I'm thinking the issue you encountered with the AF on the 50mm isn't the lens, it's your camera. The 6300 does not have image stabilization, while the 90mm lens does so it can compensate for shaky hands. If your camera had image stab with the 50mm lens or you used a tripod there probably wouldn't be an issue at all with AF.
Hlo dude even i have same camera sony a6300 i have a doubt that fe 90mm f2.8 macro g oss after clicking pictures from sony a6300 does it crop a bit..? Why i am asking this because both the camera and lens sensors are different plzz reply as soon as possible Love from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳
Dave Craig yes the indoor examples I gave is very bad. I am very new to trying to produce RUclips videos, but I did extensively these two lenses outdoors and indoors and can say my statements are still valid.
Thanks. I currently own the 90mm and to be honest I really find it a pain to focus in real use (mostly wedding rings). I am seriously considering selling it and getting the 50mm for rings - and then buying the 85 GM (because I cant really justify getting the 85 while i own an 90!) Your video has made me doubt whether thats the best idea.
Essentially the noise of the motor wouldn't be an issue for me - but if its going to be even worse than the 90mm for focusing and the shots are going to be worse, its probably not a good move
One thing I didn’t include in my video is that I did try both lenses on 3 other bodies, the a6300, a7ii, and a7rii. What I noticed is with both of these lenses the AF struggles in the full frame. I believe this could from the a6300 having a little better of an AF system and I had full coverage of AF points. A friend has been using the 90 with the a7Riii and with the improved AF it is much faster than the previously mentioned cameras. This is a no brained, but I really thing the lens is solid and a true performer, but to get the most of it the newer AF systems will give you better results. As for the 85 GM I have seen people use that lens and some extension tubes to get the look your looking for. Plus the 85 is so dam sharp you can prob do a little bit of a crop too. I would personally avoid the 50. It’s probably been the slowest Lens I’ve ever used and I’ve tried some really bad lenses lol.
I’m also forgot to include. For rings with the 50 you will also have the lens casting a shadow on your subject. So you will have to use some light source to help yoi
Yeah I forgot to include test shots which I should of done, but if you would like to see some of the shots I was able to get with the lenses check out my Instagram @re_explore
Hey buddy, does your 50mm f2.8 macro make some clicking noise while you are doing manual focusing? For instance, please check this video out. ruclips.net/video/ADG3VPEtaIg/видео.html Thanks. Hope to hear from you soon.
I just watched your video to see what issue your talking about and no the 50 f2.8 I was using to test did not have this issue. The focus sound in my video is from the motor. It sounds like sand caught some place in your lens. Maybe try using a blower to knock anything out from the extension area.
That is what i thought of too. The clicking sound in my lens is not normal, but seems like some users even the Sony Pro support team who did the service claim that to be a normal focus mechanism sound. I tried the blower but to no avail. After couple times listening to the click, i dont think its anything to do with sand or dust anymore. its more like a focus bearing fault. but cant say anything until verified by other users. If its not too hassle, would you do me a favour to record the manual focus like how i did with your phone so that i have a comparison to argue with when challenged by the Sony team? Thanks in advance. Not too worry if its too much of a hassle. :)

Image quality, why not compare that issue?

you were failing to focus with the 50mm on a low contrast area...
