That is a fact. I worked until I hurt badly enough to get Edema in my legs and I was wage slaved on 3 dollars an hour because of my Disability. Prejudice is an evil unlike any other.
Every state gets bashed, rashed, and sashed... Except Wyoming, Alaska, Hawaii, Vermont, and Montana. Because there's barely anything about them (except the gay stuff about Vermont).
Pennsylvania? I’ve heard people bash New Jersey, Texas, New York, Florida, West Virginia (which I’m from), Kentucky, Oklahoma, Alabama, but never Pennsylvania.
Texas doesn’t even have bad accents unless you’re in East and West TX. I live in Dallas, and I ask everyone from out of state and most of them say they don’t really notice an accent here.
Malcolm Battle I don’t think you’ve ever talked to someone from Dallas then. The only people that I’ve heard say “hur” are ghetto people from anywhere in Texas.
Pennsylvania pride runs deep. I tried moving south to SC from my hometown of Bethlehem / Allentown & that was pretty much the most depressed I've ever been. Lasted about 6 months, before I broke my lease & came back up north here, to the 610. Now I'm in West Chester. Close to Philly & loving life again. It's not for everybody, I suppose but most people I know take pride in PA & their specific locations.
I'm from North Jersey moved to Williamsport it's definitely a big difference than other states I've lived I'm not really happy here like I was in NJ but absolutely nothing will make me as uncomfortable and unsafe as I felt in big cities in Indiana and Florida
Go up there and see how they treat you Lived up there a year and was insulted every day for having a Tennessee accent. Idiots who say they are Irish when they have never been to Ireland using it as an excuse to get drunk.
Philadelphia is the birthplace of our country!! Look it up. Go Birds!! First of all, every one of us has an accent. That's what keeps our neighborhoods strong. A sense of pride, togetherness is important to us. Be proud from where your from, but at the end of the day we are all Americans!!!! I rep Philly but I don't give a fuck where u from. When I'm in Thailand on vacation and shit goes down I would love to hear any of youes!
as a pennsylvanian, born and raised, i honestly could never imagine leaving this state. its so beautiful and whether youre east or west, we all love our state a lot. it honestly is surprising to me that people hate the pittsburgh accent so much. im from way closer to philly, but hearing folks from around there talk is almost comforting. their accent is more welcoming than southern ones.
Im from Northwestern PA and I feel the same way about the eastern and western accents. I’ve had teachers growing up from those areas and they always gave off welcoming, down to earth vibes
aw thank you from pgh! i gotta say i do get excited when i meet people from eastern pa and they SOUND like it lol. the mountains really do still be keepin us apart 😂
Pittsburgh is a wannabe Southern accent. When it comes to the other ones, they sound so screwed up. Philly (historically) is a wannabe NYC, especially among Jews. Combine some German with some NYC and some hillbilly, and you have PA in a nutshell. This is what I also call the "YT Hobbyist accent," since most collectors of ____ are from PA (or NJ, outside Philly). There's an angry teacher that I made comments about, that hails from your state (compilation somewhere). Record collectors and antique items, mostly for hobbyists. I am sure there are hobbyists in other states (like mine...IL).
Awh so much thanks! 😊 I believe Pittsburgh was also voted one of the best cities to live in, AND possibly the friendliest city. I could be wrong..lol. But if you ever come this way, we'll be more than happy to have ya!
It came up a few times in the past 5 years by half ass journalists. Nobody thinks everybody's talking about us but these slander articles are stupid. Pittsburgh is evolving exponentially and these types of articles that slander could be frowned upon by potential investors..it doesn't really matter though Pittsburgh is doing great things in upcoming years
Huh, I usually hear West Virginia getting slammed, not PA. The only thing I hear people say bad about Pennsylvania is their bad roads, which to be fair, state natives generally agree with.
