Sorry to hear about your loss. I'm glad you managed to find this video of him on youtube. Did your dad have any videos or photos of the park during his time there?
@@DarkinthePark I honestly don't know.. my parents had a pipe burst and flooded their basement, ruining a lot of their photo albums. I would have to ask my mother and get back to you.
It’s more like North Wales, PA where it was located. My uncle’s company, Franklin Smelting, had their picnics there. I won 2 goldfish there. They were named Goldie and Tabor.
Who would have thought that such a trivial little video like this would strike memories for so many of us? We went on annual company picnics for Sealtest Dairies, our dad (there were eventually 9 of us, but probably at least 6 of us share these memories) was a milkman. We always looked forward to it. And how fun to open the video with music from the Mummers. Only us who grew up in the Philly area would get that significance. What a great little family park to rent out to groups. Thank you for posting this, where in the world did you get it??
Good old 80s fun. For those of us from Philly, going to Lansdale seemed like such a hike lol those days were so special. Makes me sad to think that many of the people in this video, who were so full of life, might not be around anymore 😢
When I was little back in the 1960s I went to this park several times with my parents, brothers, and several cousins. Since it's gone now this video is about all we have of the place … except for memories.
What a gem!!! We went every year as a school trip. The first time I went was in 1975 and I was in kindergarten and rode the rollercoaster for the first time. Wonderful memories!! We went from 1975 until 1982-83. I remember all the gold fish they had.
Thanks for posting this. It brought back many childhood memories. My last memory of the park was my 1980 visit with my 3-year old son (from New York where we lived at the time). They still had Dollar Night on Friday night, and he went on all the kiddie rides. So great to look back!
It was my first ever coaster in '88 as well. What a great park it was. Have you been to Knoebels in your life yet? Very similar park that still exists. Although it is being over ran by brown people these days you can still have a good time. Just ignore the police presence and muslims and act like they arent there.
Yes, boy was I terrified it was the first roller coaster I've ever been on mid 70s . It was our field trip for Saint Edward Catholic school in Philadelphia. Oh what memories ❤
Knoebels is a great park, but a very long drive! My company went there last year for a private outting, The Phoenix is one of the best wooden roller coasters that I was ever on!
Wow so many great memories! My sisters & I spent every weekend there, thank you for bringing the memories that were forgotten over time back! The salt & pepper ride and the whip were favorites !
Went with my family to my father's company picnics - Philco - in the 60's. Vivid memory of my first 'action' ride, the Wild Mouse sitting in the car between my Dad's knees holding on for dear life! Enjoyed it there, a really nice family day!
Thanks for posting the video of this park. Many times we went there for my uncles company picnic at Honeywell as well as mydads VFW post picnic I loved the Jumper roller coaster and the Whip Great park with great food
This is pure gold! Only (minor) complaint is that you didn't go on the roller coaster, I wanted to hear those chains clinking again. Loved that Space Spin ride. Wish there were more of these vids around.
Wow. I remember the park so well. As a child we would go there with LuLu Temple Shrine Club. they would rent the place out for the day. Thanks so much for posting this. I need to look. I may have a little digitized Super8 footage of the park.
+Bill Trautman I'm surprised there isn't more footage of West Point Park on the Internet. If you find your footage, you should definitely put it on youtube.
Yes but it's not west point p.a.! It's Lansdale p.a.! Two different places! But I also loved this park! Went there every year in the 60'S and 70's for my father's railroad picnics. Thanks for the memories and wonderful video
I'm disappointed that there was very little footage of the roller coaster! That was my very first roller coaster ride way back when I was around 6-years-old, in the very early 1970's! I'm hoping there is a video of that coaster floating around out there somewhere, that will eventually find its way to RUclips.
+Timothy Todd Yeah, I'm surprised I didn't take more video of the coaster. That is also what I remember most about West Point Park. I always thought that coaster was going to fall apart while I was on it.
There used to always be throw-up in the salt & pepper shakers. I remember going to this park in the early 90’s. Not sure why it says the park closed in ‘88?
The park sold to a developer in 1987...and 88 was the last operating season. I remember most of the park contents being sold off in 88-89. Did you find something on the internet confirming that the park was open into the 90s?
Awesome flashback footage! Glad you shared that with us! :) I was hoping for a shot of the wild mouse ride. If I'm correct that was the ride that was next to or actually ran into the pond. I still remember looking out over the edge of the coaster, cause I was prob. 7 years old , and being scared out of my wits cause the wild mouse would whip you and buck around and I could see huge goldfish in the water. Thanks again for the memories Darkinthepark!
+GTR owns The only ride I remember going out into the lake was the Swing Ride. Are you referring to the Jumper coaster as the Wild Mouse? If so, I don't remember that being particularly close to the water...but my memories of the park are a little cloudy...
+Dark in the Park I understand memory fogginess , especially after so many years! ;) Please google West point Pics. You'll see a Wild Mouse entrance clearly. Now it's possible that white roller coaster was the one I was on, but From what I remember it was a very fast moving crazy ride that scared me as a kid. Must've been so awesome for older kids in the area to walk to this park throughout the 70's and 80's! Not to mention the previous years.
+Gtr Owns The wild mouse was up from the lake. I recalling it being between the bandstand and the Whip. I think I only rode it once as a kid. was off it from then on. to scary for me at the time.
Would you happen to have any other videos of WPP? I think my mother is pictured towards the end of this video, but it's hard to tell and I'd love to view some more videos of WPP to see if I can see her. After being a stay-at-home mom and raising 6 children, the job at the ticket window at WPP made her very happy.
My dad passed away two years ago. He is the gentleman working the swings. Was awesome to hear his voice again. Thanks for this. 🖤

