I am just a couple minutes into the video. I paused it to write this: If you can turn those neglected rust buckets into something resembling their previous beauty...I will be greatly impressed! By the way, at 63, recently retired office worker. I am trying to learn as much as I can about restoring beautiful cars. It's depressing knowing I will not live long enough to do anything close to what I am sure you can do, but it's very enjoyable to tinker on my project car 😊.
im 27 and have restored a 79 Transam, i learned how to do proper paintjobs and learned bodywork, last summer, also i learned how to build engines a while back, doesnt matter your age, what id suggest is go hangout at local cruise nights and make soem friends and connections, you never know what you can find someone you make friends with could be willing to help you and show you how to do things, your age or younger, all the best
Watching you guys tinker, baby, beg, cajole, plead that engine to life remninds me of me and my dad. I was about 9yrs old,Dad dragged me out to field in the dead of winter (rural maine is bitterly cold) In the field were some ford trucks and cars..old..Dad was a Ford guy and needed an engine for his 62 F100 work truck..no money,no more spare engines in storage. Some guy told my dad if he could get an engine running in those junkers that he could have them. We spent 8 days in that field getting 3 '312 Y blocks going and 3 292 Y blocks going...that old farmer told my dad he could keep them all except a 312 which the farmer wanted for his 56 Tbird. Its great watching you guys
289 has 3 bolts on the crank pulley. 302 has 4 bolts on the crank pulley. You can put 302 heads on a 289. So head stamps may be misleading. Best way to know without pulling the starter, is checking the bolts on the crank pulley.
Yeah, if that's a 302, it's not original to that car or the heads were swapped, but later he did say it was a 70's engine, so there we have it. A big giveaway for that to me is it has a 2100 D 2bbl carb (note the big pump on the backside top of the carb). The 2100D was used in the 70's for thermactor emissions cars. My 74 Maverick Grabber had one when I got it. I swapped it for a standard 2100.
I'm glad I got mine finished finally since purchasing the abandoned vehicle in a grass field back in 2003 and completing it in 2012. 65 Fastback 289. Just love it still all fresh and a quick pony.
Always liked the body style of the'67' stang fastback, sleek and futuristic ,made even more famous with the movie "Bullit" with Steve McQueen. Had a chance to buy one with straight 6 in the mid 70's for $400. That needed a paint job and some TLC,decent body, another time I had my head up my a$$ and let it slip out of my hands.
Wow, i am happy i came across your channel. Shame you are not closer. My 68 road runner needs attention. My MS prevents me from wrenching much anymore. Hard to find mechanics who understand the old hotrods
A fellow Lefty, Southpaw that is, and now I know ordering parts ahead of time is bad luck ! I've done that for my motorcycles and scooters and end up wasting money and having spare parts laying around that I may never use. I'll remember that. I still hav e an hour to go, you guys just unlocked the motor, so now to see what happens next. BTW, Those Prime Welders look AWESOME and the prices are amazing. I see why you love it. I know how to solder well, but never welded and don't need one, but it would be cool to have around for broken wheelbarrow, etc.
It is such a great idea and concept of which someone else has already been doing . No matter what or how you try and spin it ... What happened to coming up with your own ideas... I guess it becomes to much to do or work ... Thats like showing up to a costume party but someone else has already there dressed up as fonzy...
The way the valve train looked and the lack of oil inside valve covers it looked like it was rebuilt just before parked. Nickname this one Crunchy as it let out some crunch noises when letting it down off that jack.
MY REGARDS TO ALL OF YOU ,I LOVE YOUR VÍDEOS. 302 OR 289 MUSTANG. I LIKE 351 ENGINE FORD .I HAVE A TRANS AM IT'S FIRE BIRD 1972. HAVE NICE DAYS.ALWAYS.FROM GUATEMALA AMÉRICA CENTRAL SOY MANUEL.
The engine code is on the passenger side on the block. The Vin number will tell you what engine it suppose to come in it. 5 lugs are always v8, while 4 lugs are straight 6.
When I saw the name Iron City Garage, I knew I was going to subscribe. I live in Pittsburgh so seeing you guys here is awesome! Looking forward to more great content. Plus I’m a sucker for Mustangs.
Is both 289 cars? The 4 speed in there is usually the wide ratio. 2.74 low. I get lucky with my 68, a 289 2V, with a 4 v swap and a 351C cobra Jet 4 speed close ratio with the 2.32 low and with the 8 inch 2.79 rear. It could do 100 mph in low, lol. I put it in a 428 CJ car a roller cam Super Stock, I dog ringed it and man that trans was tough, straight cut gears and dog rings in a 1969. A John Wick Black beauty!
A great car (to start and when finished, some of that late middle ground not so much)..... My stepson inherited a VERY NICE one when he was 12, his grandma passed and her car she'd rebuilt herself was willed to him. He's kicking himself tho. While in the Marines, doing the recon sniper scout training, he got a fixation with bullet bikes and SWAPPED it for a Hayabusa or some other such stupid thing. He got deployed, it got stolen, he got a light check....... Now he'd give his left testicle to have his car back. Wisdom comes with age, huh?
I work for a few years with his people in Lancaster call alter bandits and I was trying to explain to him but we could save all the cars but they just rather junk them instead

Te felicito siempre pa' delante señor!
I wish you good health, and I hope you don't think like that. Let's start now by doing the things we love.
Why not, I have started with waaaay less and waaaay worse.
I want to say thanks to you and all those like you who keep these classics from the crusher…..or rusting back in to earth.
"From rust to shine, this process was nothing short of magical! Thank you for sharing! 🌟🚙"

good old days hope this lifestyle does not die, we have to keep it alive
Really cool seeing Shane jump in there and start wrenching on cars

Congratulations on getting it running. I agree. 2 hour videos are a lot. Thank you for sharing!
💯👊👍💕
Born to hang out with a bunch of old yinzers working on reviving a classic mustang, forced to work a corporate gig in dahntahn Pixburgh. Great video!
All of us yinzers will go down to the crick and drink a pop 😂

Sure hate to see them in this condition, but so so glad guys like you try to save them.

