I always tell people about the time I, as red made, got 6 commends for being the first one to jump on the whale in Limitless Blue normal. Because I never get commends for ressing or emergency healing in raids.
The one time my healer kept dying on the last dungeon boss no matter how many time I rez'd him so I had to be the one to heal the tank, other DPS, and myself while also DPSing the boss.
And I didn't get commended for it.
Black Mage, White Mage, and Red Mage all fighting and arguing in a Dungeon about who the superior spell slinger is.
Blue Mage just sitting outside the entrance eating glue and killing gods with their own abilities.
The Self-Destruct rushes were hilarious. Dungeon clears in under 5 was crazy.

@@Tython82 I haven't really been playing frequently, but was when they first released blue. So I got to experiment with people when the beast was unleashed on the dungeons.
Once it become norm it was more "farm farm farm" and less "man this is nuts!", thus "was".
@@Tython82 was as in its now pointless to do with the moogle tombstone event. Aurum Vale you can clear fast, but one raid was significantly faster.
@@kyotanaka920 indeed, Turn 2 of thr Coils of Bahamut could be done in 30 seconds with Blu Mages, unfortunately that one is not available with this current event.

@@Atiklyar They nerfed the shit out of curing waltz to have a range of like 3 feet. It says 3 "yalms" which should be like 3 yards = 9 feet, but really you can be an arm's length away from a player and they don't get the heal. It's pretty bad.

Me practicing my rotations for an hour, gets into dungeon/trial, immediately forgets how to play the game.
I have a friend that played black mage as we were going through the story together and everytime he got a new ability he would start rambling and theorizing about where new abilities went in his rotation

Don't worry it gets better. Eventually you can stop throwing rocks and start spamming a spell that blinds you and your entire team throughout half the entire fight so all anyone sees is screen covering white flashes every 2s like it's some shitty rave

I literally just picked up this game yesterday and went "Ooh thaumaturgy looks cool" and now I'm living with the knowledge that my class is going to be pain.

Probably learned this already but as a just in case you can change classes after lvl10(?) Somewhere around that level
If you wanna play it because it looks cool, I'd say go for it! Did the same thing when i went to FF, and found the main difficulty lies in it being very proactive rather than reactive.... You will not preform optimally the first time you see an encounter, but planning around after a few tries is incredibly fun. When to zip to a nearby party member, when to leylines... When to use triple cast and blast while moving out of shit. The job got alot of tools to help with stuffs.
What is life but overcoming pain for success?
It was my starting class as well, I reached level 69(I was actually overleveled, since I was still doing lvl 58 quests in the Heavensward MSQ) and by that point I just could not bring myself to go on and bought a level booster for Red Mage, now I exclusively play melee DPS except when I have to do all the role quests avaible for each role.
Enochian being changed to a trait instead of a skill is like the best thing ever to happen to Black Mage. Also, triple cast is awesome. And, yet, BLM is the only class in the game without a self-heal. Yes, we do have a crappy shield ability. But that doesn’t count. But why do I love BLM? Triple cast fire 4. Do I die a lot? Yup. The floor is comfortable! But seriously - you want to master a fight? If you master it with BLM, you’ve mastered it.
Ey, I'll hear no trash talk about man of war, it's helpful when there's some kinda knockback that only applies if you take damage!
Even though they made it a trait, it can still drop off if you lose your umbrals, which means you still lose your polygot progress. So it's not actually that big of a change, it just means you don't get into that terrible situation where you drop enochian while the CD is still up AND you lose your polyglot. And of course it saves a button
@@dckuha What makes it better being a trait is that it's able to be picked up again immediately instead of waiting for the cool down to complete. When it was an action, there was a cool down involved. Now, no cool down.
@@powerofk Yeah that's exactly what I said. You still take a huge DPS hit if you drop your umbrals because you miss xenoglossy casts. It's not QUITE as punishing but it's still punishing enough that if you're dropping umbrals you're going to fall behind everyone else on damage.
You know what doesn't count? Summoner Physick. THAT doesn't count. 900hp heal on full raid gear, ISN'T a self heal. It's a joke. xD

@Poe Soul if you like WHM then all the more to you, it's just that there's no way to prevent damage from going through. All you have is heals, very little mitigation/shields which makes healing an under geared or bad tank even harder.
but then again, if you enjoy it then play it. Not impossible, just annoying at times.
as a healer main, the crying is accurate XD even more so when dps dont move out of obvious mechanics, yeah im looking at you black mage

Here's whats amazing about Pint... and I'm being dead serious. Not only is his production and editing chops amazing, but he actually is truly thinking about the insights and human truths around the game and classes then effortlessly weaves it into something you will never get tired for watching. But he's also teaching you something and inspiring you and entertaining you all in one. Period. Pint is GOATED.
The thing is Black Mage is one of those classes where one day you just get it and then you look back like "Damn, it was never hard... I'm was (and quite possibly still am) just stupid"

The Black Mage's Leveling Grind Is The Exact Opposite Of wow Mage Leveling Experience
Definitely. I love WoW's version(s) of mage and wish FFXIV black mage was just as easy to play. I think one good step in that direction would be to shorten the cast times of their spells. Shave 0.5 seconds off the casts and the leveling experience would feel much better.

