When I was young, a buck knife was all I'd have.
yep when I was a kid in the 70s if you didn't have a 110 you weren't a man !
@@thehairywoodsman5644agree
Love this knife. Buck has been doing some great things the last couple of years! A legacy company that actually listens to the market!
I usually stick to Buck’s domestic products . Their imports are always lackluster . So many other companies have better knives in their import lines .
Totally agree with this
Yep.
I am right there with you that is why this on is surprising
Imported knives can only ever be mediocre at best
Yea, I don't understand why this guy keeps pushing chinese/CCP stuff.
Buck is a company I never want to see selling imports. $55 MSRP for budget materials from China is also a miss. I hope Buck sends you some other things from their American made product line this year. I would love to see Magnacut 110's become a standard high-end model, and Buck needs some modern folders that use a crossbar lock system with modern steels and handle materials that are not Benchmade prices.
I would say a framelock with a pinch plate/overtravel arrestor is a step above a liner lock.
Agreed
Curious about your reasoning behind that preference. And “just because I like it,” is a perfectly good answer.
@@JohnSmith-gs4lw Framelocks are usually thicker and stronger than liner locks, with a greater area engaging the blade. That said, I don't dislike liner locks.
wish it was a lock back or mid handle lock back. Makes the knife slimmer, stronger, simpler and ambidextrous. Still might pick it up.
Those work sharp portable sharpeners you got laying out in video are miracle workers. Those things just work stupidly good
They are excellent
It looks like a well made knife but it's not a cleaver and a chefs (cook) knife doesn't have jimping. It's a sheepfoot blade. A cleaver has the cutting edge (way) below the handle so your knuckles won't touch the cutting board or block. But a sheepfoot blade is a very functional style of blade when piercing or stabbing is not on your mind. This can be a big benefit when you're around sensitive people or in countries where they see every knife as a weapon.
Sharpener, which I use: 🕷️ Triangle 😊
Yes sir. I bought one of these couple months ago. This thing is not perfect but it's big, super smooth and drop shutty. Fidgety and fun to play with. It broke in beautifully.
I’m always rooting for buck. A couple of their recent releases look god awful but then they have some that look interesting. I think their newer fixed blade stuff seems appealing
Buck ruins themselves. That's the problem.
I had both this & the frame lock original. Returned this one because the liner was so dainty & the bevels were wonky. Too easy to fail the deployment. Maybe I got a lemon.
Looks like a pretty cool knife. Glad Buck is stepping up their materials.
I use the worksharp field sharpener too. Easy to use and works great.
buck's 420hc is perfect. I'd take it anyday over the new "supersteels,' it's just so easy to sharpen and keeps an edge well
@escapetherace1943 yeah their 420 hc is great! I mostly meant when they use 7cr.
So glad to here that love buck
Like the look on the blacked out. May give it a try.
The original Highline is a winner too. I have been wanting to get the XL I just haven’t yet for some reason…
I have the original. Buck actually listened and made a BIGGER version. Thank you. Down with mini knives!
Looks pretty cool.
Perfect pocket knife! Especially for people comparing 84mm and 91mm swiss army knives!
Currently been using my work sharp pocket sharpener. Absolutely love it!! Have the work sharp precision adjust too but dont really need that much often. Keep killin the videos man. Definitely appreciate all your work you put into these.
This blade style with a marlin spike for rope work
I love the original hiline. It's a shame that I personally find better quality in the China made models of buck. Buck has a problem with bad grinds. Almost every knife I buy from them made in USA has had that problem. Just my opinion. Love your channel😊
Ya that is sad.
I own 26 Buck knives and this one looks like #27!!!
I prefer linerlocks to framelocks never licked grabbing the lock bar as part of the handle had to many instances of them closing on me. I prefer otf knives to both nowadays.
G'day Aaron, the blade is reminiscent of my RN Pattern Clasp Knife, (or Pusser's Dirk). These things come with a metal marlin spike, or fid, since they are designed predominately for rope work at sea, and have a shackle set up for attachment to a long lanyard. The modern versions are stainless for obvious reasons.
So, as far as this one goes in D2, I reckon it'd be ideal for those that do a lot of land based rope/cordage work. Incidentally, if one needs a fid to go with it, easy enough to carve one and fire hardening is even better. Cheers Duke.
What was the edge angle? Buck often sets theirs at a conservative 30 degrees per side. I would take D2 down to 15 or 20 which would help a lot.
Rounding or mitring off the shoulder (between grind and edge) will also help.
This is a good offering. It competes nicely with the Rat1 D2 for a large EDC folder. Probably not as well to cover as an outdoor folder.
It’s a nice design. I wonder how much they would charge if it was made in the USA
I really wish buck would stop with the hollow ground blades.