Off to a good start! Looking forward to more fastback action. Thanks! 😎👍🏎🐎🏁🏁

Looks like the frame was rusted out. I’m ready to see the finished ride.
As soon as I saw that EGR valve I knew it was at least a 1972-73 engine but then you said D4 block which is 1974 like you said. Love this content!
This show makes me want to put my mustang in a shop it's been in my garage for 9 years

@@tylerroberts7460 what are you talking about lol
As someone who restored a 69 mustang grande that was in much better condition . Good luck and deep pockets are all thats needed ....
Joe is a wealth of knowledge! My Dad told me," Experience is a dear teacher". Joe is the proof to that.
A 2 Hour Vid sounds good to me! Great Channel!
Later model heads, positive stop rocker arms from the 70s, btw 302s came in 68.
Yes it's a 302 and original carb and spacer 260, 289, 302, 351 W are all stamped on the head under the valve cover
Dużo pracy.Podziwiam.Dobry rocznik auta.❤
The way the valve train looked and the lack of oil inside valve covers it looked like it was rebuilt just before parked.

It honestly hurts seeing these beautiful machines in the beginning stages of how they were 😥
Greats groetjes, aan jou persoonlijk ze hé man,!!!
De krachtige Fords mustang"s van de gouden golden tijds jaren, de vroegere icoons jaren van plezier en happens in die america tijds jaren!!
Keep up the good work have a blessed day be safe
Hoping that one day someone will combine a trashed out Mustang with a trashed out Cougar and make a Mercury Cougar fastback.
A contributer to Uncle Tony's Garage named Kiwi is doing that I think .
Late model water pump and radiator post 69 kinda goes along with that 74 theme and 2150 motorcraft carb.
Keeping them on the road!👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love the slots in rhe back )))))
es bonito ver trabajar a señores con toda la experiencia en esos motores felicidades compadre

Damn! If I had known about these old ponies in West by god Virginia I would have driven my happy a$$ from Virginia to snag these up! Good finds!
De grootste Nicolas gates acteur van de movies gone in zestig seconds!!!
There's a door tag with numbers that should match the inner fender I have a fastback so I know
😂 I went to school for framing collision in I ended up working on replacing quarter panels of rusty cars and restoring old cars instead
302. are really good strong engine......351 Cleveland....
Pretty much anything will run as long as the engine is not locked up the question is whether it is worth the trouble or not.
I love the slots in rhe back 😊
'67 is to me THE mustang.
You know that old timer got that old man strength 😂
Stick something in the carburetor open up the butterfly you get more compression
Beautiful car❤
Van fan Peter bollen uit Tienen Vlaams Brabant plaatst België geboren1977!!
The Build sheets on those were randomly placed. Under the bottom of the seats, inside the back rest,
my 66 gt had it under the headliner
I don't know on '67 and '68, but until '66 VIN number is stamped on right side too, closer to the windshield
They must be in love with it
Очень красивая работа.
Привет из России!)
VIN tag in the car, not in a pre 68. I've had 350 + Mustangs, maybe found 3 build sheets.
Rough shape goodluck!
The engine code is on the passenger side on the block. The Vin number will tell you what engine it suppose to come in it. 5 lugs are always v8, while 4 lugs are straight 6.
that's great
Really good editing👍👍👍
old fords never die, there just resting!!!!!if that was gm junk, you would here the lifters and rods knocking loud!!!lol
Like a rocket with boiling grease 😮😂😂😂

That 302 is better than the 289 I used to have a 302 in my 67 coupe. It would rip.

At what point ........... must be the final $$$ I like the 57 on the lift
I always wanted my own scrapyard, I am a woodworker instead.
Veri nice ❤
A friend restored 67 like this. 2006 interior and Shelby GT350 corvette suspension and all new exterior panels. Good luck
Why Corvette suspension?
I didn't realize that the 4.9 l 302 was an option that year
It wasn't available til 68.
289 with 302 Heads!

Neverstart batteries live up to there name
I work for a few years with his people in Lancaster call alter bandits and I was trying to explain to him but we could save all the cars but they just rather junk them instead
My dream car😢😢😢
Бодрые деды - и тачка, и люди!
I love rebuilding American cars but unfortunately there is no position in my country
Pese keep that beuty alive..
ITS Eleanor???
I once dreamed of driving that car, but it was just a dream because I didn't have the money to buy that car😭😭😭😭
The the throttle blades have to be open to get compression. I d pull the carb off.
Лучшая замена тормозов что я видел😂
I'd pull that motor and completely rebuild it. It has seal problems plugs fouled out.
Nice job guys!!
New viewer and subscriber here.👍👍
Thanks for the sub!
Good
I bet Pops has the grip of a grizzly bear
Hermoso 🤩🤩🤩
😂wow〜nikoichidori🎉‼️(1967fordmustangfirstbackmodelonly)
302 means there at least 302 heads… there should also be the date under the 302 (the last 2 digits) example 69 for 1969
ANYTHING CAN RUN WHEN YOU CAN BLOW ENOUGH CASH-
the build sheet should be under the back seat if the mice hasnt got to it first look under the back seat on the inside
or under the headliner