You mean the classic one? Drinking for 30 seconds after each pull? Or the new one where mana doesn`t matter at all for all but healers.
An objective for glory, the arduous journey of self-improvement under a mentor, peer pressure accompanied by inner turmoil, mentor caving into self-doubt, and capped off with the student encouraging the mentor with an uplifting message. Also HQ visuals exist.
This whole video is an entire anime and I didn't even need to go to Crunchyroll to watch it. 10/10 Will watch again.

For anyone who’s wondering, here are some extra tips Pints Pride didn’t allow him to tell you:
1. If the boss is going to hit you with a coquesmasher 9000 and getting out of the way means losing Enochian, *get out of the way.* Remember: a sub optimal DPS still deals more damage than a corpse.
2. Your Leylines are powerful. Make sure you put them in the right place *away* from the tank’s position. As a tank main, we don’t have to move as much, please take that into consideration. We’re the guys meant to take the A$$clapper 243075, not you.
3. Most importantly: don’t let your ego control you. The healer *will* call a hit man on you if you make too many stupid mistakes. You can’t deal damage if you’re dead, and will have to rebuff yourself anyway if you’re revived.
I read your first point and immediately knew you were a healer or tank main.
Just use transpose... He has the joke there but it's so quick I only realized it at this watching
@@robnlarieI mean... Do you know how much a revive is? It's a full fourth of the entire MP bar plus 8 seconds of uninterrupted casting required without a swift cast.
I am a devout healer main and will still risk taking damage from aoes as black but I don't want to risk dying over getting another fire 4 spat out.
Also transpose comes in so early but has so little need of use until you reach benefits of keeping enochian going...
Pint. 5 months ago i started as a black mage during the free trial that i was alotted. I had so much pride because my friends that got me into it said that Black Mage was highest DPS but hardest to play because of the lack of mobility. I became a half way decent BLM and i was proud. When i got the full game, I ended up switching classes to try something new, i went to reaper at level 70 and leveled it all the way to 90. Then to Gunbreaker because i needed a tank class and sucked at DRK but didnt want to be a warrior or paladin carbon copy. I tried healers, i tried other DPS. I leveled bard for the music. I walked away from BLM because of the fun of the mobility and ease of play. but your video has renewed my faith.
Today...I return as a BLM.

I'm not even a BLM, just a healer, and I've felt that. ESPECIALLY AST since Gravity is a targeted AOE. T_T Sure, it's the only one you don't have to stand in the middle of the scary bad guys, but if your target dies, WHAT THEN?!?!

I remember trying Black Mage as my first class when I started playing because I liked magic and the cool look from the cinematic trailers. Never had a clue what I got myself into before it was too late, by that time I was already too invested
Playing black mage is like playing greatsword in Monster hunter. You will/have to learn every enemy's attacks and positioning is key.
Alternatively tell your healer to adjust and refuse to move from your Leyline under any circumstances.

As a greatsword otp I can tell you this almost there, cause as a black mage at least you got range, the greatsword is in your face and when it lands true charge crit, you wet your pants like no black mage ever will

Three weeks ago, I couldn't stand Black Mage. I begrudgingly levelled it to level 50 a long time ago, and never wanted to touch it ever again because I couldn't stand being so immobile, and the rotation felt incredibly boring.
Then I decided I'm going to level every class to 90, and start with the one I hate most to make the other ones feel easy by comparison. So, I started to level black mage. And the higher I got, the more I realized...
"This shit is in my blood."
As soon as I got access to Ley Lines, Umbral Hearts, and Fire IV, everything changed and I realized that this shit slaps. I'm almost to 90 now and I immediately want to start gearing it up. Getting that perfect Ley Lines window feels fucking incredible, and I love having so many movement options with Triplecast, Aetherial Manipulation, Between the Lines, instant cast Foul/Xenoglossy, and firestarter/thundercloud procs. I almost always have something I can push when I need to move to keep the momentum going, so the "immobility" has become nonexistent for me. I now understand why Yoshi-P mains this class. It fucking slaps.
I main healers, and I learned to never rescue black mages. Either they know what they are doing, or not, and they will learn from it, but I don't wanna be the one who interupts their cast timer lmao. I'll heal you through everything little black mages, don't worry!!

