lackluster reputation for a while now, but I felt like it got a little too much undeserved hate. Yes, it was clumsy, and yes, the hard-locked 20 fps is... sort of grating to go back to sometimes. But I personally still enjoyed the unique gameplay and puzzles, as well as the music of course. I really do wish this game would get a decent remaster; one that works out the framerate limit, at the very least.
And yes, I am aware of the... port on Steam. But supposedly it doesn't really solve most of those issues, and the company that handled it is notoriously scummy and doesn't deserve your money (on top of the fact that supposedly the features they promised either weren't delivered upon, or were extremely broken, such as the framerate limit removal). Which is a shame, because I believe they own the rights to it now, so it's unlikely we'll see a good remaster any time soon.
I wish this game had a decompilation effort like super Mario 64 did.
Not gonna lie...I kinda wanted this game as a kid, since I saw it on TV commercials, but my family hasnt been able to find it. But now that dream is about to become a reality, thanks to the upcoming remaster.
Piko interactive is remastering Glover 64 and releasing it on steam platform first and then on other platforms in 2021. Plus The are working finishing Glover 2.
No shit? That sounds like a great time.
*me who has the 64 game* mhhh noted
@@BlueAizu_ Your experience with Piko interactive games doesn't surprise me. I've heard they don't care about quality of the games they are releasing. From my perspective Piko interactive are a bunch of trolls that most never keep their promises on their projects. They tweeted not too long ago about finishing Glover 2. When I asked them about the project they said "we didn't announce such things" long those lines. Its a shame really because another developer was interested in finishing Glover 2 but Piko interactive shut down that idea. Since Piko owns the IP and rights on Glover. I won't be buying anything from them. Piko interactive is a very shady game developer. I could stay clear away from them. 😒🙄🤬
@@BlueAizu_ Same here. My childhood System was Nintendo 64. I grew up with playing Glover. It was hard but fun. I loved the cool cheat codes that the game had. Its disappointing that Piko did a shady port job. Its not like they rebuild the game from the ground up. How is it possible to mess up? Its ridiculous. They should just give the Glover IP to a real developer. Also, the reason why they bunched the re-release is because Piko interactive don't hire real game developers they hire hackers to work on their projects. That would explain why their are issues with the game. 🙄
Just beat it - i love this video because i feel the same way. Its not a great game, but its a captivating and fun one. Ive basically written off any new games to go back and live through the childhood games i missed. And its been a blast! Honestly while new games are impressive, i just have way more fun with these types of older games.
Great video. I'm a huge Glover fan.
They exist? The prophecy said it wasn't possible!
Glover made me never look at my hands and body the same way ever again
Funny you say not anytime soon and we're 10 days away from a pc port releasing on steam
I beat Glover during a day I had without internet. I actually 100%'d it with like 40 lives to spare. I don't think the controls are bad; they're unique. Once you learn them you can move through levels at startling paces (if you ever want to be bewildered, check out a Glover all levels speed run).
Well it looks like it's finally coming to Switch.
0:25 something about it fascinates me too, it's been my special interest for almost 2 years
Glover's controls are not hard, the game itself is hard, the controls are fine. It's basic marble game physics. that switches to basic platformer when you let go of the ball. Gettin' real tired of that smooth brain excuse everytime I talk to anyone about this game.

Where did you get the idea that the game was so brutally hard that you need cheat codes to get through it comfortably? Sure rolling the ball can get pretty stressful but it never made the game brutally difficult, you just gotta take it differently compared to more orthodox platformers.
This game isn't that hard!
It's easy once you learn the levels.
I wonder if he played through the game thinking he needed to carry the ball everywhere as well. There are times where's it's just plain better to leave it behind, and maybe meet with it at a checkpoint from the menu. Scouting out obstacles and garabs is pretty vital.
as a kid I spent hours walking in circles in the first area, with no idea how to use the controls. Idk if i missed the new game tutorial or what, but the game is very very difficult to understand or progress in, unless you directly and constantly follow the directions
Is it difficult compared to games these days? maybe not. but most games, by that time, were much much more accessible
@@ETHANR26 Yeah, the game had a tutorial. You can access it with the main menu before you select a file or in the well in front of the castle. Even child me knew to check out the well first.
@@mrsuperheatran2794 when I played this game, I would usually have the ball on me most of the time for pure funsies, only putting it down when I have to.
When the Smash Bros boss got a solo game 😅
Imagine having multiplayer with this game. I mean there IS a 2nd hand…
the 2nd hand is the villain idiot
As a kid I thought glover was the glove of mario
This was my very first Nintendo 64 game.