Isaiah Stoy as a Berks native... I agree. The roads suck so bad I call it pothole swerving ....however you constantly look like a drunk person behind the wheel lol .... Also the reason I retired my rims... :(
I'm glad they (briefly) brought up the classist element of declaring the Pittsburgh accent ugly. My parents worked very hard to make sure my siblings and I had almost no discernable Western PA accent. When I asked why they were constantly correcting me on my pronunciation of certain words, they said it was because people would think I was "stupid" if I had that accent. Though I've never asked, I can't help but think they learned that exact lesson the hard way when they tried to build their careers outside of the Pittsburgh area. Much love to all my yinzers! ❤
Pennsylvania just doesn't like neighboring states. I'm pretty sure when you leave Pennsylvania you the sign "You're leaving Pa" and there's about a mile or more before you see "Welcome to Ohio"
Supposedly they speak English but I can't understand them half the time so they have no room to talk. I hear the British accent i think a bunch of snobs that drink tea and we kicked from our country twice and should be nicer to America in general since they would all be speaking German if not for us.
Christina Burke, wow that is wrong on so many levels, let's not forget that the USA declared war in 1812, not Britain and then they kicked your ass and burned down the White House and then they were nice. Also the U.K. And the Soviets did a lot of the heavy lifting in WW2 so I don't see England speaking German
@Douglas Faria Not clear who "we" is. A British "we" might make the case that Britain didn't lose the war of 1812, but it certainly didn't win. Britain had been attempting to retake the United States, and it failed at this. Its invading force was repelled by the US, which seems more like win. The war was also a blow to the belief that the only "real" country is a country led by a monarch dropped from the sky by God .
@@christinaburke2461 Tommy Robinson broke the law, he released "reports" on an on-going case with a jury. That is jury tampering in the U.K. All the media were banned on reporting it (TV, newspapers) and some RUclipsr shouldn't be any different. The criminal justice system even let him off with a warning the first time he did it (generous tbh), then he did it again and went to prison.
These aren't buzzfeed clickbait articles. Three of the six examples they used were a Harvard Study of happiness levels, an Asthma Foundation study of Air Quality, and a Brookings Foundation study of Economic Progress.
DankGrandpa as a PA native, I appreciate that and agree with the Jersey thing wholeheartedly. They’ve induced some of the worst road rage I’ve seen with their driving. They’ve got ok beaches though
Yep. My town (Towanda) was surround by woods and mountains so we kind of lived like cowboys. And then we could drive 20 mins to a super walmart like true Americans 🇺🇸
I live in Pittsburgh. Until you live there and talk to people in other states you don’t know how much people hate western Pennsylvania. Is it because we are the city of champions?🏆🏆
Darren McDade im from nyc, and I’ve been here my whole life. A disadvantage to that is we really only pay attention to us, cause the world feels like it’s here. But even so, since there’s so many cultures and ppl from everywhere we’re not sheltered at all-and I just haven’t heard about the hate
I never thought that we had the “ugliest accent” honestly half the time I don’t even hear people using that accent, then at the same time I’m outside the city, but very close to the outer parts of the city
Definitely agree that it's being taken too far, I think the issue is more with people not appreciating the grouping of one particular behavior/accent in this case with a social or economic class. So it's not crazy to hear the word classist here, but I don't think it necessarily applies haha
I can't speak for the other terms, but in most cities (especially on the East Coast & Midwest) working class people tend to have stronger local accents that middle/upper class people. Typically if people go away for college, they're exposed to people from all over, and many people's accents either get less pronounced or disappear altogether because they're not surrounded by people talking the same way as them everyday. As a result, (generally speaking) people with college degrees are less likely to have a super strong regional accent, but someone who has lived and worked in the same place their entire life and not been exposed to many people outside of that area (generally more working class/blue collar people) are more likely to have a strong accent. In a lot of cities, people with thick local accents are assumed to be working class, so dissing regional accents can also be seen as a dig towards that area's working class.
Language has been used as a class divider for centuries. For example “y’all” was a proper contraction until the poor white farmers and slaves started using it, then it was considered “improper.” Pittsburgh is a traditionally middle class city with little to no upper class men. That’s why their accent is “the ugliest.” What about white southerners and the “black accent”? People almost always view these two accents and dialects as “uneducated,” no matter how educated the speaker is. It’s almost always because those two accents are associated with working class people and poor people.
simon wang “He who learns nothing from history is doomed to repeat it.” History has always favored the upper class socially, whether it be their dialect, accent, skin color, or opinions, and disregarded the middle class. It’s just an example of classism.