Liner or frame lock doesn't matter to me however, I do prefer a lock back design..
I love a good lock back
It's not a very "stabby" blade. A liner lock should be fine.
liner lock suck ! the only knife with a liner lock I trust is the Ontario RAT 1
I wonder if the just buy these designs or if they are involved in the shapes from the start.
Ya no idea!
Thanks for the great review and content. Could you do a review of the Microtech MSR?
What are your thoughts on the toor knives raven? Or toor knives as a whole perhaps?
A hollow-grind AND a sheepsfoot? Call me prejudiced, but I wouldn't want to be seen in public with one.
Hmm… Been following your channel for a long time. This is a great one from Buck IMO. Will definitely check it out. Great vid as always btw 👍🏻 And the stonewashed blade looks mighty cool.
Much appreciated!
Buck made overseas is a no-go for me. Come on Buck
They been making knives in China for sometime. If the blade isn't stamped USA the it's made in China.
I'll be honest, this knife actually looks really nice to me, but I don't care for the blade shape. I'd love a true buck looking clip point on this knife, though I suppose some time with a dremel could make it a bit pointy
I have one of those gray and orange Gerber Scouts that was promoted by Bear Grylls and I've been carrying this knife for probably 10 years or more. And I do own other Gerbers but my only complaint is that they've been putting out a lot of 7 Cr blades and I won't buy anything less than 8 Cr or aus 8 or carbon steel.
Great video buddy
Thanks 👍
I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the Buck Buckmaster 2.0
Looks crazy
I like Buck. Not this one though. I tried clever style blades a decade ago. They do not work for my daily usage. Good to hear quality control is on point!
Totally 👍
Always bought buckknives made in America I have many won’t buy a China made buck knife keep it
I only buy US Made buck knives
Love the Channel Bro 👍 , I just have No interest in a Buck Liner Lock 😮💨
Understandable haha
Never buy a overseas made Buck they don't have the forever warranty. Only their USA made knives warranted.
I never buy any of my knives made over seas. I refuse. I'll buy my American made knowing I'm keeping the money here where it belongs.
@@hillbillyfromtheswamp6223That’s all good and well but I’ll buy the knife that’s worth my money. I support American companies when possible but I’m not going to buy a subpar knife for more money just because it’s made in the US. Most everything is made overseas, that’s just reality.
@@John5.56 chances are good the American workers at that US made knife company do their shopping at Walmart anyhow... So the cash all eventually ends up in the PRC
@@John5.56L take John. This is why we lose.
I don't buy any Chinese Bucks, but they come with the same warranty.
I hate d2. I like buck steel better. And I prefer liner lock.
You asked what sharpener - I use the Field sharpener like you do. I also use the Pro PA and the Ken Onion elite all from Worksharp.
I also prefer D2 to the 7 & 8cr steels. Having said that, if you are using a Buck 420 steel knife, it is much better than other companies’ 420. While D2 is semi-stainless, have never had any issues; and if you use your knife, a little patina ain’t a bad thing.
The USA BOS 420 is better than the overseas stuff. Not great in comparison to 14c28n for example. But better than the China stuff
For me Buck has a knitch and this is not it
looks literally like an old timer razor blade 😅johnny depp is that you? Sweeney todd much?
the best buck is the 110/112, whichever is a person's preference
112 Forever.
@@lostcat9lives322 I prefer the 110 but because of its size I carry a grooved 112 as my daily. Nice choice!
Looks great too bad its not made here.
I like Buck knives. ....it it wasn't for their hollow grind in so much of their knives. Do not like that grind at all.
Buying a Buck made overseas, would be like buying an American Flag made overseas.
NO THANKS. ALL my Bucks are made in The U.S.
Thanx for the video my Bladed Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲
While there might not be QC weirdness... there is the weirdness of the knife itself. It's an odd knife.
Import d2 is garbage. Better than the worse garbage you mentioned. But I'd rather have the USA BOS 420hc.
Definitely not one I'd rock. I'm not a cleaver guy and then it's made of pot metal
Wiha makes knives for 5 different "US" brands. The company is capable of producing a quality knife.
1. Yes, "Chinese" knife manufacturers are capable of making crap. And when you buy a "military knife" from a youtube advertiser, Amazon or eBay distributor, you can buy crap all day.
2. I question how good "warranties" may be. When you get done finding the sales receipt you never kept and paying postage to get warranty service on your knife, what the heck is a warranty really worth to you. And, who are you going to return a knife to when shtf?
3. Buyer beware. Do your research.
Made in China? No more Buck for me! Seriously. What an oxymoron concept!
Overseas Buck and D2?
Nope and nope.
That is one ugly knife. Buck used to make beautiful knives
Super ugly knife 😂😂😂
