      when heading towards hawes i always take a break on the bench at the side of the road opposite the buck inn and have a drink from my flask as it's about 90 mins from home. i'll wait till i get a good break from traffic before heading off, as it's a road best done when quietest as you'll know. i've cycled and now motorbiked over fleet both ways literally 100's of times since the 70's, and it's one of my fav roads as well. i still remember the first time, which must have been 1974, on the way to stay in the hawes youth hostel, and we stopped at the top just as you start to go down the steep bit which used to be marked as 1:4, now downgraded to 20% i think, to take a photo down the valley. it was a bit overcast then as well but always a worthwhile view. cheers for the vid.

    Love the opening "poem" ❤❤
    Back in BC Canada after 3 weeks in N.Yorks visiting Mum. We drove up ont' moors and like you felt...amazing freedom etc... great for the soul of a Yorkshireman!... keep on with these road trips, they never get tired. Years ago we did many rides in the Dales as well ❤
    First thing was to get a tootle out on my V7 Special Edition (same model) 😂😂 😂. Sadly, the T120 has started early hibernation for a few months!
    Loved N.Yorks, as usual and just need to organise a bike for next time (I keep saying this for 30+ years)....but it seems really difficult re: temp insurance and no UK residence???
    Both bikes are keepers... in fact, IF I could have #3, I'm not sure what it would be?
    The current puppies are fine!

    Lovely. I'm fortunate to live in rural Vermont in the US where we have lovely country roads to ride with the 350. But, this area you are riding in is gorgeous. I often day dream about traveling to your area and maybe renting a little 350 to tour around on. Robert Frost spent the last 20-25 years of his life in the lovely little town of Ripton up in the hills here in Vermont. I ride through that area at least once a year.

      haha yes i know that feeling, once in the 70's we cycled over one winter after a snowplough had been through, and the wall of snow was like a tunnel in one place, at least pedalling kept most of the body warm 😀. GL

    Good am sir, morning here anyway, what a place to ride & what a great bike to take you out there. I have to tell you that evey time i see that part of your country i'm stricken with just a teeny bit of rider envy, also when you take olde norman for a tour, these are my favourite of all your videos, all are great entertainment but this combination is quite special to me. Enough jibber jabber, it's really nice here although quite cool & i am about to go for a long ride out on my nice olde beastie, a 650 suzuki boulevard s 40. Her name is delilagh & she does get some attention now & again. Thanks as always, ric, ontario canada, where winter is looming on the horizon.

    Probably my favourite road of all. Went over there on two wheels many times, once on a windy & very blustery day that made it rather tricky right at the top of Fleet Moss. Had to lean the bike hard into the wind (coming from my right) just to go in a straight line, so the corners at 11:47 and 12:12 (which are sharper than they look in the video) were "challenging" to say the least ! 😆
    Riding down the other side through Deepdale/Yockenthwaite - a beautiful place with the river right beside you on a summer's day - I had my visor up to smell the clean air, when a wasp flew right inside my helmet and was buzzing angrily in my ear. I don't think I've ever stopped so fast in my life !
    More recently (on four wheels, with the wife) going up the long straight climb above Gayle I spotted something in the road ahead & slowed right down - It was a large Hare, just sitting in the middle of the road, staring at us. Got within about 30 yards before it ambled off. Another time we were looking down at deep snow in the valley where you stopped to admire the view, and that was in late May !
    A small correction; You don't enter Buckden via Cray on that route, you go via Oughtershaw & Hubberholme. Cray is on the B6160 above Buckden, on the road to Bishopdale/West Burton/Aysgarth.

    • @thebingleywheeler
      @thebingleywheeler  Месяц назад

      We certainly went from Cray to Buckden because we passed the White Lion and the next pub we passed was the Buck Inn…..Oughtershaw is further back

    • @Kevin-mx1vi
      @Kevin-mx1vi Месяц назад

      @@thebingleywheeler Then you must have turned left at Hubberholme, opposite the George pub, and taken the tiny lane that takes you up to Cray. Going straight on goes directly to Buckden.

    Fleet moss is tough on a pushbike. Used to do an endurance run from Preston every year. Heading south from Hawes the 1 in 4 bits at top are nasty as you are already pretty much at max before you get to them. 😮 Amazing I did more regular 100mile plus runs on push bike than I now do on motorcycle!

      'The history of dry stone walls dates back centuries, and different time periods often utilised different building methods of walling which helps us date them to particular eras. Many of the walls we see today are a result of the Enclosures Act of the late 1700s and typically run in straight lines for miles on end'