I rescued a black mage once.... the game killed me 1 sec later with a knock back. I've never rescued a black mage since. I'll just watch them eat the aoe and heal 😂

I don't rescue at all if a player dies I'll just use my 1 minute res cooldown on them and that's that never my fault neither should it be my fault if a player fails a mechanic. If more then 1 player die per minute especially in a raid with more then 1 healer then something went awfully wrong. Remember healers... you decide who gets to live.

I regularly come back to this master piece of a video because it genuinely is one of my favorite videos on youtube. I FINALLY decided to take on the black mage challenge and am loving myself for it, I am at 90 with it, but I will say this. As someone who mains red mage and will save countless runs with red mage res', I get more commendations playing black mage than I do red mage.
The best feeling is doing well as blm in a duty and then getting commends for it.
Ah, this video never gets old to watch and rewatch. It wasn't what prompted me to try Black Mage, but it definitely gave some cool insights into the job without being an outright guide, which let me enjoy the experience a lot more. A friend of mine, who ran levelling dungeons with me commented that, quote "This is the first time I'm witnessing a corruption arc in real time." And you know what? He was right. No, I will not, in fact, move to the stack marker, you can deal with it on your own! Triplecast Fire IV go BRRRRRRRRRR!
Remember black mages. When you drop lay lines throw a surecast in there too. So even if the pesky healer tries to pull you out of an instant kill aoe, they can't!
I miss the Spell that started with an "EU" That gave you 10-20% of damage dealt as healing to your BLM. I'm an old BLKMG hand here, and I learnt it in stormblood era. I would spam the EU healing leach spell (which was short caste , near instant) with Scaethe until I got my triple case and other cool downs back, them pop off my flame combos like normal. It was a way more mobile era of BLKMG. The double 3X caste timer is the Endwalker way to try and make Blkmg more mobile again the way it used to be.
That's why when I'm feeling cheeky, I drop leylines on the healer, or use aetherial manipulation back to the nearest player to my lines. I don't recommend it if you don't know the fight, but if you do and you're about to be pulled into an aoe or someone is trying to stack on you when you should spread, then do.
Red mage is the responsible eldest sibling looking after the group, given all of the parents’ love and adoration since the beginning
Black mage is the youngest sibling that’s chaotic as hell, pretty annoying and really selfish, but rises to the top despite given all sorts of disadvantages
And summoner is the middle child that nobody remembers
Blue Mage is the cousin who comes over and is kinda both weird but they are also oddly enjoyable... but you have to question their life choices.

That's awesome! I've been a Red Mage through thick and thin since Stormblood and I agree it should be about what YOU want to play and your accomplishments with that.

ACCEPT ALL LEVELS OF SKILL YOU BULLIES.
It's the reason I play White Mage and Red mage as my healer / dps now. White mage is a somewhat mobile position allowing for AOE quick heals and regenerative field effects. In Raids I AOE heal and sprint around constantly. Hit those Tanks with the Regen and Medica 2, and run !.
For Red Mage, it's the same with the mobility issues. You have some trollish caste times and must master the shorter single target spell to combo into AOE casts as you free instant one. It's a Pain in the ass. The main combos making you get up close to the boss with swordplay are dangerous AF. I get killed a lot trying my Scorch combination in Extreme content.
@@MaisieSqueak I mean, he's talking about savage and ultimate raiding, the top 1% of content in difficulty. I agree with you literally everywhere else, but high-end raiding is the sort of thing where I think people have a right to ask for a baseline skill level.

Just came back to say how well edited this is - like I'll come back to view again just because the style is so fluid and there isn't a single second wasted. What type of insanity does it take yourself (and/or your editors... at least I hope this isn't a one person job) to go through all this footage, move avatars around in just the right amount, interlace multiple things together so they read well to a scene and flow the way you want etc?
As a healer, having Black Mage in the party is like having a Dragoon. Let them have fun and learning the position, don't yank them out of the AoE if it not very obviously getting killed.
as a dragoon main you are sorely mistaken, only time our positioning is strict is when we have to use all our jumps in opener, while blm has strict positioning at all times
If a dragoon is tanking the floor making sure it doesn't move they are playing the class correct, if they live give them a gold star sticker lol
If you ever see a dragoon in an AOE it's because we're all addicted to using evasive jump at the last possible second.
@@jamesfoy4341 question being was that extra hit or two worth making the party be down a dps, though in my experience dragoons die more to yeeting themselves off the boss platform more than dying to actual mechanics which is hilarious to watch but still worse than dying where you can be resurrected
"insert main dragoon class comment here" as much as i love the dragoon jokes, i'm proud to say i only evasive jumped off a cliff once and that was in all honesty more of a misclick (mistake or not i did know about the dragoon memes at the time so it messed me up i pulled a "noob dragoon" move XD)
and yes evasive jumping out of the way of a ass-clapping aoe IS awesome and will make you feel like a badass (until the boss uses the 2nd ass-clapping aoe then pray you can run out in time lol)

I played black mage from the start, historically i've always enjoyed being the massive damage turret in games... King Thordan broke me. I died, two or three times, enough for the healers to just give up. only had to do it once, but it left a scar on my mental state that not even Ornstien and Smough could from Dark Souls...