"Can you see why some people feel that this poll was classist?" Can you see that no one in Pittsburgh actually gives a shit if you don't like our accent? Please take your pity somewhere else.
Living in Lancaster is literally like living anywhere else in the country there are really no accents at all. The only shitty thing about it are all the horse and buggies that hold up traffic
As some one from Pennsylvania, specifically Pittsburgh area, and as someone who has gone out of state for 4 years now for school, I have never heard anyone speak bad about Pennsylvania at all (unless you count hating our football or hockey teams). To be honest I have had people say they really like Pennsylvania cause of the beautiful forests in fall, the great haunted places (both ghost stuff and paid attractions), and nice camping places. I feel like these companies are just polling like 5 coworkers and posting that as fact.
I remember when I lived in Pennsylvania, went to school there, before I went to New York, they always taught us that the tri-state area was Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. When I move to New York City and I would mention the tri-state area or hear it mentioned the New Yorkers involved were always referring to New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut as the tri-state area. I would point out how little sense that made but they're always very adamant "no no no this is the actual tri-state area and they told you wrong!" By the way the ugliest accent is actually New Jersey--we all know that there's no two ways about that!
I live in Lycoming County Pennsylvania and I never have any problem understanding someone from other areas of PA--anymore than I have problems understanding ppl who live in the Southern Appalachian states. We all make a contribution to the language & culture of our area. Be yourself. Be proud. We're ALL unique. Sending HUGS out to all my fellow Pennsylvanians. I love all of youse.
I've lived in SF, NYC, Asheville NC, Boone NC, Seattle and Phoenix. The people in Pittsburgh are, by far, the friendliest people I've ever encountered. Not to mention a killer restaurant scene. We liked it so much, we're moving there next week!
And the only thing cool about the trailer parks that Sunnyvale was filmed in for the first 4 seasons was the show being there so shut the frig up Lahey
I live in Pittsburgh and can recognize that it's a horribly ugly accent. I also recognize that we like it that way and people in Pittsburgh could give a shit about what some dumb website has to say about it.
Ross Kennedy I completely agreed grew up just and hour away from Pittsburgh and I'll tell it like it is our city and its surrounding towns have the same attitude WE DONT GIVE A FUCK WE WILL DO WHAT WE WANT!
I dont think my Pittsburgh slang is ugly. I grew up in south end of the city and its just normal to me. I definitely notice it more since i have been living in ohio.
I grew up in North East Pennsylvania and I ended up living in Scranton for the better part of a decade. I visited Philly and spent several weeks in Pittsburgh. There definitely is a Scranton and Pittsburgh accent but I found that 80% of Scranton doesnt have a heavy accent and a good portion of Pittsburg residents dont have a thick accent. They use some interesting colloquial expressions that threw me at times, but it's not ubiquitous. Honestly I think Northeastern Pennsylvanians in general have a fairly non regional diction and speak a fairly clean "American English." Maybe that's just bias though, although I have heard that said by people outside of the region.
travis chamberlin we use ‘tray of pizza’ instead of pie of pizza. Fuck that pie shit. Also we don’t heavily use our T’s. So when we say the word Scranton it’s not really pronounced.
We don't FRICKEN care what other people think, we just do our thing and live our lives. To me that is the Pennsylvainian way, to not shove noses down other people's business.
@@davidfreeman3083 last I checked being disliked for being from PA, especially being a Philly sports fan, being disliked is a badge of honor. And a lovely reason to start shit.

Pennsylvania has some of the best universities in the nation, huge agricultural output, especially in dairy and orchard sectors. It has terrific symphony orchestras and superb architecture. It also has estimated remaining reserves of seven billion short tons of anthracite, which is a fantastic energy and chemical resource. After Obama finishes his term, we may see a lot more utilization of this super fuel. Note: I will not respond to any comments from Green Freaks & Climate Change OCD fanatics. Bottom line: Pennsylvania is heartland America, one of the reasons why the US is a superpower. When the US has to throw a punch, PA is in the muscle! Here is a salute to PA from the Cornbelt!

