After another wipe he went on a tirade about how his time was too important to be wasted on failing with sprouts and left. (So that doesn't just happen in WoW.) At the time the group was still going so we let it run, but they wiped. Third try it came down to me and one tank, a Paladin, and I eventually died to mechanics that I couldn't survive as a DPS (stack marker), and it was down to the Paladin. Dude managed to finish off the last 10% of Sigamascape 4.0 by himself, worked mechs like a champion and kept himself alive with Clemency. When he dropped the boss the chat erupted and everyone was asking him to wait so they could commend him.
    WoW guy was the first to ask him to stay, felt awesome :)

      @orakuotaku to be fair, I don't like it when people pull ahead of me as the tank. I try to go wall to wall, but I don't have the quickest reflexes and unless I've been running a piece of content over and over within the last week my knowledge of where enemies are and how I'll have to pull may be fuzzy.
      So I'll generally stop to do an AoE to pull as many as I can, then move on to the next pack once I've got all the mobs.
      Howevere it sometimes happens that a DPS will keep running and just pull the next pack without stopping. Then I habe to rush ahead and grab them off the DPS before they die.
      So I somewhat understand the frustration of having someone pull extra mobs. Thinking back to when I first started tanking I would'veb been freaked out to see all of them coming at us. Just takes some people longer to get used to W2W pulls.

    I came over to 14 about three years ago FROM WoW, and recently talking about the WoW refugees one of my XIV friends was like "some of them are just so toxic". And that's when I had to lay the truth on them;
    WoW DOES that to you. so much of WoW is SO toxic you become toxic as a defense mechanism. You wallow in toxicity and adapt to it. So a ton of the WoW refugees are who are still toxic are that way because they're still in that mindset. They do it to defend themselves. Heck, it took me a few months to finally let my guard down cause I kept expecting a hidden camera crew to jump out and start talking about my mom and telling me to uninstall the moment I relaxed.

    Yup, that dungeon scene says it all. I was in a group just getting to the first boss in Copperbell Mines when my power went out for a few minutes. It took an excruciating 7 minutes for my modem to come back online so I could log back in and I fully expected to have been kicked from the group. Instead, I found that they kept me in the group and made sure that I got loot from each of the bosses that I might be able to use. When I apologized to everyone, they were all "no worries, man! it happens". I even got a player commendation thingy.

    I've finished all the MSQs through Shadowbringers and now have 850 hours in FFXIV. I was one of those WoW refugees a lot of months ago. Gotta say... video is spot on, but really doesn't capture the level of "we will do this together" FFXIV has going for it. Try Seat of Sacrifice in Shadowbringers. There are several points in that fight where it's an automatic group wipe if someone messes up. It's not uncommon to have 5+ wipes on that fight. No one rages. No one quits. Someone takes the reins every time and walks all the people failing mechanics through what's going on. And then... something magical happens. Something that not once happened in WoW's toxic, awful community has ever happened in my 15+ years. We take the "garbage", "trash", "sub-optimal" pugs and we get the fight down. It's like a magical revelation coming from WoW. All these people ever needed was respect and patience and all it cost me was an extra 15 minutes and I still got my content done.

I didn't ruined the chat with insults, just told him again that he has to accept it and also another player tried to "calm us down". Like in ESO if I join a group for dungeons etc. everyone say "Hi", "Hello","Bonjour", and so on. People write their random thoughts into the chat and you immediatly feel "connected" to the group. Did like the job system though, and the way they handle certain cinematics. Dungeons were ok too. But overall, I felt ARR to be pretty bad. FFXIV should really change that, cause it's the first thing new players try, and it's boring, average at best and, worst of all, SUPER long. That you need to do over 80 quests to reach Heavensward after getting to lvl 50 is stupid as fuck. They probably ran off before the rest of the group even had the chance to harrass them. (It triggered their PTSD - and yes I mean this seriously)
      I've played a healer in WoW pretty much since release of the game (didn't play at all for a couple of years) and my last dungeon with randoms before I uninstalled everything Blizzard related was me trying desperately to keep a group alive in which the tank always pulled too much for the amount of damage this group could do, during a week with the worst affix of them all, just to get r.a-p.e. threats in the whisper because I couldn't save the fire mage who thought they could camp in an aoe on a high key. And that was pretty much standard behaviour if you dared to play with random people in WoW as a healer. Best case scenario was: You just get s-hit on because you didn't skill some specific skill despite some world first raider having declared this the best skill four months ago, but otherwise nobody talks to you.
      I have thick skin, but honestly I was panicking too when I died for the first time in group content while we were doing the "Final Steps of Faith" fight and I saw how the group started to drop. I apologized at least 10 times because I was so sure that I would get insulted and/or threatend. I'm more relaxed now, but it's still hard not to get anxious everytime someone dies because I couldn't save them even if it was their own mistake.

      I feel like this is because the game lightly nudges you to be helpful.
      If you have a new player, the game tells everyone there’s a new player (without identifying them). It also gives you a reward for it so you’re like, heck yeah a new player extra poetics for me. And then, if a fight ahead has mechanics, ad the experienced player you realize that it’s in your best interest to explain the mech to make it easier and more pleasant for everyone.
      So, as the new player, people are actively glad to see you, they explain mechs without you having to ask, and if there is a wipe, people are understanding because they know someone is new.
      And this behavior becomes a habit; people will not disband a roulette party that wiped even if it’s all experienced players because they’re simply not in the habit of disbanding.
      It’s a genius system that, without ever “forcing” you to be nice to other players, makes it so that it’s always in your best interest to do so.