Now don't take this the wrong way, but I wasn't aware it was even *possible* to die on that fight, lol. You can straight up stand in half the AoEs and they'll barely tickle you.

This was my main way back, not sure if it got harder but positioning was everything. 8:57 Just like he says it felt amazing when you learned the mechanics, reacted well, and kept your rotations flowing. Something really satisfying about playing a hard class well.

Let me just start by saying that I have seen all your videos from the beginning and it is clear that you continue to perfect your craft and improve your video editing and writing with every new post. I get more excited about the "A new video has been uploaded by Pint" notification than I do most A tier movie titles. But, there is nothing I love more than seeing all of the wonderful reaction videos to your videos and seeing that everyone enjoys them just as much as I do. Keep up the great work Pint. The "when everything comes together" bit is completely on-point, few things feel as good as playing Black Mage well in a difficult fight...
... but other times, the tank moves the boss and you miss your Meteor in front of the entire alliance.
This inspired me, though, to pick Black Mage back up once more, that or I just need a break from leveling everything.
You perfectly explained the reward/punishment structure of black mage. It feels the best to get it down perfect and know you are doing it. People don't main black mage just for the high dps. They do it because they like doing high dps and proving a point. Its like beating a game on a harder difficulty. You don't need to do it but it feels good to do it. Thats where I find it fun anyways.
Hey hey, they also have the ability to smack their opponents with their staff and that ability has about 20% chance of doing extra potency dmg, just imagine if you invest in strength with your rings and earrings you could beat a PLD in melee DPS!!
(Oh and if you actually right click your target when you stand close to them, you will also perform your auto attack as well, for that extra 34-50 dmg per hit, works with all healers and casters)
@@soldierorsomething oof shots fired at us pld mains lol, at least at 90 they upped pld damage more though im sure it still gets out dps'd by literally every class, blm is my main dps class and it was a nice change from how boring tanking can get
@@crazy8slayer Well luckily tanks dont have to stand in queues and they can survive most attacks just fine while watching their fellow DPS´s die right next to them, so tanks are not all that booring :D
@@soldierorsomething later fights get more fun as a tank but all the early dungeon bosses are literally stand there and push like 4 buttons on repeat while everyone else gets to do actual mechanics, but tanking raids and higher content is very fun
Honestly, i main BLM just because i like how the screen shake everytime i cast flare. Each of their spell just feels very powerfull.

Finally a video I can truly relate to. It's nice knowing others go through the same pain being made to move out of their leylines and their raid group telling them to do mechanics. The thing that really hits home is casting Flare for 4 seconds and just before you can, the enemies die. Sometimes I look at enemies on low health and am like "There is no point in casting anything because by the time I do all I'll see is INTERUPPTED." :(( The suffering is worth it for the power you feel with the huge 50K+ crit you see on the screen with a Xenoglossy or laughing as you make meteors from the sky. It cannot be beaten.
Oh the thirst for power is unreal and im only lvl 35, but someday..someday the world will see my fury unleashed!!

But this is the WoW mentality. If something isn't optimal, compared to other jobs, it's entirely useless... They're the worst thing to happen to this game. Both for social values and for gaming meta... They'll destroy it before we've completed another expansion.

This video convinced me to try Final fantasy XIV for the first time and I went Black mage. I've been having fun doing main quests and side quests but it's been a lot more run when I spoke with someone in game for the first time and got pulled into my first free company. Could not recommend enough.

@@user-pr6zj9du9t You're making me laugh by saying glare mage was hard because of its cast time. SHB simplified healer rotation so much that it was laughable. Yes you have cast times on them but you literally only had 1 main dps skill with a dot with some ogcds. Optimally yes summoner was easier in the long haul because of its mobility during cast times. However the baseline for learning the base line rotation instead of the optimal rotation was much harder than the healers. Healing is hard not because of your dps rotation but because you also have the responsibilities of being a healer. I'll agree that BLM is probably the most "skillful" class to optimize in a fight but my comment wasn't about how hard it would be persay in like a savage or such its just learning the basic rotation. BLM is not hard because of its rotation but because doing the rotation was hard due to the cast times. Yes summoner had mobility but learning that base line rotation of using gcds and ogcds at the correct time as to avoid basic clipping was much harder than learning the basics of how fire and ice phases worked for blm.

This was me but with Red Mage, I remember being scared of playing Red Mage until I toyed around with my hotbar and suddenly found a setup, completely by random, that I was comfortable with. Granted, I've since only had a class type of each I level now on my alt: Machinist, Red Mage, Reaper, and Gunbreaker. Someday I'll get over my healer anxiety