You are living in a fantasy world. Pennsylvania is in the top 10 list of state political corruption, check your facts. And that was before the "kids for cash" scandal in Lackawanna and luzerne county . I have 4 more years to retire, and I am sad to say, I am not spending my retirement here. It deeply saddens me, I made my life here, my living here, my family here. But I can no longer live here, I am totally disgusted by the BACKROOM political deals that went on, and still go on today. They have stripped all the meat, and we are down to bare bones, the economy is dead here. Thank the politicians that took with both hands from northeast Pa. For over 100 years. IT IS VERY SAD.
So tell me, while you were living in Alabama were you able to go into a WalMart or a gas station and purchase a case of beer if you so chose? We can't do that in Pennsylvania because of the bullshit liquor laws, and they won't change in my lifetime or for another 100 years.
+1979WSchamps yeah you can, but considering how much beer I age in the cellar. I only purchase once a week.. so no biggie to me. it is a dumb law.. oh well thou. ATB -Nate
Tea In The Trees I just think it's stupid that Pennsylvania has to be the one state out of all the others that has to be that way. I'm not an alcoholic, I just drink a few in the early mornings because I happen to work night shift at WalMart. It would be so much more convenient for me if I could pick up a case of Rolling Rock or Twisted Tea before I go home each payday.
I never realized how different I talk until i moved to another state, I was always asked where are you from, or some people just straight up said "you are from Pittsburgh right?" Lol
I love the RP English dialect and most Scottish dialects, but yea... Shetland Scottish? Really, no /h/s?! /at/ "aht" is how they say in Shetland. And then in England a lot of people say /w/ for the R sounds, even turning them into /v/s. I find those pretty strange.
heskeyboy We can all hear our accent differences more easily in our homelands. I have difficulty picking out more than 3-4 UK accents. Sometimes I pick up on words that are said in my city that the rest of the country finds weird being said by RUclipsrs from certain parts of England.

Hypernova Sims when I was in second grade my dad had to go to Pennsylvania for a work trip, so I told all my friends at school. They told me that and I went home crying and told my dad to cancel the flight to Pennsylvania.
I’m 85yrs old, originally from Scranton, been away for 55 years, and I still love the city where I grew up on the West Side. Lots of wonderful memories...the people, the different neighborhoods, and the Central City.
Pierre x Yeah, I live in Florida and I wondered what these guys were whining about. How often does anyone even talk about their state? As soon as something weird happens, people jump to guessing it was Florida. Ok, there was that guy that got leprosy from having sex with is pet armadillo, and maybe a few other things... but we're normal, we're ok, really, really we are, you believe us don't you, don't you? Totally normal, everything is fine here, nothing to see. Quick eveybody, try to act normal, they're watching us, I can feel them watching us again. Why won't they go away and just leave us be? Are you still there? LEAVE US ALONE! But anywho, Florida has a large population and a freedom of information act that allows reporters easy access to crazy stories which results in more people finding out about anything odd that does happen here.
I don't know if it's just me but for some reason I always think PA (my state) is as thought of as New Hampshire no one cares about it and it's boring and plain to outsiders (I mean it is but still)
Infamous BC yeah I'm from the western reading area and the accent is kind of like hood/ Spanish. even white boys like me have that "hood" accent and I've never seen anything wrong with it or different
I live west of Pittsburgh and a native from here. Most people I know (friends and family) love this place as do I. The state of Pennsylvania is geographically beautiful. If you want to do more than just laying on a beach frying your skin you may enjoy a visit here.
I feel for you, Scranton and Pittsburgh. I am from Springfield, MO, and no nationwide study or article that has come out about Springfield has ever been positive. The two things that get brought up the most are the extremely high number of meth labs per capita (one of the drug’s street names, 417, actually comes from the area code on our phone numbers) and the high rate of cigarette smoking.
It just kinda depends on who you're talking to. Some people just don't have the accent. Majority where i live have that god awful hillbilly accent but then some people just.... Dont.
I grew up just outside of Pittsburgh across the river from Edgar Thompson (if you aren’t from Pittsburgh, you won’t know what I’m talking about) and I have heard many people using that accent
My girlfriend is from PA.I'm from Australia.I think her accent is beautiful honestly...One of the things I absolutely adore about her.We don't finish our words and smoosh things together too here in Queensland Australia.lol
I'm a born and raised Chicagoan, I've visited many cities/states and many people have told me I have an "accent". My brother is a huge fan of Mr. Roger's neighborhood, so for his birthday (this October) we'll be traveling over to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania! So I can't wait to hear this so called "yinzer" accent. Certainly will be asking the locals if my Chicago "accent" sounds strange to them. Down in the south, for example some Floridians thought my accent is humorous because how I say/call things!
