  • Watch British Army Oshkosh tank transporters, tankers and low loaders out and about on the roads of the UK. Featuring a Royal Air Force aviation fuel tanker.
The Oshkosh 1070F 8x8 is the large tractor unit of the Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) tasked with pulling batte tanks, armoury and other heavy vehicles on the 14 wheeled King Trailers seen in the video. These are operated by KBR FTX Logistics Ltd, who are contracted to the Ministry of Defence to provide transport during peacetime and are reservists for the British Army. The frontline unit is 19 Tank Transporter Squadron of the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC) at Bulford Camp, who operate the vehicles during military operations and in addition to their civilian counterparts.

The smaller vehicles seen in the video are the Oshkosh Wheeled Tankers/Tractors based on the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) built for the US Marine Corps. These are operated as Tactical Aircraft Refuelers, Close Support Tankers (Fuel or Water) & Medium Equipment Transporters (MET) by various regiments of the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC) & Army Air Corps (AAC), and by the Royal Air Force (RAF) as seen at 2:41 in the video.

Fabulous. The history of this brand, a family business winning a military contract, WW2, is quite fabulous history.

Just noticed that myself Steve, was also thinking when did they start having civvy escort vehicles? military trailers also have there own reg numbers so not tied to one vehicle.

Cheers. The civilian plates are on when operated by KBR FTX Logistics. When 19 Tank Transporter Squadron takes over, they put MoD plates on them. The same vehicles have two different plates that they switch out depending if a civilian or a soldier is driving.

Did Oshkosh not share the paint code to the tanker trailer builder? Why are the colors mismatched?