Played Glover as a kid on my brothers n64, this game really felt like weird fever dream man
I want Glover in Smash Bros
Lore of Why Glover 64 Was the ANTITHESIS of Super Mario 64 momentum 100
I love glover! Its one of my favorite n64 games!
The Frankenstein boss was hell 😂
Piko interactive has the rights to Glover. They are finishing the development of Glover 2. The game got cancelled years ago by Hasbro interactive.
Eh?? Are they actually? I haven't been able to find it
I wish piko interactive did not have the rights to this game at all, this game should have been public domain. It would've been better if this game received a decompilation effort like sm64 did.
this is also a great game to test video output of your n64 after mod work/external video upscalers
Great video, looking forward to the next video
Thanks a lot for watching, I'm upgrading my gear soon so audio quality will be improving!
WHERE IS THE FARTING CHICKEN? It was there I swear!
great video. seems like everyone had pretty much the same experience with this game. frustrating and objectively bad compared to the mainstream platformers but, with a special allure that kept you wanting to explore further. i played it quite a bit as a kid but definitely never beat it until a few years ago. might attempt 100% someday
It's neither frustrating or "bad" the game is still very playable once you learn or get accustomed to how everything works. This is starting to sound like another case of younger people(allegedly) not understanding how to play the original Super Mario Bros on the nes, & thinking that it's overly difficult to understand, when it's a very basic game, or Mike Tyson not being able to beat glass Joe.
@@xeschire706 i mean, i was a kid smack dab in the middle of the N64 era so its not really before my time or anything. i had fun with it then but, not as much as i did with mario 64 due to the less intuitive controls.
What would you do if Glover get's in Smash?
He's already a series staple! Glover is CLEARLY master hand's origin story
This aged really bad
I played glover with Daniel glover then, he had hard boiled eggs in his pocket
Was that a Skooks reference at 7:40 ? I'm subscribing just for that lol
This game is not as bad as the internet tries to make it sound. Yes it hass a lot of jank but I actually appreciate the difficulty the camera can use some work 100 percent and I can see how it could ruin the game for people but that should not discourage you from playing it. Castlevania legacy of darkness has a bad camera and it's one of my favorite games. I like the fact that glover isn't your typical if you take damage you die, if the ball gets destroyed you lose also and I like how that puts you at high risk for failure because it's not just about you surviving but you and the ball so you need to plan carefully how you get through the world. If you think about it this game is one giant escort mission but it's not boring like a lot of escort missions.
My first complete in box game I just got for my n64 I’ve loved glover for years and years. Mad the sequel got canceled, but I’ve been able to play the prototype Rom so it’s all good I guess.
I beat it without cheated xD then again I owned it lol
I think he would make a good ssb game character
7:41 maybe the dinosaur boss is the sheriff
my first guilty pleasure game was probably mojo for Xbox and ps2
Great vid
My guilty pleasure game is quest 64. Shame on me.
I actually got my hands on a quest64 cartridge last month. The game feels like a creepy pasta, its so eerie haha
Glover is not that hard a game, it seems like people only claim it's hard is because they won't learn, or even out right refuse to get accustomed to the controls & overall gameplay mechanics. It sounds like some people that played this game subconsciously expect it to play exactly like sm64 & not be different in anyway, or otherwise different equal bad because it means learning to approach things differently from the way I'm use to, just a strong case of the einstellung effect, complete with mental laziness on the part of those players.
If you get accustomed to the games controls & mechanics this game is actually the easiest platformer on this console, it's entirely geared for the casual player, not the advanced one. I got fully accustomed to this games controls & mechanics since I was 8 yrs old, & beaten this games many times, once I figured out how to defeat that Frankenstein's monster boss in the fortress of fear world, & that's without cheatcodes btw. I had a blast, I wish the entrence to the very top of the crystal castle had a secret bonus world, on top of more eastereggs.
You guys had cheat codes!?
A sequel or reboot would have been cool on DS, or even mobile.
Do a Glover 2 video.
Not sure myself but I feel it might be Croc or Boshi 7:43
Ha, I feel like Croc would be more likely considering what those ice levels were like!
Good game
A lot of oddly fond memories
Not for the Carnival level
Made me want to drink bleach with the level design, obnoxiously bright colors, and god awful music
Well that comment about a remaster didn’t age well.
Mr. Tip is the HOMIE!!
Nice danganronpa thumbnail.
super mario 64 is NOT a perfect game
Kaze Emanuar proved that many times over! XD sm64 is more jank than people make it out to be. 😂
Glover was so cute
Creaking Skull
I'm sorry I really like this game I don't agree but you're allowed to have your own opinion just like I'm allowed to have my own opinion I really like Glover
I think fortnite is my guilty pleasure game because the internet despises it so much
The wwe adds were great
Best game ever!!