I spent a few years in Ohio (Toledo area). I temporarily took a job at fast food joint. I was asked multiple times, "where are you from," and "are you from NJ or the South Bronx?" It was hard to convince them that I was from Chicago. From my observation, the accents vary, if you pay attention. I am still asked that (since I live in an area with a lot of out of state transplants). I talk really fast. I'm still asked to "slow down and repeat myself."
If you ever get the opportunity to go to Pittsburgh, take that opportunity. It may not be NYC or Orlando, but it's an aesthetically beautiful city full of friendly people and lots of fun and unique events year round.
I was born and raised near Scranton. I moved out of NEPA because I found it economically depressing. Having a college degree doesn't guarantee a decent income there. However, my neighbors were some of the most friendly people you will ever meet. Most of us are second and third generations of European immigrants and there is a sense of camaraderie.
And you're right about the college education meaning nothing. I have one and it was useless...the ONE time I got called for an interview for a job that had to do with my degree, but I made more working as a manager of a convenience store! No joke! They wanted all this education and experience, yet only paid $8 an hour. Ridiculous. Needless to say, I stayed at the store!
Economically, Scranton is the worst place to live. Extremely corrupt here. Can't wait to leave. What they said about everyone being happy is completely untrue. It deserves the least happy place title, through and through.
As a Philadelphian I'm going to stand up for Pittsburghians and Scrantoners (?) and tell Gawker to F-off. I agree that it is very classist and honestly stop hating people for their culture (which accents are a part of).
+Abigail Holbrook Haha! Unfortunately, I've had people here in the Midwest ask me if I were, too… As I hold my phone in my hand and do homework on my laptop. Words like "horrible," "orange," and "water" always make people ask where I'm from.
@Katy Doench true there is a difference but generally speaking there is a standard way of speaking in the US & outlets such as the the media obviously reflects this.
Gʟᴏʙᴇ Oɪʟ 万 / 0030 I think the word you're looking for is stereotypical, and the Pittsburgh accent is very distinct. The Scranton bit was about the city itself, not necessarily the accent.
It says a lot that you hardly show anyone speaking in a PA accent... it’s disappearing. The people in your video are speaking with a homogenized US English accent - some with a very slight Mid Atlantic accent
VL123 what is wrong with Philly? Philly is the best place because of our food, history, art, museums, and television/movie presence. Gotta watch out for them fast trucks lol, had me surprised but us Pennsylvanians sure like our diesel trucks.
Pennsylvania is awesome, i have been living here for about 11 years. I love living here, and it helps me with colleges because it has some of the best colleges in the nation. It even has an ivy-league college. It also is the midpoint for lots of famous cities and Industrialization. Without Pennsylvania, you wouldn’t have any chocolates.
SaiTUP... I live in Lancaster. It's a beautiful, rural, agricultural county (people literally ride horses here for transportation and there are horse/buggy hitches at most stores), but we are an hour from Philly and Harrisburg (state capital) and about two hours from New York City, Washington, DC and the Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland beaches. We're about an hour from portions of the Appalachian Trail (mountains & deep forest hiking). I honestly can't think of a more beautiful, accessible area to live in. We live with a small-town feel and have big-city access. It's the best of all worlds here. :)

Im from Northwestern PA and I feel the same way about the eastern and western accents. I’ve had teachers growing up from those areas and they always gave off welcoming, down to earth vibes

Wait a minute. This program came from the BBC in England, a country of multiple accents?

Why are terms like "offensive", "classist" and "racist" being thrown around in this documentary? Are people really that easily offended?
James Keefer Welcome to the 21st century.
For example “y’all” was a proper contraction until the poor white farmers and slaves started using it, then it was considered “improper.”
Pittsburgh is a traditionally middle class city with little to no upper class men. That’s why their accent is “the ugliest.”
