AEB-L is my favorite steel.. it sharpens easy and is tough with edge stability. I have 2 by LT Wright and 2 by WC Knives and it is my go to steel. I have a magnacut Genesis that I put to the test but for the money I will always be happy with Aeb-l.
I got a bandit last batch you had, I use it for food prep while im out and about and so far I love it. Steel is great and I appreciate the sharp spine to scrape things with it. I didnt know AEB-L was made in the 60's, its crazy that a steel that hold olds up this good these days.
Love my AEB-L Next Gen. This and my Esee 3 are my go to knives. I sharpen the Esee 2-3 times for every 1 time I sharpen the LT Wright. Same sharpening process, but the AEB-L seems to get sharper and stay sharper!
Been edc using aeb-l since 2020.im still loving this as a edc user friendly good steel.carbon steel is tougher but for everyday chores this is highly recommend by me.
Absolutely ! What’s up Isaac ? On the Bradford guardian I ve seen several people say the edge or heat treat was impressive . I personally don’t care about the steel too much as long as it’s cooked good right .
Have the Little Pouter from LT Wright in AEB-L. Love the steel, so easy to sharpen to a razors edge. My Pouter is back at LT Wright for warranty as the scales are coming off.
Great video! I too have an LTWRIGHT knife, the Treckker model. It’s my hunting knife, it holds a phenomenal edge! I’ve skinned an elk with no problem at all, holds an edge like no other. Extremely durable, perfect steel in wet environments!
Extremely underrated steel. Very versatile also with different heat treats. Actually a great steel if you don’t mind a light daily sharpen or rehoning it often.
I picked up a Smith and Sons smaller fixed blade on rep day for my first taste of AEB-L steel and it hasn't let me down. It's kept its edge with moderate use and hasn't shown any real signs of patina/rust/etc even when left uncleaned after use on fruits and veggies.
I would say its got all the best things about carbon steels, with stainless and even more "edge retention" than even "super blue" its tough as you'd ever need it to be, so it be ground very thin, very fine grained, takes killer edges, had great hardenability, so you can have it plenty tough for something like a kitchen knife, much tougher than most steels used in kitchen knives, at 64 rc. If you like low alloy steels but dont want the hassle of corrosion, this is the best. I'm currently grinding a 62 rc aebl kitchen knife that will be thin as a couple sheets of paper behind the edge. A knife like that will cut even when the edge is dull and yet still is very unlikely to chip. Hopefully 62 rc is hard enough to not roll at that thinness. We shall see.
Great video man! I am actually just getting ready to use AEB-L for the first time on a dive knife project and I am curious about its corrosive resistance properties. I haven't found a whole lot on that online. Do you have any info on whether AEB-L would be a good steel for that particular type of blade?
Blade steel matters even when you are just collecting and not using knives. Keep them oiled and wiped down to prevent rust and decay on handles if you don't want to keep buying users or have you collection damaged.
Thank you AEB-L is an underrated steel. I have recently picked up a TKell Raider in AEB-L and have been very impressed so far with its durability, it’s ability to take an edge and sharpening ease. That Bandit is beautiful. Any plans to restock it?
Either AEB-L or LC200N is my favorite steel for knives. I don't mind sharpening my easily sharpened edge as much as I do concerning myself with keeping it dry or it breaking. That said, if you value edge retention above all else, S90V beats S30V and S110V.

Always good to hear long time use and carry

TC often Bradford Guardian Gnecker and puts it to work and he has been very happy with it

LT makes some awesome knives and love their grind work 👍

🙌🙌🙌
My LT Wright Trekker in AEB-L is one of my favorite knives. Bradford also makes several knives like the Guardian 3 in AEB-L.
Always fun learning about all the steels! Thanks 🙂🙏
Thanks Mike C!
Extremely underrated steel. Very versatile also with different heat treats. Actually a great steel if you don’t mind a light daily sharpen or rehoning it often.
Love AEB-L
Just made a Aeb-L puukko knife for myself. Razor sharp edge and nice mirror polish comes easy.
I've always been interested in trying this steel. Really wanna try 80CV2, can you do a vid on it?
Great suggestion! TC loves doing these
Thanks for the info. I'm considering a Bradford Culinary set of knives in AEB-L for a gift to my wife.
💯 agree Knife Steel Nerds has a treasure trove of data on metallurgy.
We love Steel Nerds!
Been using to make custom knives for two years. My favorite steel to work with.
Thanks for watching Randall!

We really did Smith and Sons and they have a great story to go along with the awesome knives!
AEBL is stainless.
Knife center describes AEBL as 52-100 with better corrosion resistance... I like that simple explanation, seems about right

Hello. Which is best and common? Aebl or n690?
Wow nice knife! How does it compare in size to the Case Mini Finn? I don't think I have AEB-L steel.
It is just 1/2" longer than the Mini Finn with almost the same blade length.
Great video man! I am actually just getting ready to use AEB-L for the first time on a dive knife project and I am curious about its corrosive resistance properties. I haven't found a whole lot on that online. Do you have any info on whether AEB-L would be a good steel for that particular type of blade?
knifesteelnerds.com is a great resource that we use all the time. H1 and LC200N are great for dive knives and high moisture/salt environments
It's one n of my goto steels and it's very corrosive resistant.
Love your videos.
Thank you!
I love this steel and many of my knives are made of it
💯
Is AEB-L a good steel for a dressing a deer?
Many people like it as a hunting knife, with an HRC of 60-61 its edge retention stays good thru large deer and even larger game.
Im so disappointed that its rarely found in production knives. I hope Spyderco does a sprint run Lil Native or PM2 in AEB-L
Wow ! First. Does blade steel really matter for every day light cutting tasks ?
Blade steel matters even when you are just collecting and not using knives. Keep them oiled and wiped down to prevent rust and decay on handles if you don't want to keep buying users or have you collection damaged.
Thank you

That Bandit is beautiful. Any plans to restock it?

bradford got the guardian 3 also
Bradford has some awesome knives!
My krake raken v3 is abe-l steel this is the first time ive ever been exposed to it
We love that we live in a golden age of knife and steel making
My favorite steel is AEB-UHHH.
thanks for watching
Now, how about a comparison with A2?
Either AEB-L or LC200N is my favorite steel for knives. I don't mind sharpening my easily sharpened edge as much as I do concerning myself with keeping it dry or it breaking.
That said, if you value edge retention above all else, S90V beats S30V and S110V.
Thanks for watching and all great steels 👍
The rough ryder sous chef is back in stock!!. Yes!!!!!!! 😁.
Back but going fast!
I literally have no experience with ABEL
Next time you are looking for a great knife it is one to consider
83480 Jean Trail
529 Katelynn Hill
knife makers…
AEB-L versus 14C28N
Both have great uses and are awesome
William Collins of WC Knives uses AEBL extensively in his knives and he loves it
AEBL is great!