Thank you for this video. We used to go on our school trips here in the 1970s. Such wonderful, nostalgic memories. They had a lovely place to picnic
Those were the ol' days of Lansdale. I'm trying to look for my 5-year-old self anywhere in this video!

We Used To Go To ‘West Point Park’ Every Summer.❤️
Gosh! I miss this place so much!!! Thank you so much for the wonderful memories brought back to life from 30+ years ago!!! ❤

What a walk down memory lane!

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
is that a fire at 5:24?
Nah....that is just smoke from the hamburger grills.
I went with my aunt in the 80's and rode the big white roller coaster. . Had so much fun that day

My dad's company picnic was there in the mid-late 1960s. Always had a blast! I loved the Jumper Roller Coaster!
I was there in 1981. Rode a lot of rides. Only had one wooden roller coaster.
Yep...I only remember the one coaster there...and it always seemed like it was going to fall apart while you were on it.
@@DarkinthePark It did come off the track one year and they closed it for a period of time...
It was nicknamed "the jumper"! I remember dollar nights. That's when my parents dropped all four of us and got away for a few hours.
Wow so many great memories! My sisters & I spent every weekend there, thank you for bringing the memories that were forgotten over time back! The salt & pepper ride and the whip were favorites !

Great park with great food
The only thing missing is the smell of the railroad ties. I used to walk there every Friday & Saturday
My cousin's first husband used to work at West Point Park sometime in the mid-1950s. I have some vague memories of the place from back then.
The good ole days! I miss the park so much 😢
This is pure gold! Only (minor) complaint is that you didn't go on the roller coaster, I wanted to hear those chains clinking again. Loved that Space Spin ride. Wish there were more of these vids around.
mike76geo Yeah...I don't know why I didn't get more footage of the coaster. That rickety thing is one of the things I remember most about the park.
I was there in 1981. My cousins were about less than 1/2 mile away from the park.
It's strange that out of all of the years this place was around their is only like 2 films on west point park and this is the best longer version ❤
Yeah...that's my thought too. The problem is we take things for granted and think they'll always be around.

I went there a few times in boy scouts in the early 1980s. I was probably 11 or 12. I barely remember it, lol. thanks for posting, this is cool stuff.
Thanks for posting. Great memories.

We were pretty poor growing up but went almost every week for $1 Friday nights!
😊 that was awesome for us as well. Good times and the fear of the rides was real!

Thanks Bill! Yeah it was a scary ride! Ah the memories!
Was there a baseball field nearby? I recall playing ball there on a school trip early-mid 80s.
We never played any baseball by the park...so I don't remember if there was a field nearby.
we went every year in school, great times.
It was owned by members of my family.
Neat. Does your family have any pictures or video of the park?
Went there in the 70s....simpler times.
Just to think that the baby in that carriage is 30 years old in 2018.
I was 8 when this was filmed. I loved this place.
31 😂

Carol Strouse Sorry, but this is the only video we ever took at West Point Park. Maybe someone else will post their footage.
almost twice a month if not at the park it was the Route 309 drive in movie theatermlm
Where is the pond today?
The pond is on the property of one of the houses that was built at the location of the park.
Bill Cherkasky Thank you!
Iron Maiden. Nice!
Ha, thanks. That was my brother wearing the Iron Maiden shirt. I was wearing the Hawaiian shirt.
Dark in the Park Great video. We went every year. Great park.
And all that remains is the pond.
Yes...the pond and our memories. But at least something remains.
Dark in the Park I looked at the pond on google maps and there is something on top of it. I wonder what it is.
*****
There's a little island and bridge in the pond.
Dark in the Park Ok. Maybe thats the bridge that you can see.