What about white southerners and the “black accent”? People almost always view these two accents and dialects as “uneducated,” no matter how educated the speaker is. It’s almost always because those two accents are associated with working class people and poor people.
simon wang “He who learns nothing from history is doomed to repeat it.” History has always favored the upper class socially, whether it be their dialect, accent, skin color, or opinions, and disregarded the middle class. It’s just an example of classism.
"Can you see why some people feel that this poll was classist?" Can you see that no one in Pittsburgh actually gives a shit if you don't like our accent? Please take your pity somewhere else.
Hahaha east and west PA are literally different states. Eastern PA barely has an accent

KatKartoons untrue. One word. Cheesesteaks
real isopod feeding hours yesssss
KatKartoons my dad is from new hampshire & i’ve been there once. i actually kinda like it (i’m from maryland)
You broke my heart, I love Pennsylvania from wildwood nj
Edit: OMG 165 LIKES I CANT PUT THIS IN WORDS
Im from Reading and our accent is more of people speaking Spanish.
Infamous BC yeah I'm from the western reading area and the accent is kind of like hood/ Spanish. even white boys like me have that "hood" accent and I've never seen anything wrong with it or different
I’m near Duequense and near Homestead and go to school at West Mifflin, you know I hear a lot of white people and black people using hood accents
Patriotic Firefighter204 yeah my friend tommy used to go to mifflin and the accent fits with the conditions reading is tough asf
Mifflin school in Lincoln Place or West Mifflin
Patriotic Firefighter204 west mifflin I think
Pittsburgh, Scranton, Allentown and Philadelphia all have different accents.
I live west of Pittsburgh and a native from here. Most people I know (friends and family) love this place as do I. The state of Pennsylvania is geographically beautiful. If you want to do more than just laying on a beach frying your skin you may enjoy a visit here.
Stephanie Persin, Ya the entire state is so diverse.
I'm planning a Route 6 trip this Spring or Summer.
👏
Love my city of Pittsburgh. Screw the haters Don't give a shit if people don't like my accent n'at.
Go flyers!
I love Pitt, & I'm from the other side of the state. Wish we could give Philly to Jersey, where it belongs.
+chizelhead71 you're my spirit animal I swear. I have said the exact same thing myself
Agreed, I love Pittsburgh. Proud to be from PA.
beanfrompa Love the Pittsburgh rock scene when I was there.
#respectfromtexas
cool city!...phili however....
Few people in Pittsburgh speak like that. 🙄
I grew up in the city and never spoke like that.
Me either.
It just kinda depends on who you're talking to. Some people just don't have the accent. Majority where i live have that god awful hillbilly accent but then some people just.... Dont.
Sadly 😪
I grew up just outside of Pittsburgh across the river from Edgar Thompson (if you aren’t from Pittsburgh, you won’t know what I’m talking about) and I have heard many people using that accent
I lived in Pittsburgh my whole life, they definitely do speak that way, especially the old folk.
My girlfriend is from PA.I'm from Australia.I think her accent is beautiful honestly...One of the things I absolutely adore about her.We don't finish our words and smoosh things together too here in Queensland Australia.lol
It's because we threw snow balls at santa.
Orangebike666
Lmao goons!
Orangebike666 that’s Philly
Neel eel philly is in Pennsylvania!!!
Jeffrey Warren heeeeelllllllll yeeeeeaaahhhhhhh !!!!!!!
Orangebike666
Yeah Gawker needs to go down to an Eagles tailgate and say this
I'm a born and raised Chicagoan, I've visited many cities/states and many people have told me I have an "accent".
Amy Beth, Dalton area, Tunkhannock, or around elk lake
Economically, Scranton is the worst place to live. Extremely corrupt here. Can't wait to leave. What they said about everyone being happy is completely untrue. It deserves the least happy place title, through and through.
Stella Luna I agree I'm from Moscow pa right outside of Scranton the people there are wonderful but the economy could be better
PA is like the Manchester of the US. Everyone bashes it. Some of the greatest people have been from PA. Same with Manchester, UK.
Taylor TM, Pa is the keystone state. It's the key to the US, take it out say bye to your natural gas, and future oil
Nobody bashes, PA, this is dumb news. People bash New Jersey.