      Well, it also helps there's none of that "you didn't time a key so no one gets any loot" stuff going on, the roulettes mean you get cash, tokens to buy gear with and possibly XP for helping low-level dungeons, so even if you can't use the dungeon gear itself you at least get something for your time instead of "we spent 30+ minutes on a dungeon and no one got anything for our time and our key even went down a level because we failed to time it.".
      That kind of mentality changes deaths from "Oh, we made a mistake, pick ourselves up and try again" to "we made a mistake, and now we're SCREWED". So FF just does a much better job of fostering a more calm, "It doesn't matter if we wipe a few times as long as we learn from the mistakes and get it done" attitude.

    I ended my WoW sub two weeks ago after thirteen long, grueling years. It was my favorite MMO. I played FFXIV off and on since the day ARR launched but honestly never really got into it until post Stormblood, and even then I was so used to faster games that I didn't really want to keep at it much. However, after my favorite class got changed up enough that I felt more relevant (Red Mage), I went back and really started playing. Then...everything on WoW just started crashing down. The sudden and large amount of censorship that has been crammed into the upcoming patch was actually what caused me to throw in the towel. I felt that they would end up making me cover up my own character, and I'm a woman irl that honestly just loves to dress up my female characters in super skimpy outfits in every single game I play. Plus, I could never get the right look for any of my male characters there. I loved that FFXIV allowed me to look super badass or like a hooker that walked out of an expensive gentleman's club (I GET TO WEAR STOCKINGS FINALLY YESSSS). The game plays a lot better now, and considering the changes for Endwalker coming it's got nowhere else to go but up. All the damn side content is what really sells this game too. Games should be fun, and while I considered WoW's endgame to be fun...that's all there really was to do. With FFXIV I can play like twenty different games in one, and I'm not pushed to do any of it, even the "endgame". Wasting time on it is actually productive for my damn mental health because there's no pressure. The simple fact that people actually face repercussions for their negative actions in game is also a huge bonus. WoW became so autonomous with the GMs that they just stopped caring with harassment and similar things. I completely cut off socializing with anyone in game since nothing good ever came of it after a while. Don't get me started on itemization either... At least with FFXIV you bring the player and the class, and the items are only important for the right stats if you want to run Savage and higher. I don't have to worry about having specific trinkets or a set bonus or whatever the hell. It's just me and my ability to play.

So she's getting feed back from players as is the team on what to design. Hence Ruby Sea clothes designs or over the type victorian gear. Glad you like the glam!

      If there is one thing miss from FF11 is literally starting the game with your own personal room that you could furnish at your leisure. I don’t know why they didn’t do it again in FF14.

      Heh, I did the same during the boss battle at the Keeper of the Lake between ARR and Heavensward as Whm. I simply didn’t know the boss mechanics and caused two wipes.
      All the rest of the party did was explain the boss mechanics and what I needed to do. I apologised but they were cool with it. That it was my first run of that dungeon and nobody should expect perfection the first attempt when I’m still learning.
      But lo and behold the third time around we won without anyone dying at all. I do think that if, as a young sprout 🌱, you encounter laidback, patient players that don’t berate you for newbie mistakes then it sets a pattern in your mind. Then when the day comes months or years later and you’re the veteran and a sprout makes a mistake you pass on the kindness once shown to you. Obviously if you get berated for being new like in WoW, you’ll end up that way .

      Yes, same here. I love tanking, personally, but in WoW I had to play perfectly - and if I screwed up... 'Next stop: Flame Central.' It gave me what I call 'tanxiety', always made me skittish to ever touch tanking in groups. And it carried over to FFXIV, at first.
      I still sometimes have tanxiety, but I feel more relaxed now and can embrace it easier. I've got level 80 Paladin, 80 Dark Knight and 80 Gunbreaker, and I'm leveling Warrior now. FFXIV has helped me get over *MOST* of my tanxiety, and I can finally have fun with it.
      (That said, I too have had a toxic player in a dungeon. As I was leveling Paladin through Shadowbringers, I dared to cast Clemency during a boss fight because healer was OOM and didn't have Lucid Dreaming up. Healer flipped their lid, mocked me ruthlessly for casting Clemency, and on the next mob pull, they ditched the group shortly after I pulled. Miraculously, no one died because, well, Paladin's Clemency. When we got our replacement healer, I jokingly asked them if they'd ditch the group if I cast Clemency, and they gave a very confused 'no...?' We all had a laugh when I explained, and we finished the run without issues - and no, I didn't have to cast Clemency again.)

    • @KotCR
      @KotCR 3 года назад +6

      @@Hexium_Vexium Yeah. Screw that guy. Paladins get Clemency for a reason. You have less personal defensive CDs than the other tanks as a Paladin, exactly because you have Clemency. You're supposed to use it.
      Anybody that thinks that it's worth putting the party at risk of wiping in favour of pulling off a single extra GCD offensive skill has their priorities wrong. That one extra offensive spell won't help you finish the dungeon faster if doing it causes you to wipe, or even if it just causes a single player to get KO'd; That's alot of extra missed offensive GCDs and potential DPS from the KO'd player (and the Healer) considering the time it takes to Rez someone and the death debuff. If they are about to die and you can save them with a Clemency, you should do so. The risk of not doing so is far greater than the reward of an extra single offensive GCD in a PuG.
      Sure, ideally you wouldn't have to use it, but if not using it at some point puts you, or even the entire party, at risk of immediately dying, you absolutely should use it. And honestly, if the Healer isn't making you feel comfortable enough to trust them to save everyone, that's on them, not you.