As a Philadelphian I'm going to stand up for Pittsburghians and Scrantoners (?) and tell Gawker to F-off. I agree that it is very classist and honestly stop hating people for their culture (which accents are a part of).
I was born and raised in Lancaster, PA. Though I no longer live there, I would take a PA accent over a Midwestern (MN, WI, or Chicagoland) ANY day.
+Todd Becker down here in philly, whenever we here lancaster, we think that you all are amish
+Abigail Holbrook Haha! Unfortunately, I've had people here in the Midwest ask me if I were, too… As I hold my phone in my hand and do homework on my laptop.
Words like "horrible," "orange," and "water" always make people ask where I'm from.
+Todd Becker same haha
+Todd Becker
uffda!!! youbetcha!!
I agree. The accent around the Great Lakes is horrid. It is worst around Buffalo. Nasal with no enunciation, way too fast.
I don't know.
I honestly don't hear any "strange" accent apart from the classic American.
Gʟᴏʙᴇ Oɪʟ 万 / 0030 there's no such thing as a classic American accent.
@Katy Doench what I mean by "classic American" is the standard American English dialect.
Gʟᴏʙᴇ Oɪʟ 万 / 0030 dialect and accent are two different things and there is no standard American dialect.
America looks like a beautiful country Id love to visit one day
Where do you live?
England
The National Parks are great destination to consider and as well the historical monuments (especially Pennsylvania )
You should! Come to PA! We have Cheesesteak! Hoagies! Lebanon Bologna! Hershey's Chocolate!
Well if you ever come to Pennsylvania, stick to Pittsburgh or Philly. Nothing much to see in Pennsyltucky.
It says a lot that you hardly show anyone speaking in a PA accent... it’s disappearing. The people in your video are speaking with a homogenized US English accent - some with a very slight Mid Atlantic accent
I moved away years ago but I still have my heavy PA accent (I'm from near Woolrich, Farrensburg and Jersey Shore.)
I have lived in Pittsburgh, Philly, Columbia (SC), San Antonio, and Seattle. Pittsburgh was, by far, my favorite place to live; why the hate?
Steelers
+1979WSchamps *Stillers
Columbia is a shithole...I'd rather go live in Philly again...lol
...because Pittsburgh is unabashedly working-class in our speech and mannerisms, and most "progressives" are (not-so) secretly elitist.
VL123 what is wrong with Philly? Philly is the best place because of our food, history, art, museums, and television/movie presence. I love Philly, I live in Philly, I've traveled to many places but I will always come back to Philly.
Also we have the Philly Phanatic so any argument against that is just null and void
Pennsylvanians are among the best people I've met in the country - grounded, friendly, courteous, trustworthy, and all-around normal.
I live in Los Angeles and I always enjoy meeting Pennsylvanian expats and visitors...friendly, funny...and many even have awesome accents!
I believe expat only refers to expatriated individuals that have left their home/native country - but not sure if you were joking or something else :D
I agree with that, except for in the Philadelphia area it's the exact opposite.
Yeah, Philly's a shitshow.
Most of us are pretty nice and kind. Pulled over to help a guy in a duramax and then raced him lol, hate to admit it but he had me beat up until about 90 I caught up but we stopped before hitting 100.
SaiTUP why are u a Celtics fan then? Do u not trust the process? 😂
the op kingdom hey! I also live in Lancaster 👋👋
PA also had oil, steel, and computers.
I would like to point out that *I AM A PENNSYLVANIAN* AND ITS ABUSIVE TO CALL OUR ACCENT UGLY
Meanwhile people drive over the Golden Gate never realizing Ambridge steel built it.
The steel cables that hold up all bridges in the world were invented in a small town called Saxonburg just north of Pittsburgh
We have an accent? 🤔 I never noticed.
You can't be serious.
Well, we wouldn't because we're used to it.
Which accent? PA has many accents. Edwardsville even has a different accent than Scranton.
Honestly I can’t even hear an accent in this video, and I’m from California
These comments are giving me aids, everybody has a goddamned accent
Glad Gawker doesn't exist anymore!
Pennsylvania isn't bad. Actually very beautiful state. Only bad things in PA are the roads and the taxes
